      My first motorized two wheeled vehicle was an old 49cc Honda Spree. I rode that thing everywhere, as an 18 year old guy! Just when most kids my age were getting hot rods or lifted 4x4 trucks, I was happier than a pig in slop riding my little two wheeler all over the county.

    I've just found your channel and really like it. You had negative comments about the ADV's seat, and I agree. I had a Honda 300 Forza (here in Australia) and it had a similar problem. I had a motorcycle upholsterer re-shape and re-cover the seat to remove the bum bustle. This gave me a nice long seat which was super easy to move back and forward on and was much more comfortable than the standard seat. I did many multi-day tours around New South Wales and Victoria. It was a great little tourer.
    Stay safe, Peter

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  2 роки тому +1

      Thanks, Peter. Yes, it's a pity about the short seat, but I was interested to hear you somehow managed to reshape it. I had imagined the need to preserve the space for the rear helmet under the seat would have made any reshaping very difficult.

      @Peter Anderson, I really was liking this bike, but the seat issues and not being able to move feet is a real problem for me as I'm 201cm tall with size 12 feet. But knowing I can reupholster the seat gives me hope.

    Dear Mr Rocketman,
    En tant que français, je regrette déjà de ne plus entendre votre ressenti en toute objectivité comme motard expérimenté : votre sympathique accent et votre sens de l’humour « so british « était comme un cadeau supplémentaire à chaque vidéo 🏍🏆 Ne laissez pas les « rageux » nous privez de vos vidéos vos abonnés

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  2 роки тому +6

      Cher Laurent. Merci pour ce gentil mot et pour vos encouragements. Le problème, c'est que ça demandait vraiment beaucoup de temps supplémentaire : le français étant généralement un peu moins concis que l'anglais, il était extrêmement difficile de synchroniser l'audio en français avec les images de la version anglaise. Par conséquent, je faisais des vidéos très simples, pour ne pas dire banales, afin de pouvoir coller le voiceover français plus facilement. Résultat, la qualité générale de mes vidéos en anglais avait commencé à souffrir. La seule solution sera de faire des vidéos complètement séparées en français, ce qui risque de me prendre trop de temps. Mais rien n'est exclu, je verrai bien par la suite :)

I wish we in the US had the option of buying these larger scooters like Europe and Asia gets. The closest is the Yam XMAX 300.... if anyone can find one in stock. So I will just have to learn the techniques to get the most out of the PCX I have. Its reasonably light weight helps a lot on maneuvering it and MPG.

    Very fine review. Do you need more for riding through the landscape? I also have a scooter Piaggio BV 350 and a Motorbike. I only like the Motorbike more for touring, because of the better suspensions, but not because of the power.
    Can you say something about the suspension on the ADV - mabye in comparison to a motorbike?

    • @RocketMan_Moto
      @RocketMan_Moto  2 роки тому +2

      I agree, it's sometimes nicer to go slowly and enjoy the scenery! The ADV's suspension is excellent for a scooter, but not quite as nice as what you'll find on a proper bike. The rear shocks are a bit too firm, and contrary to what Honda stated in their original press releases, they cannot be adjusted :(

    Nicely presented. I just visited the Czech Republic and was riding around for 8 days on a Honda PCX 125 throughout the country. Found it sufficient for my use, except for the lack of luggage space. After the trip I visited a motorcycle dealer and saw this ADV 350. That's the scooter I'd buy if I could. In a place that has very twisty roads and villages/towns every couple of km riding a PTW with an automatic seems more practical. Plus it's hard to beat the convenience of the boot/trunk. Here in Canada I have a scooter - Vespa GTS 300 and find the power sufficient. Also, I have a bike - F750GS - and as much as it has a very nice ride and comfortable riding position, for European riding I prefer a (light-ish) scooter.

At the same time one could say that sitting on a Motorbike gives you a better control , and depending on the bike and how it's equipped it can leave a gap between the pavement and the bike so your leg doesn't get crushed. Hiking boots can be used as riding boots. Sliding along the pavement at 60 kph it doesn't matter if you came off a scooter or a bike - there better be good riding gear

    Few Americans like or ride scooters. I started riding scooters three years ago and now split my riding time between the Bonneville, the Himalayan, and the big Burgman. Many of the criticisms you listed for the Honda also apply to the Burgman. I would love a shot at riding the the 350 ADV but it is not available in the US (nor is the Forza). I prefer my scooter to my Tacoma for anything within 50 miles of travel (gym, groceries). I rode it 140 miles to Daytona this year during Bike Week and was generally ignored. So be it. Ride safe RocketMan. (From the colonies)

    Great point about the horn button, why do Honda insist on doing this? In an emergency I always default to my lifelong automatic memory of bottom left. Love your videos, thank you for taking the time to share. Question, I live in the US, but will keep one of these in Lisbon. I’m coming back in July, and will put down a deposit at that time. I understand you live in the Algarve, but, would you happen to be familiar with any of the Honda dealers in Lisbon? I have not contacted any yet, but I am concerned about needing to wait an extended period of time before I could receive one. Lastly, I have not done my homework, but I have a US drivers license and have driven in Portugal using that legally, of course. I will not be a Portugal resident, would you happen to know if there is anything I need to satisfy to operate the scooter legally? Thanks again for your time…

      Thanks! We began our adventures here in Cascais, so I do know the Lisbon dealers quite well. I bought 3 new Hondas from Linhaway in Cascais and was very happy with their service. Artur spoke decent English, but I’m not sure if he is still there. Try linhaway.pt. As for legislation, you can ride up to a 125cc bike on a car licence with no additional training (other EU countries require a minimum course of about 1 day), but 126 and above - so for the ADV 350 - you need a full bike licence, which is a relatively long process involving several weeks training and a final theoretical and practical exam. All that said, I’m not sure how things work if you’re a temporary visitor from outside the EU. One way to find out would be to inquire at a bike rental company. Hope this helps.

    Enjoyed your review.
    I hired one for a test ride in Thailand, since the dealers don't allow you a test drive, and I must disagree with the rating of the handling, I consider it to be far superior to the Forza 350, which I already own. The Forza has a tendency to want to fall over in tight slow maneuvering, whereas the ADV is very chuck-able, even though it's a tad heavier, it also inspires much more confidence in cornering at speed, feeling much more planted on the road.
    I also consider silver is the best colour, however it's disappointing they couldn't get the pillion grab bars to match, maybe black would look less bulky and more cohesive.
    The manual slot under the seat is a nuisance, as it reduces the capacity considerably by almost an inch of headroom below the seat level, and I have sawn off the ones on the Forza, to enable a bulging backpack to fit, and I can't understand why the glove box is not lockable, like the Forza.
    I've just completed a very comfortable countrywide tour of almost 7,000kms on my Forza, and would happily do the same on an ADV.

    I don't really trust journalist reviews anymore. The MCM one that I just watched, for example, is pretty shallow. This is why your videos are a refreshing change from what is posted elsewhere.
    Anyway... my main beef with the 350 (SH, Fz, ADV) is the fuel consumption that has sharply raised compared to the 300. My SH 300 averages 3 L/100km road (not highway) and 3,5 city. The 350 has identical fuel capacity, which means that the range has taken a hit, averaging 250 kilometers instead of 300. From my perspective, the 350 SH offers too little improvements to justify the switch.
    But... The ADV changes all that. OK, it's a bigger bike, but a bigger bike is sometimes a good thing (since I also own a Vision 110, you know like me that we are prone to street bullying). I would also like to feel what the double yoke fork brings to the behaviour on disrepaired tarmac. Some say it's more confortable than the Forza because of the longer travel of the suspension.
    According to my dealer, the ADV are sold as soon as they arrive. I might consider selling my SH to get an ADV despite the 1.000 euro markup.

      Thanks for your kind words of encouragement. I agree that the consumption so far on my ADV 350 has been slightly disappointing at 3.6ltr/100km, but I am hoping it improves a bit as the engine loosens up. I do miss my Vision 110 though, unbeatable with its 1.6ltr/100km, as you will know :)

    Great scooter right up until the point I got a puncture and needed to replace the rear tyre. Contacted 5 dealers here in the UK and all said they can't get one, one even saying that they are no longer made. So I've had to swap both tyres to Michelin street tyres, not so much an adventure scooter now. Come on Honda these are consumables!!!!!

    How does it compare to T-Max? I know Tmax engine is almost 2x powerful, but is there really 8k euro difference? Also you mentioned wind around legs when riding, that is more of a concern to me than looks of the scooter itself.

    • @RocketMan_Moto

      Problem I have with the X-ADV 750 is the chain drive, non-adjustable screen, tiny under-seat storage and, of course, the fact that it costs literally twice the price of the 350!

    As a happy owner of the ADV150, I thoroughly enjoyed that review. Not that I have a choice of buying an ADV350 here in Australia, but I often wonder if the larger bulk and weight of the 350 version would outweigh the benefits of having the extra horsepower, particularly for a shorter guy like me. The extra width of the seat and body is very noticeable in the pics/video I have seen.

    One of the issues I have with Scooters (Had a Burgman 650 for a while) is checking the air in the rear tire. Looks like this bike could be a bit of a pain in that department as well. Fat fairings, disk on one side, big transmission on the other. Or at least I found it a pain and couldn't really do it with a helmet on.

    • @RocketMan_Moto

    thank you for an earnest review i brought the Big brother XADV 750 mostly the same design and i hate the say it
    it was a wrong bike for me i got a lot of pain in the ass and the bike and seat were to wide to reach the ground (i am 183cm)
    to call it ADV are not correct standing are rather impossible sitting you have to control the bike with the ass because you can not hold it with your knees , living in a wet Sweden you get a lot of dirt and dust under the the plastic body and the frame started to rust only after 6 months and to remove plastic body requires special skills.
    So the kind dealer took it back and i got an Africa Twin DCT instead.

    • @RocketMan_Moto
