Thank you so much for the explanation. I watched to the end and am not currently buying a boat and still found the video very interesting. I always wondered why so many boats had that Marshal Islands as their registry... And thanks to you both, now I know.
Incredibly informative, similar to an indepth crash course in licensing/registering a boat! We are thinking of using our boat similar to you, but more in line with a B&B type charter. Many times we have researched and used your blogs to help guide us in using global healthcare, registering the boat, marine friendly equipment, and the importance of embracing being grateful. Thank you so much for all that you share. We've watched you since your early RV days:) Best wishes for many new adventures to come. 💖
What a cool video and such a valuable contribution to the cruising community. I am not a cruiser but I am an avid boater in the US. Loved listening to your attorney provide new information. I love learning new things and this was something I’ve never heard anyone talk about before. This is great seeing your yacht purchasing series come full circle. It’s almost like your channel has gotten a renewal for a new season. Cannot wait to see all the fun videos to come with the new cat. I hope Ben and Ashley get their new boat going soon as well. I love the whole process. Happy sailing to you both!
Watching from Annapolis! Nice to hear my beautiful hometown mentioned in the video. We like to call ourselves “the sailing capital.” Lots of boats here :-)
I made it through the entire video because I watch all your videos, not just the “ones that appeal to me”. I enjoy them all! Nikki, I’m hoping one day you’ll make a cookbook as I love the things you cook!
Always interesting even though the topics are so varied (and not so obviously things to expect) - you Always do a good job of educating & entertaining! Please don't stop
I’ll tell ya 16 minutes just flew by. I hope next week is an hour long video as I can’t get enough. I so enjoy and look forward to Sunday mornings with the Wynn’s. Thank you for explaining the registration process. Ever since you brought it up I was curious and interested in why you picked Bikini. Safe travels
Would watch paint dry with y'all and have. Not sure how long I have been watching but THANK YOU! my Mom and I went to Whitchurch this Spring and cruised the Llangollen Canal. Watching that series helped decide where we spent our trip. It was delightful and ABC Boat Hire was great to work with. THANK YOU ! THANK YOU ! THANK YOU !
I really LOVE watching your subscriber numbers go up and UP and UP!! Makes me happy! I'm an OG all the way from when you guys were touring in an RV! What changes you've encountered!!
Not buying a boat. Not even a sailor. I have been on cruise ships and water ferries and a few cabin cruisers on a lake. I am curious about why and how people do what they do. I am mobility challenged now, all my life but only past 15 yrs I need walking aids, 2 canes now. I used to hike, repel, snow ski and back in school I even ran track. I haven't "missed out" at all. I have found great joy in watching Nikki and Jason and two other sailing families. Great wholesome (except these two and all the caulking innuendoes' 🤣) I am grateful for this platform, where many extremely talented and/or motivating people share a part of their life. As travel has become very challenging, this is a good alternative,
One of the best informational videos you have put out in a while. We still have about 15 years until retirement, but planning ahead by learning and getting as much information so when the time comes we can jump right in. Been a long time follower and subscriber, and love when good and accurate info is shared. Thanks again. Be safe.
Coffee and Sunday morning sailing school with the Wynn's. It's a bit like a Vermont or Colorado license plate. Once you get one you don't want to give it up. This guy sounds like he knows his boat paperwork law.
The other factor to consider is that many insurers are dropping multihulls altogether as they trim their risk profiles in response to extreme weather events etc. We asked five insurers for quotes on multihulls insurance and only one even replied, and even the previous insurer of the boat was happy to get it off their books despite us having no claims ever. So getting a flag that increases your chances of even getting insurance is a really big deal!!!
Hey Nikki, I just turned 66 this week. When I was a boy we had a Vegetable based drink too. It had 8 vegetables in it. It tasted delicious and we called it " V-8 ". The other advantage was it was not formerly known as Soylent Green and made from people.
Yes, you have an amazing ability of storytelling that can make any subject interesting! I wasn’t really questioning why you registered in Bikini, but good to know!
Great video!! Great explanations!! (Not boring at all). Your HH44 really shines in the background. The fit and finish is exceptional!!! Can't wait for next week's video!! I'm hooked!!!

Very cool, I was very curious about why you flagged your boat in the Marshall Islands. Now I understand. There is a lot more to cruising than most of us realized. Thanks for taking me along again! 😊
I'm watching from central Florida. I'm not planning on buying a boat, I can't swim, and I can't find anyone else who talks about boat insurance which makes the subject informative; I wouldn't say I like water, but I still find your videos entertaining.
Times have flown by. Remember When Jason was so proud of his TransAm sports car trying to impress Nikki in his Teaxan youth. Now he's navigating an expensive high tech yacht purchase to sail the World again. Amazing! Very blessed!
@@BucketlistretreatsI have to correct this. Jason owned a Camaro z28 T top. At 19y.o. when he meet Nikki. Watch the episode "How We Became The Wynns (not just a road trip 1) where they shared about the anniversary and how they met. So cute!

Huge Kudo's! I've never seen this presented coherently anywhere else. Super helpful to know. Let's face it, having a Bikini on the back of your boat is cool, but understanding the implications and cost trade-offs is priceless.
Looking good Eugene! 😉 We're registered to the Marshall Islands as well - people either get a giggle and think it's a joke when they see the home port is Bikini or they think the boat name is "Liger Bikini". The register themselves have been excellent to work with, we go through the Swiss office and they've been extremely helpful.
Interesting about insurance, isnt it? Almost like you have to get insurance on your insurance! I mean! Tax and twist the short hairs, they got us! Lol. Btw..I am old sailor and follow several channels for my "fix" of the sea. I want to say, of all the new builds, refurbs and such these last months, yours has appeared to be the most sucessful and "undramatic"! I also think you have chosen the perfect vessel, it's beautiful and functional w/o the complexities that require an engineer on board. You done good!!! 😊 😅
Jason must have had a BERY long talk with your lawyer because he started the talk clean shaven and had a good growth by the end but was still in the same shirt! Very informative video. I’ve seen soooooo many Delaware registered boats in Turkey!
Very interesting. As a land based creature, I am curious to know how much insurance costs (rough range is fine) and what does it cover? My wife and I retired. In an abundance of caution, we got our home owners insurance reviewed and ensured we had replacement value coverage. Home is the bulk of our net worth and now retired it was essential we did not lose it. OMG, was that a good move. My next door neighbor replaced their home with a bigger one. In the process they managed to mess up our property. Our insurance has been working for 5 years and $millions to fix it. The replacement value rider forced them to restore even though it was a tough job. Whew!
Very interesting video- also, Nicky your hair is looking fabulous at this length, I love it 🥰 Have a wonderful week guys and I can’t wait to see where you’re taking us next week ❤
Bikini is the name of the home port. A country may have many different ports. Often the port name is the same as a city near the port. A USA boat will show Boston, or San Francisco, or Miami, etc, and doesn't show USA. They will fly a USA flag to show country of registry, not print the country name on the transom.
Good to see you both. Unfortunately, I’m not a boat owner and am only able to vicariously venture out onto the waters on Sunday mornings. But, it was an interesting video. You both take care. See you next week.
I really enjoyed this. I've often wondered if y'all would do some 'How-Tos' for regular stuff around the boat like how to tack with a jib, or when to deploy the spinnaker, or how to maintain cell phones (eSim/iSim) and comms, etc, etc. Jason does a great job with explaining all the broken/fixit stuff, but with this new vessel, fingers crossed, there won't be too much of that stuff...so a how-to like this is FANtastic. Thx for all you do, showing us noobs & groms the way. Jason got the dishwasher, I think Nikki needs another cat 🐈 😊 or some sorta liveaboard mascot, which is very good for the algorithm, right ;)
The Netherlands is also a really lenient country around boat taxes. There not taxed at all. Unless you gain capital from it. But since you already pay taxes over your income it won't be taxed I believe. However if you where to charter your boat out tho a 3rd party for money it would change taxes. Registration is really easy in fact a little to easy. Our flag is pretty strong as well and most dutch people speak perfect English so there's no language barrier with our language.
Thanks for the info! Super helpful; I always wondered how that worked. I would LOVE an episode on your electronics setup (eg B&G, Autopilots, AIS, Radar, VHFs, Jason’s big screen at the nav desk, etc)… so many choices it would be great to see how you made your choices and how it all is integrated (or not).
I am from the Philippines... I am already an old man - and I never sail... BUT I watch your videos because at least, through you, I can sail the world... So, thanks to you...

As I remember, you were a beautician many years ago!! See what you can do with your better half's "BEDHEAD"!! Stay safe and thanks for your ongoing efforts!! GIDDYUP!!
Thank you Nikky & Jason, another great video this week about maritime laws registration boat with terms that depend on the business and the seas you are traveling to. You made this report video interestingly enough without loosing yourself in legalese details. Sailing is not easy and living on a catamaran is really special. Cruising lifestyle is much more than a dream....
Has certainly opened my eyes to the complexities of owning an ocean faring vessel..It was really enlightening to get a plain language explanation of most of the vagueness in regards to the flagging and insurance..And, was, as usual, very entertaining!
WARNING! A single-handler sailor enroute from Mexico to me here in Guam had to stopover in the Marshalls for provisioning. He decided to get a hotel room his first night in to get properly showered and rested, only to have his boat burglarized by locals, possibly involving govm't officials. He lost a lot of personal property including cash, computer, camera gear and more. He thinks govm't officials were involved because they initially suspected him of smuggling and searched his vessel twice and they knew exactly where everything was located, including the safe, which was ripped out. 🤨
@@redwolfexr Oh, I think that adds to it. Don't get me wrong, that is a pretty horrible thing that happened to the inhabitants of those islands, but the whole "Atomic Age" is associated. So, the trifecta of Nikki in a Bikini, the one simple word, Bikini, and that it has all that baggage of those nuclear tests on Bikini atoll behind it.
Great information 🙂 I am also looking into "Multiple Citizenships". There are many countries that have Zero Income and/or Capital Gains Tax. However, be careful. Some of the countries are Blacklisted, but there are many that are not.Saving money on Insurance is one thing, but you are in a great position to acquire foreign Citizenship to save on Taxes... I follow the "Nomad Capitalist" and the "Wealthy Expat", on YT. Both channels discuss these issues. Great video, thanks for sharing 🙂
I'm from the Marshall islands and every time I've been at dock I noticed so many RMI flags and always ask why but this video answered all my questions. Thank you guys I love all the videos.
This was a great video with answers t questions I have been pondering for a while. An additional question. I am a radio amatuer, a ham. Can I use my own call /mm on a foreign flagged boat or do I need to get a callsign from the country where my boat is flagged?
Concise and direct ! Thank you (and Eugene) for the valuable info. Wouldn't it be cool to simply exist as a "citizen of Earth" who lives on a boat and doesn't pay taxes or insurance ? I know that sounds like a fantasy but that is my goal even if everyone tells me I cannot. Best wishes and safe journeys
I love tagging along on your adventures. I will probably never use your insurance info, but will pass it on if the occasion arrives. See you on the next one.

While your videos are always entertaining, and I have no intention (or means) of buying a boat in the foreseeable future, I watched to the end strictly out of "Curiosity".

Smart move. I register my super cars in Montana why? Well I pay $150 for registration and tabs vs $7500 or more in my home state of MN. And don’t get my started on taxes at purchase Montana is half of what Mn is.
I stayed through the whole video even though I don't have a boat cuz you guys are interesting and fun to watch. far ahead of the travel channels that are just a cycle of lunch, happy hour, dinner, and the late night bar scene
I watch you in Modesto because you are an authentic personality. You do not pose or posture. Your presentations are sincere. And you are very skilled in video editing (final touches are important). I would like to see more 'human interest' stories about the unusual people down in LA.
Insurance in and around the US suck on so many levels. Insuring worldwide is easy on many insurance companies. But once you want to include the US it is either not possible or it easily quadruples your payment. So good for you if you can stay away from that issue as long as possible.
Oh this AG1 stuff…cannot hear it anymore. Just do a research and find various independent (!) studies showing how you probably don’t need to spend your money on it.
Just learning from your travels and ownership certainly helps me to understand how to avoid troubles when I decide to become a owner of a beautiful vessel like yours. Thank you for showing everything that you experience it is truly incredible and insightful not to mention inspiring!!
Seems more like Risk v reward. Risk of insurers of US flagged vessels dropping coverage due to the litigious nature of the US. Also ease and simplicity of paperwork with ensuring that they were in the top few well regarded registries. Just my opinion that many in the US would be surprised that the US in not at the top of that list. There was a lot more than cost discussed.
AG 1 sorry it has wheat grass in it l. You cannot digest wheat grass that is food we don’t have enough stomachs for, like a cow. Go to pub med and research wheat grass. Waste of your money.

The best one is the dude with a solar boat.
These dudes are just hipsters.
Many thanks for taking the time to answer some questions many of us have and not losing us! Fair winds and gently following seas. May your blessings be gathered in the wind.
Not buying a boat, but very interesting. You two have the best personalities in the cruising world. Love you guys and never miss a video.
Thank you so much for the explanation. I watched to the end and am not currently buying a boat and still found the video very interesting. I always wondered why so many boats had that Marshal Islands as their registry... And thanks to you both, now I know.
Never a dull moment with the Wynns!
I'm not buying a boat, or needing to be entertained. I just stayed to the end because you are reasonably likeable people
Incredibly informative, similar to an indepth crash course in licensing/registering a boat!
Congratulations on that Beautiful new boat! Enjoy!
This was fascinating. I had been curious about this!
As travel has become very challenging, this is a good alternative,
The interview with the lawyer was a great addition to the episode 🙌
One of the best informational videos you have put out in a while. We still have about 15 years until retirement, but planning ahead by learning and getting as much information so when the time comes we can jump right in.
Been a long time follower and subscriber, and love when good and accurate info is shared.
Thanks again. Be safe.
Coffee and Sunday morning sailing school with the Wynn's.
It's a bit like a Vermont or Colorado license plate. Once you get one you don't want to give it up.
This guy sounds like he knows his boat paperwork law.
The back end of your boat is awesome.
One thing that comes under the "taxes" banner is the increased US tariffs on Chinese built luxury items. I heard about it during an ASA class.
What is the US tariff on Chinese boats? Is it 25% like many other products?
I snorted my coffee when I read this!! Well done!
Goodmorning guys, Sundays are ways better with you.
I totally agree 😍
Yes, you have an amazing ability of storytelling that can make any subject interesting! I wasn’t really questioning why you registered in Bikini, but good to know!
Great video!! Great explanations!! (Not boring at all). Your HH44 really shines in the background. The fit and finish is exceptional!!! Can't wait for next week's video!! I'm hooked!!!
I'm currently building my retirement plan (buying a cat, and sailing) and this was INCREDIBLY helpful! btw- I already subscribe to your channel, but this video took me from "entertained" to "helping my plans" Thank you so much, from Washington DC :)
You always do an exceptional job of making it entertaining, that’s why we watch.
Very interesting topic that rarely gets covered! Thank you!
Amazing. Thanks, guys! I didn’t know what I didn’t know. Always interesting to get an education on the “business end” of boating.
Times have flown by. Remember When Jason was so proud of his TransAm sports car trying to impress Nikki in his Teaxan youth. Now he's navigating an expensive high tech yacht purchase to sail the World again. Amazing! Very blessed!
Shoot I must've missed that episode.
@@BucketlistretreatsI have to correct this. Jason owned a Camaro z28 T top. At 19y.o. when he meet Nikki. Watch the episode "How We Became The Wynns (not just a road trip 1) where they shared about the anniversary and how they met. So cute!
@Bucketlistretreats It is a really fun series of 3 vids on how they got to where they are now. Part 1 starts here ua-cam.com/video/OCDGeSVvXPY/v-deo.html so check it out!
Curious Minion
And his long hair becomes his tan. Good job guys. Thanks for the continuing education.
New subscriber sends Greetings from Tucson, Arizona..
Wow, that makes complete sense! Thanks for explaining in detail, it was interesting.
Huge Kudo's! I've never seen this presented coherently anywhere else. Super helpful to know. Let's face it, having a Bikini on the back of your boat is cool, but understanding the implications and cost trade-offs is priceless.
You guys always brighten my day! Thanks also for all the great information ❤
Your editing is superb. The blending between speakers is SEAMLESS!!! well done. Well done. 👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍👍
Jason must have had a BERY long talk with your lawyer because he started the talk clean shaven and had a good growth by the end but was still in the same shirt! Very informative video. I’ve seen soooooo many Delaware registered boats in Turkey!
I have zero intention of buying a boat, or doing what you do. However, I find your videos very informative and interesting. Great job!
"We picked up our boat in Asia and we plan on cruising here for at least a couple years." Excellent.
This was fantastic. I’ll be coming back to this (and using your attorney) when the time comes!
Landlubber here but found your explanation very interesting. Now I’ll go look for why it says Bikini and not Marshall.
Bikini is an island in the Marshal Islands, like O'ahu is one of the Hawaiian Islands.
Curious Minion
Jason got the dishwasher, I think Nikki needs another cat 🐈 😊 or some sorta liveaboard mascot, which is very good for the algorithm, right ;)
This video is exactly why I watch you two. Great job! There are so many great nuggets of information here.
Philippine, dey always phite but neber weeen

Great video FOLKS!! Always a pleasure to see your vlog on a weekly basis! Been a follower and fan since the VW van days!! Greetings from the shores of Lake Huron, Ontario!! Safe travels!! BTW Nikki!! As I remember, you were a beautician many years ago!! See what you can do with your better half's "BEDHEAD"!! Stay safe and thanks for your ongoing efforts!! GIDDYUP!!
I’d watch you two if you talked about the inside of a tennis ball. Love the show.
I was curious about this, thanks for the info!
You did an exceptional job of making this entertaining.
I just think having "Bikini" on the back of your boat looks really cool.
Even if the actual Atoll is a bit radioactive still... LOL
Warm winds and safe travels hello from Florida namaste 🙏 ❤️
I wonder the exact same thing. Think Jason is a ham so maybe he can answer this.
Great explanation. This illustrates the complications of blue water sailing, and the many decisions yo face. Thank you.
See you on the next one.
first cashew processing, now boat registration/insurance. this channel is becoming as randomly educational as a wikipedia session 😄
While I thoroughly enjoy your videos about exotic destinations and unsurpassed scenic views, it's videos like these that set your channel apart from many others I've seen. As someone who is going to retire on a cat and be a full time cruiser, I appreciate the honesty and straightforward explanations of really pertinent information. Keep living your best lives and thank you for allowing all of us to share in your daily goings on.
While your videos are always entertaining, and I have no intention (or means) of buying a boat in the foreseeable future, I watched to the end strictly out of "Curiosity".
Figured there would be questions about your Bikini registration. I guessed insurance would be one answer and you filled in the blanks very clearly. Love following both of you. Fair winds and wonderful adventures!
As in most things, follow the money.
Another great video. Sundays with the Wynns are always enjoyable.
1:19 TAXES! That's it.
Exactly
...and insurance.
Oh wow I'm excited!! Just looked up your position 2pm may 21st, and you are right off the beach of my wifes home. An hour or 2 ahead of you, Campomanes Bay is a stunning anchorage, hope you are heading there for the night. You will enjoy beautiful sunrise coming up over island there. Guess I'll see in future video.
Excessive taxes and regulations suck the joy out of life.
I love how neat and clean your boat is!
Not surprising…It always comes down to money! Enjoy!!!
I fast forwarded... not planning on buying a yacht, but watch your video's. Very informative for those who are...
A whole episode to say for money savings?
Seems more like Risk v reward. Risk of insurers of US flagged vessels dropping coverage due to the litigious nature of the US. Also ease and simplicity of paperwork with ensuring that they were in the top few well regarded registries. Just my opinion that many in the US would be surprised that the US in not at the top of that list.
There was a lot more than cost discussed.
Interesting , Thank You . I agree so many things to know and remember, and NOT covered Anywhere else.
AG 1 sorry it has wheat grass in it l. You cannot digest wheat grass that is food we don’t have enough stomachs for, like a cow. Go to pub med and research wheat grass. Waste of your money.
As the tricolon of real estate is location, location, location; The three requisites of developing engaging and original material on this particular online platform must be content, content, content. In this endeavor, enhanced by candid commentary and winsome smiles, the Wynns excel in brilliant execution.
Given the state of the world the last few years I think not having a USA flag makes you safer
Why?
I'm not going sailing but I enjoyed the explanation of registering a boat. Why, because I like you. Everything you two do interests me. It's not what I do, I have an interesting life but it's not like your life and that is what I like in watching you.
