This man needs to sing the National Anthem for the Super Bowl. Let’s get Rock n Roll back for everyone to enjoy
I agree! Rock and metal.
You will find a lot if not all heavy metal
Or screamo singers have amazing natural singing voices as they need to have amazing vocal range and control
Great idea!
There was a petition done by “Live Nation”….the largest concert promotion company in the worldddddd for not this years but last years Super Bowl to have him sing the anthem. Millions of people signed it……the NFL paid zero attention
@@nunya6874 Sadly, metal and rock will always be ignored. Megadeth and Testament would blow Mary J Blige off the stage any day.
Disturbed took it to another level! I can't listen to this version without goosebumps
Simon and Garfunkel's version tugs at different emotions, but is still very relevant... People are just wound up so much tighter today than back in 1965...We were really just starting to get a taste of how much the elitists hate us...By now, we've been screwed every which way that we are numb to the outrageous, which is why I believe Disturbed's cover of this song is more "today"...
Every single time!!
. . . And BJ, love your sweet and salty comebacks to your lady, Asia
I’m old school, however I dig Disturbed’s version a lot!
Arguably the best and most powerful cover ever recorded! My mom cried listening to this version. She's 75! I'm 55 and grew up hearing the original version. This version has brought me to tears, dozens of times! The tambour of his voice brings goose bumps to your skin!
I feel nearly the same way as you except my father is soon to be 77, my mother would have been 72 may she rest in peace, and I'm going on 42. However, I have loved this song since the early to mid 80s... (84-88) since I was about 3-8 years old... Simon & Garfunkels harmonies as well as their talent on the guitar were so beautiful. I've heard others cover this song and fell short. I was already familiar with David from Disturbed's early days with their hits Down With the Sickness and Stupify and knew of them as being close to the genre of Heavy Metal, but when I heard him Sing this Song for the first time, I was in awe. Later on I found out that he personally took Opera lessons to help train his vocals to be able to sign with anger as opposed to scream without focus to not damage his vocal cords. And when I went back and listen to him sing it live, I seen the truth in it and for me, he Owns this Song. Not as in the art of writing and creating it, but as in the Execution of It. This is how the song was meant to be done! I love both versions equally, yet I find his version to be the better of the two and that's saying a lot because the original version was already a masterpiece to begin with. Oh and David was sick when he performed this, and he refused "auto tune"!
100% agree
yellow rose
great reaction from your audience, people! excellent in fact. I've been following the reactions ever since this came out, everyone is knocked out by it and full of admiration for that incredible performance. Thanks for being part of this.
Absolutely! And the fact he’s singing it live shows just how incredible his voice is.
David Draiman is classically trained… he is the one and only heavy metal sober artist for over 30 years! ❤
BEAUTIFULLY HAUNTING!!!🔥🔥🔥💯💯💯
Yes! Haunting is the perfect word. His vocal ability is phenomenal 😱
I definitely prefer this version. The lyrics are timeless, but David took them to a new level. 🖤
I love S&G's version as it's one of my favorite songs, however, the way David sang this is how it was meant to be done!
I’m torn. I love the original slightly more but the impact of this version is powerful.
@@skilz8098 I saw someone else comment on another reaction video for this song, the original was the warning about where we were going to go to a bad place. This version is the anger as that warning was not headed by mankind.
I too prefer this cover over the original. That doesn’t happen too often.
Cant stand the autotune messing with his vibrato tbh. Would be perfect without
......and 57 years after Simon and Garfunkel wrote this, it more than holds up today. Brilliant.
he was sick this night too!
And THAT is what a classically trained, Metal Vocalist can do! I get tears in my eyes, and goosebumps over my whole body…… Every time I watch and/or hear this!
David Draiman is Jewish and he was trained as a Cantor(singer) in the Jewish faith
@@mikeroth7080don't tell my ex that'
@@joshuatift4640 LOL
❤❤ his brother is an opera singer ❤❤
Paul Simon said Disturbed owns this song now. He had never commented on a cover before.
One of the most beautiful songs. The live performance of the song is pure and amazing
Simon and Garfunkel were early musical heroes of mine. I admire their original of this song immensely. But I must say that this version is one of the few covers that eclipse the original. This exposes the true power of the lyrics in a way that the original doesn't quite reach!
Amazing there are just no other words for it
That gravely rock voice at the end was amazing
“Simon & Garfunkel’s version represents a warning, while Disturbed’s version represents rage since the warning was ignored.”
Absolutely correct!
LOVE David Draiman & Disturbed!! BEST cover ever!!
I love this cover, David draiman can sing anything 🤘🎸🎶🔥 he was real sick while performing this, hard to believe huh.More awesome disturbed reactions would be Stricken, indestructible, stupify, prayer, inside the fire (brutal/graphic video) A reason to fight & hold on to memories aren't typical of them, but are awesome with an important message 💖💖💖 yas
Not only did he perform it like this while being sick, he also refused auto tune!
Between this and S&G's version.. I would never say one is better than the other. They are both GREAT and so different from one another. ALL the credit to Paul Simon for the amazing lyrics though.
Have you listened to the version by Pentatonix? It is wonderful.
@@MariaGolay Yes it is, I love PTX, but just as much I love the original from S&G, however, from all whom I have heard done this song, David sang it the way it was meant to be done! Thank You S&G for writing and creating such a masterpiece and thank you David for executing it with perfection!
@@MariaGolay Paul Simon did not write the lyrics for this song. He found the words on a subway in NYC by an unnamed poet. He just added music to it.

You are mistaken or trolling. Either way, I found this for you:
“In an interview with Terry Gross of National Public Radio (NPR), Paul Simon explained how he wrote the song while working at his first job in music: "It was just when I was coming out of college. My job was to take the songs that this huge publishing company owned and go around to record companies and see if any of their artists wanted to record the songs. I worked for them for about six months and never got a song placed, but I did give them a couple of my songs because I felt so guilty about taking their money. Then I got into an argument with them and said, 'Look, I quit, and I'm not giving you my new song.' And the song that I had just written was 'The Sound of Silence.' I thought, 'I'll just publish it myself,' and from that point on I owned my own songs, so that was a lucky argument.
I think about songs that it's not just what the words say but what the melody says and what the sound says. My thinking is that if you don't have the right melody, it really doesn't matter what you have to say, people don't hear it. They only are available to hear when the sound entrances and makes people open to the thought. Really the key to 'The Sound of Silence' is the simplicity of the melody and the words, which are youthful alienation. It's a young lyric, but not bad for a 21-year-old. It's not a sophisticated thought, but a thought that I gathered from some college reading material or something. It wasn't something that I was experiencing at some deep, profound level - nobody's listening to me, nobody's listening to anyone - it was a post-adolescent angst, but it had some level of truth to it and it resonated with millions of people. Largely because it had a simple and singable melody."
Simon and Garfunkle were brilliant lyricists. Go back to anything they recorded, to appreciate their talent and intelligence.
once in a great great wjile a singer will come along that touches you to your very soul.in the 70s and 80s it was freddy mercury .now in the 2000s we have david.such a powerful powerful voice.
David is a classically trained Jewish Cantor. He was also very sick during this performance
David has one of the most beautiful powerful voices ever. It’s hauntingly beautiful ✨
sole shaking. after seconds you look in and that's the scariest place you can go. his voice take you so deep, it make you freak out abit. love fear and hope in one song. masterpiece
Paul Simon is a genius song writer!! This song is over 50 years old and seems like it was written just yesterday. Damn that's good!!!
In my younger days and yes I'm 46 I came up on Disturbed down with The sickness but I got into him and I listen to everything they did during that time and I saw this in them we all did all of us that love them and everyone around us told us that they were this or that or the other thing and I am so grateful to Dave draiman in the band Disturbed because they proved us right they were who we knew they were and finally they showed you people who they were who they are what they're capable of quit judging us on what we fall into because of where we are when we are and start looking at what we could be cuz those of us in that hole were looking at you that damn way cuz we know what you could be and we're hoping for the damn best because you are our future
chills...down your fuckin spine....every...damn...time Flawless
These lyrics are very personal to David as a Jewish man. He was trained within the synagogue. This man makes this song his own in every way....he was not well when he appeared on Conan... but in his own inimitable way David owns this!!! THANK YOU both for not interjecting every few seconds... David's talent / voice speaks for itself and is the most emotional rendition of this song ever.
I saw an interview where Dave said that Simon & Garfunkel did the song perfect , there's no way they can make it better , so they just did it in their style to make their version of it . He also mentioned that Paul Simon contacted him after he heard their version and thought it was fantastic . Both versions are great for sure .
I'm a boomer and i swear this is better than the original! 1 of the best covers I've ever heard
Hello from small Baltic state of Latvia. 🇱🇻 this song is masterpiece.✌
Simon and Garfunkel are great but Disturbed went to another level. Check out bridge over troubled water by Simon and Garfunkel then go to Johnny Cash version. Also check out Hurt by Johnny Cash. Sometimes a cover of a great original can bring a new dimension.
tremendous presentation, you have to see Disturbed Hold on to Memories [Official Live Video] the song and the video are super emotional.
Disturbed brought this masterpiece to another level and added such emotion and a dramatic detail to it. This version really tells the story of the song. Still, with much love and appreciation to Simon and Garfunkel for releasing a great piece.
Sometimes the recordings are clearer. But this live version is so much better. He makes me hold my breath. And the audience waits until the entire band finishes the last note before they applaud. Awesome!
Simon & Garfunkel sang a song and told a story, Disturbed turned it into a full on Warning ❤️❤️❤️
I'm from the time of Simon and Garfunkel but for me I just love Disturbed's version
Draiman just commands your attention with this performance. Their newer song Hold on to the Memories is beautiful and worth a listen. Stricken is another one of my favorites. So many great songs by this band...
I’m so glad you did this version to see his emotions and watch their video because you’ll see the meaning of this song and when I seen this performance I’m now hooked on Disturbed
Check out his live performance with Myles Kennedy. If anyone ever wondered what an 80s ballad is, it is that. Men had it going on in the 80s..
His voice helps get the message out about people not getting what's going on around them and not doing anything about it.
My favourite cover ever. Wonderful.
Such a great cover. They own that song now and he was so sick during that performance. Beautiful! Great reaction
This might be the 50th time I’ve seen this video and it flat-out blows me away every time. Don’t want to confuse things more but as you know, the original was a duet. There’s a live concert version of this with David and Myles Kennedy. Watch that to see two vocal masters putting everything they have into this. It’s amazing.
This version was amazing and beautiful. What's more amazing is that he had the flu when he did this performance. Imagine (if possible) how it would of been different if he wasn't sick. I can hardly fathom! I'm glad you decided to do this live version! ^.^ If you'd like another song of Disturbed's that is beautiful, yet has the rock feel to it too try " A Reason To Fight "
You get the best of both worlds, 😀
Sad thing is that David was sick when they performed this on Conan and still sounded amazing.
Awesome .. I haven't heard this is years .. since Simon and Garfunkel.
Disturbed's version gave me goosebumps and had me in tears at the same time. David Draiman is such an amazing singer.
interesting backstory to the David dramond's version: the rest of the band wanted to make the cover heavier, and David insisted it remain plain, honest, and clean.
I loved this song from Simon & Garfunkel since I was a young kid in the 80's. I've heard others trying to cover this song and they failed in comparison to the original. When I first heard David Draiman sing this, I was floored and in awe! I was already familiar with his band's early days with their hits Down With the Sickness and Stupify. When I heard him sing this, I knew him as a heavy metal artist but never knew how well he could really sing, and his talent is unbelievable. From that moment on, I still love the original as it's one of my all time favorite songs, I fell in love with his rendition to the point that I agree with Simon when he told Draimin you now basically Own This Song!!! His emotions through his voice is how the song was meant to be. This is saying a lot for Simon & Garfunkel were so good that to go a level beyond them is not an easy feat. I love this song, I love the original, and I definitely love this version just as much as I love the fact that you guys reacted to it. Nothing but love to the fam!!!
Beautiful post.
I absolutely luuuuv that performance ....on top of it all he was really SICK but went on anyway!!! Yes the style is out of their wheel house BUT his voice is perfect for this cover of Simon and Garfunkel song from the 60s their's was more folksy. I luv both versions and we all know Paul Simon went on to drop some fantastic solo stuff! In my opinion almost every remake I have ever heard...the right artist somehow came along to do it...its freakin crazy!
Absolutely!!!
So much power. Soooo many interpretations of this song 👌🏼😍
Loved this performance. So powerful. The thing I’ll say is that the video version and imagery tied to the messaging in the video version is a BIG DEAL. These words have a profound message. They are not a mistake.
Listen to this song so many times omg this version is amazing 👏 😍
One of my favorite singers. He had a cold when he did this!
The official video of this song is my favorite. I think you all did just the audio the first time. Even though this live clip is great, the official video is very artistic & extremely well made. Even if you don't want to do a 3rd reaction video of this song check it out on your own time. You'll get chills!
David Draiman the singer here was actually sick during this performance. Amazing vocals..
Both reflect the times
I grew up listening to this song by Simon & Garfunkel & have always loved it. I had a lot of their records. Many people have covered this song. Disturbed's version is a much darker take on this song. Peter Hollens & Tim Foust (from Home Free) do a great version of this song. Their voices complement each other perfectly & the layering of their voices is amazing. I hope you will check it out.
The poet in that man’s voice is incredible
Very happy I stumbled across this channel. Asia and BJ are my new two favorite people ever. I have literally just sat and watch 20 videos lol.
I love both versions bc they are so different but I love this version the best of Disturbed remake
Good on you, for listening to this recommended live version, this is only one reason that this old lady listens and watches you two very cool cats! Keep up the good work!
Disturbed hizo el mejor cover de esta hermosa canción, ellos son geniales y David tiene una súper voz🔥
Asia's face says it all.. he has an amazing voice..
I can never hear this song enough, sooo great!! He was sick @ the time.
Disturbed has some great songs as well, that really shows Davids range and their musically. Remember,Prayer,The vengfull one, etc..
This powerful rendition of Simon and Garfunkel's song is shocking. It leaves the listener speechless. Great Job!!
This is obviously older video, but the singer of the band Disturbed, was a trained opera singer when he was younger. That's what everyone says. And he mixed them amazing
Not opera, he was trained as a Cantor
What was really amazing about this performance was he had a cold when he did this on the Conan O'Brien show . But if you want to see someone you'll never forget , watch Lost in your eyes by Jeff Healey .
both beautiful in their own ways - no competition, in my opinion. just different ways of expressing :)
you two are lovely! thank you for your time :)
Disturbed gives The Sound of Silence the life that it deserves.
Beautiful song. David Draiman has amazing vocal range.
When someone can belt out a sound like that while SITTING DOWN......
If it ain't on the page, it ain't on the stage....shout out to Paul Simon! His gifts echo through the ages!
Fun fact he was sick with the flu when he did this show,he's simply amazing
Chills and goosebumps 😱 this a a masterclass vocal performance. Bravo!!👏
Thanks for your reaction! For me, this was the best live cover of a song ever done! :)
I love the original. But as others have said, this is one of the few remakes that I think are even better than the original version. I get chills every time I hear it. This is David's song.
What was so incredible was that David was sick during this performance and still sang so amazingly and he did all of this seated the entire time, which is not easy for singers to do!
You forget this is live until the crowd roars at the end. So good
I read a comment somewhere that Simon and Garfunkel's version was a soft warning of what could happen and Disturb's version is after the warning was not heeded. Made sense to me.
Great song great performance dope reaction
I got goosebumps and tears in my eyes..
I love the effects trail off at the end of the song. Funny how that can be.
I heard Paul Simon talk about this song. He would get these ideas in dreams. And then sit in the dark in the bathroom to just channel the song it would just pour out of this Vision place. So when he says hello darkness my old friend that's this meditative place he would go in the bathroom in the dark. Fascinating. Paul Simon is such a great Lyricist and musician he's a quirky dude though, as most creative people are
I was so excited when I heard you were going to listen again... but disappointed that you didn't actually watch the VIDEO he did for this song. It was so dang POWERFUL! Please, go and watch that version too... even if you don't do a reaction to it. You won't be disappointed.
He is amazing David was really sick at that time he was on that show almost didn't perform but he still nailed it
I prefer both live and studio equally but differently. Live gives you the chance to hear a heavenly voice naturally whilst the studio version with video gives the clear crisp song with the video that is phenomenal snd backs up the singing.
Simon loved this version, he reached out to Disturbed and told them he loved it. He said the song belongs to them now.
He actually had a cold that night! And still sounded stellar!
He had a severe cold the night he’s sang that song! he couldn’t even hardly talk.
I appreciate your honest knowledge of music
I seen this version for the first time goosebumps and cried
Disturbed's rendition is far better to me, it seems it encompasses the feel of the meaning better than the original.
You hear the studio version, you FEEL this version. Love how the young lady seems transfixed throughout the entire performance.
One of the Top Three live performances in music history.
Peace.....
Not only was David s Draiman sick with the flu, he had a cyst on her s vocal cords and still killed it!
Love this version so much. A side note to this performance. He was sick during this performance. That's how great his voice control is.
great live version is when he does it with myles kennedy....great vocals together..
This is a beautiful and powerful song no man can deny 🔥he got real. The words don’t lie. Lies betray the soul. Pain. Love. Life. Life is terminal
The crazy thing is, David Draiman was very sick that night when they performed. He had a high fever and wasn't sure he could do the song!
Live is always best (IMO)... when the band gives a flawless performance of a great song, the sound people are at their best and the atmosphere and or crowd are primed for an awesome presentation. ~it's an experience that invites (makes?) the viewer wish they were there; even if it's not their typical music genre!!
