On December 18th, Ruby Franke accepted a plea deal and pleaded guilty to 4 out of 6 child abuse charges against her. Ruby's attorney made a statement accusing Jodi Hildebrandt of being the mastermind behind the abuse, and Ruby agreed as part of her deal to testify against Jodi if she goes to trial. Jodi’s next court date is December 27, 2023.
The jail call that led to Donna Adelson's arrest has been released. The conversation with Charlie Adelson took place shortly after his conviction. Despite jail calls being recorded, Donna discusses her possible plans to end her life, flee the USA, make sure her children are financially taken care of, and read aloud her text exchanges with Wendi.

What bothers me in all of this is that Ruby Franke was terrible to her children way bedore Jodi came along.

As much as it sucks that she is getting a plea deal, the silver lining is that the kids won't have to go through a trial for her. Honestly, I am hoping Jodi takes one too so that they can avoid needing to testify at all.

Yall, stop perpetuating this. Jodi has been around behind the scenes for a minimum of 5 years. Shari said on a podcast that that her family joined connections when she was 14 or 15. She’s 20 now.

Ruby stares straight into the camera before pleading guilty. To me, that monologue she makes at the end isn't a sign of true remorse. It's a woman making a UA-cam apology for her viewers.

Totally agree and it's chilling. That look takes this from "garden variety" heinous child abuse to flat out dystopian horror film levels.
No matter what that lady did people will still complain. Your comment would have been different if she didn’t even try to at least apologize. The lady needs to pay for her crimes, and she will most likely not see her kids in a very long time, I just don’t get comments like this one. Are you a professional in face reading?
My God, she practically giftwrapped this call to the prosecution! Not only did she tell them what her plans were, but also where to find a goldmine of incriminating evidence against her. Just unbelievable, especially after she had to hear a clear warning about being recorded, AND the person she was on the phone for wasn't even on the call anymore!

Do you really think Wendi is involved in this whole murder for hire/execution? I think the recorded phone call paints Wendi in a more positive light of not having had anything to do with it. I haven't heard enough evidence one way or another to make up my mind. I guess you could say I'm on the fence with her. I'd like to hear your take if you believe she's guilty, as I've not watched a whole lot on this case. It happened after I left the US for England, so I missed it all when it happened and when the hitmen were tried. It's only come up on my radar in the last 6 months or so.

She didn't say under her breath "I didn't say she was", she said "yes you were". Go back and listen to it again. She's implicated Wendi with that statement.
@Julia-uh4li my money is that Wendi is gonna be the last one the prosecution goes after. This case has been going from the least involved to the most involved. First they got Sigfredo and Luis. Then Katherine. Then Charli. Donna was probably gonna be a little later, but she tried to flee, so now she's next. I kinda love the idea of the walls slowly closing in on Wendi and the DA leaving her for last. It's what she absolutely deserves, because IMHO, she was the one putting a bug in Charli and Donna's ears about how terrible Dan was. And I bet, since Wendi is an attorney, the DA will make sure everything is done nice and neat and in a way she won't see coming.

Franke was doing questionable things with her children long before Hildebrand ever came on the scene. Franke took her eldest sons bed away for 6 months or so and forced him to sleep in a beanbag, she also refused to bring lunch to school after her 6 year old forget it and at neither of those times was Hildebrand around.
Actually, I think Jodi was the therapist recommending the wilderness camp for Chad and also recommending those punishments.

While the events you refer to are questionable, they are not 2nd degree felonies. I’ve listened to other Jodi stories and those stories are horrific. What would have happened if that little boy did not escape. Scary. I think Jodi’s behavior is truly warped.

As someone who has spoken with someone who is in prison, I can say that you are VERY aware of how not private calls are.
I agree this is ALL about her. IMO she isn’t doing this to save them from testifying, but so she can avoid ALL the horrid details being shared to the world.
I totally agree, and this plea deal gives Franke the opportunity to not reveal ALL the abuse, not just what all she admitted to!
I think she should have had to read her whole plea deal out loud in front of her children, extended family, the court, and the public. Maybe even answered questions.
I care about shielding the traumatized children from further humiliation by their mother admitting details of abuse in open court.
If we think it will punish the mother to do so, I must disagree. She appears to have some SERIOUS Mental Pathology to have allowed this abuse to happen in the first place.
Her plea deal was standard for any crime; admit to SOME charges, have SOME charges dropped and do less prison time. It had NOTHING to do with her feeling true, sincere REMORSE!

She is still in control of the narrative to some degree. I saw zero remorse or even genuine emotion in her pathetic attempt to garner sympathy and compassion. She just wants to get off. It doesn’t seem like she truly grasps the reality of any of this. Lights are on but no one’s home vibes.
Being an attorney, Wendy is being very careful about what she puts in texts to her mother. I completely believe that Wendy was a part of the death, but was protected by Donna. You can tell by the way Donna acted in court that she's used to being the one in charge and how intimidating she can be. I hope they both end up throwing each other under the bus. Thank you for covering both of these trials.

It's weirdly satisfying to watch karma catch up with her and the meltdown.
Ironic how she took away Christmas from one of her kids to teach them a lesson in one of her videos and she gets to sit in a cell this year for it.

The Franke case hits hard for me. I see my own mother in her so much. Trust me when I say that years of therapy doesn't make the equation of she loved me but she hurt me and let someone else hurt me any easier. God I hope those kids get therapy young.
Bell Hooks’ book All About Love helps reframe love in a way that can be helpful (imo) grappling with these types of things as an adult trying to heal
The abuse that SHE put her children thru that's detailed in her plea agreement are absolutely horrific. I was in tears listening to everything she admitted. Just imagine what she DIDN'T admit. Jodi might have added fuel to the fire, but Ruby was already an established abuser. She "gets off" on the control and power trip. She's sooo sorry now that she's been caught. She wasn't thinking about prison time when she made her children work outside for days on end with no shoes and no water. I live in Oklahoma and the summer heat here is unbearable, I CAN'T EVEN IMAGINE THE CONDITIONS THOSE CHILDREN HAD TO ENDURE IN THE FREAKING DESERT IN UTAH 🤬🤬 "sloughing skin" REALLY??? UGH, I am a firm believer that abusers should have to go through she exact same things they inflicted on their victims. SO I'M 100% ROOTING FOR THAT IN THIS CASE!!!

She probably did go through the exact same things and more than what she put her children through when she was growing up. I’m not making excuses for her but child abuse is often learned behavior with some mental illness mixed in.

My husband used to work for Securus, and you would be SHOCKED how many people would get on a call that they were told would be recorded and talk about where bodies were buried or where loot was hidden. It's amazing.

I think ruby did harm to her children but I do believe Jodi took it to the worst level of abuse. I’ve listened to Scientology Stories, Mormon Story podcasts and understand that these extreme religion/cult mentality really is something else I cannot relate to. Jodi’s niece talks of these horrors on the Mormon Stories UA-cam channel. Excellent interview.The story is frightening and eerily reminiscent of what Rubi’s kids endured. These calls are before she was arrested. I was hopeful they were calls after with Harvey or whomever. Charlie and Donna are not allowed to have any direct contact, only through the lawyers
I think its _wild_ that when Donna thought _maybe_ her phone was tapped she was all "the condor flies at midnight", but when the call starts with THIS IS BEING RECORDED shes just casually dropping the time, date and location of her attempt to flee the country.

Her taking deep breaths before saying guilty is such a show. I'm sure she'll go on an apology Tour and point how much that hurt her to say. The saddest part is what these kids are going to go through. Who knows how far reaching that trauma is.
I hope that the children are able to get past all of the damage done to them. I know from personal experience that they have a long and difficult road ahead of them. Their Mother can rot in prison. No sentence will ever be enough for what she has done. Just why personal view.

The Ruby Franke case and stumbling across abuse allegations from Paris Hilton about Provo Boarding School and wondering about their connection to Mormonism led me on a deep drive trying to understand what was behind the possible connection between that religion and very similar examples of child abuse allegations. I found some forums and info on domestic abuse which seems to be prevent and the issue is it's more hushed up or wives told to deal with it or they should repent and try harder and don't divorce cuz how does that look to the community and how the religious leaders the ppl go to for help are volunteers and have very little training with counseling, abuse, etc. The eternal family aspect makes me wonder if the temporary discomfort (abuse) of children on this world doesn't matter if it means the kids will be holy enough to ascend to the eternal family or whatever.
Thanks for sharing your take on Donna's outburst re Wendi's distance. It's great to hear the prosecutor's recognition of a possible theme -- can't wait to hear actual opening statement with yr take in mind!
The whole Markel case is beyond the pale! Dan died all because the Adelson’s wanted their own way… but worse, believed their behavior and desires were more important than his rights as a father to Benjamin and Lincoln. I love hearing these jail calls because it shows how much Donna believes that she is above everything. If anyone is going to sink this battle scarred ship it is going to be Donna and her mouth. Whether by phone conversations, text messages, emails, or even face to face conversations she’s had with others that the state is able to get. And I’m going to enjoy watching every second of the Adelson demise in court.

I was wondering the same thing ... my theory is she was living a unhealthy lifestyle out of prison drinking and doing drugs etc and now that she's in prison she's sobered up and got more sleep and that helped her hair
Maybe she has naturally curly hair. I myself can put my hair up in a ponytail after washing it and when I take it down it’s curly just like Ruby’s
If you braid your hair at night then unbraid in morning it looks like this. I would braid my daughters hair and it would do this. When i was a kid my mom would do this as well. It was all the rage in the 80's!😁

Tables are starting to turn on Wendi. Donna’s golden child is now a convicted murderer. Wendi is dating a wealthy guy and living her best life…. This will not stand in Donna’s eyes… if Donna is convicted, Charlie will implicate Wendi and try to work something out for his mom. The level of toxicity is one for the psychological books.
