As to the question, "How popular were they?" The band disbanded in 1980 after the death of their drummer, John Bonham...27 years later, with Jason Bonham, the son of their late drummer on drums, they performed at a tribute concert in 2007 at the 18,000 seat, O2 arena in London. There were 20 Million requests for tickets...they were pretty popular!😊
“He’s the only man that can moan in my ear and it’s ok.” 😂😂😂 Agreed, Robert Plant’s voice is amazing. Loved your reaction. LZ is the GOAT. They were and still are extremely popular
Were they popular?? Incredibly! They were the biggest band in the world all throughout the 70's. They're absolute Legends. They're still very popular over 50 years later.
These were and still are the most popular and widely considered the best rock band of all time. They played in almost every genre and killed it live on every gig. Simply the best.
"he is the only man who can moan in my ear & it's ok"'...the funniest shit I have ever heard. They were...and still are...the greatest band of all time
The instrument you wanted to know about is a recorder, not a flute, but in live performance the sound of a recorder was produced by JPJ on a mellotron. In the studio recording JPJ played a recorder. On Robert's pants what you are just seeing is a worn out patch of denim. Later on in other performances it's covered by a small English flag stitched over it. It has been quite fashionable at times to have worn out patches on jeans and later jean brands would sell jeans with artificially created worn patches. LZ were indeed really popular and had some of the highest live audience attendances. They didn't issue singles or play much on TV though. It was all about albums and live performances and their fame spread by word of mouth. Later their record company issued some of their songs as singles in the USA but LZ didn't want to be confined to singles which usually had to be no more than 3 minutes long for radio play. At one time though, Stairway to Heaven was the most requested song on radio. Jimmy Page, the lead guitarist was the band's creator, and producer too. This is why the instruments have time when there is no singing - Jimmy's influence. The band produced a variety of songs where each of the members had their moments to shine. They were all equally talented at their instruments and Robert Plant could use his voice as an instrument at times.
You can't say that Jimmy Page was the band's creator--the lyrics from almost all of their songs were written by Robert Plant (even on the first album, where he didn't get credit because of some competing contract that he had). Jimmy *was* the band's "creator" in that he brought the group together--but as far as the work of creating their music, they were all involved.
@@ceridwenattwood5784 That's what I meant by creator. Jimmy created the band by putting it together. He decided the name for the band and he financed and produced their first album. He also had strong ideas of how the band should sound but they all contributed to that. When they gelled together so well, Jimmy was prepared to be flexible.
Yes, they were popular, I loved seeing them in 1973 at Kezar Stadium at Golden Gate Park in San Francisco. I was a young hippy chick with long blond hair parted down the middle with a headband and a leather vest with long tassels. Huge bell bottoms and loving every minute right down to the end when they played this, then they released hundreds of white doves into the stadium. A very magical day during an incredible time. I do have to say that I feel very lucky to have been a teenager during the 60s. I was born and shortly after rock-n-roll was born, still loving it so much I am here watching you watch them. I am still soaking in every note.
This is considered the greatest rock band of all time. Instrumental and vocals. They were what all other rock bands would be compared against. No song is the wrong one to pick.
This is what rock greatness sounds like. Jimmy Page, the BEST guitarist of all. Yes, of ALL. It was sheer magic, playing the guitar effortlessly, with such complexity. Robert Plant, superb vocals, incredible front man, whose voice blended perfectly with the guitar...Led Zeppelin remains unchallenged for the outstanding talent in one group.
Let's not forget the back half of the group! John Paul Jones, possibly the most musically accomplished of all of them, supplying bass and keyboards, to say nothing of little things like the recorders on the album cut of this song, or mandolin on some of their acoustic numbers, and some bass riffs here and there that can just blow your mind! And John Henry Bonham--"135 pounds of glory!" The most amazing rock drummer ever. Some people think Neil Peart (Rush) deserves that title, but I vote for Bonzo, hands down. He could play the hell out of the drums, and did, but what I have come to appreciate about him is he never overplays--he doesn't just go to town to show off. If the song warrants it, yeah, he goes wild. But if the song doesn't warrant it, he sets a more measured tone. And if you really want to see his mastery of *his* instrument, then Moby Dick is the way to go--and is the only time I would say watch it live; most other songs I would say listen to the album cut first. My favorite version of Moby Dick is the one from "The Song Remains the Same" (also where this version of "Stairway" comes from). You watch that and you will know pretty much all you need to know about Bonzo's drumming. It's a virtuoso performance by a true master. But all that talent loaded on stage wasn't all that made LZ what they were. Those 4 guys had flawless chemistry. It was the mix of all of them, bringing their talents to the table, that made them so good. It was...they were...magic. I've been listening to them for almost 50 years now, and it never fades, and it never gets old. There have been times in my life when I haven't listened as much, but I always come back and it is always both familiar and comfortable, but fresh and new as well. Watching reaction videos about these old familiar favorites of mine really helps me--I was going to say "see them with fresh eyes" but I guess I should say "hear them with new ears." And I really appreciate it. I love that kids and young adults are giving this music a listen, and falling in love like my friends & I did, back in the day.
There used to be a thing called bands. Everyone in the band played real instruments and while the singer sang lyrics on most songs, there were also instrumental parts that allowed each band member to show their skills. These were commonly referred to as, "solo's". There were also times when the entire band would just play together in what was commonly called a "jam" or "jam session". Often different band members would improvise certain parts so that no two performances were ever quite the same. It was "live". There are still bands today, and there are still talented artists. They make music that is much more enjoyable than what can be digitally created. When bands create music, the lyrics and the instrumental parts are equally important to conveying the message and emotions of the artists. It's a shame that what's popular today is so manufactured and repetitive.
Thank you for explaining that😉. I also wanted these youngins. What bands were! My sister and I had a band in our teens, I played drums and sang harmony, my sister played guitar and sang, then we had key board, and bass! We played Jefferson Airplane,Janis Joplin my sister could hit those high notes, Animals, and some country,. So yeah these youngins need to learn before they speak😉😂🥰
An indication as to how good they were... listen to Kashmir LIVE at Celebration Day. Hadn't played together for 27 years, but when you hear the "1, 2, 3, 4" count into the song, that sonic boom you hear next (and the entire song) is absolute gold. Better than ever. That's raw and natural talent and passion for what they do. Popular? Starbucks is popular. Led Zeppelin is a religion.
My only comment about that is that Celebration Day isn't the original 4. John Bonham died in 1980--it's why the band broke up. The Celebration Day concert was in 2007, and featured the 3 surviving members and John Bonham's son Jason on the drums. And as far as I can tell it was a great show, and of course Jason Bonham does a fine job. But it's not "them" and I really think that for first time listeners, they should listen to the original 4. And for Kashmir, I *really* think the album cut is the way to go for first time listeners. Go to the "source material" before getting into the live versions and reunion sets and such. The only song I would say skip the album version and go straight to the live version is "Moby Dick" because John Bonham's drum solo during "Moby Dick" live is the stuff of legends. The other guys just flat-out leave the stage and let him get on with it--and boy, does he ever! I like the version from "The Song Remains the Same" but there are others.
Led Zep is arguably the best and most famous 60-70s British brilliance with iconic songs with sensuality from the front man for sure-blue jeans/leather on men was the culture of the hippy day and rock n roll he is also wearing a girls blouse
- "How popular"? Considered by many to be THE GREATEST ROCK BAND EVER! - And, "Stairway", considered by many to be THE GREATEST ROCK SONG EVER! - Listen to more Zeppelin... you can't lose! Enjoy
Every party I attended as a teenager in the 70's ended with this followed by Free singing All right Now!! LITERALLY EVERY PARTY! With everyone shouting "Does anyone remember laughter???". Led Zep were MASSIVE!!
They were the best . The 12 string has 6 regular strings with a smaller higher octave string right next to it which gives a brighter richer sound Try The song Remains the Same and Rain Song from this concert He plays the first song on the 12 str. and like you mentioned The Rain Song is in a different tuning on the 6 str. Its my fav song from them you will like um
So glad this song impressed you! Great reaction! Love this tune. New Years 1979 a local radio station had contest for the top rock song of the decade from 100 up to #1. The winner got ALL 100 albums of those artists. The contest closed before the songs started. I was the first one to call with the right answer. I still have every one of those vinyls and the great artistry on the covers of some of them is as classic as the music. Thanks for doing this one.
That's an 8 minute intro before the drums kick in. The drums then carry away the whole song, combined with next-level guitar. Masterpiece from start to finish.
They sold over 30 million albums just off the first 3 albums and then they recorded another 5 albums after, and toured the USA upto 7 times a year and were the first band to have their own Boeing airliner of their own to be able to Tour 25 gigs in 35 days, and still have the largest ever crowd of people to see one band on two consecutive nights which was over 250,000 people on both nights in a place called Knebworth in England in 1979, you'll be able to get most of the songs from those nights on UA-cam.
It's saying something when people request music that's a half a century old. Love it when the pioneers of rock still hold up over decades and blows the mind of people just discovering it.
Led Zeppelin was the biggest most popular band in the 70's! They even became bigger than the Beatles! Even today there still considered the biggest band in rock! Go into the zeppelin rabbit hole you won't be disappointed! Get the Led Out!
jimmy improvised every solo he ever played!! he just goes somewhere else and lets the music flow though him, hes no teven looking most of the time!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Popular? Yes. This is maybe the biggest band of all time, and this one of the greatest songs ever over-played on the radio. They ruled 70’s rock radio. Icons I think you’d call them now.
Aww give Robert and his "youthful exuberance" a break. He was in his 20s and heading towards being the photo next to rock star in the dictionary or on Wikipedia....☮️💜🤘🔥
This band is “my everything” they were & are so popular (as you put it, that when they toured, they played in some cities for several nights. I saw them on 6-16 & 6-18 1977 in NYC. They didn’t have a piddly private jet, they had a 737 or 747!
As far as popularity is concerned Led ZePPeLiN kicked The Beatles off of the number 1 position and shattered their audience records. Also Their last concert had the biggest demand for tickets ever by any group for a single night showing.
The only band more popular was the Beatles. Led Zeppelin ruled the album oriented world of FM radio back in the day, while the Beatles ruled the pop-oriented world of AM radio a little earlier. Stairway to Heaven has frequently topped most-requested rock and roll song lists long after it was released in 1971. To understand the impact of Led Zeppelin, I recommend reacting to the song "Whole Lotta Love" (preferably the studio version). It was the opening track on their second album, which was released in the fall of 1969. When listening to it, try to imagine a world where nothing that sounded like that song existed previously. That song kicked the door wide open for a lot of hard rock and heavy metal that came later. The level of swagger in that song is off the charts. From Wikipedia, an A&R executive from Geffen records had this to say: "In my opinion, next to the Beatles they're the most influential band in history. They influence the way music is on records, AOR radio, concerts. They set the standards for the AOR-radio format with 'Stairway to Heaven,' having AOR hits without necessarily having Top 40 hits. They're the ones who did the first real big arena concert shows, consistently selling out and playing stadiums without support. People can do as well as them, but nobody surpasses them." Edit: I see you already did react to Whole Lotta Love. Now I'll have to go check out that reaction! :)
Hugely popular. Sold millions of albums (they didn't bother with singles) and still selling. No pitch machines, no autotuning, you got what you got. Their manager, Peter Grant, was one of the first to bring money to the band, and he was canny about merch and stuff. Other managers before that were more about themselves, but Grant was a fan. Started in pro wrestling. Jimmy's double necked guitar - one was twelve string, the other was six string, and he didn't use it for many songs, because it was really heavy. Steve Howe of Yes preferred to use a twelve string on a stand, and wear his other guitar.
When I was discharged from the service in 70' these guys came to town in the summer of 71' and needless to say filled all ten thousand seats.Everyone that was there seemed to know each other and they blew the place away. They been first in popularity since that time till even now
You just listened to the greatest rock band ever!! It’s so much fun seeing younger people discover Zeppelin. Their musical diversity is unbelievable. Perfect storm of 4 of the best musicians on earth
My favorite Zeppelin song next to the Immigrant Song. How popular is Led Zeppelin ? they are legend. They played stadiums and arena concerts. The best band of all time. Their concerts would blow you away. Great Reaction Shon❤❤ I wish I could take you back in time to see all the great concerts from back in the day. I am so glad I lived during this great time in music. If you want to see the best guitarist of all time then check out Stevie Ray Vaughan- Texas Flood live at the El Macombo . I have personally seen him play 20 minutes straight. We lost him in 1990 in a helicopter crash after he left a concert.
This was a band of not just four talented musicians, but four musical geniuses. The music they gave the planet is one of the best achievements of the human species. I discovered them in the 1980s, thanks to my older sister's boyfriend at the time, lol. I don't imagine I will hear another band as good as them before I die. Once in a century greatness probably.
Another great double neck guitar song is Eagles - Hotel California. It has a guitar duet with Joe Walsh on single neck guitar and Don Felder on the double neck guitar.. look for the live version from around 1976-1977.
Also keep in mind Led Zep was one of the pioneers of Heavy Metal both musically and lyrically. However, they seemed to transcend multiple genres and blend them together seamlessly. Having heard them for so many years it's hard to remember how inventive they were. I do remember hearing Led Zep 4 after my teacher mother confiscated it from a student. I wore the grooves off that one!
Considered by many as the "GREATEST" rock band of all time.
Ditto
Words greatest band and the greatest song of all time. But check out the tribute to the band with heart singing this song
🐐 s
Idk about the greatest, considering the Beatles existed, but they’re still one of the best

I think the patch on Plant's jeans in this video was of an angel. I wonder if the angel was a patch placed in honor of Plant's deceased son.

This band is “my everything” they were & are so popular (as you put it, that when they toured, they played in some cities for several nights. I saw them on 6-16 & 6-18 1977 in NYC. They didn’t have a piddly private jet, they had a 737 or 747!
His voice is another instrument ❤
GREATEST Rock N' Roll Band of ALL time !
Arguably, one of the bet musicians showed what they could do in the early 70's. Geniuses in their own right❤
As far as popularity is concerned Led ZePPeLiN kicked The Beatles off of the number 1 position and shattered their audience records. Also Their last concert had the biggest demand for tickets ever by any group for a single night showing.
They are the best rock band of all time 🎉
Led Zeppelin, the original Rock Gods.
Literally at the time the most popular band in the world.
They are the GOAT! Of Rock.
From Wikipedia, an A&R executive from Geffen records had this to say:
"In my opinion, next to the Beatles they're the most influential band in history. People can do as well as them, but nobody surpasses them."
Edit: I see you already did react to Whole Lotta Love. Now I'll have to go check out that reaction! :)
they are the Mighty Zep.... and there will never be another.
Absolutely the greatest rock band ever:
They are still at the pinnacle. Masterclass musicianship. Forever RockStars. Pink Floyd is another band that could do no wrong.
This is hands down ,the greatest rock band of all time, anyone tries to tell you different ,does not know a thing about music.
How popular ??? Its Zeppelin, pretty damn popular !
Greatest rock band of all time.
When I was discharged from the service in 70' these guys came to town in the summer of 71' and needless to say filled all ten thousand seats.Everyone that was there seemed to know each other and they blew the place away. They been first in popularity since that time till even now
Check out Jethro Tull, if you like the flute you can't go wrong
Universal peace. LOVE you
You just listened to the greatest rock band ever!! It’s so much fun seeing younger people discover Zeppelin. Their musical diversity is unbelievable. Perfect storm of 4 of the best musicians on earth
I' m happy a new generation want to know Led, Elvis and many others.
One of the greatest guitarist
My favorite Zeppelin song next to the Immigrant Song. How popular is Led Zeppelin ? they are legend. They played stadiums and arena concerts. The best band of all time. Their concerts would blow you away. Great Reaction Shon❤❤
I wish I could take you back in time to see all the great concerts from back in the day.
Led Zeppelin were the gods of rock n roll
The holy triumphant of rock anthems is Led Zeppelin Stairway to Heaven, Lynyrd Skynyrd Free Bird, and arguably, Queen, Bohemian Rhapsody.
They bought their first 747 Jet Airplane after 6 years of being a band, owned it, custom, for their concert travels.
Best groups off all time, 1.Beatles 2. Pink Floyd 3.Led Zeppelin
Couldn't have lived without them (him)
theyre so popular theyre probably sampled in like 65 percent of the songs you have ever heard
Hello from Cody Wyoming! You're awesome... you have just witnessed greatness. If you keep reacting I'll keep watching😊
Love your reaction!! How popular? LOL World wide!
Were they popular? 🤯They are one of the top rock groups of all time! The benchmark of hard rock for generations!
Thay wiĺ forever be the best band of all times and still are
My favorite Zeppelin song did just me now hey hey what can I do
Im 72 yes and i saw Zep in Houston 10 times Awesome
Every song 🎶 is DIFFERENT
The top guitar is a 12 string which Jimmy used for rhythm, the bottom is a 6 string which was used to do the lead instrumental part
