    Well, I thought it was a great ending. All my favourite characters (Bronn, Tormund, Arya, Jon and Davos) lived. Bronn got what he always wanted, power and money. Tormund got what he wanted, a home safe from the Night King. Arya got to be the grand adventurer she always wanted to be as a child. Jon found a home among people who accepted him, where he'll be loved and Davos went from a smuggler to lord of ships.
    Jon leader of the true north. Sansa queen of the north, Bran king of the six kingdoms and Arya master explorer. The Starks rule from top to bottom. I'm a happy fan.

I cried twice during this finale, first when Dany died and I saw Drogon in pain and how he melted the throne because it was the throne that led to her death not Jon. Also when Sansa became the Queen of The North, Arya travelling and Jon being happy with Ghost. Seeing them all so fulfilled brought me to tears.

      @@chca5862 Yup, that system of governance does not end anything. Bran has no armies and no actual power. He is term limited. When the Ironborn rebel or raid, what can Bran do? When Bronn inevitably tries to take over Riverrun because Edmure is a bitch, what can Bran do? When Dorne decides to not pay taxes, what can Bran do? The lords of Westeros are not going to stop scheming because there is an omniscient cripple (who most of them had never met) sitting on the throne.
      Even worse, they created a system where any Lord can be elevated to King by playing the game of thrones well. Westeros could become even more political as players attempt to be the next person chosen for the throne. They just created possibly the worst system of governance imaginable for Westeros. They made a bigger and worse wheel than what they started out with. Guarantees civil wars for generations to come.

      @RickyRicardo135 5 років тому +2

      This was a great ending to her character. I can't believe the fans couldn't see that her story was gonna end this way. The clues were all there since season 1. She basically became Hitler, believing that she was gonna be the savior of the realm by murdering everybody who opposed her rule. All in the name of the liberation of the people. She had the right intentions, but couldn't think rationally by believing fire and blood was the only way to do it. She had to die. It was a sad but bittersweet ending to her character.

    • @DerLetzteMonarch
      @DerLetzteMonarch 5 років тому +1

      @@RickyRicardo135 My god, people need to stop with the bloody Hitler comparisons. You said it yourself, Dany had the right intentions. Would you say that about Hitler? Really? Was his death in any way shape or form sad? Was it bittersweet? Hitler wanted to conquer the world for power alone. And he did so by using fear and hatred towards all that was different in the world as his tool to manipulate people. Dany never manipulated anyone intentionally. She didn't want to conquer the entire world until she had already destroyed King's Landing and even then, her motivation wasn't power but the end of all tyrants. Dany is pretty much the epitome of a tragic fallen hero, who "lived long enough to see herself become the villain". All in all her character arc, spanning all eight seasons, is incredibly beautiful in the most macabre and tragic of ways. How anyone could waste a second even trying to equate her to an actual full-on monster and master manipulator like Hitler, I do not understand.
      I am sorry for this rant and I don't think that sentence of yours was actually meant to be taken this serious but to me, as someone who has grown up learning in great depth how big of a monster Hitler truly was and also quite appreciates a well written fallen hero storyline, this comparison is an incredible annoyance.

  •  5 років тому +12

    *This is my opinion about the end of Game of Thrones (I'm sorry, my english is bad, but, I hope you understand me):*
    *I liked the end of Game of Thrones, I'm not disappointed; very good things happened, like the reunion between Jon and Ghost, the total claim of Tyrion, in addition Bran will be the best king that has had Westeros in his history, he is a righteous man, with nothing of badness in his heart, like her sister Sansa, she has suffered a lot, but now she is the queen in the north; and Arya, the most warrior of all and the savior of Westeros to have finished the Long Night and killed The Night King. The great Ned Stark and the great Catelyn Tully would be proud of their children, as would Robb and Rickon what they would make of their brothers.*
    *I loved Daenerys, but I think we all knew that she should die, I also remember that image when she entered the House of the Undying in the season 2 episode 10, and she had a vision inside the Red Keep, she see to the Iron Throne and before she could touch it, the screams of her little dragons interrupted her, and that was a clear signal that she would never sit on the Iron Throne.*
    *As we all know, the Lord of the Light has resurrected Beric Dondarrion several times because his destiny was to protect Arya, and Arya would be in charge of ending the Long Night eliminating the Night King; and now, in this ending, we learned why the Lord of Light resurrected Jon Snow, and resurrected him because Jon had the purpose of saving Westeros from the Targaryen' tyranny with Daenerys, a queen who would rule with fire and blood, and that was going to destroy all those who did not kneel before her, who was going to destroy more cities, and no doubt will destroy especially Winterfell where Sansa lives. Neither with the Night King nor with Daenerys could there have been peace in Westeros.*
    *That was the purpose of the Lord of Light: to bring peace to Westeros, the peace that could not be possible if the Night King or Daenerys had ruled.*
    *Jon ended up like maestre Aemon Targaryen, another Targaryen who never wanted the Iron throne and ended up in the north, in the Night's Watch.*
    *Besides that, remember what Arya said to Lady Crane in episode 8 of season 6, when Arya asked Lady who was west of Westeros, Lady told her: "I don't know, the edge of the world, maybe", and Arya immediately told her: "I'd like to see it", and that's how it was Arya left for west of Westeros where no one knows what's out there.*
    *Everything has been fulfilled.*
    *Conclusion: Game of Thrones is the best series I've seen in my life, it was a series that made me cry, laugh, anger, feel nervous, feel afraid, but above all, it was a series that made me very happy.*
    *Thanks for reading me.*

He could've stopped it, or atleast try to stop it. I know D&D probably haven't even considered that and that they'll say some bullshit like "Bran didn't know" to justify their bullshit, like they did with "Dany kind of forgot about the Iron Fleet", but the fact of the matter is that they're shit writers and that they ruined this season.
      EDIT: Okay, I'll be honest, they're not shit. They wrote season 6 without Martin as well, and I thought that season was brilliant. They have just gotten extremely lazy and simply don't care anymore.

    I liked the ending. I believe the ending GRR Martin’s books. It’s just too bad they couldn’t take longer to develop the story. I believe Jon’s Snow’s purpose was to kill Danaerys. The Long Night wasn’t just about White Walkers, it was about defeating evil. Jon was the Prince Who Was Promised. He was the only one who could make it past Drogon to kill Dany. The prophecy didn’t call him the eventual king, he fulfilled his duty.

    D﹠D have said since 2014 they wanted (& semi-planned) to do only 7 seasons.
    Obviously their plans got changed. GRRM has criticized HBO for making D﹠D give air time to unimportant characters just because of their Q-rating. People who want to blame only D﹠D need to read more than just the headlines in order to form their opinions.

      I do blame them. GRRM wanted more seasons because he thought 2 seasons wasn't enough to tell the story he wanted to be told, and he was right. It felt forced, rushed and out of place. That's on D&D

    I kind of agree with you Torchwood. I haven't been too happy with how rushed this season has been and the writing has been lack-luster. But at the same time, there were still some really great moments this season and I also felt like this finale was just about as good as they could have done it, given the corner they had painted themselves into.
    It was, as you said, just about as satisfying as it could have been. It was by no means perfect. I wouldn't even say it was great. It was good enough. Which is sad, because this show started with a lot of promise. But I just feel like, as the years went on, Dave Benioff and D. B. Weiss just seemed to lose more and more interest in running this show. Maybe it was fatigue. Maybe the criticisms got to them. Maybe they just aren't very good writers and producers. I don't know. Maybe it's a combination of all of that. But whatever the reason, I'm glad they ended it. I probably would have stopped watching it after this season if it weren't already ending, much like I quit watching Walking Dead after about season 5 or 6 when I felt the writing was falling apart.

    My thoughts on the last GoT episode:
    Daenerys: being killed (by Jon) was absolutely predictable but I always hoped and looked forward to have her getting another end
    Basically as she touched the throne her fate was doomed (good portraied by the music), she also could've stepped back but it was her hole life goal since her marriage to Drogo and her first taste of power
    Drogo flying her to ???: Most likely to Valyria, the home of her ancestors (and also pretty dramatic, because it's also doomed) OR back to the Dothraki Sea, where Drogon was born OR to Pentos (the house with the red door, the closest place for Daenerys to call a home - book only)
    Bran being king: … unexpected for me. I guessed all the Kingdoms become seperated again, but no, only the North got the chop.. The North is almost as big as the other 6 Kingdoms together, hopefully there won't be much rivallery after the death of Bran the Broken and Sansa the Redhead, First of their Names xD
    (Note: I like Sansa as her character (especially becoming more like Cersei in her methods, but in a better way), but I don't like her as Queen)
    Arya sailing west: … hopefully she won't suffer the same fate as Alyssa Farman
    The Unsullied sailing to Naath: They'll all die 'cause of the disease on this islands, which killed many invaders except the people born in Naath (because of toxic butterflies and the people's immunity)
    Jon's Ending: I really don't know how to think about that, but now there will be no more Targaryen-Offsprings, so I am really sad and disappointed
    The Song of Ice and Fire completely ended in their world with the death of the White Walkers and the Dragons
    But maaaaybe only temporary, White Walkers came again as had the dragons
    And Illyrio's wife was maybe a female Blackfyre, so there could be more Targaryen / Dragonrider blood somewhere..
    sorry for bad spelling or grammar mistakes, English is not my common tongue :)

    Did not mind this episode. Like most things this season I dont inherently mind the concepts and stories, just the rushed and therefore more hollow nature of them. I say this as someone who had genuinely enjoyed season 6 and 7. 8 simply felt like it brushed past too much. I get they wanted to keep plot momentum for the final stretch and it could not be like the first 5 seasons in terms of pacing. but with this season I dont think the balance they struck between plot momentum and the more important aspect of character depth and drama was entirely successful. a lot of the time character beats were either rushed through or dithered about, and in this episode in particular a lot of the writing felt like it was geared towards getting plot points established rather than telling the story through the characters. Despite this, I actually liked this better than the last couple. despite still evident flaws in the writing in terms of character drama, there was more emotional and touching moments in this episode than the last few combined i felt. I do not think this final season was a complete failure as many fans seem to now regard it, but it was a disappointment, with many a character arc rendered if not entirely unsuccessful, at the very least distinctly less fleshed out than it should have been. Again, I dont disagree with most of the decisions based on what they inherently are (apart from jaimes death and king bran), just in their execution which didnt render these things entirely awful or anything just less effective than they should have been: Things I still felt more mostly all in character technically, I think, but the focus on forward momentum of plot made it all seem just a touch more hollow than it should have been.

    Honestly I can’t exactly blame these Lords for laughing off Sam’s idea of the common people choosing their leader. In this series, the smallfolk don’t have the proper intellect to make the rational decision of electing their ruler. Like Olenna Tyrell once said, they’re like children who will follow anyone and are swayed easily. They lack an education on how the world works, which may be something that can be resolved eventually with Bran and Tyrion in charge. They could bring about an educational reform which will result in the people making proper choices in the future. But right now, too soon for a democracy

  • @NycLavoisier
    @NycLavoisier 5 років тому +1

    Drogon did make me sad but he definitely was smart to realize it was really the throne to blame.
    oh Edmure Tully... it was so weird seeing him after seeing him in Outlander but i loved Sansa telling him to sit lol
    Bran is actually a good choice. I mean he sees the future and the past so he knows what he should and shouldnt do. He's not motivated by power cause it doesnt interest him. He's there for the people, someone Varys would have backed 100%. So instead of "breaking the wheel" as Daenerys wanted, it took a literal turn as the boy with the wheels took charge.
    I went into the finale knowing the show is never predictable and i was honestly pleasantly surprised and enjoyed it. Not the best finale ever but i didnt hate it either.

    If Drogon was the smartest character in the show, couldn't he, you know, NOT have burned all those innocent people to ashes? Up to the last moment he was a faithful, ferocious, fire-breathing supporter of Dany's thirst for power, so the change of heart just feels like a cop-put to spare Jon's life. The throne melting is aesthetically beautiful, the symbolism is great, but the dragon's sudden understanding of metaphors kinda breaks the fourth wall for me.
