As a business owner myself (not sports cards) who has been selling on eBay and Amazon full time since 2015….the biggest hurdle in the beginning is getting enough inventory and getting it listed. You’re just not going to sell a whole lot of anything until you’ve got tons of stuff available for people to buy. I’ve been looking into getting into sports cards selling lately and what I’m seeing is that most sellers doing really well (30-50 sales per day or more) have well over 50,000 listings.
Luckily I made friends with someone who had quarter of a million cards and gave me quite a bit and later I bought some from him too. I’m trying to build mine up now, while also having my own personal collection. What do you sell if you don’t mind me asking?
1500 sales on 50,000 listing's is a3% sell through rate. You're not doing things right unless you get to 20-30% sell through rate. Sitting on a lot of inventory doesn't make a lot of sense unless you got. Your inventory for pennies on the dollar
Bin shop and always get 10 or more. Leaves you room to negotiate and do it honestly. Bought 10, had 35 of value, asked for 30 and they said yes. 5 bucks is big when margins are thin. That's 14 percent.
Very good overview. For me, I think another good piece of advice for someone starting out is to be very focused. Don't try to buy all sports - because you'll make mistakes. Like for myself, I only do baseball so I'm familiar with who is hot and what I can sell things for. I dabbled in NFL a bit and lost money because I wasn't as familiar with it.
This was very good bro! I bought a 1000 cards from an auction like 2 years ago threw them into my garage and forgot about them. I ran into one of your videos and whipped them out! Most of them are foreign to me as I don’t watch sports but the few I was able to recognize are 2 Jeter rookies and a ton of holo and cards from 94. I love arbitrage of other items and this has sparked a light in me to scavenge! Lol incase anyone wonders I paid $70 as the winning bidder. Thank you for the info my dude, my type of people the ones that share info and aren’t selfish. I’ll Be supporting your content for as long as you make it brother.

I am in China. My english is not good.I watch your video by translator.I learn a lot.I have been buying and selling cards from China to Japan for about 7 months now.I made some money before, but now I make less and less. It is becoming increasingly difficult to choose cards, and many cards cannot be sold at high prices. Now that I have learned a lot from your videos, I decided to give your ideas a try. Thank you for sharing.
It’s such a process when checking prices and then grading isn’t quick either unless you’re paying premium prices. Then on top of it all selling on EBay has a selling limit until you start to generate positive feedback.
so im not really looking for investment. but i do have cards from 1930s. they have been in my book for years. im looking into where do i need to go to look at price. just a randoms search or specific sights
Good, practical advice. It's always best, to start micro, and then build up later on a more macro level whenever you feel comfortable, and have more of a safe and secure blanket to spend on mid level and/or higher end cards.
From collector to collector , how does one come up with the value of their card in oder to make a fair deal? Is it based on the last sale of a comp or do you simply make an average of the last 5 sales of comps?
I usually go off the max sale and lowest sale then make the value of the median. Like if a cards max sale was $200 and the lowest was $100 I would say the proper value is $150.
Figure what you’d like and expect lower in my honest opinion. I started selling collecting playing and trading Pokémon and magic but have recently started collecting sports for personal collections. But damn those collections get expensive. I just pulled a davante Adams downtown and I’m under 30 packs ripped. I looked at eBay. Every auction is finishing at 100-150. Buy it now’s at 175 crossed out for best offer sales. Threw mine up at 175 with offers of 135 or higher. Within an hour someone bought it for 175. I like to throw extras in so I asked the guy if he was a raiders fan. He said he just likes downtowns. Now I’m not a pro but if a cards hype starts at 175 and that sounds nice but a month later they’re going between 100-150 throw your 175. Hope for the best expect the worst and prepare to meet in the middle. Once again. Not a pro and don’t deal with a lot of high end stuff just unloading what I don’t need in my collection but sometimes there is just somebody out there at the right time willing to buy your stuff for what you want out of it
Another good thing if you can get cheap is game used patches. Not the ones from last few years that aren’t actually game used but older cards usually are. If there’s more than 1 color on patch they sell nicely
I used to collect trading cards 30 years ago, just got back into it. I bought a pack of WWE Chronicles for $24 and sold ungraded on eBay for $65. I bought a couple Panini prisms as well and the return on those is probably 10 to 20% like you said.I heard soccer has pretty high return as well, but Basketball seems to be all about Victor Wembanyama and no one else lol
Im trying to start selling some old baseball cards i found and was wondering how you determine how much you want to sell them for. I dont have the money to send them on for grading so im not sure how to figure that out.
Totally agree with not buying boxes or packs to be profitable but 10% return sounds low. I've been selectively buying packs and boxes of sets that are in high demand and I've already made back almost 20% of my money back with about 10k cards left to try and sell. I've built sets as well from opening packs which will put in a nice chunk of return. Fyi this is just fun for me not taking it seriously..
I've decided to sell my sports cards locked away in a storage unit. I don't even know how to display, what I would need or where I would start. I just plan on selling at one sports show, maybe two or three. I'm not a hobbyist, I just want to make a little to get me thru the year. I sort of have ideas but would appreciate advice from an expert. Bro, this beginner just popped out of the womb! Thanks.
N ice video. Thanks for telling people exactly how it is. I collected for years in the early 2000's and I learned all this by example. It didn't take me long before I became a good trader. Online trading clubs was also a good way to find good deals as well as meat good people that would ll help you find cards you collect or want to invest in. 🎉
Probably not. While grading can increase a card's value, the cost of grading will probably average 10 to 20 times the cost of the card in the value bin. There likely won't be much - if any - meat on the bone after that. There is the possibility of more profit margin in finding a raw card in a value bin and flipping it on eBay.
Thank the video helped alot as I am from nz and the only card show near me this year is next Sunday but as I am from nz the dollar boxes probably aren't such a good thing as people probably won't want to buy a card for 5 dollars say and pay like 15 shipping
Your videos are great! I'm watching them over and over again, because I want to get started on ebay with a small card shop, so really appreciate the advice! Keep rockin'!
How does one come up with a price when its a population 1 with a PSA grade of 10? Im talking about a top prospect in baseball that people are obviously paying attention to? Ill throw out some names for instance Cristhian Vaquero, Coby Mayo, PCA and so on.
Im having the same issue with a card.. a dynamic duo joe burrow Jamar chase patch card .. its /25... The ones I find are mared to a different numbers tho.. the one I found marked to 25 went for 400$
I have a bunch of older cards that I got when I was I was younger (I’m 17 now) how would I be able to find the value for the cards I have since there not being sold by anyone anymore?
Great video, thanks. Just wondering if you could advise what cards to go for? I'm seeing prizm, panini and tops which I heard of a lot growing up. Not really sure where to start? Thanks
I’m just trying to sell my cards I collect through the 80’s. I have a donruss ken Griffey Jr rookie card and an upper deck Sammy Sosa rookie card. I have a ton of cards and I thought I could sell them if possible but have no idea how to go about that. Is there any way you could tell me where I should start first?
I have 4 shoeboxes full of sports cards, and have no idea how to figure out which are valuable. Can anyone point me towards a recourse that could make the job easier? I don't want to just hand these off at a trading store, because why would they tell me if I had a card that was worth thousands?
I recently came into a huge collection of vintage sports cards. I scanned everything into and app and it’s sitting at 7k. Should I just post everything to eBay or would it be wiser to see it at a lot and let someone else grade it and part it out

Plus in long island all uonby shops are out of business and one thing is looking for a wholesaler not ebay by 2 boxes for a 2$ lrss price range. If I sold my cards I have I would just break it even or a little more.

Those cards are from an infamous era of card collecting named "The Junk Wax Era". Cards from this era were mass produced, eliminating rarity and driving down the price of all cards. There are some people who will take these cards because they're trying to complete sets or some other things like that. I recommend selling them as a lot and moving on from them.

eBay

I opened 1 box and pulled back stroud rookie hero paid 28 for the box sold the card for 110 so you can definitely work from boxes
I have tool boxes full of vintage cards. What do I need to do. I bought out a building and it was packed with old cards.
I’ve been buying cards since the 80’s and now I want to start selling them different sports and tcg
Just got a box of like 1000 of 90’s and early 2000’s baseball cards from one of my older coworkers… I’m hoping there’s some gems in there
What if you go to bins and boxes and grade them would that be a good idea?
Probably not.
While grading can increase a card's value, the cost of grading will probably average 10 to 20 times the cost of the card in the value bin.
There likely won't be much - if any - meat on the bone after that.
There is the possibility of more profit margin in finding a raw card in a value bin and flipping it on eBay.

True, might be a little tougher outside the US but I've seen a lot of times stuff will resell higher in your own country

Great video, thanks. Just wondering if you could advise what cards to go for? I'm seeing prizm, panini and tops which I heard of a lot growing up. Not really sure where to start? Thanks

Thanks bro that help for people who have rarest cards 👍
Your a real friend in this ! Thank you
I was wondering why there are ‘rare’ cards on Amazon and other places for nearly $1, but some people sell them for thousands.
Shhhhhhh,,,,,,someone has to open the boxes ❤
Maybe if people figure out it's not worth it and stop buying, companies will start making decent products at a good price again.
It's a fair point. But if people stop buying boxes the card manufacturers will adjust accordingly. They won't be denied in bringing cards to market.
I’m just trying to sell my cards I collect through the 80’s. I have a donruss ken Griffey Jr rookie card and an upper deck Sammy Sosa rookie card. The market is saturated with cards from the 1980s and they're not worth much, if anything. I recommend selling the lot in bulk.
How do you make profit if you are selling a card online for say market value of $2 when you need to pay for the shipping cost ect
You can set it so the buyer pays shipping.
Do you have a video on PSA grader groups people who will send in the cards for other people?
Such a nice person and a wonderful video. Thanks a lot!
Thanks for the update. I watched the last one you did that was mentioned early in the video. It helped a lot. Keep it coming!
Awesome! Glad I could help
I have 4 shoeboxes full of sports cards, and have no idea how to figure out which are valuable. Can anyone point me towards a recourse that could make the job easier? I don't want to just hand these off at a trading store, because why would they tell me if I had a card that was worth thousands?
😂
I'm in the same boat brother
I need help figuring out the ebay side of selling cheaper cards.
What website did you use to find the stock prices for the cards charted out like the stock market? I can't find that on veriswap anywhere.
Card Ladder, it's a paid service though
app.cardladder.com/signup?via=troy
I have thousands of cards that I'm trying to get rid of got any suggestions?
What do you think about older cards like 1980 or so?
The market is saturated with them because they were mass produced. I recommend selling them as a bulk lot or simply recycling them.
I recently came into a huge collection of vintage sports cards. I scanned everything into and app and it’s sitting at 7k. Should I just post everything to eBay or would it be wiser to see it at a lot and let someone else grade it and part it out
What app did you use?
Anywhere between 175 and 400
What brand pack should I buy
His advice - which I agree with - is to not buy packs. Opening packs is gambling and you're more likely to lose money than make money.
Im really new at this...Are the cards at Card Shows PSA Graded?
There is definitely a high volume of graded cards at card shows but plenty of raw (ungraded) cards, too.
And the graded cards are a mix of grades from different grading companies. PSA is probably the most popular.
do you promote your cards on ebay?
