  • Skin signs of insulin resistance? Many skin conditions we chalk up to bad genetics and/or bad luck actually have a hidden root cause that can be discovered and corrected. Only by understanding the connection between your skin condition and your metabolic health can you begin to take corrective steps.
    Use this video about skin signs of insulin resistance as a guide for yourself and your family; the skin conditions you were told were genetic and chronic/progressive can actually be improved or reversed with a proper human diet.

    I was 325lbs, had rosacea, and always had “sores” that never seemed to heal. I lost 100lbs doing low carb (keto) and both skin conditions cleared up in a matter of weeks of starting the diet. Not to mention, all my carpal tunnel pain, and all my other joint pains went away. Definitely felt awesome, and knew exactly what “cured” me. Well worth the attempt if anyone is considering it.

      @@herbladyHCG Thank you 😊 I actually fell off the wagon over the last year or so, but never went crazy on carbs and was able to maintain pretty well. Gained about 20lbs over a year. BUT, during the holidays this year, I went up another 15lbs! So I’ve started keto again, been 4 days, and feeling better already. I love my sugars and sweets, but after a week or 2, I don’t miss it. 😁

But I was at the point where I couldn’t climb stairs without being winded, and was wearing braces on my elbows & wrists… sometimes all at the same time. Really, everything got better. I’ve had one Carpal tunnel pain “flare up” in 3 years, & it wasn’t even bad. Wish you luck! Don’t hesitate to reach out to me (or anyone) if you have questions!

    I whipped out papers before on my doctor, of research I did online, and she just about lost it. She asked me if I thought I was smarter than her, and I asked her what was wrong with doing reaearch? And she said there was so much misinformation online, and SHE went to medical school, not me. So I quit going to her. But there are a lot of doctors who don't like for their patients to do reaearch... Sad.

      Very smart thing to do…
      You are in charge of your healthcare team, and any doctor who thinks they are smarter than you, because of four years of medical training (training, not education) needs to be reeducated…

      It's time we took CONTROL of our own lives. Doctors don't know everything. Training? Not really that much. It's a lot of memorization and 'following the group'. Any thinking patient wants that doctor who will be humble enough to LOOK for the cause and try to heal the patient. What we have now is 'sickcare' not 'healthcare'. Doctors don't want to have to explain themselves, and it's OUR bodies!

    I was 240lbs. I stopped eating and drinking processed sugar completely and cut my carbs in half. My skin rashes, hives, acne, joint pain and gi bloating and pain, hard heartbeat and diarrhea just improved largely within a week of changing my diet. It's been over a year and I've lost 93lbs and all of my ailments have healed. My body just generally feels great and my bmi is within normal range now. My quality of life is just so much better than I could've imagined.

      Bmi is such a deceiving figure. It only considers height and weight. No body composition at all. There's literally no point in it. Secondly I would like to point out that HbA1c is also out dated. If you practice fasting for 24 hrs once a week it will affect this greatly

    One needs to consider chronic stress as well. Chronic stress is a well-proven, well-known contributing factor to hyperinsulinemia and metabolic syndrome. Chronic stress + poor diet + sedentary lifestyle is a sure way to end up with metabolic syndrome. Correcting the diet and adding activity will help, but might still not be enough if the chronic stress is not addressed too.

      I had really annoying adult acne (I never had acne when I was a teenager, but I also wasn't obese when I was a teenager). A dermatologist even put me on doxycycline for my acne (!) which decimated my gut microbiome and gave me diarrhea, and it only partially helped my acne.
      But on keto and intermittent fasting, I got to a healthy weight AND my skin cleared up! My skin looks healthier now than it's looked since I was a teen, it's pretty cool.
      (I just want to add -- for anyone who's vegan or vegetarian -- yes, keto can be vegan or vegetarian too. Carnivore is one way to be keto, but not the only way; so if you want to go keto and you don't want to eat meat, you can. For instance, I substitute cold-pressed coconut oil for butter. So please know, there are lots of ways to eat keto 🥰)

    I went to the doctors and found I had an A1C of 11.3. I had new skin tags browning of some skin and I thought it was a yeast infection in my groin that never went away. I started keto and made small steps in lowering my A1C but when I started lifting weights and intermittent fasting, I got below pre diabetes levels in less than a year. I also only dropped 50lbs. I should still lose another hundred pounds but my last test had me 5.3. The one before that was 5.5. One giant meal around 5 everyday. I ate what I could for an hour and then that was it for the next 24 hours. That is when I saw everything change. I have since done random long fasts. It gets easier to go 3 or 4 days without food after being on OMAD for a while. The longest I went without food was 11 days and i can't lie, you do not have a lot of energy during this time but you feel great once you slowly start to eat again. Not saying everybody has to do this, just sharing my experience.

    My mother has psoriasis, and when she started Keto, her psoriasis expanded further throughout her body. After a few months of investigation and watching Dr. Berry’s videos on the skin topics, plus my moms doctor’s advise (her doctor is great she believes in metabolic health). We started an elimination diet. That meant basically switching to a more carnivore version of the Keto diet. It looks like in my mother’s case she started consuming more of the night shades and spinach, and high oxalate and anti- nutrient foods when she started keto than before she did she started keto. So now that she’s eating mostly fatty meat, supplementing with vitamin D3 11.000 a day plus omega 3 rich diet and supplement. Bone broth and organ meat. He psoriasis is receding. The itching is going away in a matter of 2 weeks.. she’s 68 years old. Thank you for the advise Dr. Berry!

      Trouble with a carnivore diet is that it gives you extremely bad breath. I have a beauty salon and many of my clients are cutting out carbs and starch; they didn’t have bad breath before and now you can hardly stand over them due to their breath. It is hard to point it to them.

      @@waitwhat6882 Bad breath is not a noted symptom of a carnivore diet. Don't base any judgements on a single UA-cam comment. I've viewed thousands of videos in the last year and a half, during my study of nutrition, including almost always scanning the comments section (there IS often valuable insight and video critique there), and don't recall this (bad breath) being ever mentioned as a symptom. Most serious carnivore's report the best health result they've ever experienced.
      Given such results, it's unlikely they'll ever depart the general carnivore lifestyle. Remember, the supreme issue here, is that it's the extreme carbohydrate diet (SAD) Standard American Diet that is the BIG BIG problem, that must be avoided at all costs, as it ALWAYS directly causes (given a few decades of consumption/abuse) organ damage and failure. It's a difficult habit to kick, given that the high blood sugar volumes are extremely addictive, so it's very much a substance abuse issue.
      This video is discussing damage to just one of the body's organs - the skin. But note that similar damage in varying degrees, is simultaneously occurring to all organs throughout the body, all directly caused by the long term extreme blood sugar levels and insulin levels.
      The human body is a wondrously smart and complex design, and it works very very hard trying to keep us alive. It's still almost a miracle that most people last quite a few decades on such a damaging diet as the extreme carbohydrate one, that is heavily promoted and recommended to us by those people making money by selling it on a mass production scale, and by the people they also manage to buy or influence.
      Hope this helps.

      Absolutely! High stress causes high cortisol levels in your body, which, in turn, causes insulin levels to rise. A vicious cycle, but it can be broken. I’m doing EMDR therapy to release a lifetime of chronic stress. I’ve struggled with my weight most of my life, and sadly, came to realize the constant stress in my life caused by a mentally ill family member, sent my cortisols through the roof. With the EMDR therapy, I no longer self sooth with sweets and diet sodas. I’m now able to follow a low carbohydrate diet without the constant cravings for sweets and sodas.

      @@MayaMickaMicak Yes, keto isn’t healthy for everyone, but no diet is healthy for everyone, we're all different -- different genetics, different health history, different exercise abilities, different food preferences -- and what works for one person won't necessarily work for another person.
      For instance, I don't eat meat, but my diet is still keto, and it's helped me get to a healthy BMI, cleared up my acne, and given me more energy. We each need to be our own health advocate and research what works best for us. There's too much individual variation for any one, single dietary paradigm to work the same way for everyone who tries it.

    • @MayaMickaMicak

      @@zxyatiywariii8 I agree with you. I also think no diet is perfect for EVERYONE, there's 8 billion people in the world and it would be strange that all of them thrive on the same diet. I'm glad that it's helping you! I heard keto is healthy for children with epilepsy and sometimes for weight loss, but that it should only be practiced short term. The problem is that a lot of influencers and UA-cam doctors promote and idolise the keto diet, they say it's going to cure every disease imaginable (which is not possible for any diet or medicine) and when some people experience serious side effects or react poorly and get even worse, instead of recommending something else, they ignore them, they just push more supplements, cutting out more food, and blame the patient for their body's bad reaction and worsening health. They refuse to listen to them without ever thinking that maybe keto is not for them. Sometimes it honestly seems like a cult lol. That's my experience since my father has forced me to be on the diet for years and he wouldn't accept that because of keto I got many serious and even chronic diseases (they have all cleared out when I stopped the diet), and he still to this day has a fridge full of supplements, follows a strict keto diet and he's getting more and more sick because of it, but he refuses to see it because he's been sold this dream and cure to all things that is keto. I left my first comment and this one because I never see any even slightly negative comments on these videos, so I wanted to be there for people who are experiencing side effects and are seeing that maybe this diet isn't for them, but feel like they're the ones who did something wrong since everyone else is saying that it cured everything from cancer to broken bones for them. I hope they will listen to their bodies and do what they know is right for them, no matter what anyone says. I know it's hard to seemingly be the only who is not getting better, not being cured, not having dramatic results, but trying to convince yourself of something that's clearly not happening is going to make everything worse, and if you need to leave- you are allowed to.

      Eating oatmeal every morning as a kid gave me dry skin and cholinergic urticaria (heat bumps), basically it's when you need to sweat but because your pores do not have enough lipids and fatty acids to produce sweat they instead become very hot and itchy like chicken pox. Oats absorb fats and cholesterol which is good if you're fat but they're not suitable for growing bodies.

I noticed I craved sugar where I had always went for salty before, couldn't get full even though I wasn't eating massive carbs I was drinking diet soda all day, My sleep was AWFUL even though I was using sleep aids.
    Had surgery to repair my knee, found a functional doctor and we zeroed in with bio identical hormones and still couldn't get my weight budge, enter realization that I'm probably resistant so on my last labs I asked for IR test and started a 40 hr fast 3 days later, then an 18/6 and went Omad keto and bam 5lbs broke by the time my labs came back! My doctor said I was on the verge of prediabetic and IM would greatly help and it has, I'm down 11lbs!
    I have practiced 18/6 daily and try for 36/6 to 40/6 at least once a week. I eat 19g of quality carbs a day and I feel better that I have in 16 months!

    Thank you so much for making this video. I started keto on November 29, 2019. Before that, I suffered with stage 3 Hidradenitis Suppurativa for 22 years. I tried everything to get relief. I took Accutane, Humira, Remicade, years and years of different antibiotics and steroids, lotions, creams, bleach baths, laser treatments, paleo diet, and finally went vegan for a few months (the absolute worst months of my life). Nothing worked. My HS got worse. I wasn't able to work. I wasn't able to do hardly anything. Walking was so painful. I've had 3 surgeries which eventually gave me some relief but it would always come back. In January of 2020, I started noticing that I wasn't having any new flares. My fibromyalgia stopped bothering me as well. I started feeling so much better. I have not had any new flares of hidradenitis suppurativa since then. This is the longest remission I've ever had. I can go walking without being in pain. I can raise my arms above my head. The really nice bonus is that I've lost 85 pounds. Keto works! I started watching your videos in January of 2020 and I can honestly say that I have gained so much knowledge from you and Neisha. You have helped me get my life back.

      @@d3lllt The bleach baths do provide some relief but it does dry out your skin so make sure you get some Cerave moisturizer to help counteract the dryness. I had a terrible time with intestinal nutritional malabsorption and it's finally starting to improve. My body doesn't absorb the nutrients from my food so I have to double up on supplements. So, any chance I get to tell others to try keto, or better yet, carnivore before trying biologics, I speak up. Good luck to you! I hope you find some relief.

When I was at my heaviest, I was constantly having flare-ups, and being at stage 3( the highest stage to be at for this disease), had multiple surgeries to help remedy the problem. I started to get relieve when I started keto and lost 89 pounds. Now, I might get flare-ups, here and there (usually from friction due to chaffing) but it is definitely an improvement from before. Didn’t know that insulin resistance was a possible causation but I am not surprised, either.

I was that skinny kid that then became depressed and frustrated and then later, fat.. My family with well meaning intention always had some sort of criticism. I gained a lot of weight - fat- from the steroids, - catch 22 - don't have them and i wouldn't be having this conversation. It seriously stuffed me up - i, one week was 52kg and then two weeks later from big doses of steroids to keep me alive was 86kgs, and it didn't matter how much sport i played the fat never came off. While I am certainly not against using the latest and greatest technology, sometimes the old art of simply being an astute observer of morphological problems with the body - whether that is related to the skin, hair or teeth - can be pretty instructive. Its time that this artform is resuscitated in the medical community.

They are taught that certain sets of symptoms can be controlled by “maintenance” medications, creating lifelong customers. After all, big businesses need to continue making greater profits to keep their stockholders happy and Wall Street employed.

I been watching your videos about 6 months now. 5 months ago my new doctor said my blood sugar was over 200 and it scared me enough to take on the carnivore diet immediately. I did refuse their diabetic pill and statin they wanted me on but I just knew this would work. And it is. Within just a few weeks my skin began clearing up and I am now down 50 lbs. And my appetite is now under control. My skin is so much better and I am feeling better every day. I wish I knew this as a teen. But at least I have clear skin at 62 better than never.

Took me till I was in my mid 20s to figure it out. Once I got my weight under control it went away and thankfully has not come back. But tbt trauma from bullying lingers. Dr. Berry, you are the first doctor I have ever seen who even knows what Hidradenitis Suppurativa is or acknowledged that it is a real condition. I and two of my three boys have HS and all the doctors do after "I" tell them what it is is put us on antibiotics for long periods of time. Since I found you October 2019 and started my Keto journey my HS is gone and I am 30 pounds lighter and have gone from 150mg of Synthroid meds to 88mg of Synthroid. I found your wife a few months ago and see she is totally off her meds now by going to just fatty meats and I am going to try that route to get off my meds totally as well. Thank you for sharing your talent and passion with the rest of us!!!

    • @renrick

      I've had HS my entire life. I went to see a doctor when I was in my twenties and she recommended that I use Phisoderm to clean myself oh, because you know obviously it's because I don't wash properly. I hated that bitch. Then once Google was a thing I started looking up what I thought it might be and that was when I first found out that it had a name. I was so excited because I finally knew this is not something that I was doing. So I went to see a dermatologist. When I walked in and told her that I was pretty sure that's what it was and I had it my entire life oh, she was the most pissy person I've ever encountered in my life. She got really snotty and said oh so you have a diagnosis? I was very upset and I left there with a prescription for antibiotics to be taken for the rest of my life according to her. So I just gave up and I live with it.

    • @christinetagaste2244
      @christinetagaste2244 3 роки тому +3

      @@renrick Yes, I have a prescription for antibiotics as well. I only take it when I have a flair up (when I go off Keto a few days) but since I have gone KETO, I rarely have an issue with my HS. Many doctors have no clue what HS is or how to treat it. The worst part is the way some doctors treat you like you are dirty or like it is a lifestyle problem. More people suffer from it than you would know.

      I had HS for years and going vegan/keto made it clear up.

    • @tulanzuya
      @tulanzuya 2 роки тому +1

      Pretty sure I have HS as well - for those not sure what it is, it's the formation of sore boil-like lumps or carbuncles usually in the groin and/or underarm area, also inflamed sore areas that come and go in skin folds that just seem like dry skin - the boils do produce a small amount of pus but not as much as a true Staph boil or infection - usually come in multiples or one after the other and can make life really uncomfortable. The doc kind of skipped over the description, lol., probably because it's just so plain icky.
      I generally stay on an overall low carbohydrate diet and do intermittent fasting which keeps it under control for the most part, but I find as I get older (65 now) that chocolate (in any form! even chocolate-flavored things like cake or chocolate milk) is a huge culprit. All I have to do is eat a few mini candy bars around Halloween or such and I can practically count the minutes until several lesions will appear. Other high-sugar items don't seem to have the same effect, but if they involve chocolate, look out. Took me a long time to figure this out but finally nailed the primary culprit. Would be interested to hear if this is true for anyone else.
      And the second major culprit seems to be antibiotics themselves. Found this out after a stint of dental problems over the course of a couple years when I was on and off ATBs frequently. The time frame is longer though - usually one to two months after a heavy antibiotic dosing, the HS syndrome will kick in and last for several months until clearing. Honestly have no idea how that could be related, but it seems to be true for me.

    • @tulanzuya
      @tulanzuya 2 роки тому

      P.s. - Just want to share also that while I'm getting back on track with diet and fasting, applying very warm, damp soaks to the new lesions works for me to prevent them from getting larger and out of control.

    You nailed it completly. I´ve had bad skin and most of those problems through my life. I also had corn in one of toes and dendruft broblems that i can add to that list too. I started keto lifestyle (not just diet) little less than six months a go for weight loss and to lower my A1c that was 8,5 at the time. Well in three months my A1c dropped down to 4,8 (haven´t measured that since) and now i have dropped 17 kg of weight (37.4786 lbs). So the i´ve reached for those things that i setted for goals. All the other benefits just came as a bonus. I did not have no idea that loosing carbs would have tons of benefits as well.
    Firstly 90% of my different rashes and dry skin problems are gone. Some of those needs little bit more time to heal than others. Sone of the skin tags are gone smaller and some are disappeard for good. Also that corn that i had one of my toe over 15 years has gone completly. There is not even any sign that i ever had it in forst place! I didn´t first even noticed that at all but once as i was scrubbing my toes i was surpriced that it was gone (after four months), I had to check did i remember the foot right and can this really be true. Yes it was and i surely were amazed for that.
    And what comes to dendruft, most of it have gone too. My friend said that he can see improvement on my face that i haven´t even noticed.
    There is lot more of health benefits after dropping carbs out. I breathe better, i snore less and i sleep better. My joint pains went away (i had bad aches on my knees before keto). I have slipped of to ketosis couple times in my journey and have eated too much of carbs and those joint pains came back every single time so those are purely from carbs not becouse insuline resistanse and too high blood sugar. These bonus benefits are those ones i noticed in first two weeks already.
    I can suggest to anyone just for all these health benefits to start ketogenic lifestyle. 0-20 grams carbs a day and you force your body to function with ketones instead of carbs. I haven´t changed anything else in my diet or started to exersice in anyway. All this just for dropping carbs out of my diet.
