Me too, I'm an old lady that accidentally watched the video the first time. I have since watched it at least 30 times and counting. Love him. I'd love to go to his concert, kinda hard for me to get around but will do my best to get there
This is my “reset the system” song. I can listen to it and reaction videos on repeat without messing up my brain. I grew up on the S&G version and it was light & airy, hopeful but a warning. So the first time I heard this version I was just stunned by the change in timbre from the original, and how it changed the feel of the song. Chills & tears - floored. So now? I’m all in on this version. And I’ve listened to both the studio and Conan versions countless times. And I watch reaction videos, loving the joy when new folks discover what David has done with this song.
Paul Simon wrote this song (1964). Performed by his band Simon and Garfunkle as a warning for what has become our world. In recent years he also said that "this is Disturbed's song now". He also stated that this version is the anger because nobody heeded the warning.........
I almost thought I was the only one who knew the meaning. Paul was correct. It fits today perfectly and David made it their own. You can feel the meaning.
David had the flu and high fever. They wanted to cancel but David said no. He had to sit the whole time because of how weak he felt. Listen to the video
Really? I didn't know that he sounded great, I hate to think how many people he may have gotten Sick by showing up to do this but wow what a performance 😀
And apparently, rumour has it that David went ballistic over the fact that the “technical team” tweaked part of his vocals! Whether it’s true or not is another matter!
I LOVE Disturbed. I saw them back in 2006. Im 60 yrs old now and they are one of my favourite bands. The best part of watching this video, other than the song of course, was your reaction. They are a heavy band but some songs are softer in a rock way 😀. I love the hard songs-I put Disturbed on when I clean the house 😁
David Draiman had a lesion on his vocal cord that was extremely painful, but he didn’t want to be a no show so he showed up and showed out man!! He wasn’t pleased with his performance. But millions of people thought it was amazing. Including me. I adore him!
Thank you so much for telling him that David had a lesion on his vocal cord. To me that is so much more impressive than just having the flu. I’ve actually gotten in arguments with people in the comments about how I was wrong about the lesion. But I watched an interview with him where he admitted that was the problem. So I’m glad that someone else is out there talking about it. greetings from Southern California. 🤗💋🥰
I saw them live on the tour for this album and they performed this. There wasn't an eye in a crowd of 35,000 that didn't have tears by the end of it. It was the only time in hundreds of concerts I've been to that I have ever heard absolute silence from the audience until the last note of a song had totally faded away. It's so incredibly powerful, especially live, that it actually makes it impossible to think for a moment when it ends. Like this is the opposite side of the same coin as the original. One a sad lament and warning of society's decay, the other a cold rage against it, and that the warning wasn't heeded.
Yes! Watch the music video for the visuals, you don't need to react to that but you need to see the video for the visuals of the words. Everything in the video is done to tell the story.
I also had never heard of Disturbed until my nephew shared it on facebook. I decided to have a listen and fell in love with this version. David Draiman has such a resonating voice.
I’ve watched so many reactions and my smile gets bigger and bigger when they experience what I experienced for the first time!! Because it’s unreal!!! David!! Is an epic human being!!
Flu and high fever- David Draiman, exhaustion and weakened immune system- Freddie Mercury, torn bloody throat muscles and worn-out vocal cords- John Lennon. These are the signs of a true artist and their willingness to go through a personal sort of hell to insure perfection in any and all performances, truly showcases their Greatness. To All The Legends Of The World. Thank You❤
He's David Draiman. He has a phenomenal voice. Rumors have it that he had the flu when he performed this. A totally different cover of this that is excellent is done by Geoff Castellucci. It's well worth checking out.
They took an already iconic and beautiful song and made it about the best cover ever made! Dave’s voice is on another level! It is said that he had the flu when they did this and still belted it out perfectly!
The acoustics on that Conan stage were bomb, along with the awareness of how a perfect rendition would affect the listeners... Omg.... Multiple times I've listened to this as well as the formal video and by far the Conan stage has the best offering.
Listen. I am the first in line, for anything with a beat (R&B, Hip-Hop, Rap, Dancehall, Reggaeton, etc). But Yo. This guy singing...he's intelligent. He can sing his arse off. He was sick when he did this performance. His voice can make bells ring in heaven or hell, which ever pleases you. He speaks eloquently. I am a fan fan. Disturbed is an exception to the rule. Period.
He doesn't know who this singer is to be not expecting that "roar". The fact that he does THIS song alone is crazy and the interesting thing that most of his fans aren't aware of is that he's classically trained
I'm glad Devante let the song run without interrupting every few seconds. As a child of the 60s who grew up next to New York City (where Simon and Garfunkel are from), I'd just like to point a couple things out about their lyrics so that everyone can really appreciate the genius of this song. To really appreciate this song, you would have to know just how accurate the lyrics are. The “words of the prophets” really WERE written on the subway walls and tenement halls in NYC. This is SOOO New York City back in the day! First thing you would see getting off the subway, amid all the crazy, often lewd graffiti and gang tags, were words of scripture. Often prophetic warnings to repent and about biblical judgement. To really understand this song completely, you would have to understand the parallel Biblical references, such as the neon god reference to the biblical Golden Calf. This song came from a Gospel/Folk album (Wednesday Morning 3AM) in 1964. But oh! The parallel imagery of writing forming the warnings of the prophets on the subway walls, and the writing supernaturally forming on the wall in the biblical book of Daniel is just pure, lyrical genius! It's just brilliant. The supernatural writing on the wall from the book of Daniel tells the king that HE HAS BEEN JUDGED and found wanting. His kingdom is taken from him. And of course, by the next morning the king is dead and Babylon has fallen. NYC is often portrayed as a modern day Babylon. And history repeats itself once again. At it's core, this song is about the human condition that hasn't changed since the dawn of man. This is one of the saddest, darkest songs ever written. And David Draiman connects so emotionally with this song! He's got an amazing voice, crazy talented, but that ability to emotionally connect with the song and especially the audience is not something that can be taught. It's just him. SSSOOO good. My favorite rendition ever!
This is the best “COVER” of any song I’ve ever heard. Better than the original which was a big hit in the 60’s. David Draiman’s voice is amazing. Disturbed actually is a “rock” band, but as you see (& heard) they’re very diverse in their musical ability. Check out their music a little deeper. It only gets better. 🖤🎶🖤
Not only is this one of my favorite songs to hear, it is also one of my favorite to watch people react to. Draiman is a Heavy metal but classically trained. The music video is definitely worth watching from an artistic perspective. As music videos go it's great.
This was originally an anti war song and for people to communicate nationally and internationally. When I hear David sing it, it feels like a warning about global warming and so many millions of voices not being heard by politicians who also didn't hear to stop having wars. Wars won't matter if there's no one to fight them.
The fact that he was sick when he sang this just proves what a phenomenal artist he is. I've heard this song hundreds of times. But watching reaction videos like yours, makes me feel like it's MY first time. I love this live version. But the original video is SO GOOD! I get goosebumps every time.
Youre right, how someone can sound Better Live than in the studio version is unreal. Davids voice is legendary.... If you want to hear Disturbed's "regular " music, check out Down With the Sickness, live in Germany Another great one is "The Light", if you want to start with something a bit calmer... Great reaction!
Actually David is just as awesome in the music video ❤ and I believe you should just watch for the heck of it and then you’ll really understand this man is awesome in the studio or live
This song was originally written by Simon and Garfunkel. it was folk music, both versions are good, obviously Disturbed is best lol. I love how you played the song and just sat back listened and took it in, let it play out instead of stopping and starting, like others do.
David Draiman... the man has amazing range and control!! He can go from baritone to tenor...and can put vibrato on the rasp...which is increibly difficult to do. Amazing!! Great reaction Devante!
Thank you the original creators of this song Simon and Garfunkel, absolutely legendary, and absolutely legendary performance by disturbed, you forget it’s a cover, which is hard to do 😂
For best possible experience, listen to the original by Simon and Garfunkle. Then Pentatonics. Then down with the sickness. Then re-listen to this live performance. Follow with the music video. The perfection of the studio recording combined with the visual experience of the video is AMAZING!!!
The music video has fantastic visuals. The visuals alone make it worth watching. The lead singer, David Reamond, is able to turn that roar on and off like a switch being flipped. Many of the heavy scream type singers can't do anything other than scream, and roar. He can just turn that distortion on and off in an instant.
Wow he feels this song, you can see it, hear it....amazing and it literally has brought a entire world together with this one, everyone with a SONG, it's a beautiful thing!! 😮❤️🇺🇲🙏
This song is about people who are together, but don't communicate with each other emotionally. In a nut shell. It's a very deep song. I felt every emotion that came out of him ❤ I've never heard anyone sing this song with this amount of emotion 🎉
CHILLS....every. single. time I hear this version. COLD indeed! Oh yes sir....this band IS rock. Rock has many textures and colors. You didn't mention if you are aware of the original artists? Nice reaction!! I'm glad you did the live first. The official is beautifully done NO DOUBT. However the live here shows the awesome talent of David Draiman.
First time i heard this song, it literally made me late to work. I was pulling in to my job as this song began, and i couldn't leave my car until it was finished.
Yeah and he was sick that night. But not for nothing while I love this live there is value in the video performance artistically. I think you do yourself a disservice by not checking it out. Great reaction 😊
If you do not watch the video, you are missing out. The video really provokes emotions. Don't lose out. I can't implore you enough--do not miss this experience. Best I've seen!
this live performance was so much better than the music video version, im glad they suggested that the mv version is still great, but this was so much better, especially considering David Draiman, the singer, was sick that night on Conan, which is why he was sitting down for the performance
I will NEVER forget the first time i heard Disturbed sing this, the most powerful song I’ve ever heard
Simon and Garfunkle done right
Dude watch the ice skating version if you want chill!
It brought tears to my eyes the first few times.
Facts....This live version is my Fav
Me too, I'm an old lady that accidentally watched the video the first time. I have since watched it at least 30 times and counting. Love him. I'd love to go to his concert, kinda hard for me to get around but will do my best to get there
His name is David Draiman. He's classically trained but still rips that roar like a boss! Disturbed is so underrated.
trained as a Cantor chose rock n roll instead
@@Aravah1887I believe he also comes from a family of Cantors ❣️👋🇨🇦
You are correct, beautiful voice but he can tear a song up with such talent. Underrated, indeed.
VERY underrated!
What is Cantor?
Paul Simon who wrote and had a hit with it said this is the best rendition he's heard of his song.
There’s was the warning, Disturbs is the anger that no one is heading the warning.
That’s a pretty awesome accolade.
Ciryl Riley sounds good too Australian 🇦🇺🇦🇺🇦🇺
@marissafontaine5646 exactly how I felt about it.
Paul Simon told David, the lead singer, and the band that it’s their song now.
The original version of this song was a warning.
This version is the anger that we didnt listen to the warning.
And many still not listening and staying silent.
Amen
So much truth in your words.
You need to do yourself a favor and watch the video!! It adds so much more to the meaning of the song and his incredible voice!!
Exactly!! I'm 52 years old, I remember S&M' original version. You nailed it! :)
The only thing that really matters is that this guy took a popular song from the 60,s and took it through the roof!
It's a legendary performance.
He made a version that resonates to NOW.
It's my favorite version
He smashed it ❤❤❤
I’ve listened to this song over 100 times and still get chocked up and hair stand up on my arms. True talent.
Me too
It's a warning we *should* have heeded long ago.
Love that song.
This is my “reset the system” song. I can listen to it and reaction videos on repeat without messing up my brain.

This song feels like a 'call to arms'. We ignore it at our own risk. Profound.
Absolutely en pointe. My fear is that we are too late.
@@deborahw6844 Never too late...
Indeed.
David has an amazing vocal range. Honestly one of the best rock/ metal lead singers.
That Roaring is David's schtick. He's perfected it. He can do both that and clean vocals perfectly. He's maybe the best singer in modern time.
A song that should never end, brilliant
people dont realize that David os a classically trained synagogue cantor. his vocal range and frequencies often border on the supernatural
And he was sick during the live performance!
Your not human if you don't get chills 😢
I still get tears hearing this rendition.
I got chills two times in a row
Or cry a little
Or cry a lot!
Paul Simon wrote this song (1964). Performed by his band Simon and Garfunkle as a warning for what has become our world. In recent years he also said that "this is Disturbed's song now". He also stated that this version is the anger because nobody heeded the warning.........
This song was ahead of its time, and foreseeing the future.
This has been the anthem of truth in America esp since 2015-16 and still truth.
I almost thought I was the only one who knew the meaning. Paul was correct. It fits today perfectly and David made it their own. You can feel the meaning.
Actually art garfunkel wrote it in his parents bathroom if you look up the story. Nothing to do with politics just friendship
@@daizeofgrace Since 1964.

Yes, this is true. And he was absolutely furious that they put autotune on him.
@@collettegumbrell8854They out autotune on him. Let's just say he was NOT happy about that.
He had an abscess on his vocal cords that he had surgery to correct. He’s talked about it in interviews since.
Distured fans always knew david draiman is an incredible singer
Sick or not, he killed it!!
So true
We see people being surprised by his voice, but we're just sitting here like "yep. That's Disturbed."
I Love watching the facial expressions on peoples faces when they hear it for the first time, it literally brought me to tears the first time❤️
I like to do the same, and just watch for that 'panty drop' moment. EVERYONE has that moment with this song, even the most stoic reactor.
He is actually classically trained but is lead singer in this heavy metal band.
He’s a classically trained cantor.
He is one of the best vocalists alive. The music video is a great visual ride.

Saw them live and i swear it's almost a religious experience!!
Draiman isn't sick in the studio version and sounds so good! The visuals are a whole other experience!
The video is insane. Rare yes it is they sound so similar. David has pipes for days.

David’s voice always gives chills on this song
This song was relevant in the 1960s when Simon & Garfunkel put it out. This version was relevant for today. Best cover ever.
The live performance is great. But the music video is also beautifully put together.
Disturbed has been bringing out fire for over 20 years, they are an INCREDIBLE band with numerous powerful hits.
You are right though, the live version is better, but the visuals in the official music video are phenomenal too.

Paul Simon actually called David. He said that's the only version that he's heard that did real justice to the original.

David was trained as cantor . This is hauntingly beautiful.

David is a classically trained opera singer, his vocals are amazing.
His voice is up there with Chris Cornell and Lane Staley. My goodness, the deep resonance and his powerful roar is just breathtaking.

Paul Simon wrote this song in 1963 and Simon and Garfunkel released it in 1964. It was rereleased in 1966. Disturbed did the cover in 2015.

the mv version is still great, but this was so much better, especially considering David Draiman, the singer, was sick that night on Conan, which is why he was sitting down for the performance

I've had the pleasure of seeing them seven times in concert, and if I get the chance, I'll see him a hundred more.
