The “So Far, So Good, So What” album is killer from start to finish! It never gets enough props as far as I’m concerned. One of my favourite Megadeth albums! Really, one of my favourite thrash albums period!
I have a deep affection for this album. When it came out, a friend made me a taped copy and said "you have to listen to this band." I did and since 88 they've been my favorite band. Seen them at least once on every single tour since.
It's always sandwiched between Peace Sells and Holy Wars. I can see why it's sometimes overlooked but damn, it's just as good as those two in my opinion.
When this song first came out, I had it on tape and I would play it in my stereo, headphones plugged in with an extra long cord so I could lay in bed, in the dark with the song playing so loud I could feel the music deep in my soul. Have always loved the music. I listen to the instruments more than the lyrics.
"listen to instruments more than lyrics" Yes, heavy metal is very much about how good the music is. The lyrics is a bonus. There's no background music because every instrument shines in front.
I remember someone saying CD’s killed music because they made it easier to skip songs. When 8 tracks came out there was no fast forward or rewind, If the band only had one good song you had to drive around awhile till that good song came around again.Cassette’s had fast forward and rewind but it was still more work to skip and go back on songs than CD’s.
This song is always a classic. If you want some more relationship songs, check out "Last Rites/Loved To Deth" or even "This Was My Life". But I also suggest you check out songs like "Poisonous Shadows" or even some of their recent stuff like "Nightstalkers" or "We'll Be Back"
Dude , if you liked this , you'd love the whole "the system has failed " album from them . If i'd have to recommend a single song from it , it would be "Die Dead Enough " , or if you want a heavier song i'd say "The Scorpion" .
NO FREAKING WAY!!!??? I was just listening to this last night and was wondering what your reaction would be!!! I'm a freaking prophet!!! One of my absolute favorite Megadeth songs on an underrated album.

The drummer on this album was Chuck Behler. Prior was Gar Samuelson, after Behler was Nick Menza, Jimmy DeGrasso, Shawn Drover, Chris Adler, and currently Dirk Verbeuren.
Goddamn, Alex. You NAILED it, once again. You took my 49-year old ass all the way back to the late 80s when I first discovered this album. I can't tell you how many times me and my long-haired teenage friends blasted this exact song at a party, which, btw, was always a sausage fest (chicks hated metalheads back in the late 80s... we were the plague), with all of us singing our lonely fucking hearts out along with Mustaine. A true anthem. This song... this album... hard to fucking beat. Killer reaction. Love you, brother.
You nailed my favorite thing about this song is the full range of emotions you feel when someone passes or at the end of a relationship. It's not all sadness its a lot of really complex and conflicting emotions and this song does it really well
If you listen to Liar, make sure to also listen to Hook In Mouth. After years of listening to the whole album in one sitting, Liar naturally leads into Hook In Mouth. A song about a liar, that leads into a song about politics.
Please, pleaaaaase more Megadeth! I started to listen to them after hearing Metallica, but Megadeth is ultimately my favorite band. I found the lyrics more meaningful to me. Great video, thank you!
This song was the first song that I really ever heard from Megadeth, and was my introduction to the band when I was 17. Thanks for reacting to this song!
I remember as a kid buying this cassette when it came out. Then my jackass brother mentioned it was the same album recently in the news about a kid killing himself after listening to this song a lot. Needless to say we were back on our way to Kmart to return it.
There is a live 2014 album with a few hits then they play the entire album Countdown to extinction in full from beginning to end. Easy way to get HQ sound.
In the Mid90s, this song was my best friends lifeline. He'd just gotten into the band from the "Youthanasia" album, transcending from his Grunge taste into more metal. I was and am a Nirvana/Grunge obsessive, but loved hearing about how much he loved this song, the mid song change of pace, the dark heavy drama leading it thru the finish line. Always reminds me of our conversations together at the time.
In some paralel universe Dave Mustaine never left Metallica and all this energy combined with James' created one of the most awesome bands ever. (Personally I think we're lucky to have two amazing bands in our timeline, but that's just me... )
Yep, you just perfectly summarized my thoughts on that subject. It would be really cool if both Metallica and Megadeth were to do a collaboration on an album or song together, other than the obvious collaboration on "Am I Ev!l" at the Big 4 concerts.
Ive had brilliant conversations over the years about that with friends and we all pretty much agreed that, Mustaine would more than likely have left MetallicA at some point anyway. Maybe not during Kill Em All, but his own identity was forging itself via his own solo written songs, and the frontman within him anyway would have been dying to get out there and belt out the vocals and control himself. And all the better for it. I think, that had he remained in the band, their personalities would have clashed like comets together anyway resulting in him eventually leaving to lead his own team. Mustaine and Hetfield were destined to be top tier metal frontmen with their own bands.
This song is incredible and has a deep meaning behind it as it was written by Dave Mustaine for Metallica's bassist Cliff Burton who died in 1986 2 years before the album came out. This was written during his darkest hour when he hear the news about Cliff.
I was eleven years old when this album dropped. I first was turned on to Megadeth the year prior with “Peace Sells…” It’s not an exaggeration to say that THIS song saved my life multiple times. Still gives me goosebumps 37 years later.

Even though this song is about isolation and loniless and a lot of the lyrics are aimed towards an Ex-Girlfriend Dave wrote this song on the day he heard Cliff Burton died so its become an unofficial tribute to Burton
when does Dave Mustaine ever say this was a tribute to Cliff? He might have dedicated this song to him, like how an author dedicates a book, but a tribute this is not.

@@Tennessee968 I was backstage interviewing Jonathan Davis and, while I didn't actually meet Dave Mustaine or get to see Megadeth's set, it was hil-f*cking-arious watching Dave Mustaine absolutely lose his mind over something his kid did backstage.
@@Tennessee968 I kinda miss the 90s if for no other reason than the fact that there were about a billion little self produced music 'magazines' back then. Most of them were just xeroxed black and white deals that people made in their basement. What was great about that was the fact that, if you looked on just about any band's CD/cassette cover, you could find the contact info for their management company. If you were even a halfway decent bullsh*tter, you could tell the management company that you wrote for whichever ones were in your area and they would send you ticket(s) and backstage passes. No one ever checked. There were limits of course. You couldn't weasel your way into the bigger artist's shows or anything but I was happy enough with the ones I managed to get into. I do regret one thing though. I never should have asked Jonathan Davis where the name Korn came from. The story didn't bother me very much but my boy Paul looked green around the gills for about 3 hours after he heard the story...lol
A lot of people think this is a song about Cliff, it's not, if you don't write Music you don't understand that you put everything into a song at the time and space, the Music is about Loss, the lyrics are about a woman Dave loved and as we all do get our Hearts broken when we are young, ''Trust'' later takes into another level when you Marry someone or been in love w someone so long and much that even cheating you let pass by because of how much you love that person. Dave dedicated this piece to Cliff because he felt a huge loss that day as any of us do on THAT day.

Ah Megadeth! Welcome to the family brother 🤘👽🤘
Just listen all the "so far, so good so what" album
A lot of people think this is a song about Cliff, it's not, if you don't write Music you don't understand that you put everything into a song at the time and space, the Music is about Loss, the lyrics are about a woman Dave loved and as we all do get our Hearts broken when we are young, ''Trust'' later takes into another level when you Marry someone or been in love w someone so long and much that even cheating you let pass by because of how much you love that person. Dave dedicated this piece to Cliff because he felt a huge loss that day as any of us do on THAT day.
More Fit For a King please! Check out their new song "End(the other side)" then go down the rabbit hole and check out "Backbreaker" for an unbelievable scream, and "when everything means nothing"
Dude what about pissed off? That has one of the gnarliest screams in metalcore imo
