Make large batches of food when you are home and freeze it for the week. The 14 year old or grandmom ought to be able to reheat it. Use a slow cooker; throw food in it in the morning, have dinner ready. Buy bulk. Shop sales; buy whatever meat and veg are cheapest this week. Shop at Goodwill. Do the things poor people have done for generations. People seem to have forgotten these things.

Full head of hair in a pink that vibrant with no roots showing (meaning that she keeps up with the roots) and with brows that dark…easily at LEAST $250, but probably closer to $500.

It depends. Maybe she does it herself. Then it’s not that expensive: 50$ for bleach and developer every couple of months and probably 30$ for a hair mask with pigments maybe every one to two month. I suspect she has resistance to number one and two on your list, because she doesn’t see herself as lower class. But yeah, until she’s doing better with child support, she needs the money. She’s spending $50 plus for fast food which is probably pretty good for all, still hamburger helper and other budget meals at home would be a better idea. Also, she could qualify as her mom's caregiver. Her mom sounds like she needs care too. . Or she herself can file for sec 8. She's way below the poverty line and they have units with 4 bedrooms. My wife does hair, I know that pink hair is a multi process. First Bleach since she is not a natural blond, then the "fashion" Colors. Clients pay $300+ to have this done. Her color is not a cheaper one and either she just did it or really spent money. Most of these colors wash out within 2 weeks. Even something like artic fox would not take hold without certain chemicals that you need a license to buy.
Point is she is wasting money on pink hair, which I personally feel if you can't keep it from staying vivid becomes a trashy look, which attracts trashy men. Or you spend lots of money to keep it fashionable. Oh ya probably $60 for the shampoo and conditioner for Fashion colors. Fact is I know people pay my wife $250+ for this hair and it really fades after a week or 2.

That alone would cover like 800$ in food alone. She could even buy grounded up coffee beans with it, all she would need is a coffee filter and boiled water that’s 15$ give or take. She needs to use these resources if she hasn’t already! She could also apply for TANF which gives you money for rent and bills which with 5 kids and someone on disability she would 100% qualify for!! This would cover so many expenses so she can focus on her bills and loan payments.

    • @Outworlder

One pet is generally not a big expense... initially. One does have to budget periodic vet visits to assess their overall health and prevent big issues. They do get old though.
Here, the problem is not just a pet. It's 6 pets since they didn't get it spayed! (And how did it reproduce? Probably outdoor cat, which is not only a bad thing for the environment, but also increases the chance of diseases or accidents that are costly)
Plus five kids. Just my bonus is way more than most guests yearly salary, and I couldn't afford five kids - not enough money and (even more importantly) time.

Besides, her whole story of him not allowing her to work reeks of manipulation. If he was taking on the responsibilities of earning for the household and let her take care of the kids he was only helping her - that is a privilege. But she spins it as if he held a gun to her head and didnt let her work, yeah right.
And, considering how open she seems to be to having babies with deadbeats, who knows why that marriage ended. Was she faithful.
