I told my doctor I wanted a C-Peptide and she told me that Medicare would not pay for and also said she didn’t know why I would want one. I told her I wanted to see my markers for inflammation and she said everyone has inflammation and that’s how it was. I told her I would get one on my own and it was important and I know eating the way I do I’ve lost lots of inflammation in my body. I’m getting another doctor.

Medicare is a corrupt & broken chronic care system. They are using algorithms to locate when an elderly patient needs an important procedure, &then Medicare declines the procedure or determines the patient to be ineligible for benefits, in advance of giving said procedure(s). 31:36

Sandra, do you take vitamins during the fasting period or restrict them to the 4 hr also (if you take them)?
Do you have anything to drink during the 20 hours. Wondering if lemon water with Stevia is a good idea.

Sandra. I too fast 20/4. I start at 4p ending at 8p. I eat very low carb during that time. Sometimes I eat 1 biggish meal and a snack, sometimes 2 meals. It just depends what satisfies me. Outside of my eating window I will have a small cup of herbal tea or decaf coffee with a touch of cream. This has further lower my fasting glucose and has started the scale moving again after a long stall.

I could not get her nurse to call back to add fasting insulin level or c_peptide, so I asked Doc if she would order that for me and I woud just get another test. She said to me (exact words), “ I REFUSE to order those tests. I order tests for TREATMENT, so I am REFUSING to order that test.” My mind was blown, I can tell you! So she will WAIT til I have full-blown diabetes, then give me metformin to “treat” it. Needless to say, she is now my FORMER doctor.

When a few years later I had gone from 170 pounds to 218 pounds, I thought there might be wrong with the advice I had been taking, but I didn’t think it had anything to do with my beloved grains so I went vegan. Cynthia -
I am an RN with 40 years experience (mostly ICU) who greatly admires your transition and especially your opportunity to educate the masses with YT, etc and your book. I sneak in low carb advice to the rare ICU patient who is willing and able to learn about it. I handed a list of plain-talking, succinct lecturers to a young mother whose DM was out of control. I wish I could do more, I wish I had the time and talent to do what you’re doing. At this point, I cringe every time I hang sugary TPN on a comatose patient, then treat their blood sugars with Humalog every SIX hours!

I went from 260 pounds to 143 and used stevia, monk fruit and allulose the whole time. My A1c is 4.6, my blood pressure went from borderline high to 118/65, resting heartrate from 120 to 70, arthritis,, sleep apnea,, allergies,, acid reflux,, chronic pain,, fibromyalgia, fatigue, mood swings and much more gone! No meds, even over the counter anymore. Lipids are beautiful also. Going on 2 1/2 years and I think I can do this, but not if I can't live a little lol! It's a journey, and everyone does it differently. I am lucky that I am able to take a taste and not eat it all, and I realize that is not the same for everyone. I am glad that Cynthia advocates a less rigid approach to fasting. I for one love breakfast, I was raised on mostly eggs for breakfast every morning before school, and now in adulthood it is actually the easiest and most convenient nutrient-dense meal of my day. Dinner, on the other hand, I would be more than happy to skip - it would save a lot of time from cooking and doing dishes!

    • @ineedhoez

The best approach to fasting is the one that you will stick to!!!!! Also, there are studies that show that eating earlier in the day is actually better for you. Something about it coinciding with circadian rhythm and everything. I accept the statement as true but I have my meal at night.
For me, I get nighttime hunger And I have P TSD from crying myself to sleep at night because I was hungry from when I followed traditional diet advice. So dealing with any sort of hunger pangs that night is too triggering. If I push my meal till 6, I don't get any hunger pains at night. So I'll sacrifice the optimal fasting time for sustainable.

    Well well well
Finally a doctor that confronts the miss information that has pervaded the health care system.
On the 27/07/22 I embraced your recommendations with “Devastating” results..
In my 72nd year the wheels were starting to come off with most of my bloodwork heading south rather rapidly..
I have shed more than 8 kilograms to date, yes! 17lbs. Of course my blood pressure has always been on the low side shot up consistently around 170/110. BP tablets here I come. OMG my dreams and aspirations for retirement sailing around the antipodes were going as far south as my bloods.
Well one of the youngsters here in Port Bouvard Marina in Dawsville Western Australia needed some help moving his boats location. It ended up having to shuffle 5 boats and that makes a busy day. At the end of the day he needed to load his dingy on the deck but he was enervated and didn’t want to do what had to be done. I insisted and when it was done he asked the question “What do you eat?”
My response was not much. This is the truth. I could eat an elephant in the past as long as it had rice gravy with roast potatoes .
I now find eating is not hunger driven. I eat now as a means to the end, supplying my body with the nutritional requirements my body needs.
My annual check up with GP yesterday was a hoot with my doctor asking after my condition. My response was EXCELENT. He said my bloods agreed with my statement. All my tests had shown remarkable improvements and my BP is now consistently around the 115/75.
This lifestyle has amazing advantages, health and wealth. My budget has seen amazing savings. No cakes, coke sweet chilly sauce and the list goes on and on with toxic Junk filling our refrigerators.
Provisioning my vessel for extended cruising is soooo simple now. A fishing rod and some lures.
THANY YOU ALL for your encouragement and guidance.
The devastating result is that in a matter off 6 weeks I have become a 54 year old septuagenarian and a “ Tough Old Bastard” according to the young bloke in the marina.
I extol the virtues of this lifestyle but unfortunately the adage of “ there are none so blind as those that will not see” is so sadly evident.
The change is simple but the determination to see it through takes an enormous amount of discipline but for me the results are inspiring
    Thanks again.

For dinner I would have a 6oz fatty steak, usually a rib eye, a whole avocado with salt and pepper, a pile of kimchi , a hard boiled egg and some mixed nuts. Along with some mild exercise each day, literally a few minutes of push ups, some arm curls and some squats, I was the most healthy I've ever been in my life. As soon as I retired it became a bit more difficult to keep your mind off of eating like when at work which helped distract me and take my mind off of eating. Retirement sucks and now I've started my own business and hope to get back to fasting like I did in the past.

      Everything's better with butter. 👄
I've quit the cheese addiction a hundred times. A long time ago, I assumed it was The New Health Food since it was carb free. But cheese got problems. Saturated fat isn't the poison that the sugar industry propagandized for decades, but cheeze is globs of fat, which is a problem for me since I binge on it like ice cream, so I [shouldn't] bring it into the house, either. A pound of mozzarella will be gone in two days. And where does the milk come from that they turn into cheese. However, if you're having good success with your diet, I don't advocate you changing anything based on my experience. You're already doing better than most. E.g., sprinkling some parmesan cheese on your veggies is no problem, certainly not like sitting down with a huge chunk of cheese for a snack like I would do. It's just that the mention of "butter and cheese" always starts me up.
Veganism is an ideal, something to aim for, but when we choose to fall off the wagon, there's always tomorrow to get back on. I'm satisfied knowing that I eat a lot less meat than the SAD Standard American Diet.

A four ounce envelope lasts me 3 to 4 months! 1/32 of a teaspoon sweetens a large mug of coffee just fine, the key is to use just enough to take the bitterness out of whatever you are sweetening thus reducing the dopanie effect! . At my 3 month checkup these are my results. I dropped 19 lbs, my liver enzymes dropped ALT from 36 to 31 and AST from 36 to 26. As a side benefit my creatinine reduced from 0.83 to 0.76 and my GFR increased from 79 to 92. Non lab benefits. My energy is better, my gum disease is gone, my skin tags are gone my age spots are fading and some are gone and my skin feels so much softer. I still need to lose 65 lbs, so I am going to continue this journey. People often won't listen to you when you tell them how good the carnivor diet is, but when your body shows the results, they get more interested.

It has helped me change my life. Also going to a nutritionist, watching videos like this, and using my Blood sugar monitoring, I have lost 40 pounds over 2 years. I do use small amounts of stevia. Along with stevia, I will add a teaspoon of coconut sugar. Sometimes I use Date sugar or Monk Fruit, instead of coconut sugar. The small amounts don't even seem to effect my blood sugar if any at all. In the course of a day, I try not to use over 3 teaspoons of coconut sugar and 1 and half packets of stevia. It is so easy to go back to gobbling sugar and I have to watch that tendency. One needs to be conscious of one's actions, emotions and feelings.

I am so happy that a Dr like you has done so much research. Most Drs just want to shove a pill at you. They don't listen to you and they stare at their little laptop instead of me. I'm like hey, "I'm over here." I have some problems they I've been complaining about a problem for the past 5 or 6 years to several different Drs and they completely ignored me about it and I've still gotten no answers. You've been a life saver for me. Thank you!

I've been using stevia for over 20 years. I've been able to lose weight while using it to sweeten my morning single cup of coffee. I do not make keto snacks. However, I didn't hear Cynthia refer to any studies regarding stevia so I wonder based on what has she determined 'it's (stevia) not benign".
Secondly, I live in an area where ticks abound; I can't hike or mow my yard without being bit (unless I wear clothing treated with Permethrin). I have been bitten countless times over 36 years. I've never had or been diagnosed with Lymes disease. My daughter had Lymes Disease when she was two years old. There was a study that showed steviosides do a better job of treating Lymes than antibiotics.

Maybe it has its benefits but I learned the hard way that Stevia has side effects. I was on a meal plan drinking 2-3 ginger ales with it a day. My arms and limbs cramped up terribly and I was so listless that I thought I would faint. Once I stopped everything got better. Maybe the natural Stevia in moderation is different. The fake sweetness is too much for me I just avoid it altogether.

Encourage the population of possum, wild turkey, wild life in general; they eat copious amounts of ticks. BTW, it is Lyme not Lymes.

@@wildchildlikeu I once read an article about how some tribal women in an African region use Stevia tea as birth control, drinking one steeped cup per day. The women would gather in the morning as a type of female bonding ritual to make and drink the Stevia tea and then go about their day. I have no idea if this is true, only that the article said that it was a very effective means of birth control for their villages and apparently harmless to the women, while keeping their tribal numbers at 2 to 3 children per family on average. I wish there were a way to verify any of this.

I think what she means when she says it’s not benign is that it still creates a trigger in you physiologically for sweetness. When you put something sweet on your tongue or even smell sweet things, your body starts preparing for digestion which means there could be insulin responses for food you aren’t even eating or for food that doesn’t ultimately get processed by your digestive system. So if you still have insulin response due to the perception of sweetness, then it is not a benign substance just because it doesn’t necessary effect your blood sugar levels once ingested. For those who don’t experience negative side effects from stevia and who are keto/carnivore for reasons OTHER than insulin resistance, it may be fine. But for others who are trying to battle insulin resistance and reduce the amount of insulin released into their system, ingesting sweet tasting substances of any kind is not doing them any favors. I think this is what she means.

Hey, Dr. Berry. Watching this video has prompted me to thank you for your videos that I have watched and that have inspired and informed me over the last several months. On Feb 22 of this year I started IF/Keto and I am down 60 pounds with 55 more to go. I've plateaued several times but I just eat reasonable carbs for a day or two and then get back on the wagon. I had hoped to lose weight much more quickly than 2 pounds a week but I will continue on toward my goal of 160.
Thank you for all you do!

@@normakeith4472 This is the 4th time I've done Keto over the last 15 or so years. Before, when I would lose 30 or so pounds, I'd come to a stall and get discouraged and quit. This time, when I would come to a stall, I wouldn't quit. I've got too much at stake.
So, Norma, my encouragement to you is very simple. Just don't quit! :)

Thank you to both of you for trying to educate the masses! My husband is diabetic and refuses to follow keto/ carnivore with me and just keeps adding additional medications every time he goes to the doctor. I'm hoping and praying he will be receptive to change when he goes with me to Ketopalooza and the end of the month. I am so excited to meet you Dr Berry!!

Just buried my younger sister at the first of August (60 years old)...... she had metastatic breast cancer diagnosed in 2014... and also was on 3 or 4 diabetic drugs, blood pressure, cholesterol, etc...13 pills in the morning / 9 at night.... she refused to try to research and try low carb... she just wanted it easy...let the doctors give you drugs so its easy for you..... my anger with her (grief based)? I started low carb 2018.... from a facebook video of Dr. Berry giving a talk at a town meeting McKenzie,TN and research on UA-cam. She knew how well I was feeling, that I came off all meds that I was being given..... yes lost 50 lbs, but did not weigh my self for about 6 months....just felt great and clothing very loose! She asked me to weigh at Wal-Mart while we were there picking up her prescriptions. She saw these things every day as I worked at the same company with her and was her caregiver for the last 8 years.....
