So far best sold has been 1999-00 Flair Showcase VINCE CARTER Convinceing that got for .75 (bulk buying at card show) it gemmed up and recently sold it for $160. I have a handful of other bigger cards that were $1 and gemmed and just waiting for a buyer. Fun video also enjoy a PSA reveal.

Per card prices were: grading $15.99, Shipping to PSA $12.30, shipping back & insurance $2.99, altogether added $4.23 to the 15.99 starting price. TOTAL COST PER CARD $20.22. That's with a huge 3$ off discount- keep in mind.
Hey man, love your content. I feel like you're one of the few "influencer" that actually do something realistic. Not just buying the most expensive or hyped cards on the market for a quick pump and dump: rinse and repeat how some of these "hobby influencers" are doing. Can you make an in-depth video on what youre looking for when submitting for grading? Like what kind of flaws are you looking at that is acceptable and what isnt. Like i see this video and its kinda crazy that therr was a lot of low numbers. Thanks in advance pare!
Well said, thats why I love videos like this. I used to watch Roth and others but these guys just drop 10-20k at shows and it's hard to relate (not knocking them at all btw) -- I just like watching stuff I can relate to.
This is exactly what I do. A ton of collectors online find it profitable to only do this for cards that are worth in the thousands. But for me, this is the way to go. I live in dollar bins. Only difference is that if they are not perfect, I do not send them. Could you imagine your profit if you really checked all your cards and sent in only those that were 10s. You'd make a ton of money. But that takes a lot of time.
Not $16 a card when you have to pay to ship them there & pay for return shipping. My current 39 card order i sent in cost me $54 to ship it there and $58 for psa return shipping costs. So a total of another $112 in shipping both ways on 39 cards for me, an extra $3 a card. Even if you are sending in cheap cards their return shipping on bigger orders isnt cheap.
@@jonsboxbreaks Sorry been doing this a LONG time. I am not trusting anyone but myself with my cards and shipping my cards. My last order of 39 cards has a raw value of over $7000. No way anyone should trust anyone but themselves with that.
My best $1 card into PSA was a Brian Wilson UD Rookie I found in a dollar bin in Minnesota. Came back PSA 10 and taking offers if anyone wants to complete the story for me!
A lot of UA-camrs have been complaining about PSA mishandling their cards, and returning them back slabbed in damaged condition. They hired a lot of new graders after (and during) the big boom, and many of them have no experience in handling cards properly.
it would be good if you do a follow up video showing what you sold them for then doing a calculation to see if the endeavor/experiment was fruitful , just sayin :)
Grading was not only $15. Add in shipping to get there. Then add in insurance and shipping to get it back. People in these videos always seem to leave that out. For me $15 grading fees usually end up more like $18. And after all that, when you want to talk about profit, dont forget about those EBay fees.
On top of the new increased yearly membership to even be able to send in which is $150.. the margins are so small with 13% eBay fees, shipping/materials, grading costs + time to even get them back, and these big online companies doing consignments submitting thousands of cards for grading and pricing it at the bottom to move them. That’s not even taking into account the grader having a shit day giving you 8-9s that would get 9-10s
In the bottom left corner it Showei.d the cost and value/sold prices and these Bangers were $75 all in on the Ohtani with a $90 value while the Marvin was $135 all in and sold for a loss at $110.
4:37 The Gem rate %s are minuscule for 2004 Mega Cracks (0.03%), (even a PSA 9 or better is still only a 20% chance) BUT, I wonder how much of that was because it was early 2000s and Panini were still working out quality control for their sports cards ? This just had to be good enough for a domestic product in Spain. 🤷♂️
How much will print lines ding you on optic/mosaics? I feel like half the cards I think could be valuable, I see a line, but I'm also unsure if it's normal or not.
Hello, was wondering what you shipping method looks like for how you ship out your cards in slabs. Just looking for some direction with shipping my own. Thank you!
This so strange lol. You see the grade before you show us, yet you hide it. At first I thought maybe this was to give us a cleaner reveal, but then you act surprised with some of them (whilst magically predicting others)
So how does combined shipping work with PSA? You say 15 bucks a card, but that didn’t include shipping each way. What are the true, actual, full costs per card - if others want to pursue this?
Honestly that was really good. Basically everything was a small W at worse and agreed they were harsh on all the 9's, so it could have been even better. Might try this out a few times!
Rough sub man! My last sub I sent out 28 cards (I'd say around 85-90% had a chance to gem) -- all modern and I ended up getting 4 10's out of them all. Just brutal when you get a grader like that, some shocking grades to say the least. I also got my first 8.5 in that sub (got 3 8.5's after NEVER getting one in 5+ years of consistent grading) Just strange.
Good day. Question! You say a $1 in, but what about the fees for the grading submission. Then fees for the platform you sell on. Are these variables included in your final figures displayed to the viewer?
I do middleman service and can confirm that this happens with almost any submission of 20+ cards that I have sent it besides a select few. I have been doing monthly subs for the last 2 years. Its horrible, 90% of the time they won't admit it, even with proof in pictures/videos. Its a shame.
Nothing will happen until people stop using PSA and treating them like the gold standard in grading. There needs to be a seismic shift away from them and grade with other companies.
My best value box card to grade flip is actually quite crazy! I once found a 1991 Matt Willaims Elite series card in a value box for 2$ and if you don't know about that set, they are EXTREMELY tough to pull (and really tough to grade) so a not-so-great player like Matt Williams still sells for like 40$ raw. I held it for a while and recently I just graded it with SGC and it came back a 9, now it's worth like 175$!! Also are you planning on going to the San Fransisco Card Show this weekend Troy?
Really like Trike and he’s probably one of the most honest and down to earth “influencers” in the hobby. But I think it could be a little misleading to not include shipping to and from PSA as a cost. If the card was purchased on eBay the shipping. And if you sell on eBay the seller fees. All these factors eat away profit on most small margin deals like this. Be cool to see a net margin breakdown.
Appreciate that a lot! Didn't mean it to be misleading. Just kept it out for simplicities sake. If I was framing this video like "oh my god look at how much money I made guys, it's so easy." That's definitely something I would make sure to note. The "total cost" is just a rough estimate on each card
Sup Troy, another solid vid. I'm not an expert grader but i'm curious how you'd do if you graded more expensive cards that you could target more the ceiling of the declared value for bulk cards. Would that make the higher grading cost a better value and give you better bang for your buck on your returns when you do hit?
I have about 44-ish cards to send off to SGC. Not high-end value cards but cards like Jayson Tatum and Baker Mayfield rookie from 2018 National Convention, Cooper Kupp rookie cards from 2017 Phoenix and 2017 Origins, some 2017 Phoenix Rookie Rising cards (Mixon, Watson, Godwin, Conner). For some example. Hopefully I can get them all in good grade. I might make a video of the reveal once i get them all graded. Might take 4 submissions and I'll have to try not to peek at them until i get them all done.
Question...when you submit to PSA how do you avoid the insurance? Or do you put in the values and pay insurance? I have never had a package lost so don't want to throw away money with insurance.
@@yesgo4887I appreciate the help. It is a legit question. I do not want insurance because I am grading low value cards and have never had a package lost of damaged. I have been watching your channel for a bit and enjoy the grind. As of others have said here in the comments like the fact that every video is not "Spent $10k at this show". As for PSA they just suck, especially as of recent. The inconsistency is real over there. Also like someone said, take pictures of your cards (especially the higher value ones) before sending. I have had some cards come back and was like WTF is this, this wasn't there when I sent it. I mean if it was then I wouldn't have sent it in. It was an Aaron Rodgers Contenders Rookie auto. The card was really clean with just the slightest whiting on an edge. I figured it would have got an 8 or 9, which I didn't mind because it was for the pc. It came back a 6 with a dinged corner that I know wasn't there before I sent it in. I have several magnifiers I use one being a 30x so I can see pretty much every flaw. I honestly hate that PSA is what the market wants. I have graded with most grading companies and liked SGC the best. Not saying they are perfect but I think the most consistent that I have used. Not sure what will happen now that PSA's parent company owns them.I hope you keep up the videos, really enjoy them.
There is a subscription you can pay for for PSA, its like $150 a month and includes the $15 per card bulk grading. However, I don't think he is including shipping.
Not trying to call you out specifically or anything but I honestly just think some people have a better eye for inspecting their cards for grading than others. I dont know why but i must be above average as i get like 75-90% 10s on most submissions. My last two were 24/26 10s. Weeding out those potential 9s or 8s goes a long way in profit margins. Sometimes just have to sell the iffy ones raw. I just hear a lot of people say they got a tough grader but my experience four years straight has been that I only get tougher submissions when I send riskier cards I know might not gem.
