- Sorry it's late. We recorded this two weeks ago but I've been extremely busy and didn't have time to edit and upload until now. I hope you all enjoy!
I love Reti's commitment to defending the Jedi & upholding morality. My favorite Jedi are those who refuse to create excuses to compromise their morality. It is a great show of character and discernment.
Thanks very much, I just wish I was more eloquent about it when I'm being recorded. I'm usually much better at getting my points across than you see in these episodes.

Love the Darth Plagueis novel. I think Luceno is the best story teller of the Star Wars brand.
My sincerest apologies for my less lively then usual performance in this episode. Shortly before we were sett to record this, I had just finished recording 1/3 of my Darth Bane VS Shaak Ti video, so I was a bit tired and my voice was horse. Hopefully you guys still enjoy our review.

Since Son of Dathomir retcons Maul’s origin (yet again), I view that part of the Darth Plagueis novel as being a lie that Palpatine tells his master. He knows Plagueis will identify the infant as a Nightbrother, however he kept secret the fact that he was the son of the leader of the Nightsisters. He knows Plagueis will berate him for causing unnecessary conflict with potential allies in the future, so he concocts this story that a Nightsister gives him her son to save him from a life of servitude to Mother Talzin.
Plus this is such a Palpatine thing to do, if he can deceive his own Sith Master then he will be more confidant in deceiving the Jedi Order the more he interacts with its leading members.

Jensaarai1 is good at stirring the pot with out of the box notions. GreyJedi91 is really knowledgeable and down to earth. Antoine is good at leading and directing the conversations. Reti4 is like Spock, nothing less than what is logical. Evan is good at . . . Listening and summarizing.
They are the perfect group to represent the Hardcore Star Wars Fanbase. I have round tale discussions with my friends at school like they do, and each of us sound like one of them. I listen to this, and I have my lunch table conversations about the Force and Lightsaber combat back for the summer. These guys are the best, and are so painfully underrated.

The philosophy debate around the 20 min mark is great. It’s great to see what I do/don’t agree with in the debate.
The only way that I see Windu coming back is that he finds out that the Jedi Order is dead and there's nothing he can do about it and see he retreats into exile. In his exile, he scours the galaxy for force-sensitive beings in the hopes of rebuilding the Jedi Order. However, he knows that be needs time rebuild so he remains hidden, training the next generation of Jedi(perhaps even Ahsoka, but doubtful) for years to come. However, one day he is found by one of the inquisitors or Vader, where the empire will respond by sending an invasion led by Vader and every single inquisitor in the Empire (and perhaps even the Emperor himself) where a hard fought battle would ensue. Though Mace and the Jedi fight valiantly, but are inevitably defeated by the Empire and the forces of the Darkside.
That Cognus fanfic makes me wish that Jensaaraai1 was a legitimate writer of Star wars Canon. He would make it so much better.
Connor wasn't saying that the jedi separate martial training from force training. He was saying that the Jedi separate PHILOSOPHY from their practical focuses, while sith try to actively meld PHILOSOPHY and practical focuses

There is canon source (dont know which atm) that says there are repulsors in the lightsaber rings, which makes more sence than spinning plasma creating anything at all. Still a stupid idea, why not just jepacks, or even Cad Bane rocket boots?

Someone on the Council needs to go to a college fantasy literature class and give a lecture on the Star Wars EU. I would be totally down for that. Jensarrai1 would be the nutty professor, Antoine would be that cool young guy, Reti would have all the fangirls, and GreyJedi would be the wise old sage.

I agree with Jensaarai, "reactionary" is the perfect word to describe TFA. You can't even call it just conservative because it actually uses a narrower range of imagery than that seen in the OT.
2:40 - Rahm Kota did survive a drop from the atmosphere as well after he had been blinded and choked by Galen.

2:22:40 - Sidious is wary of pretty much any threat to his rule. He isolates Dathomir because of Gethzerion and her feats don't place her above even Galen Marek as of Felucia. Hell he was ever wary enough of Galen to have ordered his death upon hearing of his existence though he of course reconsidered this having his body recovered and had Vader set him to revealing Rebels. Even Cronal was someone Sidious didn't want to train in fear of him becoming a threat to his rule.
Didn't really have much to say after 2 hours of that. Evan you didn't talk much. That's all I really noted.

I feel Reti4 is more the old order: He's old and wise and understand the force in a calm way, just by the way he speaks. GreyJedi is kind of the same, but wishes to learn mistakes rather then join a order. Evan and Antoine are the new order: trying to understand the mistake of the jedi of the old. And Jen sounds more he's into learning about the old and ancient sith. Like Indiana Jones, almost.
this was the first book I read of the Star Wars EU and I have been watching all of you guys for a while so I understood quite a bit

I would like to see a follow-up podcast discussing the announcements and anything of interest that came from Celebration.
1:00:00 Ah, yes, I remember that scene. It felt slightly jarring at first as it was a step away from the main plot, and as you say, was handled very clunky. At the time of reading, Darth Maul had returned and it fit with the show, so I perceived it as another connection to the wider universe in much of the same way as I had done to EU references.
1:17:00 While the TCW episode didn't really effect Syfo Dias and his death (apart from the lightsaber changing from Grievous to a crash and the placement of Dias's body), the other retcon that happened in that episode and, one that really jarred me, was that Finis Valorum was still alive and living on the retirement mansion when he should be dead by now. The comic that detailed this was Star Wars Republic #61, and it actually made him a far more intriguing character. Now in the new canon he's just a plot device.
It would be interesting to see if the new EU of Star Wars is told through movies while the old EU would be told through Netflix series.

Was anybody else expecting to read the description of Plagueis' lightsaber in the novel and hoping that it sounds almost identical to Vader's hilt?
According to the revenge of the sith script, Windu actually partially deflected Palpatine's Lightning. Hence why he was just burnt instead of outright disintegrated

isn't TR-8R's weapon actually used like that in real life? I've seen policemen spin their batons to creat momentum for more powerful strikes. we know that TR-8R was personally offended by Finn's betrayal... omg I'm defending episode 7 kill me.
I tend to think that a lot of what Plaguies says and thinks about the Sith philosophy is as much a reflection of his Muun upbringing as anything else. From his own internal commentary, the Muun (or at least, the wealthy class Muun that he belongs to) are ambitious and elitists, but also about the collective good and the advancement of the many (albeit as led by the few).
Basically, it's hard to imagine a Sith like, say, Darth Malgus having the same view of Jedi vs Sith philosophy as Plaguies has, of it being stagnation vs progress etc., since so much of what Plaguies believes is a reflection of both his own personality and of the culture he grew up in and belonged to. In a way he falls short of what it truly means to be a Sith, which is in truth entirely about being a selfish bastard who cares only for his or herself and pursuing ones own power and ambition at the expense of everyone and everything else, and seeing the rest of the galaxy- including the Force- as something that exists to serve rather than to be served.
I have another question/idea for you all: what about a book series that covers events mentioned somewhere in the Expanded Universe / Legends, but that hasn't been explored yet and could open up the potential for interesting new stories? I've always wondered, for example, what Revan was like as a padawan under Master Arren Kae, and what adventures he had, something like a new Jedi Apprentice series, with Revan, Malak, and their fellow padawans in that time period, taking place just following the aftermath of the war against Exar Kun?

on a note about the comment Reti made about Luke getting burnt by Sidious's lightning. I always looked at that scene as Sidious is using low powered lightning to slowly torture Luke to death, whereas with Windu he was intending to insta-fry Windu

Yeah I know he was slow cooking him to begin with, but the "Now, Young Skywalker, you will die" bit kind of signaled the deep fry portion of the lightning in my eyes, which he then survives for the thirty seconds I was referencing.
It's open to interpretation of course, but that's just my take on it. (There's also the fact that Mace's force defenses were, at that point in Luke's life, leeeeagues ahead to consider. Not to mention Mace's whole Vaapad effect, which would no doubt shield him further.)
Hmm whether or not he was using his deep fry or slow kill, could go either way.
true, Mace did have way better defenses, but he did lose a hand and was caught off guard when Palpatine insta-fried him. wouldn't that have kinda rendered his defenses kinda inoperative?

I never knew how bad I wanted Jedi Knight Garrus Vakarian until now.
As much as I am looking forward to the gauntlet, it is hard to imagine anyone other than Mace and Yoda having a hope against Plagueis.
People can debate whether he is superior to Sidious but most would agree that they are comparable.
Considering Sidious disposed of 3 Jedi Masters who are (at least in universe) considered to be literally the finest of the order with only Yoda, Windu and maybe Kenobi rated above them, and considering the ridiculous ease with which he killed all 3 (certainly the first two) it seems like it would be hard to make a case for any other council member standing a chance.
The likes of Fisto, Shaak Ti, Plo Koon and of course Kenobi would likely put up a fight to varying degrees but the rest probably would die insantly, much like Tiin and Kolar did against Sidious, and none would stand any chance of actually defeating Plagueis.
At least that is my opinion, I look forward to hearing you guys make cases for and againat various Jedi.

Question for your next force cast: how do you think plagueis and sidious would've coped if they were found out before they could implement the sith grand plan?
I'd choose to edit the direction of Episode 8 because there's 1 thing I want to add. Put in 1 character who found such a balance between the light and dark sides of the Force, that he's even on par with people like Grandmaster Luke. Then, make him rub it in by curb stomping Kylo Ren and Rey (and maybe Finn). Then, in episode 9, have him turn to the dark side, but lose most of his power because he lost his balance.
Going of that comment about netflix series id love to see one done for kyle kataran following him from his time as an imperial operative to about the time of the new jedi order being made,

It was pretty horrendous to me, especially Ian McDiarmid's awkward farting faces.
Well I don't know what you were watching. It looked slow, clumsy and more like two out of shape and aging actors playing sword fighting than a Sith Lord and Jedi Master duelling. And don't even get me started on how pathetic it looked when he killed the other 3 Jedi, especially the first two.
Each to their own I guess, but I thought it looked awful and was one of the worst choreographed fights I have ever seen. I would expect a school play to be more convincing
+Antoine Bandele for some reason I would have preferred a more classical fencing style, especially if using a stage actor like Ian mcdiarmid. Stage fencing may have worked better and relied less on those awkward close up shots. Keep Mace fighting the way he does but Sidious uses pure, traditional Makashi to redirect and riposte trying to penetrate Windu's defence. What do you think?

Regarding dark side degredation, I'm skeptical that it even happens because it's so inconsistent as Antoine allueded to. But assuming that it does happen, I would guess it has to do with channeling Force energy through the midi-chlorians in your cells. Using the dark side is channeling energy selfishly, so it literally pulls energy away from the normal functions of your body in order to allow you to twist the Force like that. Using the dark side is like taking Force steroids. It could be literally bad for you in the long term on a cellular level, though in the short term it can give you a definite boost.
The only character that should come back from the dead now is Darth Plagueis, just so I can see the look on Palpatine’s face.
I know he won’t since his ashes were sat in Palpatine’s office for over a decade. Still, that would be a Star Wars film I would want to see.
Any story can be fixed. What I would do for episode 8 is introduce Jag Fel as an imperial defector who was horrified by starkiller base, and brings with him a ship and knowledge allowing him to lead Poe and Finn in successfully gaining the advantage and capturing Kylo Ren (after an intense dogfight). Meanwhile we would see Rey being seriously trained by Luke as well as officially learning their relationship. In the climax, Rey (empowered by Luke's battle meditation) would confront Luke. At one point Rey would be overcome by Snoke's lightning and Luke would transfer it to himself, killing himself but giving Rey the opportunity to strike down Snoke. But Snoke would return in the end, setting up episode 9 to be a twisted version of dark empire, with Rey playing the role of Luke, and Ren playing the role of Leia. At the end of the trilogy, Jag would be head of imperial remnant (with implied future romance between him and Rey), Rey and Ren would be founding a new Jedi order, and everything would be set up for Disney to follow this up with anything. They likely won't do anything that works that well, but they could.

There are several great real world lightsaber combat groups online these days, i have never heard any of the council ever mention them or review any of them. i for one would really like to see your opinions and thoughts on them.

Not, darth plagueis related, i just wanted to comment on the rebels talk. I don't even get the inquisitors existence at this point. Like what do they do? They've had trouble with padawans. They would be less than worthless against a knight let alone a master, so why does the empire have them? Is vader too busy? Way back when i was a kid i thought that vader himself had killed all the remaining jedi. Then the eu showed mara jade and other key agents who could go after the remaining jedi and they were all skilled at doing so. Why have people like the inquisitors who are so useless going after targets so powerful?

they serve to act as sacrificial sniffer dogs. they sense force users and found Padawan and Jedi. they normally can kill a Padawan but will get slaughtered by anyone higher. but when they do get killed Vader knows there a force user of reasonable power in that location and then he goes and puts them down. they get rid of the weak not worth Vader's time threats and serve as scouts to found tougher prey.
this question is similar to a earlier one and before you say anything I know that if you had a choice you guys would be jedi even if conner is iffy but if you were sith what do you think each others down fall by ether stubbornness or apprentice etc I understand if you don't do this question keep up the grate work

Once you think about it the desgin of a single bladed lightsaber is impactalical(can not spell). One wrong move and you are dead or missing body parts. It is cool but not possible to use.

What do you think of the idea that Snoke is a very old and damaged Palpatine? considering Snokes intrest in Skywalkers and reluctance to completely train Kylo Ren. Not to forget Snoke's insistence on building of another planet destroying weapon. Not to mention that Palpatine witness first hand the rise and fall of the Galactic Empire. Thank you .

I'm not sure if you've mentioned it anywhere before, but what are your thoughts on the new canon established for lightsaber colors? I'm personally hoping that we'll start seeing MORE colors and get away from the plain Jane red, blue and green.
Seems to be already going that route. We've got blue, green, red, yellow and white so far.
Antoine Bandele My three favorite lightsaber colors which I use in my own personal blades are purple, cyan and amber so I'd love to see characters not only have these colors but for them (Star Wars) to explain exactly what about the characters caused their crystals to become these colors and for it to have a significant meaning. They did this for Ashoka and her white crystals but I want to see it for many, many more colors in the future.

I'm planning on using Arcann after the next expansion is released.
I don't think Sam Jackson's head canon means anything, rather it's the fact that it has been corroborated by Lucas and Filloni. That being said I'd rather not have him come back, Mace's death is the figurative and literal nail in the coffin for the Jedi Order as we knew it and to cheapen that by saying "oh he just had a great fall" disrespects Mace,his death, and Anakin's fall.

01. Jerec, Sariss, Desann. 3 late legends dark jedi who defying their nature really resembled actual sith in one or more aspects of their mindset. Who agrees and who doesn't?
02. Debate the 3 most iconic crime lords and/or organizations of all the ones existing in star wars! Everyone give their personal favorite top 3 list!
03. Debate all the ligtsaber resistant and force conducting materials in star wars regarding their practicality in actual use!
04. Which are the most underutilized planets in the franchise showcased in games, movies, animation? Everyone pick 5 beforehand, then compare notes if there are any connections!
05. Which are the most underutilized races in star wars portrayed as force users? Pitch a force sect for them that has combative teachings, and also denote a lightsaber form (or two) for them! For example Falleen - > Sith - > Niman.
06. Which are the lesser known force sects of the franchise which could hypothetically train individuals who could combatively be rivals to most well known sith or jedi?
07. Give credit to the more obscure but still perfectly grounded and non-ridiculous lightsaber designs! Everyone portray their own choice and try to concince the rest that their choice is superior!
08. Who would win? Imperial Knights vs Mandalorian Knights vs Jensaarai vs Knights of Zakuul
09. Which old expanded universe vehicle should appear in the new canon limelight? AT-PT? AT-AA? etc...
10. The Muun vs The Pau'ans! Tall people! Who would make the more capable (mostly) melee force user saber wielders?
11. Mon Calamari, Quarrens, Nautolans, Selkath! Out of the 4 most well known aquatic races, who are the most versatile in all possible battle situations as jedi or sith?
12. Trandoshans, Barabels, Chistori, Ssi-Ruu! Out of the 4 most known reptilian races, force+saber users were really rare if not non-existent. Explain how each would benefit from having a new jedi or sith character! NONE of them should be deaf to the force!
13. Aside from Grievous and a few obscure entries, cybernetic prosthetics were really just showcased with humanoids! What is the reason behind this? Pitch new races that would benefit from cybernetics with storytelling!
14. Do some research work and define the somewhat exact BBY creation date of the 7 classical lightsaber forms and Jar'Kai! (I already have notes on Vaapad and Trispzest, because they are easy.)
15. Has there been any instances when irridonian and dathomiri zabrak mingled and/or interbred? Kao-Cen Darach BTW looks kinda suspicious!
