Who’s here binging these reactions going into 2024. once again they never get old.
Yep. Never goes old.
Yep. I’m addicted.
Never get tired of listening !!
Me❤
Watched over 50 tonight, lol
Doesn't matter how often I listen to him, he takes my breath away & gives me the goosies. Tears ❤❤❤
same dude
Same here always
David Draimen, the lead singer, trained as a Cantor in Israel. I think that's what lets him give the song such gravitas and gravity
every single time!!
Chills are real
Can you imagine sitting in the Conan audience on that particular night? You could hear a pin drop, not a rustle, cough, sneeze , or applause until the performance ended! Those people witnessed an epic performance and a truly amazing voice! I wish I could have been there myself!
think i would of died if i knew they was going to be playing that song and i was in the audience
And David was sick with the flu and a high fever of 102
Can you imagine seeing this at a real concert among thousands and thousands of fans? I can, I have 😁
It was an Immortal Moment caught on video and everyone there felt it.
On one reaction video someone from the audience did comment and he said you could have heard a pin drop outside of the performance people were so still and then when David finished they went insane clapping and cheering he said for well over 5 minutes
And the bad ass was even sick during the performance.
not to revive the old joke but, he was down with the sickness ;)
Ha! Lol, you stupify me😇. I’m sure every1 knows, but I’ll mention 4those that don’t -w/Down w/the Sickness…the🎞Dawn of the Dead w/S.Polley, J.Weber, V.Rhames, etc. they had that vs. @the end + during the🎞, there was this finger snapping jazz cover that was quite amusing. Check that 1 out for sh**s & giggles😇.
David Draiman has one of the best voices in the world period...
No. Have you actually heard everyone's voice?
Agreed, and the fact that he was ill and still nailed this is, just that much more amazing!
@@eatsmylifeYT
You probably think Usain Bolt isn’t the fastest runner in the world either.
@@larjkok1184 I don't even think about such trivial things.
Yeah he pretty good but i think he is next to serj tankian
I’m 60 and this song is a classic. The very best version I’ve ever heard. I’m hooked!
65 here... and totally infatuated I'm afraid. I love all their music, but this... THIS will ever be Draiman's song...
@@mandamorris7934 I couldn’t agree more!
Every vocal coach looks like they’ve just stepped into Willy Wonka’s chocolate factory when they listen to this song for the first time. That makes me happy.
🤣🤣👍♥️
And they don't have a clue
OMG!🤣🤣🤣
You got it ! That’s exactly what the reaction is LOL
The shock and awe they display as David pushes each verse up another level is magical.
His version always makes me tear up. Who knew a heavy rocker was a true artist? Not this 69 year old grandmother! Thank you, for review.
I love this version. Im 67. My favorite is the 80s.
I was 71 the first time I heard this; made me cry. Of course I was/am familiar with the original, and I have to say, I like this version the best of any cover I've heard. In my opinion, and it's mine, I own it, I am not a fan of any other Disturbed songs, so there
Tears me up to at 72❤
and he is a very nice man too
He makes this song so much more enjoyable than the original one. It's just so awesome.❤❤❤❤❤
When David Draiman performed this on Conan, he had a cold and sore throat, but he professionally and brilliantly carried on in the vein that the show must go on. Because of his cold and sore throat, the Conan crew actually used a little auto-tune in a couple of spots, which reportedly did not make David happy. David Draiman does not need any help from auto-tune or any other trickery, he is an amazing singer!
A few seconds into his vocals you can See him give a side glance that he caught the autotune and is not happy.. but he doesn't miss a beat and delivers a flawless performance in spite of it.
@@rjhunter1873 he had the flu and a 102 fever
That can be arranged
Disturbed's version is the only cover that Paul Simon has publically endorsed. Mr. Simon shared it on his own personal social media and has said "This song is Disturbed's now."
I have doubts that this is an accurate quote: THe closest I can find is:
Draiman shared word of his interaction with Simon after the band delivered a performance of "The Sound of Silence" during its March 28 appearance on Conan. Simon saw the show and sent Draiman an email shortly after, saying, "Really powerful performance on Conan the other day. First time I’d seen you do it live. Nice. Thanks."
@@peterrose5373 ....umm and Paul Simon actually put a link to it on his website, so I wouldn't doubt there was more to it than what you said.....
Whether he said it or not is beside the point. It's true. Keep in mind I was 10 when S&G's original was released. This song has been with me most of my life and I love this version the most.
@@ChefMimsy ...I agree.....this version I also love the most!
@@ruthiewohlforth5464 No, he didn't say, "The song is Disturbed's now." Whenever people say this they seem to be referencing a video of the band in which Draiman talks about sitting down with Paul Simon in Hawaii and talking about the song. He DID share it to his social media, and he did say he liked the cover and gave them his blessing, but never once did Simon say anything about the song being Disturbed's now. At least not in any verifiable capacity. People are getting the story of this song confused with Johnny Cash's cover of "Hurt" by Nine Inch Nails. Apparently Trent Reznor told Cash, "The song is yours now", after hearing how he covered "Hurt", though I can't find any actual record of Reznor saying this either. (I could be wrong though--I haven't done a lot of research on the NIN/Johnny Cash side of things).
It’s stunning to me that he’s sick here and still sounds incredible
May 2024 still listing to the amazing song. ❤❤
June 2024, me too.
me too
Mr Watson, I’m so glad you appreciated this man’s rendition of Sound of Silence.
Your facial expressions told it all.
I am obsessed with this version. Brilliant
Me too! 😮😮😮😮❤❤❤
This performance shook my world- I think Disturbed’s take on the song is more true to the lyrics than even Simon and Garfunkel’s.
Disturbed is a metal band
David is one of the best vocalist of his time. this song allows you to hear some of his ranges and i love it
Not to mention that he was so ill that he had to sit down!
@@brettmanus7904 THANK YOU you're the first, who points out, that he's sitting down. I always wonderd why no one pointed it out. It was a truly beautiful performance and such a powerful experience. But he's sitting on a chair during that performance and that can take so much power away from your voice but he still has so much of it left. I can only imagine how powerful it would've sounded if he wasn't sick and sitting
@@xsxcxhxaxsxcxhxi2950 it was hidden fairly well by the dark lighting
David's Father is a Rabbi....David was trained as a Cantor. His range is absolutely incredible. The fact that he was really ill at the time of this performance adds even more astonishment. I don't do heavy metal bands really well, but David has my sincere respect and admiration. The official video for this will stir you even more. Take a listen. Thanks for the reaction!
I'm not A metal head i'm a david Draiman head!! I know a lot of people mentioned in the comments about him being ill, but what a lot of people don't realize is that the band insisted that he sit down for this performance because they were fraught afraid.
That hidden height I call over. He was that ill. Exclamation poisn't polite.
We all felt exactly the same when we heard this. And now I've listened to his version oh maybe 85 times and it never stops amazing me. Goose bumps every time.
I could listen over and over!!
This is not an easy song. He's such an amazing singer. I freaking love disturbed. I did not expect this out of him. ❤❤
David was classically trained as a Cantor and it shows! Then he adds what I call his signature Growl, at the right moments for this particular song. I grew up with the light and airy Simon & Garfunkel version, and honestly the lightness of their version never matched the lyrics? This one mixes that light with the growl of the dark right when the songs needs it and it is fantastic. The look on your face was classic. I subscribed! Thank you! ❤️
Like you, I grew up with original. It didn't really do the words of the song the justice this version does. Gives me house bumps every. single. time.
@@PSanthuff Me too, I’m 67 years old person from Serbia.
Thee song is called sound of Silence, the original is perfect. This was an abomination! Singers who don't have the vocal range to do a cover right should stay away from songs like this. If it was football Disturbed fumbled the ball, and their fans celebrated it. It really is sad.
@@jamesmitchell6878 are you serious, disturbed singer has more vocal range than Simon and garfunkel. This cover is that good Simon and garfunkel saud this song belongs to disturbed now. You're a troll who has no clue what a great singer is
@@allanwhittle4603 I am a sound engineer. When Disturbed sells an album because of their shitty version of the song Simon and Garfunkel make money off of it. I like Disturbed, other than that cover which is not performed in the proper range the original was because the singer can't hit the high notes. All the sheep love it, but I am a serious musician who takes music a lot more seriously than simpletons like yourself. Ronnie James Dio, and Bruce Dickenson are the greatest singers in metal history, if you disagree with that, you don't know shit, and
can go fuck yourself. Basically this is the song when Disturbed sold out to become part of the corporate pop music in the metal scene. Wanna be metal fans like you make me sick.
Classically trained singer! I get goosebumps every single time. He also had the flu!
I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this song. The control he has still surprises me every time I hear his voice
Apparently, he was battling the flu when singing on the night of the performance. He is a true professional and I could listen to him sing forever.
yeah, he almost canceled this performance but got through it by doing it sitting down.
"that guy can really lean into that rock sound". You have no idea
Ooo aaa aaa aaa aaa!!!
SERIOUSLY!! He can do amazing things with his voice. I didn't know who they were until this and so I checked them out. I am a rocker from the late 70's into the 80's, so I like rock. Man, these guys were good, ARE good.
Exactly.
It is so incredible to watch vocal coaches and professionals see this performance for the first time. Again and again. Music touches us.
“They can add a little bit of tension.”
David: I’ll see your little bit of tension, and raise you.
I've listened to the live performance numerous times and still get goosebumps. I have often wondered what he could have done if a)he wasn't sick and b) he wasn't seated. Or maybe those things converged to make a perfect storm and this was the result.
As a child of the sixties I have loved the Simon and Garfunkel version for 60 years and never, ever believed anyone could top them - but I stand corrected.
Having seen Disturbed play live and do this song while not ill...it is phenomenal, the power of his voice hits you in the depths of your being, brought me to tears
@@davidmathieson8661 lucky you. 😊
His classical training as a youth definitely comes through. He knows his voice very well and it i believe to be unlimited
i have watched this video...oh maybe 100 times and still get goose bumps. Great reaction
Goose bumps and tears, every time.
David had the flu when he did this. 😏
He was definitely down with the sickness.
I believe David could pull off opera if he wanted, He's got that much range, breath control, strength and emotive skills. If you want double the goosebumps you should seriously watch the video version. That video is a work of art on its own. But the two together, his vocals and its visuals, take your soul on one hell of a ride.
His brother is an opera singer.
My first encounter with the song was when my son sent me the video version and told me to first listen without watching. I was flabbergasted at the sound, then I watched the video. I agree with you. The video is a work of art on its own. His rage face at "neon god they made" sent chill bumps up my arms. I've listened to multiple reaction videos to get an analysis of David's voice and performance. I also tried listening to other Disturbed recordings, but I was not impressed with them.
He WAS an Opera singer. He was trained by a Jewish Synagogue for it.
I always, ALWAYS get goosebumps and hold my breath listening to this. Can't. Breathe. Lol
I could see it in your eyes the moment you were completely blown away by his vocals. ☺
I don't think you're gonna find too much that needs changing in this one, Buddy. He's got talent.
I cannot say enough about the production and the performers God Bless you all this is as perfect as it gets 🙂
Your use of the word "lovely" is perfect description for David's voice! The control he has brings me to tears each time I hear his voice. I can't listen to it without thanking God that David was given this marvelous instrument because he uses it so well.
I loved your reaction! Great mix of genuine amazement and admiration. Fab breakdown of the vocal also.
Thank you so much!!
David Draiman...a voice to die for! A powerful yet soulful voice that can go from warm baritone to angelic tenor, from clear as a crystal to rasp/distortion and back on a dime. He has a timbre in his voice that I've never heard before.....just hauntingly beautiful tonal properties to it! An awesome talent and obvious training to deliver what he does!! Can sing like an angel or the devil ! Loved your reaction and your take on David's performance. Good job Michael ! Try "The Night", "Deceiver", "Violence Fetish" and "The Light" by Disturbed too.....you'll be surprised! Lol...
"A bit of a rock guy".....yeah you could say that!!!!😊❤Sandy
There’s more than just talent in his voice.
Binging here....for the umpteenth time.
David was performing with a temp of °103 he's sitting cause he didn't have the strength to stand.
I love that a voice coach appreciates the best in the business! When I first heard this song it was love, pure love. I could listen to this song all night.
Heavy metal band from Chicago Illinois in the '80s Paul Simon heard this version of the song and he said he was going to put it on his playlist on his phone he was so impressed David was not feeling well when he did this but he couldn't turn them down for a live performance he produces and arranges everything and he nailed this song
Actually, according to Wikipedia Disturbed was formed in 1994. David Draiman is listed at 42nd on Billboard’s top 100 Metal vocalists.
Draiman gives this classic song an entirely new interpretation. Just wonderful.
I love your facial expressions and how much you really felt what David was doing and saying. I love this song from Disturbed! It’s become my favorite from them. Thank you for appreciating it as much as I do.
Pleasure
David was very sick that night too! That's why he's sitting. Heavy metal usually! I love this man's singing. Classically trained. I really like the official song, and the video that goes along with it is wonderful. For a different side of David, listen to down with the sickness!
Watching these reactions never gets old. Great job😊
Love your reaction... when i first heard this version i cried... profound sound and energy 💖😊
I get chills and cry every time I hear this.
I ugly cry every time I listen to it.
I feel that this singer Disturbed really did the song phenomenal and this is the first time that I've ever heard of him and heard his voice I think he's so awesome I'm addicted!!!
I love watching minds being blown…. David never misses.
I’ve listened to over a dozen coaches freak out over this today!
A voice that most of today's "singers" can only dream about!
His voice is absolutely beautiful. Normally, I am not fond of grit, but when he does it it is exciting. Love the pure ness of his viuce
The video of this song is amazing. I love how he can go into and out of that growl in a split second, almost as if it had an on/off switch. He has amazing control.
He was sick as hell performing this too, makes it even more stellar
Yeah he was under the weather when he sung this live version. You should check our the original video too which is great. Ive listened to this song probably 300 times and still get goose bumps several times i hear it
Need to listen to “Down With A Sickness” by Disturbed. 🙂
Yes❤️✌️🌼
I love that song
Showcases his voice even more! Great song
;)
I’ve listen to thirty of these videos. This dude is so cute doing the critique
I greatly appreciate that he uses his rasp to enhance the storytelling, it's not just for show.
Disturbed are a heavy metal band usually. But this is a phenoomenal performance. Very moving.
No worries, dude. I was under the same rock as you till 2 years ago. Disturbed's rendition of this makes me cry where S&G didn't.
wow, what a wonderful powerful voice, David has, can sing beautiful over the wonderful sounds of the great kettle drums, magnificent,,performance, love ❤️
Timpani drum
I’m in awe... Every time I hear him I get chills from the range he continuously controls his voice. I have to listen to it again!!!
I ,ove how all reactors have advise until he hits that deep growl while harmonizing. It’s so great. The best remake ever
AMAZING!!! still pulled it off even though he was sick
Love your reaction to this amazing voice and great information too ♥
Best voice this side of heaven. It is powered by so much ageless wisdom.
He was really sick for that performance and still showed up!!! If his version doesn’t give YOU GOOSE BUMPS SOMETHING IS WRONG!
David was classically trained when he first started singing. Many don’t know that. And during this performance he was very sick. With congestion and head cold/fever I believe I read. But pulled through perfectly. You should watch their video for this too. It is phenomenally powerful. And after this performance Paul Simon reached out to him then went so far as to add the link for their video to his personal page and channel, he was that impressed! This has become my favorite version of the song.
The smile on your face says it all! 😉😁
He was sick during that performance and still killed it
I had heard that he was down with the sickness!
@@oneobserver2260 🤣😂😅😆
Your analysis was spot on and brought in different elements of this performance that I have not heard from other reactions. You were very insightful. I enjoyed it.
thanks
He was a cantor and also was sick as hell when he did this on conan
An amazing cover that I have been listening to for a couple of years and never ceases to bring tears to my eyes. An important message from an old folk song brought to life the way it should be by David Draiman. Classically trained and infinitely talented. Great reaction!
Your surprise, then delight while he was getting grasp, yet going up was good to see.r
You should see his official video. The video goes so well with his voice.
For me it was the big metal piercings in his face that hinted he might be a rock/metal singer 😁
He sure sang his heart out on this, he? Beautiful job !
As a vocal coach, you’d love his vocals in “Hold on to Memories “. Amazing.
I am not a vocal coach, but will seek that out. Thanks.
He was congested during this performance. What a voice!
The texture of his voice is incredible!!!
David's vibrato is gorgeous!
Hes awesome ❤❤❤😊😊😊
And just know David was sick that night. He’s amazing!
Should check out the version they did with Myles Kennedy in the duet if you haven't. Lead singer of Alter Bridge, phenomenal voice of a much higher register to contrast David.
This amazing song taps in to the very very deepest depths of my heart and soul. Beautiful reaction Michael ....love you 💕
I have put this tune on repeat and on full volume. I listened to this tune for a SOLID 24 hour timeframe. I LOVE how it is done with this ROCK BAND FROM CHICAGO.
Loved hearing what you thought about his voice! It sends shivers through me and brings me to tears!
I’ve found that most people seeing/listening to this for the first time are expecting screaming, screeching, major guitar rifts and theatrics, but once they give it a chance and actually click the link - are pleasantly surprised 😊
It's a thing of beauty! Get ready for a religious experience.... Moves me to my very soul!
Watch the lights in the background ! Everytime an instrument starts it lights highlights only David, and the instruments. Fantastic.
He has maybe the coolest distortion of any rock voice
He is a metal singer and one of the best
I loved your true, genuine reaction to David Draiman's incredibly diverse vocal talent. Btw, you're not so bad yourself 💜
David Draiman does have the very best voice I have heard In my 71 years! This version is my favorite song ever!!!
I would really recommend listening to some of the songs by Disturbed.
So glad that the comments gave you the info that Draiman was classically trained as a cantor. And that he took that skill into his own style of music. He's my favorite living singer, now that we have lost Chris and Chester, rest their souls.
Got to see them do that live twice so far, just as amazing!
Couldn't agree more. I was lucky enough to be in the pit for for this song. Incredible experience
He’s amazing. React to “Hold on to memories” by Disturbed also. Another wonderful performance & touching song.
I've listened to this so many times and it grabs me every single time... So powerful... Phenomenal Voice... Best Cover Ever 🤗❤️
