  • FLUIDAMPR INSTALL 5.9 CUMMINS the EASY way! The easiest way you could probably install a fluidampr onto a 5.9 cummins or a 6.7 cummins engine is in this video. Using a ratchet strap to keep the cummins diesel engine from wanting to turn over while loosening the harmonic balancer bolts or torquing them down after installing the new fluidampr onto the truck is a safe and gentle way to get the job done. You could use a barring tool on the flywheel of your cummins if you have an automatic transmission or if you have a manual transmission you could put it into it's highest gear to attempt getting the balancer bolts out, but in any case I still think using a ratchet strap to tie the harmonic balancer off so it won't spin the engine over is the best way to get this done. I recommend getting your cummins engine turned over to top dead center when installing a fluidampr and marking the fluidampr so you know where top dead center is next time you need to turn your truck over to it. I also installed the fleece performance barring tool on the front of my fluidampr and used arp balancer bolts to finish the install and put it all back together, again using the ratchet strap around fluidampr crank pulley. I will cover more on this install, like arp bolts torque specs and review, and fluidampr harmonic balancer review in one of the videos coming up and talk more about what makes the fluidampr such a great product compared to the stock OEM harmonic balancer, and why you should also install new arp balancer bolts and not reuse the stock balancer bolts. See you soon to give my thoughts on my 2nd gen 24 valve cummins runs with the fluidampr installed on it!

    One of the easier installs you can do to your truck (now that I know how to keep the engine from turning). Certainly a great upgrade too!

      Good video helped a lot.👌
      Before i watched this video I was struggling on getting the bolts off the balancer.kept slipping
      Used the strap and goter done.
      Do i need to put back on top dead center???

    That ratchet strap trick worked great, however mine kept slipping so I put an old serpentine belt around the pulley and then put the strap over that to get more friction out of it. This held perfectly and I was able to loosen the bolts with a giant breaker bar. Someone must have overtightened the hell out of my bolts, they were extremely stuck.

    Dude this ratchet strap technique saved me so much time. Did my front main and couldn't get it to stop spinning over when trying to remove the balancer bolts on my auto. (didnt have a barring tool). Thanks for making this.

    To break the bolts loose just use 2 wrenches. Break 3 of your bolts loose while holding on the 4th. Then hold one of the 3 while breaking the 4th. I just did this and it worked for me. Now trying to figure out how to keep it from turning while I torque them back up.

    You’ll like the fluidampr. Made a noticeable difference for me. Changing the belt will be a little tougher because it’s obv much bigger than the OEM balancer.

      @geosolart I absolutely love it! My truck is a stick shift as well it helped the gear changes go more smoothly. Shifter doesn't shake at all. The truck idles like glass. Less valvetrain noise too. I like it so much I bought a second one for my other 12 valve

    great video! I have two questions. I'm going to install a fluid dampener on my 2006 Dodge Cummins. you used a barring tool on your install. My question is I have limited space between the harmonic balancer and the cooling fan Will the barring tool come in contact with the cooling fan? also why did you mark your new harmonic balancer with top and bottom?

  • @gman3280

    Hey going to do this on my 3rd gen. Thanks for the video. Why did you use a strap when you have the barring tool?

    • @purepanorama8484
      @purepanorama8484  4 роки тому +2

      I used the strap to get the old damper off because it applied a good amount of holding power to keep it from spinning. When I put the fluidampr on with barring tool, I used the strap again to keep it from spinning because it was just easy to do and hard to fit a breaker bar in the barring tool to hold it while trying to squeeze a torque wrench or 2nd ratchet in there also. Its a pretty tight space. It also gave me both of my hands to work with. I forget if I showed this in the video or not, but i actually trimmed my fan shroud a little bit too, so that i could get in there easier.

      Are you talkin about how does a harmonic dampener work?

    • @russkielol
      @russkielol 5 років тому +2

      How did it work? Does it worth the money, what's the benefit in real life. Is it reducing vibrations. Etc....

    • @duttydiesel8303
      @duttydiesel8303 5 років тому +3

      @@russkielol - Sorry make me chuckle. You sound just like me a few weeks ago.
      First off if you need a harmonic Dampener do it. It will eventually kill your engine from the tortional vibrations... If you knew that great, if not now you know.
      If you replace it from a destroyed dampener to a fluidamper you will notice a considerable difference in vibrations....
      From a good balancer to a fluidamper I don't know. I don't know anyone who would, most of us upgrade when it's time to change the stock one.
      Here's what I think you're looking to know.... Potential reasons you would want to buy one.
      Racing
      - supports higher HP (up to 700 before you need to look at drilling and pinning the it + ARP damper bolts) otherwise pretty certain the sky's the limit.
      - supports higher rpm (above 3000 Cummins diesel)
      - mandatory sfi rating for track use
      Street
      - assurance if your pushing limits your damper is not going to fly apart, it's a completely sealed unit with fluid.
      Daily
      - again assurance, any oil from front main won't disintegrate the rubber because there is no compund
      Reasons NOT to buy one
      - $$$
      If money's tight and you don't know if your keeping the truck, and your not pushing lightspeed.... A stock one will support a pretty solid amount of power..
      Hope that answers your question.

      My 4bt was shaking the shit off my jeep.. I had stock balancer, which doesn't have any rubber, I just replaced it with stock new one and it didn't help that much. I am going to play with my pump maybe it will help since at slightly higher rpm it's smooth. Anyways. Thanks

      @@russkielol - ok... I do not know a whole lot about the 4bt, to the best of my knowledge (and I cannot stress how little that it is) I believe the for BT's have an internal harmonic Dampner.... That being said I have no clue how you would go about changing one?
