I think knowing the original as well as many of us do, makes this version so much better. It's a different kind of appreciation.
Few people made the comment that the S&G original was a warning, and this version is the response of people not heeding that warning, 50 years later. Thought it was fitting... also that we always enjoyed listening to the original, but in Disturbeds version we hear the lyrics.
@@kevinlangley3782 Are you saying you can't hear the lyrics in the original? This version makes me wanna vomit.
@@Dude_Slick the opposite for me, simon and gar's version is ass this is so much better.
@@kevinprzy4539 Everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Yours is wrong, but you're entitled to it.
@@Dude_Slick Yours is wrong kid
A classically trained voice. There's a fair amount of them among metal singers, but you don't always hear them using this side of their voice.
One step beyond just classically trained...he was a damn CANTOR.
Metal fans are just like any other type of music fan…. We demand the musicians be accomplished and have real talent with no exceptions.
He was actually trained to be a Jewish Cantor
He has like 5 octave range
Not classically trained, but you’d think so!
can you just imagine being in the audience that day and not expecting this...
I can imagine.
can you imagine that AND also knowing who they are AND heard this from them before?????????
Everyone is blown away by this performance, rightfully so, and one of the most common comments I hear is "I did not expect that from a heavy metal band". My beef with that comment is this- first and foremost, they are professional MUSICIANS!! Musicians that have a preference for the heavy metal genre, but musicians to their core. What do musicians do? They make music! All kinds of music! Disturbed is a group of musicians, so do not be blown away just because you think they are just a heavy metal band. Be blown away by the sheer talent and execution- I know I was!
This is the perfect cover for this song.
David was actually sick with the flu when he did this performance and still sounds amazing
AND STILL SOUNDS AMAZING #incrediblytalented
Yeah, even knowing it, we can noly guess it come very few times, like the need of taking his breath a bit more often
There's actually more to that story. When Conan's staff found out he was sick, they offered to auto-tune his mike for him, because they thought he wouldn't be able to hit his notes. David refused, because if given the choice, he would prefer to fail honestly than succeed artificially. They auto-tuned his mike anyway. He was really pissed when he found out. In fact, I believe he said that he would never perform on Conan's show again.
@@peterseaboldt1250 Yep I've heard the same. Not really an issue anymore since Conan is off the air I suppose, but either way. It's a really rude thing to do in my opinion either way though. The crowd probably would've loved it anyway, but I reckon not having people adhere to your wishes like that would feel pretty shitty.
you said that wrong. He was down with the sickness.
The meme came from the original version of this song, this one is a cover (the best I've found, I must say). The original one was made by Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel, actually that's the one that sounds on the memes. Great performance by Disturbed on this one
Did you know the sound of silence is a warning song?Do you know the bible in Revelation speaks about people making a (image of the beast from the sea,and that this image will be given a spirit causing those without the mark of the beast to be killed)?this image of revelation(made by humans)are the same as the neon(god)warned against in this song.According to the song people make ,bow to prayed to this neon god they made.(the image in Revelation),this is a prophetic song.
Paul Simon himself thinks it's the best cover too lol.
I’m sure there are 30 comments without reading any telling you how sick David was. I’ve watched 100 reactions on this song and it never fails. The guy can sing in a coma better than 90% of the singers out there.
No matter how many times i hear this song (especially this version), it sends a chill down my spine and raises the hair on my arms! Just an incredible perfomance
It really was/is.
I am an 81 year-old grandma and I love Disturbed ... this now is my favorite of all their music, but I love everything they have done ... too bad more old people like me don't appreciate all good music ... they seem to get stuck and won't listen to other stuff ... they sure are missing out...
I love everything from the big bands of the 30s and 40s
Old time rock and roll... not a giant fan of a lot of the music considered "folk" music.... love the big hair bands... on up to music of today. And Love Desturbed!!!!
God Bless You, Forever Young. Music is not about age but you’re very right, too many people get stuck in one place and their minds shut down. That’s when they begin to grow old.
When metal bands do songs like this you realise they are all amazing vocalists! They are better than you realise. Super talented! Disturbed music has evolved over the years to stuff much better than when they first started in my opinion.
I don’t think most people understand how incredible that man’s range is.
Incredible is the only way to describe it
This is an excellent cover of Sound Of Silence. Very different feeling than the original by Simon & Garfunkel, but excellent nonetheless. My favorite Disturbed song is "The Vengeful One", & I love the official video for it.
Not Sound, it's "The" Sound of Silence, sorry for coming across petty but it is a title/name.
I prefer "The Animal."
@@graciefolden2359wow I didn't understand that.
Written by Paul Simon in 1964. Originally performed by Simon and Garfunkel.
“One of the biggest hang-ups we have today is the inability of people to communicate, not only on an intellectual level, but on an emotional level as well. So you have people unable to touch other people, unable to love other people. This is a song about the inability to communicate. It’s called, “The Sound of Silence”. - Paul Simon 1966
You can see/hear him say this before they begin their performance here:
ua-cam.com/video/DczvzKzNLbU/v-deo.html
I believe Paul actually said he likes this cover better then his own original version.
The first time I heard Down With The Sickness, I knew we had a rare talent within our midst. That was back at the beginning of the new century. Good to see that they are still on the radar of some.
I heard the original when it was first aired on the radio - blew us all away - and never dreamed it could be covered successfully, but I really do love this version.
This performance is absolutely nuts. I love seeing people react to it. I can't ever get over how good this is.
I think his training as a Hazzan (Synagogue Cantor) in his early years allows him to tap into a spirituality related to this song that really touches people. Their song Hold onto memories (OMV) also taps into this.
David has such a clear, warm tone. And wonderful control. Such fantastic musical talent.
The fact he got the blessing of Simon and Garfunkel for this cover. But I knew he had this voice long before this cover happened from the last song on the first album Darkness
No, memes came from original song by Simon and Garfunkel. This is newer then that and so far, one of the best versions of that song. Truly amazing piece.
Fun fact: the version of this song that most people think of as the original is not actually the original. So the song first appeared as an acoustic guitar duet on Simon & Garfunkel's debut album, "Wednesday Morning, 3 A.M." an album that flopped so hard commercially that the group actually broke up. A couple years later the song randomly started getting some radio play in Boston & Florida (in effect, it went viral) & that led the record company to release a remixed version which included a drum track & electric instruments. That remixed version is the version that got famous & it's the version that was featured in the Dustin Hoffman movie "The Graduate". Simon & Garfunkel were never even informed that it was being remixed until the song came out & it's now arguably their most famous song (it's a toss-up between this, Bridge Over Troubled Water & The Boxer).
I'm not sure they ever played it live like the famous version. I'm not sure I've heard the original recording but I've heard a few live recordings and I like them better than the famous version.
I seldom watch the show but happened to have caught this night. I felt honored to have heard this on that night. The rest of the night I was rewinding to listen to it again and again. Epic and I am glad that people are still appreciating this performance.
There is something extraordinary with the singers in Metal Music. In my mind you can find many of worlds best singers in Metal.
I have been learning that through this journey. Absolutely amazing musicians and vocalists!
@@rayactions Will Ramos will be fun
Love it. He's got a really powerful voice for this cover
Hi. Michael from Australia again. When Disturbed did this cover I told my friends to check it out. They could not believe that a Metal band could turn the song into such a good song.
David was extremely ill with the flu when this was performed, the dude is an incredibly talented stud. Simon and Garfunkel put the song in our brains, David put it in our hearts.
One of my favorite Disturbd songs is The Light, it has a great message and the video gets the emotions going.
You are jumping through all of the reaction hits! Thank you for the journey.
Best cover of this Simon & Garfunkel classic ever David Draiman's vocals are just sublime and the original music video for Disturbed's version is just brilliant too.
The original was like a dream that haunts you throughout the day.
This version is the nightmare that wakes you up in the middle of the night, sweating and unable to go back to sleep.
“IT” actually did not come from this,, lol. This is originally a Simon and Garfunkel song which came out in the late 1960s! Good luck on your channel, digging the contents so far.🤘🏼🤘🏼
Hahah I was told that after and had a full on BONK moment for all of you to see hahah glad you enjoyed!
Glad you reacted to this, I was definitely going to recommend this one 🤪
You really ought to check out Disturbed's Hold On To Memories, but keep some tissues handy, cuz it hits hard. Do the live concert version, or a double reaction of the official video followed immediately with the concert versions. Amazing song.
*EDIT* Also, since I didn't see anyone else mention it, David (the lead singer) was sick as a dog when they did this performance. So much so that his band mates told him that the only way they'd let him perform is if was sitting down. And there was a very, very brief moment where the studio inserted some autotune, and he was PISSED about it.
This one blew my mind the first time I heard it as well. I'm like you, I listened to a few Disturbed songs from the early 2000s but that was pretty much it.
Speaking of Phil Collins, Disturbed does a GREAT cover of Genesis's Land of Confusion.
I love all Simon & Garfunkel's songs. The lyrics in their songs are so beautiful & Art Garfunkels voice really make you feel the song.
I agree, but this version sucks
So amazing, heard David was down with the sickness that night, flu or something, love your reactions!
Hahaha LOOOOL and thank you! Glad you enjoyed!
He did have the flu that night. That's why he's sitting down.
Best performance in Conan history, in my opinion
Every time I hear this cover, it brings a tear to my eye, & get goosebumps. This version is so good, & might be one of the greatest covers of all time.
He took singing lessons as a child and was an operatic baritone. He had to relearn how to sing after vocal chord surgery in the mid 2000's, and received advice from Matt Heafy of Trivium on developing his voice further in the months prior to Disturbed recording The Sound of Silence. His voice is always evolving.
He was actually sick during this performance. Mind blowingly awesome
Great reaction to Disturbed's The Sound of Silence. There is a good reason it has almost a billion views combined. It is just a wonderful re-imagining of a classic pop song.
The words are Paul Simon's, but this orchestration was so good it has been covered by myriad other artists.
This is one the four performances that I consistently look for new reactions to.
The other three that are popular reaction mainstays and just great performances are:
Dimash Kudaibergen: SOS.
Live, on Singer 2017, or at Slavic Bazaar(2018). Arguably the greatest male singer alive today, perhaps that has ever lived.
Marcelito Pomoy: The Prayer. In the Wish Studio. Another unique singer with an amazing and unusual talent.
The less research on this one the better, but he's one in a billion.
Morisette Amon: Akin Ka Na Lang.
Also in the Wish Studio.
Another unprecedented voice, with an amazing range and a classic voice.
The greatest cover song IMO is when Marco singing for Nightwish did a tribute Nightwish version of Pink Floyd's High Hopes.... though The Warning w/ a famous guest singer did a great variation of Enter Sandman.
That’s probably my second greatest cover. This is definitely my first, what they did with the sound of silence.
Marco Hietala singing ‘High Hopes’ is an amazing cover.
this guy was sick during this performance .... KUDOS !
Without a doubt, Draiman's voice puts metal vocalists right up there with anyone that "would dare". BTW, it's pretty awesome to see your fresh reactions as well. Some "vocal coaches" stop every 5 seconds, to talk about themselves and how THEY would sing an iconic song (OK so why hasn't anyone heard of you?). I like your take on things so far. Keep doing what you're doing :)
Disturbed also did the cover of Land Of Confusion by Genesis originally sung by Phil Collins ^^.
This is a cover song originally done bye Simon and Garfunkel, I love it it totally reminds me of my mom and usually brings a tear to my eye. A beautiful song, thanks for sharing
Absolutely moving reaction to an absolutely overwhemling cover. Thank you.
He has a sort of rounded resonance that reaches right into your soul
Disturb did this song so much justice from the original
Shinedown does an amazing acoustic cover of simple man you would like. Powerful vocals.
Simon and Garfunkel must be proud. even I couldn''t expect the stuff to be so good.high 5....
As a child, thanks to my mother, I listened to this song sung by Simon and Gafunkel and I always liked this song. I heard this performance a few years ago. And in my humble opinion, it is much better than the original, which is also delicious. Here it is a growing tension from the first notes. A wonderful voice... And a very eloquent title... Great song, brilliant performance. Unfortunately, this song will always be associated with the events of a few years ago, when during a WOSP concert, the mayor of Gdańsk was murdered on stage. This song performed by Disturbed was a tribute from the city's citizens to the president of Gdańsk.
Great great song. Mind-blowing!!!
PS. Sorry for my English :)
They also did a fantastic job on the arrangement.
Beautiful rendition…you should react to Pentatonix doing this…
So happy you did this live version and not the video. Videos can be fun and all but to see what singers can really do it has to be live if possible/available (bearing in mind things like copyright blocks).
Still gives me goosebumps
Very good reaction you could tell you enjoyed and loved every minute of that
Stupify is my first love from this band. The lead singer wrote it about the racism he faced for dating a Latino girl. He's Jewish and I believe he lived in Israel as a child. Amazing vocalist! Amazing band as well. The guitarist is highly under rated. His solos give me chills.
Love that one. My theme song from them is Divide. If you haven't given it a listen yet, go for it.
Hey beautyfull!!! This is an amazing cover. Good reaction
Be sure to watch the original black and white video released in 2015. I get goosebumps! Loved the original 1964 Simon & Garfunkel. Still have the original vinyl. The video is the best cover ever.
Great reaction! A beautiful cover of the Simon and Garfunkel classic.
Glad I’ve found your channel early on in its infancy. (Hi Ren was recommended to me)
Think you would enjoy Ferocious Dog “The Hope”
Look forward to more reactions
Person A: "oh that song was lovely, i need to listen to more."
Me: oh boy i gotta watch the reaction
My favorate song of all time. Im 68 this is by far my favorate rendition.
Davids Voice in the Sound of Silence embraces you like arms you feel save in. You just want to tug you in with his voice and cuddle.
Great reaction . Love, love your attitude! Lol genuine surprises.
Just don't play poker... You will give yourself away. Lol 😂
Absolutely amazing performance , David has a very unique voice🤪
Absolutely!
He was just coming off of having the flu and he didn't want to disappoint this live performance nailed it Disturbed in Myles Kennedy live Houston Texas performance with the sound of silence
I loved this song until I read he used auto tune even on the Conan show.
He had the flu, and was running a 101 degree fever, and didn't like this performance, but its truly amazing
I love the trail off of the vocal effects right at the very end more than anything.
Love your reaction! ❤️🎼🤪🎼
Thank you!! 😁
I loved your reaction... ha ha!!!
Disturbed has many great songs and my favorite one is Hold On To Memories. Still if some people want something else Down With The Sickness, Vangeful One and any other is great too. 😉Great reaction! 😃
This is my hands down favorite version of Simon and Garfunkel's "Sound of Silence".
If you are just starting on your Reactions journey, check out John Farnham singing "You're the Voice" and his version of the Beatle's "Help" and then there is Home Free singing "Man of Constant Sorrow" 😁😁😁
David was feeling ill during this performance and he still killed it ! Fucking awesome
a lot of comments mentioning that he was sick as hell, but not many mentioning that the reason he is sooooo adept with his beautiful voice was that he trained as a Cantor.
imagine seeing u react to pentatonix doing "sound of silence" its love!
If you go back to their second album there is a song at the end called Darkness that was the only time, until this cover, that David had done a ballad with the band. It’s a highly underrated song.
Now that you heard of Myles Kennedy from Alter Brige, you MUST check the version of this song with him! It's mind blowing!
Cheers from 🇧🇷💚
Oh this sound has always been in Disturbeds arsenal I can't remember quite if it's the first or second album but at the very end of one of them there's a song called "Darkness" and it's gorgeous
This is amazing...
So Dark and Juicey!! Haunting me to chills!!!
New viewer here!
I don’t know if you’ve listened to any country music. But if not, you should DEFINITELY give it a try.
Oh and I don’t mean the ‘country music’ most people think of nowadays (which is more like country-pop). I mean ACTUAL Country, sit you down tell you a story and teach a life lesson.
Some starting points can be:
*Three Wooden Crosses* -Randy Travis
*Whiskey Lullaby* -Brad Paisley
*He Didn’t Have to Be* -Brad Paisley
*Don’t Take the Girl* -Tim McGraw
*Concrete Angel* -Martina McBride
*I Hope You Dance* -Lee Ann Womack
*Tennessee Whiskey* -Chris Stapleton
*Fire Away* -Chris Stapleton
*Goodbye Earl* -Dixie Chicks
*Hurt* -Johnny Cash
*Why Don’t We Just Dance* -Josh Turner (ok, this one is just for the voice) 👌
I know that’s a lot of requests…but there is a reason True Country is really well-liked
This Song is one of the best covers I ever had heared to. It makes me goosebumps ever when I hear it.
You definitely need to listen to Disturbed's song 'The Light'. That song, like many of Disturbed's other songs are amazing.
I love rock and I love your reactions! Great energy. I know you're new to this, and I'm not a content producer, but I have noticed that as a producer being a non-country fan, yet reviewing country songs, garners a TON of views... Just a thought. I know most of them are crap but there are some gems.
Your reactions are great.
this verion always make me cry , its really good
Chills. Every time.
*pause* "is that where this came from?" the soda i was trying to have came out of my nose thanks alot lol
They did a amazing job with this remake of the original
Simon & Garfunkle's Sound of Silence from the 60s. 😉😁
I can only imagine how much his throat hurt after this with the flu
Since everyone else has commented on his training and voice I’ll point out that he doesn’t have facial piercings, those are jewelry attached to facial hair. Great reaction.
They are!? Interesting! Thank you for letting me know 🫂
@@rayactions They are piercings, called double labret.
Beautiful!
Metal and rock singers are amongst the most skilled vocalists you will ever hear, Floor Jansen, Simone Simon's, David Draiman, Myles Kennedy, Corey Taylor the list just goes on, most of them would blow the pop princes and princesses into the middle of next week, if you want genuine vocal talent in a more mainstream setting then rock and metal is where you go
A voice to make you cry in appreciation
This is a cover. The original was written by Paul Simon and released in 1964 by Simon and Garfunkel.
Have you heard Geoff Castellucci sing this song?? Its amazing as well !! they are both so different but amazing at the same time.
Simon & Garfunkel song 🎶 done beautifully. Paul Simon endorsed this version. One GREAT song.
