- 2021 Honda X-ADV | First Ride Review
Honda engineers, clearly bored one afternoon, decided to answer a question that no one asked; What would an off road capable performance scooter look like? Join me as I take the 2021 updated Honda X-ADV for a spin and find out just what this strange machine is about.
Thank you to the fine people at Honda UK for making this video possible.

I don’t care…… I test rode this bike and absolutely loved it.
Good for you, not caring about what others think is the best way to buy your own bike! Have fun and ride safe.
@@Englishbikerdan I'm 55 and thinking about going all scooter and trading in my big bikes for a scooter. I already own a 1986 Honda Elite 250 with 14k original miles and it gets 90% of my ride time. I live in a rural town where a scooter just makes sense. Plus, they handle better, are less popular, and FUN !
It's absolutely gorgeous I want one. I used to think scooters are dorky then my dad bought a Suzuki Burgman 650. And I fell in love with it but it's not a ATV. And I love riding through National Forest.
take a look at the Honda Forza just bought one i think its wonderful!
Everybody should learn and try!
The Burgman 650 is on another planet ! It's incredible.
You would see more maxi scooters on the road if there wasn't so much bike snobbery about in this country ( england) they are very capable machines and are ideal for touring with no clutch and gear changing to worry about and you have storage on board. The biggest deal breaker is the price why are they so expensive to buy?
The UK weather doesn't help either. If it was like the south of France then you'd defo see more on the road. You're right about the snobbery though.
Here in NZ that attitude is dialled up to 11. It would be great here rough road touring.
I've sold my 125cc scooter. I would have happily changed it for a larger model but the relatively small upgrade was simply not worth the massive price difference. I bought a mid size motorcycle for less and I am using it to learn new skills, which is fun. Having said that, nothing beats a scooter with a large screen and a leg cover in winter.
@@PaulMacQ I still think the new 300cc vespa is still cool for short commuting
@@johnnyboy1586 i have a 2015 300 Super GTS Vespa and that thing is like a Cadillac. Smooth ride, rock solid and 85-90 mph! Matte Black. does 80 with my wife as a passenger .
Finally someone put fantastic review about my next bike I got all the info I needed and searching it for a months so thanks about that
Exceptionally well made video, thanks for another great review!
Great video as always Dan, really enjoyed it!
Just ordered a new one for delivery March 23.... loved the test ride
I had a ride today with the Xadv 2021 , very much the same feeling, maybe not very handful in traffic between cars you are sitting quite high here and have wide steering wheel. Electronics works well, abs, traction control in general very positive feeling from the ride. You have like scooter position but it behaves more like a bike.
The engine actually sounds surprisingly awesome.
agreed!
750 cc scooter!! Wow bikes have come on from my day with all these settings. Love your helmet by the way Dan.
Thanks Dan for your honest review. Greate job.!
I hired this in Madeira Portugal for five days. But I wanted style so got the 2021 Honda 750 Forza. It’s the same concept but with a fairing with a non adjustable windshield. I just love the bike.
Thanks EnglishBikerDan. I learned everything I needed to know when I heard your dirty laugh every time you gunned the engine. It's FUN.
It is! Some turn their nose up but I had such a great time riding it. 👌
Your thumbnail just brought me in
Beautiful camera work
Agreed, great eye for a beautiful photo and choice of filters or whatever he is doing (I'm no photographer). :-)
What ever that track was........it was brilliant! Loving the new edits as well mate...keep on doing what you are doing 💪🏻
Edit...it’s a Mountain bike with an engine..though a perfect bike for beginners
Nice vid. I tryed out X-ADV last weekend and it's very capable on paved road. The screen is adjustable, you have to release the small lever and pull out the button and that's it. In the vid is the highest position. If want to go off road, the offroad footpads are a must to standin the center of gravityof this machine. Even on road are they great to put your legs in like sport bike position behind the engine.
Ah thanks, I clearly failed with the screen! Yeah they handly really nicely on road and actually pretty good off road. Cheers.
Guess I’m early already have a feeling this videos going to be great
Great review Dan 👌☺️. I have an nc750 but would love to try one of these. Who cares what others think of it, I like it 😊
This is something I would consider as I suffer with arthritis and the thought of pulling a clutch lever, this could possibly be something I could ride and not miss out getting back on a bike again. Great review thanks.
Hey, the same here. For me its Carpal tunnel syndrome. Had a test ride on it. Realy love the bike. Perfect alternative. Greets
I am considering this for my American girlfriend who gets a bit stressed of the thought of being on two wheels and managing clutch/gears. She is currently on a Can Am Ryker. However for the lightest clutch pulls ever test ride a Ninja 400/Z400. Cracking little bikes, just taken my Ninja 400 on a 2000mile trip from Sussex to around the North Coast 500 (Scotland) and back. I retired early and have also suffered from Carpal Tunnel over years of constant laptop use.
I've had this bike for a little over a year and it's been brilliant. While the underseat storage can't really fit large modular helmets (mine is an SHOEI Neotec II XL-sized), it certainly is big enough to permanently house 2 sets of rain gear for myself and my wife, 2 sets of shoe covers, a portable battery jumpstarter, an INGCO portable pump, a tyre patch kit, First Aid kit, a multi-tool, and a small water bottle.
I got this as a do-it-all bike for commuting and touring rides (upwards of 1,000KM for each trip) from Singapore to Malaysia and the bike's SHOWA suspension handles all the poorly paved tarmac, potholes and green lanes all in its stride. Its relatively long wheelbase and suspension travel make for a very comfortable and stable machine for two-up riding with luggage. Stock suspension setting was a tad on the softer side so I had the front and rear preload increased by two steps to suit.
The bike is quiet up till 130KMH with an aftermarket WRS Touring windscreen, which is the speed I usually maintain on clear stretches of highway. It has no problem keeping up with highway traffic and cruises at 150+KMH without strain. It can reach its 170+KMH max speed easily without nasty vibrations though. At such speeds for my touring rides, fuel economy is between 21 and 23KM/L. On the other hand, commuting rides typically return between 27 and 30KM/L for me.
It is definitely capable of light off-roading, certainly more capable than what I dare put it through. You can check out an off-road review of this bike at ua-cam.com/video/pRJ0m8O-KVw/v-deo.html&ab_channel=Todocircuito.com
Great content! We here at Viking Bags really appreciate your videos! Keep up the good work!
Thanks, appreciate it. 👍
Fantastic review Dan. Love this bike for the reasons you gave as impressions. The practicality on this is immense and I believe when correlated with the price after you add OEM top and side cases, crash bars and aux lights and the legendary Honda reliability, it makes more sense to me than the NC750 whose updates for this year are nowhere near as good as on this. You delivered on this review bro. Keep them coming.
Yeah, way better than the nc750. The traditional bike design needs improvement. This is it.
I have an MV Agusta F4 as my "fun" bike - but some years ago I bought a BMW C600 Sport specifically for commuting. My route was M3 and M25 eastwards which is more like a giant car park at peak times. It would cruise at motorway legal speeds forever but was nimble enough to filter when required( which was a lot). Scooters are huge fun for urban use but as people have said there is a ridiculous snobbery about them. They have better weather protection compared to a motorcycle also. Price? well why should they be any less expensive than an equivalent size motorcycle when they often come better equipped with creature comforts for day-to-day travel..?
Thanx Dan nice easy going no BS review
I had alot of bikes but I love the XADV and will never come back ! It is so good …
thanks for that, it seems similar to a Yamaha T-max which I had for a number of years, in wet country scooters are the bomb but the tiny fuel range makes them impractical for long distance even though they are comfortable, I found that the dual disc's over braked on gravel roads, the last trip I took on it which I took the scooter because i was heading into wet territory but after missing my GS the whole time I finally sold it, its a great bike but not incredibly fun to ride when you get to the twistys, even though it was a competent handler
Just done 600 mls in Pennines with its baby brother the SH300i and wow, did everything the big boys could do, used little fuel and carried a heap of luggage neatly tucked out of sight so now think time to go for Big Brother!
You're now one subscriber closer to 50k!
Just test rode one today Absolutely faultless loved it @ the moment riding Africa Twin still love but would still like one .
Nice review thanks and covered all the important aspects. I've been riding since I was 16 and am 66 now but due to arthritis in my clutch hand making it extremely uncomfortable for more than an hour, so days out are impossible. This is a good option for me due to the DCT function and sheer practicality, and I suspect others like me with limited options will also like the X-ADV for the same reasons, and it allows me to keep riding for a few more years. Order placed and delivery in about 4 weeks.
Mine is absolutely brilliant. It's the only bike I've ever owned that I can't find a single fault with. The DCT is brilliant as are the modes. I'll never buy a manual gearbox bike again.
still faultless?? i might just buy one
@SDrizzy I have moved on now to an NC750X for no reason other than fancying a change. The XADV remains one the best and most fun bikes I've ever owned and I'm confident I'll go back to another one in 2 or 3 years time. You'll love it.
@@alastairday8451 brilliant to hear mate, although thats what i expected from a honda. bought a pcx125 new in december for commutes but thinking this will be a lovely upgrade in the new year with its touring capabilities
Great Video Dan very enjoyable, quite a fair sized engine in that tbh isn’t it. Cheers Jake.
Nice vlog 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Awesome and thanks for sharing your review of the scooter bike. I planning to purchase one.
Thanks Joel!
Should add as well, excellent review.
Lovely bike! DCT looks to be the solution to all who hate changing gears. DSG style 😊. Since the DCT's introduction, the Africa Twin and this have been very high on my wishlist. Lovely review, Dan! Always great to watch your video reviews. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
Cheers dude, I wasn't sure about DCT but I am sold on it!
Hey, i absolutely love it to. Had a Honda cb900. Yamaha r6 Yamaha r1 but since my Carmel tunnel syndrome i needed a clutchless variant. Perfect
Thanks for this review! BTW, to adjust the screen you have to pull out the know. It is adjustable
Haha, yep I read that afterwards. Doh! Thanks for watching! 👍
great review. thanks for that. I live over here in Thailand, and I am thinking to buy one. So its great to hear your opinion. Slightly cheaper over here than in UK, but not by much. Of course, over here, the Scooter market is huge. I already have a 150 ADV for around town, but the big one is ideal for touring, especially if you put the aftermarket storage boxes on. By the way, to adjust the screen, undo the lock and pull the round knobs outwards (there is one on either side of the screen).
Just picked mine up on Thursday. Live in Koh Samui and the bike (scooter) is awesome. Used to always have Vespas and was gutted when I couldn’t source one over in Samui.. This does everything you need for Thailand and gives you peace of mind when going along some of the dodgier roads… Tell me how you get on!! Shaun
one of a kind japanese unique masterpiece,
love it
i have the 2020 model and a 2013 cbr1000rr..
really love the xadv dont really miss the power of the cbr when im on it..good useable torque to zip around..
Great video, thanks
What a strange bike! Can't quite tell the target market. If I was doing city deliveries during the week but liked a bit of touring or gentle off road on the weekends.... Really interesting though! Great review and really cool to see some non typical bikes being ridden!
Yeah it was fun to ride. It sells really well in Italy! 👍
Target market... I'm a Yank, and we are scrambling to find the Honda ADV150, which is like trying to find tickets for a Stones concert... Honda put it out there, along with the CT125, and then trickles them into the States a few at a time, with long waiting lists, and scalpers doing land-office business finding and selling them to all the instant-gratification trust-fund babies with more dollars than sense, thus jacking up the prices to ridiculousness... We would KILL to have this unit in the US; we have the demand (and the roads!) for this bike, but Honda won't budge against the cry of enthusiasts to bring this high-perf scooter State-side. Consider yourselves fortunate to have it...😔😡
Hondas best selling bike worldwide.
Yes, Thank God I will buy one for myself
Great commuter!!!
Dang that looks really comfy
It is a niche motorcycle with some nice features - dct - ride by wire - tft display - wire wheels - hstc - abs - usd forks - the list goes on - perhaps that's why this particular bike is a tad expensive - personally I'd opt for the forza 750 road version
Seems to me you had a lot of fun and that’s what riding is all about and it’s practical too I change from a big adventure bike to a 350 scooter which is great and very practical however I would like a bit more power maybe the X ADV could be my next bike/ scooter
The screen has 5 positions. Releasing the latch as you discovered and pull on the round adjuster and the screen goes up and down plus changes the rake a bit overall it's quite effective. I had version 1 sold it and now have version 2. Refrain from trying to plug it into any specific category. Correct. Ride one. I obviously love this thing. I have numerous other very nice bikes in my garage that now get much less seat time as it's just so delightful to ride this very competent all ' round machine. It's impressive.
Does it really only get 150 miles on a tank Doug? My GS does 200 and my V7 230. Still really fancy one though :)
@@GS-xg4nz Your data is wrong. This is not my first XADV. I had the 1st generation. It routinely got 65 mpg or 28km/l. That meant a distance in excess of 200 miles. I did trips from Bangkok to Chiang Mai and Bangkok to Phuket etc and the 200+ mile range was sufficient. I've also had a GS (and 11 other BMWs) and the XADV has its own good attributes. Currently I have a BMW F900XR and it's a reasonably good motorcycle and maybe better all round than the XADV but if it had DCT it would be fantastic. I bought the second XADV as I will always have an XADV in my garage.
I should mention the good mileage is of course dependent on the prudent use of the right wrist as with any bike. On tour I ride modestly and hence the good range. Wicking it up a bit drops that number a fair amount. But that's not how I ride the XADV. All in all its an enjoyable machine. Cheers and Happy New Year!
Those 750 motors are indestructible. We have a customer with 150k miles on his NC750. They do need a lot of valve adjustments but its really easy with the motor tipped so far forward.
Absolutely, and for many reliability is really important!
NICE BIKE, 3:58 dct dual clutch transmission
you almost said : "buy this!!".....couse, you really had a great fun with Honda....
The XADV looks like a practical urban assault vehicle for commuting, if you need some highway capability. Otherwise, I'd want half the engine size so it's lighter, gets better mileage, and is less expensive. I'd love to be able to lock my full face helmet in the compartment, go grocery shopping, then put the bag of groceries in the storage compartment for the ride home.
My dream machine
Well that looks fun ideal for a commuter for when mothballing your main bike during the winter and just a run around to have a bit of fun on it's got some pep by the look of it I reckon you could see loads of these in and around Italy maybe ha : D .I would have one if I had a shed load of money and had all the bikes I wanted as you said .But unfortunately that's not the case good watch as usual . ; )
got cb650r 2 months ago. now I want this one...
Nice review Dan having come from sports bikes to big adventure bikes to an Xmas 300 I get the maxi scoot thing. I’m looking at Forza 750 /XADV or the BMW C400 as my next bike at the end of the year, I mainly commute 10miles/day (lucky here in the south west) & runs (20mile) to the beach with my SUP surf /foil board 🤙 T he X ADV ticks a lot of boxes but the £ is steep for what I’d use it for, but it could be a keeper 😁decisions decisions🤙
Did you get one? Did you look at the Tmax?
That intro👌🏻
Excellent Review Dan. If the ADV had the 'off road' pegs fitted, would you have used them rather than the scooter footplate when riding in the twisties to give a more sports riding position?
May I please ask, what gear/microphone do you use to record your vocals? It sounds great considering you're riding the bike. Wind noise seems minimal all things considered. Cool video.
my dream bike
Nice,I want one.
perfect bike for singapore roads
Drives me nuts that Honda will not export this to the US however the 350 is on its way so I’ll have a go at that the reviews are really good
Would love you to do a review on the Honda Forza 350 scooter
Unlock and turn the knob to adjust windshield 👍🏻
Yeah, looked it up after. Doh! Thanks!
Waiting for that style from Yamaha, with belt and no chain.
That intro track could have made a rusty beetle review seem sexy
about time to see a scooter entry in offroad competition, like the famous sixdays lambrettas in the fifties or sixties ......
Agree. Gibraltar Race Renato Zocchi. Check it out! Best regards.
Thank you for the great ride. One quick question. Is this the Iridium Mud Grey, or the Pearl Mud Grey Colour? Greetings from Greece!
My favourite bike
I love it. It looks like a Gobot
Not sure if I missed it in the video Dan, you said when you first starting riding the bike you couldn't understand it, after the time of having the bike, has that view changed? Do you think its worth the 10K?
Nice bike but not the weather
When will this be available in the US?
I have 2021 model, what a fantastic bike. Don't see a "scooter" in it, it's 99% a motorcycle. Very pricey though if you kit it out fully!
Hey, I have a plan to change my bike, and buy something like this for light touring.... can I ask how is the seat and seating position for longer rides? Thanks...
what kind of kit are u talking about
It's a scooter.
@@paulwintermute1495 your a scooter
Will it ever be available in the USA?
which is better Dan? you recon for touring with a pillion? cb500x or that? thanks
I'd like you to do a review of the manual gearbox version. Also it would be good to see what the abs does if you brake full on on a corner!!
Do I detect hesitation in your comments? Are you enjoying the effortless coasting it gives you? Why does it matter if it got 15 inch wheel? A bike was meant to ride, not judged at, which you (in the beginning) and many do. These comments , calling the xadv a "scooter" , must have frustrated honda engineers and people like me who understands what this is, a CROSSOVER. A scooter has CVT transmission, and a very troublesome system of rollers and pulleys that need frequent servicing. The adv uses a dct, an advancement of transmission in all of motorcycle universe, smoothe quick gear change, with robust reliability. To call it a "scooter" is an insult. Anyway, love your review❤️
Please tell honda to send some to the USA!! Also, the cb350rs!!
So bummed we can't have these in the United States I would buy two to load up on my RV
I got 2017 NC750s, Is this new updated engine has louder engine sound than old NCs'?
WIsh they sold it in the US. We get the ADV150 which is pure joy to ride, but I would love to have this bike.
love that bike, the price was so different than my country where the price increase to $31500 because of tax
Ouch!
@@Englishbikerdan in my country its $42k
@@Neo3rdx wich country you live ?

Very nice video. Is the gearbox less noisy then the previous one? I mean when shifting.
Nope.. still ‘clunks’ but you get used to it 🤗
For £10850 it does appear slightly expensive however it is quite a niche product with a lot of decent technology - I particularly like the tft display and ride by wire throttle add in the duel clutch transmission abs traction control and you begin to understand the price structure a little bit better - I reckon that the optional rear rack panniers and topbox would add another three and a half grand and the total price is now £14350 - we are now talking serious money - nonetheless there is really nothing similar out there which gives the bike that exclusivity which many of us desire
Bike with travel pack just over 13k GBP
@@gavinkirby6917 africa is 15k euro with dct and another level.
its interesting how many online reviewsers dont get this bike yet its one of the best selling bikes honda makes. i think the 350 version is even more compelling
It was a lot of fun!
Okay but why does it sound so good?
Needed in the U.S.A!
If you rotate your handlebars to a more vertical position you will have a much better riding experience and control of the bike, also feels more aggressive bike.
Just watched this again. I can't be ar5ed with modes. Leave it in sport and learn how to handle the throttle. Good to have the manual shift facility for the city and auto for the motorway. I am beginning to wish I didn't buy my secondhand SCR950. Still, I could sell it and buy a Mk2 X-ADV secondhand next year. Let's see what I feel then. I like it better than the NC DCT now. More useful for the rainy season in the far north of Thailand. Feet up on the boards. I think the motorcycle accessory pegs are a must, then it's flexible. Nick J
I do think that the 125cc version, available in other countries, would be a success in the UK.
C'mon Honda!
i wish they would bring this to the US
We never get any of the good stuff, whether it is from the car market or motorcycle market. No cool bikes, no cool wagons, nothing.
@englishbikerdan I didn’t get you, previous gen XADV is taller or it’s just seat adjustment?
I understand the seat to be wider, making your legs more open and thus, shorter. I also believe the floor boards on the 21 are thinner to aid in this area.
Yup... get some pegs if you are taking it off the pavement.
Honda is supposed to be the best at CVT .... my 2021 Honda Civic Sport Touring has one... I wind up the rubber real good and taught at all the stop lights to get it going. :)
I do own two Honda MC
2015 VFR800DLX V4 w/SC Project Conic slip-on ( the V4 .... just a sexy song)
2019 CB1000R inline 4 w/Yoshimura AlphaT slip-on (Wild Gal)
Is there storage in the front ?
nice bike
Was getting excited about this bike, saw it on the flesh recently with top box, looked seriously funky! Then...... "150-mile tank range"? Eek. Not good. The less sexy Forza 750 may be the better option. No demo likes near me, unfortunately. Thanks for the review. P.S. In the scooter forums they all tell me to get a. Forza 350 as I have a big bike (GS). Maybe they are right, half the price and much better range. Not as sexy though. Hmmmm. Thanks for the review.
Kind of where the boundaries between motorcycles and scooters start merging
Scootcycle?
Does it have cruise control?
How's the wind protection on this?
