    Great video. I must have missed the last video. When I calculate how much is in a trailer. I just figure out the cubic feet then divide by 180 because it is log form. It comes out plus minus 4%. Another way is to weigh the load. If you know what your tare is you can cross reference the species chart.

    A split cord delivered and seasoned in my area is typically between 2-275 dollars. I had a guy bring me about a cord and a half for the price of one and I think I paid him 225 per load so 450 bucks for about 2.5-3 cords of real nice firewood. 4-500 for a cord of wood split is crazy. But different markets I guess. I’m in southern central area of NY btw.

    Good morning Adam, nice episode, this experiment allows us to see the work involved in creating baskets of firewood from logs that are less than perfect for optimal processing. It seems like a lot of work for a less than optimal profit for the value added time spent. It also allows you to diversify and broaden your customer base and supply what some customers are interested in, with confidence of knowing the value you are offering to them. It all comes down to know your customers/market/ your product offerings. Smart business decision.☺️👍👍👍

    They make logging tape measures that you can use to estimate the cordage of a log. It measures circumference and length. Pretty cool. Also those logs with weird grain and stuff have more BTU/cord so I'd say the trailer full isn't a bad deal.

    @BType13X2 10 місяців тому

    I wish I could get that much wood as log for 300$ locally around here. Granted I can get wood for free I just have to fell it myself but being able to get that much wood for 300$ is very reasonable considering people are selling truck loads of wood not trailer loads for around 800$ up here. So I cut my own and split my own.
    I get the larger totes, usually used food grade ones. Their dimensions are 48" x 46" x 56"= 123,648 cubic inches . a half cord being 48 x 48 x 48 = 110,592 cubic inches. I know I wont fit a proper 3rd row of 16" split wood in 46" but I fill the whole cage and stack up to 60" high and call it a half cord cause it should be damned close at that point. I keep 4 of these in my backyard behind my woodshed and have 3 small wood sheds that hold 1.5 , 2 and 2.66 full cords each.

  • @mbm887
    @mbm887 6 місяців тому

    First... The more you split the quicker it burns... Lets see, mini excavator, tractor and log splitter,
    $50,000 +, your time, diesel and gasoline cost and wear and tear on the equipment... How much does, an actual cord of wood cost, in your area. From what I could see, this was mixed woods, not just oak...

  • @NeighborlyHomestead
    @NeighborlyHomestead 11 місяців тому

    The math isn't adding up. 16" wood by 2 rows doesn't count as 36". 1.33 (16") x 3.5 (42") x 3.83 (46") = 17.83 cu ft x 2 rows = 35.66 cu ft. Good test though to see how much wood was on the trailer.

  • @drackar
    @drackar 10 місяців тому

    Looking at the marks, those are about 11-12 foot logs. So lets assume that's a 12'x4'x2' trailer, piled up to about 3'. That's 144 cubic feet of logs, assuming it's full, given there are some 11's in there... call it 130 cubic feet. Just on that, alone, you know it's more than a cord. Unless those logs are MASSIVELY twisted, there's no way they are accounting for more air than would be in a split cord. generally, splitting wood makes it take up more room, not less. Now, I've seen more trailers that are actually 5' wide than 4', but purely for basic cord math, it's a easy assumption to work with.
    So you're starting out with more than a full cord of log. Anyone saying you're under a cord for that just doesn't understand how any of this works to begin with.

  • @tlbfarm4473

Major savings and you stated you would deliver it -come on! I have a saw and log splitter - so I would be good to go. Of course, I know delivery to Michigan is out of the question - LOL! I think you were being a little optimistic with your tape measure readings. You didn't fill the space between the two rows in the baskets, and you were measuring the baskets not the stacked wood. Shame you didn't have an attachment on the thumb of the excavator to split them would save you handling the logs so much

    You made me laugh about the heat. Starting in mid-June of this year, we had a bunch of severe Thunderstorms. It seemed like they were coming every 18 hours for a couple of weeks. So naturally, there was oak laying everywhere. For weeks I'd drive around my town with my saw and load my truck. (I also helped several old folks clean up their tarps in the process.) Then I rented a splitter in July and split it all over s weekend. June and July in Mississippi. Air Temps in the 90s with heat indexes of over 110°. I would be so sweaty that none of my clothes would be dry exactly like I had jumped in a pond. So I feel you.
    Anyway, this is a great video from a production standpoint. Your use of time-lapse, camera angles, background music, but also suspense makes for something quite entertaining.
