Harmonic balancer
Crank seal
Timing cover and gasket
Water pump and gasket
Nice! Thanks for watching!
You look like Ben Shapiro discovers weights! Lmao, anyways great video as always
Thanks for watching!
This was super helpful!! I hope your sponsors and patrons recognize the value of your well put together educational and entertaining delivery. Thank you. Keep it going!
I’m having a hard time removing the harmonic balancer. It appears that some type of burr or gasket has heat itself to the front facing where the bolt comes from. Is it possible and if so, what type of solvent can I use? We have switched off and on trying to tighten and re-tighten and tighten and re-tighten, also would you suggest that I use smaller bolts as opposed to the long ones? I’m just trying anything right now thank you.
My chevy 88 454 block got to put in a new trimming chain kit but got mor e to fix cause of low compression
Hello do you know which harmonic pulley install kit can fit my 98 Buick century I couldn’t find it on the website
Great video. 1 recommendation regarding the torque spec. Driving the bolt in with an air gun is fine but should not be used to over-shoot the recommended torque. You can yield the threads without knowing you caused the damage or the bolt could start necking, however, when you go to torque the bolt it will still click. Always tighten with other means below the finished torque and then use the torque wrench to achieve the specified value.
Thank u for sharing ur wisdom...
Thanks for the video. Im about to pull the balancer on. 3.8l gm. Other videos dont clarify whick way the point in the adapter faces. In fact one guy had it facing it opposite. Thanks
Thanks for watching!
Did a replacement in a 2003 Subaru without a puller or installer. This was 50,000 miles ago. Am I gonna die?😅
Nice work! No, you just risked pulling the threads out of the crank is all. But it seems like you got away with it. Thanks for watching!
How do I get the motor to stop spinning while removing the 3/4 bolt? Tried the belt trick and tried to jam the flywheel
I use a ring gear holding tool for the flexplate if it's spinning. Thanks for watching!
Can you change the homeowner balancer on the side of the road
Excellent video! As a complete moron engine wise I have a 74 year old Mercedes engine in my 101 year old cargo barge in France. The harmonic balancer is wobbling so needs changing. Now I know what’s involved, first I need to try and find an impossible to find replacement. Thanks! 😊
Nice! Thanks for watching!
I need more of these videos and more of this dude
You are too kind! Thanks for watching!
It's like your girlfriend left you a review😂 jk thanks for the video!
@@2carpros Im borrowing a harmonic balancer remover and installer for $119
wow , I have always used the bolt , I never used that special tool , learn something new.
Special tool is the way to go for sure if you ask me. Thanks for watching!
Yeah great video,,,, IF YOUR ENGINE IS OUT OF THE VEHICLE!!!
It's the same in a vehicle too. You just might have to remove things in the way. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros You obviously don't get my point. But ok, sure.
No one pulls the engine to remove the harmonic balancer. How do you do it with engine in the car????
Exactly the same way. You just might have to remove the radiator or anything else that is in the way. Thanks for watching!
I know I'm my car it's 04 Pontiac Grand Prix you can buy the part to take the pulley off at O'Reilly's you got to get three special boats because GM bolts are too big I have mine off in 15 minutes
Bbc 1974 remove radiator unless yor got your self a docket wrench u can to it that way
Same exact way, just in the car 😂
He was just using this as an example because the engine was already out!!!
Hi guys, my Renault traffic 16 van just had it replaced. I had an error on dash saying no charge to battery. then 10 secs later white smoke near alternator plus I had a loud rattle sound from engine I thought alternator failed, but it was the harmonic balancer. Cost was $1350 Au dollars in total.Thats a lot of cash🥺🥺 . So I'm guessing it's a pain in the butt to repair? why so expensive 😲
For a 454 installed, a 90 FT*LB torque stick seems like a good option.
Thank you, this was excellent. Now I know why the shop charged me so much to change mine.
Thanks for watching!
mine charged me $1300 Au dollars $650 parts the rest labour 🥺🥺 for Renault traffic 2016 van
Working on my Chevy big block I replaced my Harmonic balancer with a Summit Racing® Bracket Racer SFI, and when installing it when it seemed to be at the end, and then the tool backed it self out. Everything I have looked at, this does not happen. They Show it getting to the point were you can not turn it any further and you know your done. Any ideas, thank you for any help.
So the balancer isn't installed fully? How much is left before it is? I would try a different installer tool like the one I used in this video. Thanks for watching!
@@2carpros is it possible the key became out of place?
Wish we in Australia could rent service tools, no Spares Shop that I know provides this service. I'm in Sydney, happy to be corrected.
Bummer! It's super common in the USA. Thanks for watching!
You're right Dave, it's a real pain in the arse.
Dave I'm in Sydney I replaced mine for $1300 on a Renault traffic 16 van
"Huuuuunnndres of dollars!" lol My 4.7 Jeep Harmonic balancer tool rental was $119 at Advance auto! Yikes!
I would go elsewhere. AutoZone rents them for free. Thanks for watching!
Orielley's was free with deposited you get back when you brought tool back just for future use
@@ryanpaasch7464 how much was deposit? I just didn't have $100 bucks to put down that week.
@@livenfree it was $47? Different tools are different costs I am not sure if it is the cost new? I got mine off using a steering wheel puller it is what this guy is using. It came off in 5 minutes good luck this puller should be very cheap I threaded my crank bolt back in to push against.
Great post I'm old school and been beating mine with a block of wood and hammer but your way is the way to go.👌😎
Haha thanks!
I don’t think using all those tools really make it DIY aswell as the engine already being taken apart??
The harmonic bolt doesn’t come loose that easy in real life!
Did for me. Thanks for watching!
Very informative app Gracias😜
Thanks for watching!
Can buy one from Harbor Freight for $17.
I have a 3.6 di v6
What nobody shows you is how do you TIGHTEN the crank bolt without an impact? I know to loosen it, you can wedge a breaker bar and socket and blip the starter, but for the life of me I can't figure out how to tighten it.
Hold the ring gear on the flexplate with a long pry bar or holding tool. Thanks for watching!
Stupid when the engine out of the car
In the car, people complain they can't see. Out of the car people complain it isn't realistic. No win for me. It is the same in the car as out, it is going to look different like I said from car to car but the process is identical. Thanks for watching!
thanks i needed this
So my question is WTF DO I DO IF THERE AINN NOTHING FOR THEM THREE SCREWS TO SCREW INTO???? I’m somehow the only mfa with this issue or?
Then you need a different type puller like a three jaw. Check this video out. ua-cam.com/video/bqnuqOoCKpc/v-deo.html
You talk to much about nothing
I talk too much? It is how the creator made me. Thanks for watching!
I can't do this without taking the engine out?
Yes, most of the time you are going to do this in the vehicle. We just had ours out because we are doing a full rebuild of this 454. Thanks for watching Paulie!
Thank you Ryan!!!! Finally took off the harmonic balancer off my big block after watching your video!!!
Very helpful, I almost bought one, great point to rent it.
Thank you for clarity and your knowledge.
I have an '89 7.5l Ford, and am wondering how is the harmonic damper a press fit on the crankshaft, when it's butting up against the counter weight? Is the crankshaft tapered? What am I missing here?
It's a press fit, so you have to have a tool to take it off and install it like I have here. Thanks for watching!
Harmonic balancer 3400 v6 Impala
Want to say thanks, is all.
Watch the cheap stuff, grease it good.
What's the gap between balancer and timing cover? Or just til it's stops turning?
Till it stops turning. Thanks for watching!
Lol, even after using the tool, you drew it on more with the crank bolt anyway.
Sometimes it give it a final tiny movement but 98 percent of the job was done with the tool. Thanks for watching!
Very good explaining 👌 I got it fix my self thanks!
Great! Thanks for watching!
If I did this with my 454 still in my 55, would the transmission be able to hold the balancer bolt? When installing the new balancer? Or would this cause damage?
I wouldn't worry too much about damage, it would be more about spinning. So the torque converter might just spin with the engine and you might not get it properly seated. So grab a flywheel holding plate tool and have a buddy hang on to it. Thanks for watching!
No time for story of add, I do have time for this great mechanic like this one on the video , time to be schooled . Thanks for the School.
Our pleasure!
yup don’t recommend doing it the with the boot that holds it...it legit broke on me and now I need a welder...
Oh no! I'm wishing you the best of luck on the extraction Gustavo! Thanks for watching!
Huge value in this video!
Greezzzzzzz
Does this tool halt you engine from turning?? don't want to screw up the timing???
The timing chain is still attached to the crankshaft. This can't mess up the timing. Thanks for watching!
How do I get one off my 3.3 caravan?
Same procedure. Just sideways in the engine bay. You might have to remove some things to get enough clearance. Thanks for watching!
To much talking in this video mate
I disagree but, thanks for watching!
Awesome video! I was able to install a new harmonic balancer on my 96 4.6 2v Mustang because of you! Thank you, thank you! :)
Nice work! Thanks for watching Michelle!
Great video, lots of useful information thanks for posting.
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks!
Nice and clean job
Thank you! Cheers!
Dude this old you don’t see old engines no more
In the Hot Rod world they are still fairly common. Thanks for watching!
Thanks 👍
