I was in a hotel in Edinburgh, and decided to go to the bar... I had already tried every whisky that they had except the Signet. It is rare near where I live, and expensive. Well, that dram cost me quite a chunk and the bartender had never poured a dram from that bottle, so who knows for how long it had been opened? I was not disappointed. It was one of my most pleasant and memorable whisky experiences.
Very nice! My first taste of signet was at a bar on my birthday. I went and bought one the next day!
Hi Paul, my wife & I finally cracked open the Signet and it was everything you said and more. It has ruined how I gauge Scotch now, when I’m looking to add to my humble collection, I now ask if it’s better than the Signet or not. It’s more Cacao than the Macallan Cacao and so much more depth. On another note, ur podcast is encouraging us to venture into Bourbon. We started with Blue Run Reflection I, because it’s the only one we can find, not a good starter Bourbon, and today we picked up Eagle Rare 10 years old, which you have a review of and we plan to keep hunting for their 17 year old. Thanks again for the wonderful productions you put out there and guiding us through this rabbit hole of Scotch and Bourbon. Cheers!
I'm very glad to hear it!
Enjoy your channel, ordered this bottle today, should have it soon
Thanks! I hope you enjoy
My absolute favorite ever. Everyone who tried it loved it!
It’s really a good one. $200 is a hard pill to swallow but I think it’s unique enough to justify the price
Yes! Thank you for doing this review! I'm going to splurge and buy a bottle. $220 in my area.
Hope you enjoy it!
Thank you for the great review. I enjoy ur channel very much. I have a Signet that’s still unopened. Waiting for the right time to try it. Your review makes me want to buy a back up bottle. My rule is buy 3 and drink one. BTW, Really love ur modern shelving system. I’ve been looking for something like it that showcases my collection because yours doesn’t look cluttered and looks unobtrusive with the room. Well done. Cheers
Thank you! If you’re interested, the shelves are from Hobby Lobby and about $100 each. They’re really sturdy (metal frame and real wood shelves) and they hold a lot of whiskey! I think I have about 40 bottles per shelf. I added the lighting separately.
Hey malt mates, what do YOU think of the Signet?
You get the dry oak on the back end, there is some old whisky in this blend, it is derived from well cared for old great casks. Without a doubt
I agree I definitely think you can taste the age in here. To me it tastes around 18-20 years old on average. I just wish glenmornagie would be a little more forthcoming with specifics
Sir which do you prepare to buy glenmorangie signet glenfiddich 21 or blue label? I am confused which is which
I'm yet to go into the Glenmorangie line-up! Would love to try because everyone recomands it after really liking the Glendronach 12 and soon will crack open a 2019 botteling of the 21 Glendronach! Don't know if you had the last one but how does it compare with the Signet as far as you know?
I'd recommend trying the Quinta Ruban. I think it's fantastic value at $50. I haven't had the Glendronach 21, but based on the 12, 15, 18 & 25, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Glendronachs are straight up sherry bombs and I would classify them as very sweet whiskies too. So if you like it, try out the Signet, it's not nearly as rich as the older glendronach's since it has bourbon and virgin oak casks used, but the milk chocolate and mocha flavors are fantastic.
@@MaltMondays Thanks for the great reply. I think the Glendronach line-up is indeed very deep and rich and not many others within a normal price range will top that but when i'm in a "lighter" mood i will definitely think of Glenmorangie next time!!
Stil need to try this one i have a bottle in my collection bud stil didn't crack it open haha waiting vor a nice moment
I don't know if its the lighting but its way too dark.. I have 2 of these and they're not that dark
My bottle was several years old, it’s possible the color of each batch varies slightly, but my bottle has always been almost that dark in person as well. On video it does look slightly darker since there’s no backlighting though.
I don't get it brother. When would anybody consider that a high-proof alcohol friend? I don't know anybody that would consider that a high ABV in any whiskey of any style. Let me I usually think of 100 proof is pretty much The Sweet Spot and anything under that is is pale. And only after you get above that I even start to consider thinking that it's a higher ABV. I've had a bottle of that naftuli love it and I think if they would sell that in a cask strength you would be extremely special
I agree with you that 100 proof is the sweet spot for most whiskies.
However, the vast majority of liquor sold is 40% ABV. You may not consider 46% high ABV, but your experience isn't indicative of the overall market. In the video I said its relative to the category of Scotch where global volume sold is overwhelmingly 40% ABV. JW outsells the next 3 producers combined, and all their products are 40% or at max 43% for their most expensive bottles which sell essentially 0 volume relative to their total production. The top 5 producers, JW, Ballantines, Grants, Willaim Lawsons, and Chivas are ALL 40% ABV producers outsell the next 20 producers combined, and there isn't any producer in the top 20 that doesn't release almost exclusively 40% ABV product. So yes, 46% is 'higher-proof' statistically. Even 43% would be considered 'higher proof' since it is higher than the majority.
@@MaltMondays thanks for the info. I'm a serious whiskey need and most of everything I search for is cask strength stuff. Rarely do I buy even a 45 %. I do however buy some of that. I have had a couple bottles of the Signet and enjoyed it very much. I didn't realize so much of it was less than 45. Take care brother
I rarely purchase anything below 46 myself at this point and certainly for Bourbon I’m almost always 100 proof or higher. I generally find the Cask strength version of whiskies much better so that’s what I look for too!
@@MaltMondays exactly. And it also gives everybody the freedom to add a little bit of water to The Sweet Spot The Taste best to them and of course that's always the fun is parsing out all the different flavors in the nose and in the mouth is well
You're too young to have gray in your beard.
Probably my Irish blood. Red hair tends to go white early I’ve been told!
