  • In this video, I perform a replacement of a harmonic balancer on a Dodge 1500 2nd gen. This truck is a 5.9 but this procedure will work on any 2nd generation dodge 94-02.
This job should take no more than two or three hours if you have all of the proper tools. Unfortunately, if you have to go back and forth to the auto parts store to pick up the specialty tools required, it will take longer.
You will need: impact gun (preferably), harmonic balancer removal tool, harmonic balancer press tool, and fan clutch removal wrenches. You will also need several sockets and a ratchet, but besides that there are very few tools that you will need for this job.

😮wow didnt know about the 6 bolts on pulley.
I have a 2nd gen Dakota with 3.9v6 it has the exact same crank pulley and dampener balancer.
This does help alot I never a video my same pulley explaining remove 6 bolts first and then 22mm.
    Harbor freight has decent impacts.
The bauer brushless 1/2 impact can use Milwaukee m12 m18 batteries
Bauer needs the $20 adapter for it from amazon.

    Awesome!
Which installer kit did you use? I cant find one that has a bolt that fits the 5.9 liter internal threads. They are all made for the 4.7

Ya you don’t wanna break or stretch the bolt by using it to suck the pulley in, not having to ever deal with that is well worth the few $$ for the installer, why did you choose to go with the one piece balanceras opposed to the removeable pulley ? I am trying to remove one of these right now and none of my pullers will work to remove the damper

I just pulled my crankshaft out out without an impact wrench. But now I can't get the harmonic balancer out cause it doesn't have bolt holes. The balancer and pulley are one unit with one single bolt in the middle. What do I do?

Why couldn’t you just use a ratchet to pull the crank bolt?

@@Thatlowdsg Engine will turn backwards which is a very bad thing. Those bolts are really on there to begin with and have been there a long time usually before people need to remove them.
