Just How Good is a Mini Skid Steer at Moving Firewood? Let's Find Out!

- Just how useful will the Baumalight Mini Skid Steer be out here in the woodyard? Let's try it out. I'll be using the mini skid steer to help move around IBC cages of firewood from my firewood splitting area to my drying area. With the Eastonmade Axis and attached conveyor doing the brunt of the work, I'm more or less a driver on today's episode. Watch as I test the limits of the mini skid steer today lifting a full IBC cage of very wet and heavy hard maple firewood. As a rookie operator I'm a bit nervous, but am up for the challenge!

Good afternoon, Sandy. It's nice that you're able to demo different machines/tools without having to purchase. That being said, it can also lead you down a rabbit hole of possibilities for your operation. A balmy 26C here today! Greetings from Peterborough.
Hi Ken! Thanks for checking out the video. I am very fortunate to be able to try out some great equipment for sure
Love this splitter, actually surprised the paint hasn't been worn off yet.. It's also hypnotic to watch!
Business idea: People pay for the logs that they order per board foot.
You cut the trees and bring them to a processing area right by the road.
You stack the logs for easy processing on a log deck to be built.
They cut to length with their chainsaw and rent your splitter by the hour.
The conveyor can deliver directly into their truck or trailer.
By reservation only for a specific date and time.
Fifty percent of the board feet ordered is the booking fee.
Only that heavy duty splitter is used by the customer so no other expensive equipment is used by the customer.
You have so much work and only a limited time.
Keep making interesting videos.
Thanks for sharing that! Lots of work to do for sure around my place. Never a lack of chores that's for sure
Insurance costs would be a killer. Just way too much risk some fool would cut their hand off.
You pick up new equipment quickly, I am impressed.
Thank you!
Glad you been doing well fella! Hope the family all been well. If ya haven’t did the plumbing in your main bath bedroom bath. I started my own company since I was at your place doing your kitchen ;)
Nice to see all these new fancy equipment you’re working with. Take care Sandy
👍great video Sandy
Awesome piece of equipment
Top video as usual Sandy. That Axxis is certainly a tidy splitter, very little swarf produced. That wee skid steer will come in very handy for your operation. Even for working in your forest I think. Cheers from HB N Z
Hey Cliff! Sure can be great for the tight spaces I've got. Maneuvering a cage of firewood sure is easy with it
Howdy Sandy- as much as I enjoy splitting firewood l enjoy watching someone else do it, so, I really enjoyed watching the video. I would have to put a block of in front of the foot pedal to rest my heel on to keep from getting a cramp in my foot. Love your setup. Have a great week. God bless
Thanks for all your support. Great to have you along each video. I know what ya mean. Although I like splitting firewood I think I also prefer to watch others do it haha
Made the mini skid grunt a couple of times. And you are getting real speed with that splitter. Good vid. Thanks.
Thank you! Sure was nice time out there today!
Yea, you did well, Sandy, keeping the load low and taking your time. I definitely see some advantages to that machine over a true skid-steer... for your application. Take care....
Hey Carl! Hope you’ve had a great weekend
What a great log splitter! Thanks for the demo.
Thanks for coming along for the tour Ted!
VERY accurate description of the ride on steers R O D E O . after my first experience with a real skid steer , then up to tracked loaders , there is no comparison . my next buy is a baumalight feller buncher for the tracked loader . see if koboata will pitch in for a 97 tracked loader and bauma light for the feller buncher ! demo them as you thin your forest at warp speed ! love the axis too !!
Hey there Paul! I think where this thing really shines is in the tight spaces and 360 degree visibility. One of the things I really like is the visibility coming from a tractor where I can't see hardly anything up on the forks
Hello Sandy. I'm about 40% convinced you touch up the paint on the splitter before each video. I could not tell if you had the load completely cradled or not. That will shift some of the weight backwards. I did not see any snow remains, so I guess it's all gone, and I know what that means.
Have good days!
Haha it sure does gleam in the sun but no touch up here. They’ve got their powder coating process down pat
Don't hit the Joyota!! Nice maneuvering....what a fun way to spend the holiday weekend, enjoy!
Thanks Earl! I love that old Toyota. Hard to get rid of the thing when it’s such a reliable truck
@@sawingwithsandy Amen to that! I had an '82 and an '84, and when the engine went in the '84 when it was 20 years old I swapped it out with the one from the '82 and drove it for another 4 years! Loved that truck....
Quite an efficient operation you’ve got now! If you keep the mini skid steer, you should next try the Eastonmade MS 324 Mini Skid Steer log splitter. Never even touch the logs with your hands. 😉
Hey there Robert! That thing sure is quick around here to get things maneuvered
Great video Sandy. Between the Axis and the Bauhmalight the amount of physical labor is greatly reduced.
Thanks Dick! Hope all is well with you.
Love 'er videos ...keep'm rolling !
Thank you!
Sandy, another excellent video just wanted to let you know that maybe 🤔 to clean under the foot pedal of the Easton made axis 😮😊❤
Thanks Todd. Cleaning under foot is a good thing for sure. In winter it's especially important as the snow can freeze up
A while back I think you were saying that you were going to do a Q/A video. Did I imagine that? Haha thanks for all the content.
Hey Josh! I did say that a little while back but found it to be better to answer questions in the comments as they came in
Good afternoon Sandy going through that pile of fire wood pretty fast it didn't take long to do one of those cages if you feel it a light where you stand check with the company if they make plates to had weight in the back and i will agree with you on the fork it is hard to line up when you can not see them have a great day
Sure was a nice day out there! Baumalight does make a weight kit for this unit which would be a great addition for sure. Hope you've had a great weekend!
The Mini Skid Steer looks like the perfect tool for hauling pallets and IBC cages, but you are smart to keep the load as close to the ground as possible to keep the back from coming up to high, and to fast. If you do happen to get video evidence of you being launched from the Mini Skid Steer,I hope you will share it with us. 😅
Haha I will for sure
Great job....Standing in one spot moving logs back and forth would be very monotonous & drive me nuts. Excellent job looks very sufficient setup.
The weight kit would be a very big help to you
I agree with ya there John. It would be a great addition when lifting heavy like in the firewood business
Here we do not have hardly ant hard wood I cut only dry standing , they are already dry and are very light, your little track machine would pick it up very easily.
Good system and have a good day Sandy
Hey PJ! Thanks for coming along for the video
Afternoon Sandy, looked like a beautiful day, so what is the plan for chop shop
Thanks Brian! Chop Shop will be used for general storage at this point. Keeping implements in it
That Baumalight 620, has been known to pick 1800#
It sure seems like it’s got some good lifting power
👍👍👍💙💛❤NICE SANDY .💙💛❤👍👍👍
I sure would love to see ahonda engine on that splitter
I used to be a tried and true Honda man myself but after running these Vanguards I'm really happy with them.
You're standing all day splitting wood, and then you have to stand running the mini skid steer? Can you attach a seat and a sludge holder to make things more comfortable? 🤣
Good question. I"m not too sure if that's an option on these units. I find I get most tired when I stand in once place when working all day. As long as I"m moving my back doesn't get too tired.
Does the mini skid have a third function on it for grapples?
Good question. I've got a video coming up where I"ll be using a grapple but it does have a lever in between the two joysticks that control the open and close for a grapple. It's a detent valve.
I want a conveyor like that on my Ultra but they won't respond to my request! 😢😂 Not practical I suppose, but neither am I!!!
I sure do like the conveyor. I didn’t know what I was missing for so long but now I wouldn’t want to go without it
Looks like you need to eat a little bit more. That machine could use a little bit more ballast on the back.
I certainly don't pass up seconds haha. They do sell a weight kit for that mini skid steer which would be a great addition
looks like you have a lot more to split
Lots more coming right up for sure Ken
Nice Splitting Sandy, had to resubscribe again, 👍🏼🪵🇺🇸
Thank you! Great to hear from you! Hope all is well with you
