    The estimated High Council members are;
    Greyjedi91; Grandmaster.
    Antoine Bandele; Spymaster (always got the latest news)
    EvanNova95; Loremaster ( I have jet to find something he has not read)
    Jensaarai1; Battlemaster (best lightsaber-style videos by fare)
    Reti4; Master of philosophy (see his video-discussion with Greyjedi91, nobody knows the light-side and Jedi teachings better)

    Darth Bane, Genius Strategist, would plan the search in advance. He would set up stock portfolios, fake accounts, get himself a custom-tailored suit, and present himself as an intimidating, commanding broker who is considering donating to the school. Then the dean would run away screaming and the Dark Lord of the Sith would be confused until Zannah cleared her throat and said, "uh, Boss? You um, you still have a few orbalisks on your...everywhere."
    "...Do you want to try?"
    *Sigh* "Gimme ten minutes. You owe me so much for this."

    Beautiful intro, you know I always thought the fan art was symbolic how of few true EU fans there are out there with the rise of the new canon.
    You have five council members in an isolated room, each of them not really conveying any emotion. Combined that with the quiet music in the background and the fact the council itself is pretty small. The scene feels very sad yet beautiful. Like seeing the last members of an extinct race taking in a deep breath as their culture withers away into obscurity.
    Anyway I am grateful that you guys are making videos. It's your content that show how large and vast the EU is, and that despite the fact there aren't going to be any new stories in that universe. That we the fans, have the power to keep the memory of the EU alive.
    I wish to say thank you from the bottom of my heart for helping me believe that enjoying the stories of EU is still worthwhile.
    May the Force be with you all, always.

    29:00 I’ve always found it interesting that the darker reality of the Jedi is they pathologically can’t tolerate dark siders ( to be fair most dark side users are d bags but it almost like “ you used the dark side, spend a year quarantined meditating an never do it again.) they also have a hard time grasping that they condescend to non force sensitives. ( especially in the prequel era)

    Niman is my favorite lightsaber style too. It gives the practitioner an adequate response for pretty much everything and encourages the fighter to be creative in their application of the style. When you do this it allows the fighter to put a very personal spin on the style the more they study and practice. What you get out of Niman is how much you put into it. I love this. It's much like Bruce Lee's Jeet Kune Do philosophy: Use what works for you and discard the rest.

    a common complaint against rey is that she had no practice with telepathy/mind tricks until she frees herself. but she did, several times in the movie before that. she can understand chewbacca not because she speaks wookie but because she percieves his meaning through the force. she also judges finn to be a good man because she is intuiting his mind on an instictive level. also, consider who she influences. a soldier who has no personality, no individuality, and no defense. see how zombie like he walks away and obeys. she didnt gently shoo him into action, she simply strongarmed him into it. whereas obi wans and lukes mind tricks were smooth and subtle like a feather duster, she turned a power washer on him.

    • @spookasaur3132
      @spookasaur3132 6 років тому +1

      Okay, but compare her power to Luke's and Obi Wan's in general. It took Obi Wan YEARS to become that powerful with the force. Luke, while he didn't take YEARS upon YEARS to be good with the Force, it STILL took him embracing a lot of training and combat with Vader and Palpatine to fully realize his potential. Also, Rey goes from "The Force is real? I've always thought the Force, Luke Skywalker, all of this stuff was a myth/fairy tale. (she even says this during the conversation with Finn, Han, and Chewie on the Falcon.)" to "Look at me I can do everything high ranking Jedi Knights or Masters took years to do in the span of one to two (MAYBE 3 if I'm being generous) days. And while yes, her use of the mind trick was blunt and not at all subtle, it doesn't change the fact that it's a high level technique that you don't just do out of the blue.

    I don't think that the Clone Wars Jedi were corrupt and weak from lack of an enemy. Quite the opposite. They were corrupt and weak and the Republic in the middle of an apparently Golden but really Gilded Age because they ended their internal battle. The Jedi have always fought amongst themselves over what it is to be Jedi.
    On the one side, you have Nomi Sunrider, Revan, Meetra Surik, Lord Hoth, Obi-Wan Kenobi and almost all of the New Jedi Order who want to do right and bring justice, to positively affirm life, living, goodness and making things better.
    On the other hand, you have Atris, Satele Shan, Yoda, the Dark Woman and more who define themselves by the word "No." No tolerating the Sith, no emotion, no self, no relationships, no fighting for what's right, and DEFINITELY no holding the Republic and Senate accountable for their actions. The only thing these Jedi affirm is being Republic stooges, except when citizens are facing genocide, oddly enough.
    From the Rusaan reformations to Order 66 the "No" Jedi had complete control over the order. Well, congratulations, "No" Jedi, you had the galaxy for a thousand years. Was it everything you hoped for? Oh, wait, no hoping either.

    50:00-1:04:30 I love the discussion of Plagueis character and the contradictions of his practical and political nature and his double standards for philosophy and the narcissism that drives him, even when he claims it for the greater good. Also, the voice actor for the audiobook is a perfect plagueis and if the character appears again I hope he gets to play the character.( and if not have Doug Bradley do his Pinhead voice.)

    I LOVED Darth Plagueis as a book and a character. He is one of my favorite Sith, and in my opinion one of the last true Sith Lords. Darth Vader was a Sith, but not really in the same way that Plagueis and Sidious was. After the death of Sidious in my opinion the true Sith were dead.

    lmao know I'm late to the party but I would like to say that Darth Plagueis was my first real exposure to the EU. I tried reading some short novels as a kid, but it wasn't untill after High School that I really got into books and it is thanks to Darth Plagueis I did. I understand your argument about not visualizing the aliens properly as I did not consume any SW media except the movies before I read this novel, but I did THOROUGHLY enjoy the novel and is my most revisited novel and audiobook. I probably listen to it 6-24 times a YEAR (no exaduration) since it came out.

    I also have Asperger syndrome and find myself preferring order and linear thoughts. Which might be why I always preferred reading comic books or watching tv to enter acting with others, cause I’d always know what was going to happen. And it explains why I like your detail oriented videos so much.

    Something that occurs to me is that Darth Bane really does good by the phrase "wise men plant the seeds of trees they will never sit in the shade of." It's not really relevant to this Forcecast, but it struck me over the past week and a half: How the hell can the Jedi Council justify not giving Anakin a Mastery on the basis of not being mentally ready when they gave one to Quinlan Vos?!

    • @spookasaur3132
      @spookasaur3132 6 років тому

      Yes but also lets not forget, counting Clone Wars material as well that Quinlan Vos had long ago trained a successful Padawan to Knighthood (Aayla Secura), and on that basis alone, that's usually enough to decide if the Knight in question is ready to become a Jedi Master. Anakin failed to train Ahsoka to knighthood, considering she left the Order during the Clone Wars. Therefore, she left=Anakin failed his test, therefore, he was not eligible to be a Jedi Master.

    As a Hockey player, I built my approaches around standing my ice with blade locks checks and shoves. I always hated it when players on my team or the others weaved coast to coast to avoid being hit, while I served as a 6ft defensive tank, not because I was wide immovable rock but because I was balanced and sure on my blades. As someone who understands quick blade (boot/foot) transition for grounding and stability, I would specialize in DJEM SO. A duelist fights on his legs and as Hurb Brooks said, the legs feed the wolf, and your strength comes from your footwork. As a number of in universe duelists prove, it isn't hard to overcome the negative connotations associated with Form V: the lack of mobility, the heavy handed focus, and often the single minded approach of the wielder. Kyle Katarn was a running Djem So practitioner, Ulic Qel Droma was fast, agile, and Exar Kun's equal (Niman poster boy.) Hmmmm with that will Kao Sen Darache be the new Niman poster boy in the rerelease of the seven forms Jensaarai1, you used Qui Gon instead of Yoda for the Ataru poster (I'm not complaining.)

    If you think about Plagueis' character and his perceived sociopathy, it's actually pretty damn similar to the way Dexter Morgan is in the show Dexter. He can turn off his empathy and emotions towards others, but at the same time, he is shown to care for certain people who have earned it from him. But like I said at the same time, he can turn it off and be a ruthless, bloody, violent killer. The only difference is that Plagueis (with the exception of the time he lets the dark side influence him with the assassination attempt) can effectively control his impulses, whereas Dexter Morgan is driven by the impulse to kill.

    Great episode! :D
    I loved that book, and yeah, at around the 50-minute mark you guys really summed up one of my issues with the Rule of Two. There seems to be a common assumption that the Rule of Two "worked" because it produced increasingly stronger Sith. The truth is, being a Sith is about more than using the most brute force (or Force). The Rule of Two may have worked for them to a point (even this is at least debatable), but I view it as more of a strategy than an ideal. Yoda even admits to himself that the reason the Sith won was they adapted while the Jedi didn't. Treating the Rule of Two as dogma set the Sith up for destruction just as much as the Jedi training to "refight the last war" set them up for destruction.

  • @jonathancampbell5231
    @jonathancampbell5231 8 років тому

    I may be alone in this, but I think Palpatine also genuinely regretted killing his family in and of itself and wasn't just annoyed that Plaguies manipulated him period. My impression of Palpatine is that while he may have truly hated his father, he wasn't sure if he wanted to KILL him, and even if he did that didn't automatically translate into a desire to kill the rest of his family. He may even have saw them as fellow prisoners of a tyrannical patriarch except that he was more openly rebellious than they were.
    In other words, I think Luceno was trying to say that Palpatine had some sliver of humanity in him that he resents Plaguies taking away. A lot of real-life sociopaths are like that- they feel like they needed to "get tough" in order to survive and prosper, and part of that is denying their "softer" emotions like warmth and guilt etc., but they sometimes still had or had someone in their past that they could show that side of themselves to. When Palpatine killed his family, he killed the only people he could ever even expect to be that comfortable showing that side of himself around, and he could never show it around Plaguies since he would interpret that as weakness (as does Palpatine with everyone else). Basically, Palpatine is an asshole who is still genuinely mad that his family is dead, and he firmly blames Plaguies for this (admittedly this is also avoiding guilt and personal responsibility, but he is not 10% unreasonable in this belief).
    A lot of this also comes back to Plaguies being a "machine man", and probably also the nature of his culture and upbringing. It doesn't occur to Plaguies that Palpatine might actually resent killing his family because it never really bothered Plaguies all that much when HE did it. Palpatine may be a sadistic sociopath but he is also more in touch with his emotions and is thus a bit more "human" (figuratively, not just literally), at least by comparison.
    Also, as far as a "Sith Hannibal Lecter", I tend to think Palaptine is probably the closest equivalent to that, even if he is more childish and petty. He's just as good as psychology and manipulation as the cannibal is; he just applies is more as a politician and as a grand schemer. But the way he handles Anakin and even the way he pushes the buttons of the Jedi (he isn't lying when he said they tried to assassinate him and overthrow the Republic after all- he manipulated them into attempting just that. Hannibal just as bit more class and restraint, and isn't so power mad.

      Well, this is very interesting. I'm inclined to agree to an extent. I think he may have felt that way in the immediate aftermath...but eventually I think something changed. Certainly by the time he takes his revenge on Plagueis. Luceno has stated that his intent was to try his best NOT to make Palpatine someone the readers could relate to. At the end of the day he still wanted him to be a monster. No...while I can totally see where you're coming from, I do think that once all was said and done, Palpatine really took issue with the manner in which Plagueis played him. I don't think he cared all that much for the fact that he'd killed off his family in the end. Especially since it's part of the price he paid to get where he eventually got. It was something that needed to happen in order for him to get what he wanted. In retrospect, he would never have denied that.

      Given he is Palpatine (or, just given he is human), he might have simply tried to have his cake and eat it. He is glad that he set down on the dark path and ended up as the most powerful Sith Lord who ever lived...but at the same time, he still wants revenge for killing his family, even if - had circumstances been different- he might have gone through with it anyway. If the initial rage was at least partly about the fact that he didn't them being killed, then even if he could rationalize it after the fact, he might still want to "get even" over it. Possibly he could just have imagined a timeline where he could have become a Dark Lord WITHOUT having to murder them all...or at least, if he did, that he could kill them in his own time and on his own terms.
      But yeah, I'm more inclined to believe that he just isn't being 100% rational, nor does he care to be. Since he is the Dark Lord of the Sith, perhaps he feels that he doesn't need to be either- might makes right and all that.

    I thought Form V was a combination of Shii-Cho, Makashi and Soresu? Soresu defence, Shii-Cho sweeps and Makashi precision
    I have a really hard time making decisions about anything and choosing a lightsaber form is no exception: which is why I think Niman would be perfect for me, since I can use the strengths from every other form I like. The other forms I seem to like or go back and forth between are Makashi, Soresu and Djem So.
    I'm not overly powerful, I'm very far from athletic, I have little patience for prolonged defence and my hand-eye co-ordination leaves a lot to be desired. Dear God I'm one of the Geonosis Niman practitioners
    I mean, even after a year or so of casual browsing I still could not choose which lightsaber to purchase from ultra sabers (I ended up going for the random hilt "grab bag" option).
    Sorry I appear to have ranted on a bit

      Carl Coriell funnily enough it was a Dominix ( the V3 version) hilt that I was mainly interested in but others also caught my eye. In the end I got a Dark Liberator in a grab bag and absolutely love it. While it has no frills and gizmos, I love the concave/convex (I always get the two mixed up) in the centre of the hilt making for a comfortable handgrip when using one-handed.

    Realistically, outside of Star Wars... the Glactic Empire was all human, because in the era of A New Hope it was very common to cast British actors in the role of villains.
    Also, I can't help but think Plagueis's party is a nod to Bohemian Grove.

    "chance is the one element missing from any periodic table": wonder if there's a literary reference in there? In Lolita, Humbert Humbert says of Charlotte Haze's death that man cannot commit the perfect murder - chance, however, can. Given Humbert Humbert's role in Lolita, that sets up some (aptly) dark resonances, given Sidious's part in birthing Anakin in the Force.

    I agree with Greyjedi91's assessment of how the Rule of Two sith were all relatively consistent when it came to power, Darth Bane in Dynasty of Evil is not that far behind Darth Sidious in ROTS when it comes to raw power, even Vader by the time of ROTJ was 80% as strong as Palpatine and the fact that James Luceno admitted that had Plaguies been awake when Palpatine tried to zap him with Force lightning Plagueis might have won albeit a slim chance of winning but it was quite within his capabilities as both a force wielder and duelist.

    I learned that when I read Palpatine's backstory and I imagined it being more like how Anakin used the force for his podracing. Something Palpatine did without being aware of it and that it was merely an amplification of his already considerable charisma. The same way Anakin used the force as an extension of his existing piloting skills.

    33:10 I’d say palatines quote is true in the sense that half the galaxy think the Jedi are a myth or had died out, the other half either think they are heroes or over blown .( at least during the prequel era to Luke founding the NJO and it pushing out legends like Katarn or Jaden Korr by the vong wars and before the prequels they are very well established ..)

    I always think of Niman as the contention form. Because its built around the principles of moderation and balance, you only do what you need to contend and stay in the duel. Its was one of reasons behind its conception, to allow Jedi Consulars to contend with Guardians and Warriors blade to blade instead of dominating the fight, that was saved for the force and martial disarmament techniques (TPLA.) Also Niman is only the best on its own on paper, with all other variables remaining constant or absent, which isn't the case in live combat against seasoned duelists or fighters i.e Vader, Malgus, Dooku, Malak, Jerec and even Skywalker. Also Nice stab, "So you are basically Darth Zannah" he he ha ha.

  • @edwaiwood2416
    @edwaiwood2416 8 років тому

    When looking for Palpatine, how would Bane handle it? I honestly think Bane would probably send Zannah in to bring Palpatine out arm over shoulder, that is if she is in his ranks already. If not, probably sit in the middle of the campus on a bench, pretend to read a datapad, and extend his sense outward to find the prodigy, how hard could it be. Possibly pose as an employer, for "risk" analysis and use the interview to ask about how far his ambitions go. As for this burn down the school analogy, this is Star Wars, a bomb would be easier, plus this is Naboo where nearly all the buildings are marble.

    Really Evannova95? You would not recommend going to a drug filled sex orgy? NERD. Really Reti4? You want the guy who makes a drug filled sex orgy on a monthly basis to take a women and put her in a dungeon? Typical British thinking. KINKY. But in all seriousness great Council Forcecast, I can not wait for part 2 to come out in 4 months. Aside from the Darth Bane bashing, seriously what the fuck, great Council Forcecast. I have to say that, in my opinion, The Darth Plagueis novel also show why The Sith and The Jedi had to be destroyed and why they needed a fresh start. The Jedi became weak and pathetic, while The Sith became too powerful and, once again in my opinion, stopped being Sith. The Sith are about controlling The Galaxy and destroying The Jedi, not about being gods lording over The Force itself. That is all.
    P.S. Great artwork at the start of the video and I rate the look of Jenserai1 (not the artwork) 10/10 great hair.

    My Lightsaver form would be Niman, the idea of contentious opposition and concordant opposition mixed with a judicious balance of techniques always appealed and that since it was so free form one could theoretically apply to any situation and configure it to suit your needs, being able to kerp your opponents off balance by switching techniques appeals to my sensibilities, unlike a character like Vader who will just batter or slice you to ribbons with tried and true techniques, also the first 3 forms since if all else fails switching to form 1 due to its simplistic bladework might just get the job done.

    Am I wrong in thinking that Plagueis had actually grown beyond what Tenebrous created, at least in some ways? In The Tenebrous Way, Ten said that as he began to enter Plag he realized that he had severely underestimated his apprentice's connection to the Force. Plag also made a few references to ways in which he looked down on Ten. Had he grown beyond Ten's intentions for him? Or was it a minor miscalculation of his Force ability plus Plag's own arrogance?

  • @zackthezabarak739

    30:40 I personally view it as the Golden age in the sense that there are 10,000 Jedi in the galaxy to only 2 Sith and there are at least 20 Jedi of this era that are among the wisest and most powerful ever produced by the order( Yoda, Windu, Kenobi, Fisto, Quigon , Anakin, Vos etc.) but on the flip side as Connor pointed out, except for some Mavericks like Jinn or Vos the Jedi are painfully set into their ways and rarely adapt till the end of the clone war( and die for t) and also except for the greats the other 9,900 Jedi are light weights like Jo casta or Coleman Trevor. So it’s a bit of a mixed bag. But in terms of military might I’d argue the Jedi at their peak were either the NJO post bong war or Old republic fighting Vitiate and Malgus.

    This novel had so much going on every page, I mean James Luceno is so good at wotld building and I agree if you have only watched the Star Wars films you will be lost completel as it is built on everything that came out in the EU beforehand, the bare minimum I would say you would need to to habe read to understand this novel is the Darth Bane Trilogy and even then there are references to obscure characters, technology and creatures along with planets from everywhere in the Expsnded Universe.
