Simon and Garfunkel was a plea to reconnect with each other and disconnect from the technology of the time, TV. Disturbed's version is a raging scream, that we haven't listened and fallen farther into the technology in our hands, and have reached a point we don't speak to each other, yet we still communicate. The Sounds of Silence!
David was classically trained as a Cantor which is a member of the Jewish Temple that sings the prayers in Hebrew. His grandfather and father were also Cantors as well. He actually didn’t speak to his grandfather for a while bc of his piercings. But beyond religion, his range and really the purity he has is so different than what he is known for. But if you watch his posture, his formation of vowels, breath support, and complete control of his voice it’s really remarkable. I heard him earlier this year on tour and loved it just as much. His value and care he puts into his voice is truly remarkable
Interesting fact: David Draiman was originally trained to be a cantor. This is the person who sings and leads prayer during the service in a synagogue.☮❤Cape Town
They perform Sound of Silence at the end of every performance. He goes from G to A4. It was reported the backstage crew came out to see what was going on and the audience gave them a 10-minute standing ovation. This performance was nominated for a Grammy.
Whether it's Disturbed's live version performed on Conan's show, their studio version, or even the original Simon & Garfunkel version the fact that the words in the song are still relevant today in 2024 as they did when S&G sang it in 1964, speaks volumes about Paul Simon's songwriting abilities.
I was a Huge Simon & Garfunkel listener,& grew up on their music, up to their split. This song put me in tears back when, before I may have fully comprehended its entire meaning, & had a huge, & lasting impact on my life!!! When I came across This version, I was stunned & Thrilled, all at once by the shear power he elevated the arrangement to, & the vocals…just WOOOOW! This song was reflective 60 years ago-Now it’s almost too late. Thank GOD the world has awakened to the madness!!!🥰🙏
There’s one more awesome performance of this song that Draiman did with Myles Kennedy making it a duet as originally done by Simon and Garfunkel. Paul Simon loved it! This one I love so much not only because of how David Draiman and the rest of disturbed performed it but also the orchestra , especially the tympani which I love.
Agreed 💯! Apparently Disturbed loved it too, because they included that recording on their album Evolution (Deluxe Edition). But I am a huge Disturbed and Myles Kennedy/Alter Bridge fan as well, so naturally I was going to love it. 🤘🏼🤘🏼❤️
This was an absolute fantastic performance... I loved the way you were able to see the different parts as they were added all at the same time that David was singing thru his discomfort (he had the flu)... all resulting in this EPIC performance. If this didn't get some kind of award, it should have... Thank you for bringing it. I appreciate your response and reaction.
I agree with the way you described the difference between the emotional effect of the original S&G version and Disturbed's studio/video version. This performance is like the bridge that connects and intertwines the emotional impact of each of those versions. Great performances all! 🤘
I saw them in concert in 2016. They sang this and their others. However this one was so powerful. I still get chills hearing it. I certainly understand your silence after the ending because it is so very powerful & emotional. Outstanding job.
I do love the official video of Disturbed's cover of 'Sound of Silence', but I have to say the live version on the Conan O' Brien show in 2016 is phenomenal, and I've watched it many times. Again, as with the video version, I have goosebumps, chills, you name it, every time, it's fantastic with the orchestra, and David Draiman's voice is just incredible, he has such a range in his vocals. I was watching an interview that he did a while ago and he explained that he had a lesion or growth on his vocal chords at that time so it is ultra amazing that he managed to sing that night at all. What a trooper and what an awesome performance he gave, one of the best ever, in my opinion. Thanks for your reaction Anthony, I could see that you were really blown away by this, I felt exactly the same the first time I saw it, it's just epic.
This is an incredible performance isn't it Anne? Hope you are doing well, will try and write more this weekend. Fighting friggin migraine last two days..
..I personally have listened to this many , many times...watching him sing this just effects you more...his voice and the control, the way he sings the words, you feel it in your soul...seriously one of the most commanding performances....glad you decided to watch this one....
I agree. Just the thought of how it feels to see those 10,000 fists in the air is such a rush. I think that may be why they haven't done a video for it, though. Maybe they want to leave it to each person to imagine it for themselves, so they can "feel" that for themselves.
The Dutch singer Henk Poort did do a cover of this song on the Beste Zangers show, In Belgium there is a like wise show called Liefde voor muziek. But you should also listen to that one, an opera singer doing Disturb.....
The powers that be auto-tuned David's performance in post-production. Needless to say, he was NOT happy about that. Of all people, even sick, his voice should never be meddled with, period.
Liked your take on heading to the record store on release dates. Tower Records brings back so many good memories. Progress isn't always progress. This is one of those covers that makes you wonder what you just saw or heard. This is what excellence looks and sounds like.
This is probably my all time favorite live performance and since you mentioned Fred Durst, the Live version of Outside with him and Aaron Lewis from Staind is probably my 2nd favorite if you haven't checked it out. Very raw performance and you get to really hear Aarons brilliant voice as well
The difference between the studio version and the live version is quite distinct. The studio version is great, but obviously intended for an audience. The live version on the other hand is intimate, a one on one discussion, full of emotion and feeling and barely suppressed anger. As others have said, the original by Simon and Garfunkel is a friendly warning, but David's interpretation is full of frustrated anger. I feel like the song is even more relevant now than it was when it was first written. Society has changed, and taken the concepts of isolation and pushed them to an extreme.
Yeah, I like this one better too and I grew up listening to the Simon & Garfunkel version. For me it doesn't hold up to the emotion David brought to the song.. I'm in my 70's and Disturbed led me to metal like Ren led me to rap and hip hop. Never too old to learn.
There’s currently a version going round on the radio here in the Netherlands with a beat under it. Reminded me not to listen to the radio. To me it’s, at best, ruining the powerful buildup of this song which is a key element of the goosebumps. At worst? Let’s not get into that rant 😉 Thanks for your reaction to the ‘kippenvelversie’!
G'day mate If your interested in a powerful rasp voice look this aussie artist up I'll give you 2 one when young the 2nd in he's 50s and as powerful Look up cold chisel Titled wild thing live performance last stand version Its older version but the performance is as much as the voice 2nd one jimmy barnes and Joe bonamassa Titled Stone cold amazing vocals and two amazing guitar solo's as well musians The singer is jimmy barnes a Australian rock sole singer Ive been posting om BP comments so if you like you maybe able to show him something new You will get alot of hits from Aussie normally when their played depending on wether site get recommended by app Cheers mate 🦘🇦🇺👍
he was sick during this performance & they were ready to have him do a lipsync but he refused & still did an amazing job bringing all the emotions
David was sick as a dog during this performance and burning up with fever, still did an impeccable job
So, are you saying he was "Down With Sickness"?
@@chuckster255 niiiiiice 🤣 yeah I guess he was
Best response I ever read to this song is, Simon & Garfunkle's version was a warning. Disturbed's is full of rage because no one listened.
And if u listen to penatonix's cover its like getting redemption
Simon and Garfunkel was a plea to reconnect with each other and disconnect from the technology of the time, TV. Man, just imagine getting tickets to see a talk show and you get blessed with THIS!
David was classically trained as a Cantor which is a member of the Jewish Temple that sings the prayers in Hebrew. His grandfather and father were also Cantors as well. Same as Neil Diamond.... guess them Cantor's are pretty good :)
This song makes me so emotional. Anyone else?
Yes!
My goosebumps had goosebumps. So powerful, such emotional intensity, truly moving!
Interesting fact: David Draiman was originally trained to be a cantor. This is the person who sings and leads prayer during the service in a synagogue.☮❤Cape Town
His father and grandfather were cantors too.
It's a singing tradition over 1,000 years older than "classically trained."
Every time I hear him sing this song, I get chills!
They perform Sound of Silence at the end of every performance.
He goes from G to A4.

Your 30 seconds of stunned silence is perhaps the most eloquent reaction I've seen.
I was a Huge Simon & Garfunkel listener,& grew up on their music, up to their split. I think I listened to this version at least 100 times and now while listening it still give me the goosebumps!!!
I saw Disturbed perform this song at one of their shows and it was beyond amazing!!
It's like with acoustic when it's stripped down and it's just the bare basics and that's when you get the realness of it all.
You need to check out Disturbed featuring Ann Wilson of Heart singing Don’t Tell Me. Ann is in her 70s and is still a rock goddess

There comes a moment in this song where you stop listening and just experience it.
I don’t think I breathed until it was over! What a soul stirring performance!❤
The greatest live performance of a cover ❤
This and Heart's version of Stairway to Heaven. Both magical
I was watching Conan that night and I was completely stunned by this. I love the original, but this is something extra special.
This was an absolute fantastic performance... he was seated during this entire performance....such a powerful voice....

This is the best version yet. Loved it live. 🔥

@@Jules-um4yy Sorry to hear that, Jules, I've sent you an email, you take it easy now and I'll hear from you again when you're feeling better. 😊😊
The Goosebumps still creep up on me & take me by surprise 😶
So glad you Reacted to this. BP has said he hadn’t seen the Conan version.
BP did a reaction to the Conan version 8 months ago. He should probably check it out again.
He was sick during this show too!
102 degree temperature with the flu
This was is one of the covers of a century. It was so well executed 🖤🖤🖤
Your reaction at the end is everyone. Spot on.
..I personally have listened to this many , many times...watching him sing this just effects you more...his voice and the control, the way he sings the words, you feel it in your soul...seriously one of the most commanding performances....glad you decided to watch this one....
So glad you didn't pause. Thanks
Awesome reaction! I get goosebumps everytime I hear this.
The emotion in this performance is visceral. You can feel it through the screen. David Draiman is easily my favorite vocalist.
Yes indeed. I have heard this about 100 times. Goosebumps every time. Thanks for your reaction. Luv from Australia 🎼❤️🎼❤️🎼❤️
Stunned silence says so much. Beautiful, powerful, and epic is correct.
David dramun is an incredible vocalist and doesn't get enough credit, thank you Anthony brother great reaction.
He was sick and he can sing even better live.🤷♀️☝️ This is crazy!🫶💋 Masterpiece! 🙏
This and the video version are my absolute favorite ever ever ever ever ever
As so many others have said, he was really ill during this performance and STILL performed like THIS? Amazing 💜💜💜💜
This song is why I started watching reaction videos. I found you from Ren!
Emotions he bought to this...unreal
did you know that he is trained as a opera singer? and then ask yourself where his amazing voice control comes from
Lovere this remake by Disturbed ❤❤❤❤ greatest screamo voice imo
I love the unique voice too. Doesn’t matter the genre of music.
This is so fabulous, despite the singer being ill, what a great performance.
That was a good Saying I never heard before.Sing like an angel scream like a devil I likey
That was my reaction too!
Before you little wipersnappers were born
SIMON & GARFUNKEL 😮
❤ We’re antiques, man! S & G made it a warning, Disturbed slaps us in the face and says “Wake up!”
Ten Thousand Fists is my favorite Disturbed song. Wish they did a music video for it
I agree. Just the thought of how it feels to see those 10,000 fists in the air is such a rush. I think that may be why they haven't done a video for it, though. Maybe they want to leave it to each person to imagine it for themselves, so they can "feel" that for themselves.
😂 I love the reaction brother seriously thank you.
Id really like to see your reactions to Disturbed's " Hold on to Memories ", " Don't Tell Me " ft. Ann Wilson, "A Reason to Fight".
I've listened to this song ,both versions 300 times at least. 😂
Great reaction..it was awesome
Look up the interview David did with the Charismatic Voice. He talks about what was going on when he did this on Conan
Nice reaction. And keep in mind, as people already mentioned, he was sick that day.
I miss record stores! Video stores too 😂 David Draiman is the bomb.
Disturbed has done 3 great covers. They did Shout by Tears for Fears, Land of Confusion by Genesis, and Sound of Silence by Simon and Garfunkel.
The Dutch singer Henk Poort did do a cover of this song on the Beste Zangers show, In Belgium there is a like wise show called Liefde voor muziek. But you should also listen to that one, an opera singer doing Disturb.....
Another great cover is Chris Cornell - "Nothing Compares 2 U" (Prince cover made famous by Sinead O'Conner) [Live @ SiriusXM] | Lithium
Man, I miss Chester so much.😢
Beautiful ❤
The powers that be auto-tuned David's performance in post-production. Needless to say, he was NOT happy about that. Of all people, even sick, his voice should never be meddled with, period.
Would love to see you react to Disturbed's "Hold On To Your Memories"
You should check out Hey You and Bad Man.
Another unique artist: Tommy Johansson.
Liked your take on heading to the record store on release dates. Tower Records brings back so many good memories. Progress isn't always progress. This is one of those covers that makes you wonder what you just saw or heard. This is what excellence looks and sounds like.
Hit subscribe the minute you mentioned Muse. Love to see you react to Muse Assassin live at the Mayan
This is probably my all time favorite live performance and since you mentioned Fred Durst, the Live version of Outside with him and Aaron Lewis from Staind is probably my 2nd favorite if you haven't checked it out. Very raw performance and you get to really hear Aarons brilliant voice as well
Yes Aaron Lewis covering rascal Flatts what hurts the most and his song lost and lonely incredible.
Let your black peggy brother know that he needs to watch a live version... 5 minutes later.Thank you for doing that
The difference between the studio version and the live version is quite distinct.

I went to record stores to buy albums. Guess I'm old. LOL
❤❤❤❤❤
Also, I hope you do a reaction to this with BP!
They also did a duet of the sound of silence with Miles Kennedy, also an amazing version. ua-cam.com/video/93wGaGFUnTs/v-deo.html
Gotta get Pegasus to do this reaction with ya the next time you see him
We were right, right?!!
Brent Smith Shinedown, limp Bizkit cover of behind Blue eyes of the who was amazing check it out.
Yeah, I like this one better too and I grew up listening to the Simon & Garfunkel version. For me it doesn't hold up to the emotion David brought to the song.. I'm in my 70's and Disturbed led me to metal like Ren led me to rap and hip hop. Never too old to learn.
I would be interested in your reaction to Dio with Black Sabbath doing Sign of the Southern Cross.
Just watched BP one now onto this one ☺️
Man, I've never listened to both versions one after the other and can 100% say the Live is much better
Get BP on it for sure
