3 Month Ownership Update of my Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro! Cement Grey never grows old...

  • I’m this video I provide an update on my Cement Grey 2017 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro. I discuss the few additions I made while highlighting my favorite attributes of this amazing rig. The Tacoma, Tundra and 4Runner each have their own special perks... as I drove the Taco today, I was reminded as to why I love this truck so much. Forgot to mention the LED headlights I added
    The overall driving experience is amazing. Sure the power isn’t up to snuff and the Toyo Open Country tires are noisy for day to day driving... but neither of those things take away from how much fun this truck is to drive.
    Now the big question... cement or lunar rock... hmm 🤔
    Thanks for watching guys!

    If you haven't looked into it yet look up the Desert Does It Seat Jackers. It's lifts the front and rear seat mounts to improve the seating position in the Tacoma. The front spacer lifts it about 1.25" and the rear mount can be lifted 1/4" to 1". Gives you a more upright riding position than the low sitting stock/oem position. Honestly it makes a world of difference in driving comfort for those pre-2020 Tacoma's that don't have electronic seats and height adjustment. Might be the best and cheapest mods you can do to a Tacoma.

    • @UntamedMotors
      @UntamedMotors  3 роки тому

      I’ll definitely look into that, thanks for the tip! 👌🏻 Appreciate it.
      I don’t mind the seating position for day to day driving but long trips can make the lower back ache a bit... =\

      I own a 2018 Tacoma. 3.5 L is a turd. Transmission is terrible. Mine had a terribly load rear end noise. Had to have Carrier bearing replaced to fix. I miss my 4 runner and it’s 4.0L Engine.

    Owned a 16 TRD Pro 4runner in quicksand and currently driving a 13 LC. I admit, I didn’t know what I was missing with the V8 over the V6. But I find myself needing a truck more and more lately. The tundra is great but it is huuuuuge. Driving on Idaho mountain roads I really learned to appreciate the smaller trucks ability to get into certain areas. The only thing I wish on the new Tacoma’s was that the hood was easier to see in front of when on downward angles. Maybe I’ll grab a truck in the future but I feel like I’m one of the only people who wants something smaller to get around. If you go to sell this thing, I’ll be in line!

    • @UntamedMotors
      @UntamedMotors  3 роки тому

      I think you make a solid point. The hood on the Tacoma is enormous... even for regular day to day driving -it can be a bitch bothersome. I hear you on the mobility of the smaller truck though... it’s so nice being able to go anywhere. =]

    Beautiful truck! I’m enjoying my one month old 2020 TRD sport 4X4 DCLB. But, It’s always about compromises. I would have preferred the Tundra for the roomy cab for a young family of 4 but the awesome 5.7L is hard on gas. Also, I would not be towing enough to warrant a big V8. For the Tacoma we make it work for seating and we are all comfortable for now.
    At 5’-11” the 8 way power adjustable seat is awesome. Also, it helps so my shorter wife can get in a comfortable position to drive as we are a one car family. We really like the available Apple car play and Android Auto too. These were just a few reasons why we waited until 2020 to purchase. Our Tacoma priced out at 53k canadian with a few dealer installed accessories. I’m just over the border from you. This is at the far end of our budget so another reason to go with the less expensive Tacoma.
    The lifts and bigger tires look sooooo awesome on these trucks but comprise the drivability by making the trucks sluggish. As already mentioned you should highly consider changing the rear diff gears to get performance back.
    Yes, Toyota always seems to go for reliability over performance and I’m okay with that. I owned a 1992 Extra-cab 4X4 V6 5-Spd for 14 years. Even with the anemic 150 hp engine we still towed a 13’ travel trailer, a canopy with a ladder rack and a canoe on top. Before kids we even did the Alaska highway in 2003 for 18 days and loved every minute of it.
    We are hoping now with a 7 year old an a 14 year old we can go on some new adventures and this Toyota is as reliable as my 1992. Yes, it had one flaw, head gaskets but Toyota fixed them twice under warranty.
    Enjoy your fleet of Toyota’s as they make a great product with amazing resale vale. Even my 1992 got great re-sale vale after 14 years!
    EDIT: Woah! You are a beast! Just watched some of your past videos! I keep my vehicles for 14+ years. You keep them for 14 days! Wow! Very entertaining tho!

    • @UntamedMotors
      @UntamedMotors  3 роки тому +1

      Hey! Thanks for the comment man! That’s awesome to hear of your great experience with your 1992. Those are certainly still desirable to this day. 👌🏻 You’re right about compromise.... the Tacoma and Tundra each have their perks... it’s really about weighing your options against the needs of you and your family... and it sounds like you did that. If take the Tacoma before the Tundra when it comes to bopping around town or up in the trails. It’s a more enjoyable truck. For us, the Tundra is just more practical. Even with the crummy fuel economy. =\
      Again, thanks for the comment -I appreciate you watching. Wish you guys the best in your future adventures in the Tacoma. =]

    The power in Tacoma's is sufficient until you increase tires size. Those Toyo's look amazing, but at 65 lbs. each, they really highlight the lack of torque at low rpm. I run the 265/75/16 Duratrac in load range C. At 45 lbs. each, the truck still feels very lively and I can still hit the sticker published mpg's if I'm conservative. But they don't look nearly as good as your Toyos do!

    My understanding is that the Tacoma's power delivery "issues" have nothing to do with the engine. It's the gearing, and the transmission and throttle response being programmed to give you the best MPG.

    • @UntamedMotors
      @UntamedMotors  3 роки тому +1

      You’re right. The lower 3.5l displacement (down from the 4.0l previously)... makes good power but makes it at higher RPMs... which when you tie it to a transmission that constantly hunts for the next gear, you’re constantly being left in the low revs without much power.
