Excellent video -- hey, if you could drop me a line or throw me a reply -- what's that Fair Use counter? My channel's new and I've an idea for a cool series -- but it would require using material for commentary.

I shared all the seasons with my own Mother, who I moved home to take care of in 2011. We shared all those wonderful Sunday nights of graphic violence and soft-core porn, but also a love of the Medieval history on which this series is based. She died in February of 2018, and so missed the final season herself. I feel your pain.

Totally agree about Dany. Foreshadowing is not characterization. Foreshadowing tells you it's coming, characterization makes it believable. Different things.

Pretty sure there's been both of those showing Dany has a temper to say the least and enjoys seeing people burn. And I wasn't happy with the second half of this episode. But the Dany stuff is not out of nowhere

    • @mrjdgibbs
      @mrjdgibbs 5 років тому +2

@@el34glo59 you're not right, and here's how you know. The last episode, without changing it at all, would have made more sense if Dany hadn't gone completely batshit worse than Hitler the previous episode. If, for example, she'd just blasted the red keep and caused a bunch of casualties the tension between Tyrion and Jon would have been more real. You'd genuinely be able to feel Jon's conflict. You'd be actually sad when Danaerys dies.
      But nope...

One thing I like about your reactions is that while you do make predictions, you then say "I don't know". It's such a relief to watch someone who KNOWS they're just guessing, rather than some of these reactors who declare something's going to happen, then get pissed off when it doesn't.

I would have hated it if Arya did it. Her moment of awesomeness was when she killed the Night King. Give someone else a chance. Someone with more of an emotional stake in whether Dany lives or dies.

I love that you got it. Like I've said, Drogon broke the wheel. When I realized that I cried and cried. Drogon's anguish at how foolish and destructive humans were acting over this cursed chair was palpable and he obliterated it because he is a wiser and more compassionate creature than all of us. He was like, "There, THAT for your bloody iron chair, it brought death and destruction to all who pursued it. Let this be a warning and a lesson to you!" It killed everyone he ever loved, and he'd had enough. I felt so sad for him. That's when the tragedy of the moment really hit me hardest.

That's a great story! I'm sorry to hear that your mom passed away, may she rest in peace. For me, I started watching game of thrones in 2016 because most of my friends were talking about it and how cool it was. I know it took me a long time to get on with it and start watching, I mean there were 6 seasons out in 2016. And then in 2017 i watched season 7 with a friend, and those times were so good. We were waiting anxiously every week for the new episode to see what is going to happen next and we always went shopping for snacks and drinks the day before. And now... 2019, damn what a journey it was! It feels like the end of an era.

I didn't like the way the show ended, but man what an experience it's been watching it and sharing with friends and family for the past 8 seasons. Whatever my feelings on the finale, it doesn't change the fact that it's still one of the greatest TV shows of all time. Now let's see how the spin-offs turn out! Anyway, I really enjoy your reactions because you seem very genuine and laid back. Keep it up and take care.

Everything you mentioned about Mr Freeze and being driven to do anything for the person you love perfectly described Jamie Lannister's character. Love, for him, was his addiction and stronger than anything he went through during the show good or bad. I think he was a complex character and well written to the end.

I wanted it to be Jon that killed her. It made sense to me that he would be the one. It was beautifully done. Arya had her amazing moment when she killed the Night King...Jon loved Dany but he could see that she was too far gone in her madness & she had to be stopped before she killed more innocent people. He sacrificed his love for her, to protect thousands of innocent people from any more carnage

I loved that Jon never said he forgave Sansa, who was manipulating everyone in this last season. Sansa got what she wanted, and the crown was on the idea of Cersei being crowned. She is another Cersei/LittleFinger. Sansa did help the North, but even more for herself. I liked they left the characters in a position to go on and make the movie. Kit Harrington did a great job acting as the **beaten man**…..you could see/feel his pain. What, as a fan, I would've loved to see is a motherless Wildling little redhaired girl running around among all the Wildlings with her bow and arrow, Ygritte's daughter and Jon's. Before you say there wasn't time, we don't know how much time did pass, a yr is all that was needed. I LOVED Jon and ghost reunited, and ghost leading the ppl. Peter Dinklage is a fantastic actor, and he did right by his portrayal of Tyrion, especially this last season, I cried when he found Jamie, and when he had his last talk with Jamie in his cell before he let him out. I did think Arya died, riding away on the white horse, but I should've known GRRM would never do that. Or....if you saw the boat Tyrion had for Jamie and Cersei sail away with someone in it, or two. But.....it really was the only way to end this part, and I do think the movie will be out in 3 yrs.

I feel the pain about your Mom. I moved home to take care of mine after my Dad died in 2010, and found a friend who shared my love of history and fiction, especially Medieval. We shared each other libraries all those years, including this series of books, and the HBO series as well. So yes, I did spend my Sunday evenings sitting with my 85+ Mom sharing graphic violence and sort core porn. She loved it, and I only regret that she died before the final season started, as she was looking forward to it. She also predicted the way most of the plot would work out. I have no problem with that either, just wish they had a couple more episodes to stretch it out a bit. A filming budget can only go so far, I guess.
As a chairfull of dogfood once put it, 'If you think this has a happy ending, you haven't been paying attention.' GRR Martin all along wanted this to be a story about absolute power corrupting absolutely, and the hints about Dany's descent into madness were there all along for many seasons. This was never intended to be a 'fairy tale', and anyone who finds a 'happy ending' in human history as simply chosen the point at which they stopped reading....

The seasons in the GOT world last for years. Sometimes a summer may last for 5 or 6 years, followed by a winter that goes on for 3 or 4. Sometimes summer may last for 20 or 30 years, and winter then comes to stay for generations. The house Stark words, "Winter is coming," have to do with the difficulty of living in the north, where it's almost winter-like even in the summer, and horrific in the winter. A lot of people were confused that the whole, "Winter is coming," thing had something to do with the Night King and the White Walkers but it doesn't. In the timeline of the show, it's been summer for nearly 30 years, and people are worried that when winter finally comes it will be a really bad one.

Let me explain the climate thing. King's Landing's is imagined to be like a megacity on the Dalmatian coast, so it's climate mirrors the climate of Dalmatia. The climate there is quite peculiar. It's Mediterranean without a doubt, but since it's further north than, say, Greece, it's prone to cold snaps from Siberia from time to time, maybe not every winter, but almost certainly at least once every 5 years or so. Thus, you can google pictures of icicles on the palm trees in Split and their whole corniche covered in ice and snow. It's almost a surreal image. And in a couple weeks it is sunny again. Thus, the way the things played out with the winter storm and the sunny, yet undeniably cold, weather a few weeks later felt really authentic.

You did not see it from both side. You missed Daenerys' point. In S5, Daenerys was telling Hizdahr it would be worth "returning cities to the dirt for good reasons". Early in last episode, she was telling Tyrion how the people or Meereen rose against the masters when she turned up. She blamed the people of King's Landing for not choosing to betray Cersei. She deemed them unworthy, so she decided to return them to the dirt. She will not love a people that does not love her.

You're a Gemini-- that explains it. I always find your analysis of shows to be very much in alignment with my own. I'm a Gemini, too.

they should have dedicated a full 10 episode season 8 to the war with the white walkers and end with the night king dying, and then have the war on cersei be a full season 9. that way they could let her slip further and further into madness instead of it being super rushed, and we could see Jon battle with his emotions and loyalty instead this depressed version he is now.

2:34... Sorry for your loss Sith.. I can see it still gets you when you talk about her man. But.. Fuck. Could you imagine leaving GoT on the RED WEDDING of all things... Never knowing that Joffrey was just two episodes away from his own death, that Nedd WAS a good man, That Jon was actually a Targaryan...

Why the hell wasn't Dany pregnant despite all the baby talk last season? Could've made that scene a bit tragic at least
