Wil Rodriguez in my new head canon Jon and Daeny fook off to the land of always Winter and use Drogon for central heating and a hot tub Ygritte and Daeny share him. Bran can’t find them cuz they live in a cave and live off raven meat. Ygritte explains what happens when Jon bends BOTH knees.

    STARKS FOR THE WIN!!!
The speech by Tyrion was a metaphor for the world that we live in today. that through all the shit that divides us of whether it's Nations, politics, race, religion and etc.... a story, g o t, brought the entire world together and taught us that the only way make sure history does not repeat itself over and over is to embrace it and no whitewashing, sugarcoating or flat out lying about what we've done as a species embracing our faults by letting them lead us forward.
Bran took the Tully words to heart, in proper order unlike Kat, "family, duty, honor" he made sure Sansa, Arya and Jon would live and have the lives they wanted and needed. Drogon was smarter than even his own mother bc he knew it wasn't Jon that killed her it was the throne. I'm only sad that this story that's brought the entire world together to listen and love is over.

This is an example of why I consider you guys as a couple of the best reactors for me, alongside Hogwarts, Sesskasays, and SithFurion (all for their own reasons): When it comes to Bran being king, you were honest in expressing that he was not who you wanted on the throne, HOWEVER, after it happened, you articulated really well to recognize the apparent intention behind why he was chosen. I appreciate this because, while I recognize the shortcoming of the writing leading up to that which doesn't flesh out or build up Bran well enough to clearly justify him being king, I actually really like the idea of it because of the principle of his character as the three-eyed-raven, which Tyrion at least roughly summarized. So thank you for being honest AND for recognizing the merit of the decision! I really wish more reactors and reviewers who shit all over the writing lately could consider things a bit deeper than "This writing doesn't make any sense on first glance, therefore its simply hot garbage!". Thank you for doing so!

It's amazing to think Bran should be the rightful King. What did Bran do? help me understand. The battle of Winterfell, what did he do? Where was he during the battle of Kings Landing. Did he ever share any insight with anyone to help out? I forgot, he did go inside some crows to see what the Night King was doing. Bran as King is a total joke. Now let us talk about Bron on the Kings counsel. This is also a joke. He's given two kingdoms under the threat of killing someone and now lets put him on the Kings counsel.

@@soupc111 It's more like, what did the writers do to build him up into that position (which the answer is: Not enough), because I believe that GRRM had intended him to be the one to end up on the throne, but D&D failed to put enough focus on leading him there clearly. Because of that, we have to fill in for ourselves what the meaning of his character was throughout the whole thing at least through the intentions of GRRM. A lot of it though has not so much to do with "what he did" than, "Is he the right kind of person to lead as a king because of the circumstances" which is: Yes. He's not passionate, he is wise, benevolent, and he sees things that nobody else can. He has advantages in his case that are desperately needed by Westeros to have in a king in order to actually break the wheel and introduce what is actually "good" for the realms. These are the kinds of things that D&D should have fleshed out more, but because it was so rushed to just wrap things up lickety split, they couldn't, and we're just (unfortunately) supposed to put 2&2 together for ourselves with these kinds of things.

@@proteusblack8913 I hear too many complaints from book readers how why they should have to figure some things out, I do, I try to remember what GRRM writes and see how it meshes and make my opinion then.
And book fandom, it was NO secret where GRRM was going with Cripple, Bastards and Broken things, or The Starks are his heroes.
It's politics, drama, quasi history, magic, but most of all it's a Generational tale of the Stark kids finding their way back home.

I will say I must agree, this season of GOT has been poorly written. Its sad. There was a way they could have rehabilitated Dany. I hate her story arch as this woman was severly traumatized as well from everything she went through. Jon was a sucker who had no skill in convincing her properly. He along with Tyrion and Arya allowed the fear of what she MAY do cause him to kill her immediately after such s horrific series of events including the last battle. She need love and time...in my opinion. Anyway, it was too rushed. You guys take care.

In my opinion, the “Night’s Watch” was only for Dany’s followers. Bran knows there is no Night’s Watch. It’s a way to appease GreyWorm. Night’s Watch was created to defend against White Walkers and Wildlings, but the former is gone and latter are allies because of Jon. So, he’s free to live beyond the wall as just Jon-no oaths, no expectations. Jon is free. Not what the fans wanted maybe but what Jon wanted.

    • @missliss2581able
      @missliss2581able 5 років тому +1

I absolutely agree. That was a fake out. Bran knew good and well there was not really a night’s watch and that Jon could go be free beyond the wall. And honestly, with the unsullied gone, if he decides to defect it’s not like queen Sansa or king bran is going to punish him 🤷🏾‍♀️

@D Leo I think most of us have known what Jon wants through what he doesn't want. He desired a name, but the one he discovered he had came with baggage he didn't want. Jon was always his best and most assured when he was at the Wall as a soldier without glory, now he gets to be that again, but with entirely different relationships and a renewed sense of purpose. Jon has never been able to put into words what he wants, we just had to watch him and trust the people who can speak his desires into words (Tormund).

    • @mtamani1
      @mtamani1 5 років тому +2

@D Leo they had to appease Greyworm because the Unsullied would've opened fire right then and there. And here we go, another war. They were trying to talk it out and compromise instead of continuing the seemingly endless bloodshed. And I thought it was kind of obvious throughout the series that Jon thrived at the Nights Watch and beyond the Wall. He doesn't belong in Kings Landing or Winterfell really, he's exactly where he's supposed to be.

Jon is the King Beyond the Wall. Bran knew there was no night watch knew that Jon was happy with Igritte and the wildlings. Thormund told him that he belonged to the real North so that't why he was sent there. To be in peace and free.
In a way the StARKS are dominating the world. they won the game of thrones. Sansa in the North, Bran in the 6 Kingdoms , Jon beyond the wall and Arya searching for a new world. Ned would be so proud.

"Cripples, Bastards, and Broken Things". A quote from Tyrion and now "Bran the Broken", named by Tyrion. This is the point of the ending. Everyone now in power came from either extremely humble beginnings or great adversity, so now they more accurately reflect the common people. No entitled messiahs, no destinies to rule. The story has ALWAYS been against those things and now the people of Westeros get to live in a better world governed by people who all know what it's like to struggle, to be poor, and to be shit upon. That's the point of the story.

since 2014, D﹠D have stated publicly & also rumored since 2013 that I could find, that they wanted to do (& semi-planned) only 7 seasons, so GTFO with your "they just wanted to do Star Wars" shit. You shouldn't blame only them. GRRM hasn't finished the 6th book, let alone the 7th. When they semi-planned the ending, that was because they knew where things were going to end up, had ideas about how to get there, but were also hoping GRRM would have at least finished one book so they would have had more source material. Also *GRRM has publicly criticized HBO for **_making_** D﹠D create storylines & give airtime to unimportant characters* just because of their Q-rating. Blame needs to be spread all around, not just one group.

There is another fantasy book series called The Wheel of Time. It is a fourteen book series that Robert Jordan started in 1990. Robert Jordan died of cancer before he could complete the series. (I believe he was eleven books in) Before he died though, he hand picked another writer (Brandon Sanderson) to finish the series for him. He gave him all of his notes, materials and told him how he planned to wrap everything up. Even Robert's wife helped Brandon finish the series (She was Jordan's editor anyway). Brandon was able to finish the series in three more books. I loved this book series. The reason I bring this up is that Amazon Prime is creating a tv series from these novels and a lot of the GOT crew has signed on because they are filming in a lot of the same locations. Apparently it will start filming this September and I am looking forward to it. I hope they do it justice. I am not sure how they plan on incorporating the 14 books into the show but I hope maybe 14 seasons? who knows. Just keep it in mind if you want to keep this channel going in the future.

@Zwarte Zeurpiet Lots of these writers of sci fi / fantasy were fans of Tolkien. I think you would be hard pressed to find anyone in this genre not influenced by him. There are characters and possibly situations that resemble Tolkien's work but I do not think it was a direct ripoff. Like I said before, I hope they do it justice. The guy that is in charge of bringing this to life was a producer on Agents of Shield and a writer on Chuck. I like both of those shows so I will give him a chance.

To present Daenerys with a quandary that would threaten her egoistic perceived "destiny" and to give Jon the temptation of a name and a destiny (his greatest desire), but one that he will ultimately reject because the story itself is about rejecting such notions. It also allows him to be closer to Daenerys in a way that no one else is so that he can do what he does.

Bran was a big surprise I guess its funny as a boy he was there to first see King Robert approach winterfell now he himself becomes king. But I guess as the man who knows the past successes and failures of kings before him makes him wise to learn from the past to ruling the future. No one will dare try to lie or betray Bran because he will know. Bran will always be 10 steps ahead of any threat. He knows everyones next move. Plus he can probably warg drogon.
Jon has come full circle in his story. As one who never fit in anywhere as a bastard he joined the Night’s Watch voluntarily to find a purpose there and ironically he did when he learned of the white walkers so that became his journey to save the world and when that was done he knew the threat Dany posed her massacring the citizens of king’s landing and her intent to do the same elsewhere was not going to stop so Jon returns to the Night’s Watch as a price for his actions in protecting the kingdom and yet he seemed at peace helping the freefolk rebuild their home the lands beyond the wall will be different with him there, notice the green plants growing as he lead them back. He helped the freefolk survive now he goes beyond the wall help them live now that the white walkers are gone.

For all the fans of the Song of Ice and Fire out there, a glint of hope in the darkness.
In yesterday's blog post - a response to Air New Zealand's invite to finish the next book in New Zealand, away from all the distractions - GRR Martin confirms he will attend World SciFi Con in NZ in Summer 2020, and then literally says: "But I tell you this - if I don’t have THE WINDS OF WINTER in hand when I arrive in New Zealand for worldcon, you have here my formal written permission to imprison me in a small cabin on White Island, overlooking that lake of sulfuric acid, until I’m done."
I can't remember him having given such a specific (sort of) indication for a looong time...
I guess it could mean the book is due for release later this year or early next year?
He and his publishers undoubtedly know he would benefit from not waiting too long after the series' end.

The Kingslayer was not executed for slaying King Targaryen. But, I'm fine with Jon at the Wall. He needs a long time to wallow in melancholy and Tormund will be good for what ails him. Jon is overly delicate in his sensibilities and dear Tormund is anything but. I was repulsed by Bran as king until I heard their rationale. Now I agree. Bran will give Tyrion a free hand. Tyrion can at last exercise his one true talent. He is a born administrator. The rest of the new council is fine, except for Bronn. The best thing about Bran is that he will serve as the conscience of the realm without any passions of his own. Nobody can pull the wool over his eyes. His access to true history will help prevent repeating the same mistake twice. I gather his hindsight is 20/20 but his foresight is very hazy. Once the foreign army clears out, Jon might get a king's pardon. Sansa can pardon Jon if Bran will not. Sure she might see Jon as a threat to her reign but less so after she's had time to consolidate her authority.
Afterall, Dany did mean to conquer "all the world". She was not a coronated queen and she did commit war crimes. Bran can confirm that Tyrion did his best urging Jon to execute Dany. Her notion of liberation did not include free will. "They don't get to choose". What she offered was slavery called by a different name. Dany embodied the seductive allure of absolute power and absolute corruption. Jon was the nameless everyman who overcame the temptation. His true parentage served only to negate her birthright claim and expose her naked ambition. It removed every last shred of entitlement and justification for her industrial scale slaughter of innocents.
I consider Jon far more a hero than a criminal. And when you think about it, it was Jon who broke the wheel. Instead of revolutionary war, Westeros enjoyed a one man coup d'etat. The lords were so shook up by Dany's conquest that they ditched hereditary monarchy and opted for elections. That is a massive power shift from crown to populace and it is thanks to Jon. Bran's election seemed a minor moment but the ramifications will ripple out with time. I think he means to be little more than a place holder allowing a people's government to take shape.

Valkyrie Sardo I agree with your thought. I too believe Jon was the unsung hero. He was half Targaryen and half Stark. The Targaryen half wanted to stick with Dany but the Stark half knew she was wrong and had to be stopped. Not an easy decision to make. Broke my heart.
I have some thoughts about Bran too. Bran knew this all had to happen in the order it did because of his visions. Even though I could slowly see it coming, if Bran shows up he’s there for a reason. I didn’t see Bran going off back to the North and being the three eyed raven. What would be the point of that? At least with him being King, we as watchers of the show, can have the idea that he will be able to use his “powers” to foresee problems and intervene if he sees fit like he did before he was king. It would be too boring for me to know that he would be sitting in a tree somewhere doing nothing.
Jon - he’s where he should be. Bran knew that he couldn’t be harmed with Tormond and the rest of the Wildlings. All the comments about Ghost not being petted in the 5th episode??? Got me a bit angry for the show. There are times that a look is all that is needed. Jon was going off to war, again. And I don’t think this happened exactly overnight. I’m sure there was time for petting before.

I only really wanted for all the Starks to get what they wanted out of their lives and we sorta got that. I wasn’t so happy with Jon’s outcome at first but after rewatching I understood why it was done this way. He was tired of fighting, it’s all he ever did. He didn’t want to be King and for the first time in his life, though he was “punished”, he can now just live his life with no one expecting anything of him. There is no more threat up north, he can resettle with the wildlings and just be. The ending has actually grown on me. Thanks for your fantastic reactions ❤️

It was all speculation at first, but as episodes 1-3 bore out that the leaks were true, the rest followed. I'm not sure if I'm happy or not that I avoided spoilers. The Bran choice almost needed preparation for, lol.
I actually didn't mind the results of the plots - give or take a ruined Jaime arc - no way that happens in the books- -. I just hated how they got there. No build up, no complexity, no rationale. The result of shortened seasons. Everyone in the production deserved better than what the show runners gave them.

Tormund told Jon that he belonged in the North, which is where he ended up. I know everyone wanted to see him on the throne but he didn't want it. I'm sure he would have liked to have spent more time with his family but ultimately he'll be happier living north of the wall.
Regarding sub par writing, it's gotten worse since the end of season 5, when the show runners ran out of source content.

Breath- Bran and Tyrion appeased GW, he's going to Naath and won't be back ( the butterflies will kill them in 24 hrs. ) Bran and Tyrion mentioned the wall ( GW knows nothing of the NW ), Bran and Tyrion's rules and laws only extend south of the neck.
The wall falls under the purview of Winterfell and it's current ruler who just happens to be the new Queen and sister of a new King and sister to one Jon Snow. Jon's free, but if he want's to "Parley" with the New Queen or King under LC business he can.
I doubt very much Sansa would allow harm to come to Jon.

I think with tyrion looking for his siblings it's like the starks no matter what your family comes first. Basically the ending is everyone goes home again. The whole scenario with jon and the wildlings is no one is going to check on him so he's more or less free, it was a way for bran to get him out of kings landing until the unsullied and the others left.

Bran sent Jon to the Wall (most of which still stands, BTW) specifically so that the Unsullied and Dothraki wouldn't start a civil war against the Northerners. They're not 'protecting' the North anymore; Jon is now in charge of re-building the area, which has never happened before.

  • @lladerat
    @lladerat 5 років тому

This is how is should have ended for Bran:
    -We have to choose someone.
-Why do you think i came all this way?
    - (everyone else) Im sorry but who the fuck are you even?
-I am Three Eyed Raven, i can see the past and the future and i can do things.
    - lol wtf, no.
Then Sam, Arya, Tyrion and Sansa are like: hey btw Jon Snow is Aegon Targaryen, the man who killed first white walker, the man who from a bastard became Lord Commander of the Night's Watch, who died, got ressurected , the man who united people against the Night King, who became The King in the North (and still is) , who helped defeating NK and WW, the man who flew on a fucking dragon and the man who killed the Mad Queen Daenerys, the most dangerous woman in all of Westeros history, i think he is the best choice we can ever have and he proved that he is not just another mad Targaryen. I think we should pick him. Bran... you kinda let hundreds of thousands of people burn to death and you have the audacity to say you can see the future and you could have warned others but you didn't and yet you STILL ask we should all elect you as a King? You are not our brother anymore so go fuck yourself and be grateful that we dont just execute you right on this fucking place right now.
    - * okay sadface *
Greyworm be like "shit... this guy is Targaryen too? I should have guessed when he flew on a dragon, im so dumb.. Better not fuck with him then, im going to just fuck off to Naath then, bye!

  • @mydudeleakytiki3261
    @mydudeleakytiki3261 5 років тому +1

What I didn't get was Jon telling Greyworm that he killed Dany. He just as easily could have said something like ...
Jon: Greyworm ... Drogon killed Dany!
    Greyworm: How he do it?
Jon: Dany ordered that he melt the throne, and while Drogon was 'drakari-ing', he accidentally stepped backward, right on top of Dany ...
look ... here's the blood stain.
Greyworm: Uhhhm ... where is he now?
Jon: He got all embarrassed and flew off with Dany's body stuck to his foot!
I could see a story like that working. Why did he have to be so 'George Washington'? He easily could have avoided jail and the eventual taking the black.
Hope ya'all check out some other shows and give us your reactions. One I recommend is called 'The Expanse'. It was on Sci-Fi for the first 3 seasons but Amazon picked it up. If you like early space sci-fi expansion, I think you'd love this.

Letting the Unsullied kill Jon would have started a war and letting Jon go free would have started a war. Tyrion said it himself. By Bran sending Jon to the Wall did two things: 1. He avoided a war. 2. He gave Jon a way out by going to the Night's Watch and then leaving with the Wildings.

Also, Bran is sending Jon home. There is no Nights Watch, which is why Tormund is still waiting for Jon at Castle Black with Ghost. They're waiting there to take him home to where he belongs. The only place he ever felt at home: The true North.

Also, Bran can obviously see into the future, which is precisely why he chose Tyrion as Hand and why he stays quiet or vague about the exact nature of his powers. Melisandre repeatedly got herself into trouble telling people their future as she saw them, but Bran knows better. Give them a nugget, but don't tell them it's a nugget, and let the future work itself out.*
*Mel does work this out in the end, giving Arya a nugget and letting her work it out on her own.

Bran didn't become ruler because he deserved it. Being king isn't some kind of reward, it's a symbolic position, a uniting force. The king has a government (small council) that in reality rules, he is only the name behind their decisions. The king has to carry some kind of epic aura. Tyrion is right, parents will tell their children stories about Bran and his journey. They will admire him and be proud of living in the time when he rules and stay proud of their land and loyal to their king. A genious choice!

The modern class of the Night's Watch was never protecting against White Walkers because none of them even believed that they really existed or didn't believe they existed anymore, at least, and were history, never to return again. What the Night's Watch was protecting against was the threat of the Wildlings. But, the result right now is the same, there is no threat, but you are wrong in thinking it all hinged on the White Walkers cause the White Walkers existing at all was a surprise to the Night's Watch of the recent past. I presume they are now just like border patrol at this point and the eyes and ears of what is coming and protecting against any threat, which could include eventually other nations and continents off the map trying to do what Arya is currently doing, except with ill intent and an entire army. The same way vikings used to try and take over the entire world.

Dany's ambition was always meant to be her undoing, the lesson of the story is that power without accountability can never truly liberate. Jon holding his murdered love only a few feet from her heart's true desire (the throne), is very Hamletesque, there's a "terrible beauty" in it. GRRM would do exactly that, ala Tyrion & Shae. People get so mad that Jaime didn't end up as a #GoodGuy and live happily ever after with Brienne (cause all character arcs must be simplified, linear cliches and duality is incomprehensible), overlook the fact that Jaime's entire arc isn't about becoming a 'good guy', it's about duty. It's him redeeming his "kingslayer" legacy by becoming the "queen protector". Jaime's character was always the tragic hero, he was gonna die a tragic hero. Jon was always a free-folk at heart, he entire arc was about becoming the King Beyond the Wall, not the Iron Throne. Just cause you waited 10 years to have him sit on the throne doesn't mean it HAD to happen. Nowhere did I pick up GRRM guaranteeing between the lines that a fuckin Targeryan HAD to end up on the throne. If anything he would do the exact opposite of the obvious & predictable, because everything he wrote is "hope killing" subversive shit. Arya always the adventurer, And Sansa, forever the underdog, the pushover, who always imitated(down to her clothes) the people she admired, surprise...surprise...was the one who ended up learning enough from all the best minds to come out as the winner. Also GRRM wanted Bran to be the king. The books started with Bran, the first chapter, it had to end with Bran. That textbook GRRM symbolism: the storyteller as the winner. This was a show about the Starks, the Starks were gonna win, not Dany. And yes, I'm so glad they didn't go with some heroic Disney revenge-fantasy Avengers Assemble fanservice shit of Arya wearing Jamie's mask to kill Cersei (yuck) and other cringe reddit theory tropey nonsense (like Dany dying in childbirth). If Jaime is really 'a changed man', what sense does it make for him to kill his sister at her weakest moment, while he believed she was pregnant? I get awed at the stupidity of fans who see Jaime walking towards Cersei & think "oh he's gonna kill her now"(cause they need to do fanservice so I can CHEER....even though the writers are obviously going for a tragedy where you don't get that YEAAAAH moment). Yes the Valonqor happened, Cersei did die staring at Jaime's eyes, just not the way people expected. It's brilliant. This was the best death for Cersei, the most complex character of the whole show. Not the #BadGuy begging and pleading for her life to the #GoodGuy on some cringe Disney fanservice, but she died crushed by the weight of her own empire, her own dynasty, a dynasty which Tywin said was to last a thousand years. It's a fitting end for a Joan of Arc type character, a fitting end for an unbowed Queen. Very symbolic, very much like a McaBeth. The real mistake the show made was that it got too big to pull off an unfulfilling, poignant tragedy whose main asset is a dark, twisted thematic & visual grandeur, when people just want those "YEAAAAH" moments. It's like reading Shakespeare to your dog.
Sidenote : my favorite gag of 8x5 was some reactor yelling "the Northerners will never do that, they're honorable". LOL WUT? Ramsay? Roose? Brienne's "three quick deaths"? Maybe they just started watching from that 'Dragon Queen meets the Bastard' episode. But yeah GRRM specialized in mocking santizied wars between 'good & evil', & the concept of #GoodGuys being pure, unbridled, heroic flowers. One of the first things a naive Sansa realizes in the first book is that the fabled Kinghts of Kings Landing whose heroic deeds she grew up reading in poems....were not actually heroes at all.

The problem with Sam's proposal was that lords and ladies had to decide about it, and these lord and ladies would have lost a lot of power.

I agree with everyone when they say this season was rushed and there should've been more episodes to button things up more cleanly, but let's be honest -- there's no ending that would've satisfied everyone. People need to accept this. And the books might take different paths, but I thnk D&D and George RR Martin had discussed certain things that were gonna be key points in both the books and the show -- Jon Snow being brought back from the dead, why Hodor can only say his name, and this ending. So who knows...

Bran is the perfect candidate for king. He is all-knowing, he's seen the mistakes and successes of past rulers, he's seen who is truly innocent or guilty of a crime, and he doesn't have desires like a tyrant does. Jon is a good man and the true heir, but him being king wouldn't change the current system they have in place. They're breaking the wheel by electing someone fit to rule rather than having a claim. Joffrey was a psycho, Tommen was a pushover, Cersei was a tyrant, and Daenarys destroyed the capital killing thousands of people for the throne. The system they had in place was clearly flawed.

Actually the 'incoming' Monarch could have 'pardoned' Jon the way Robert Baratheon 'pardoned' Jaime for killing HIS King and even let him keep his position. The thing with Jon was more that they really could not have defeated the Unsullied and the Dothracki, they needed them to leave and what they did was the only thing that satisfied Greyworm. But they sent him knowing the Night's Watch didn't actually exist anymore, my problem he lived all his life without a name and when he finally got one, he couldn't claim it. He ended up as he started out... a bastard.

I wonder if Jon talked to Tyrion the way he did in case he was overheard. Dragons are connected to their riders as the Starks are to their direwolves. Jon was the Prince Who Was Promised. His parentage was important because he could get past Drogon to kill the real bringer of darkness, Dany. Jon’s story was to be the Prince, he was never destined to be king. Bran doesn’t see the future, he’s like a Zen Buddhist, accepting that all that happens. I think they duped the Unsullied into thinking Jon was a prisoner. But they really set him free to be with the Wildlings. The hole in the wall was at East Watch, not at Castle Black.
