That`s why they are the GOAT. 55 years and NEVER gets old. This is why, on the album it`s great, in concert you get these guys doing solo`s that blow you away.
Yep. That's what it is, although there does exist a guitar similar to what he's asking about. Jeff Martin from The Tea Party will occasionally play his harp guitar on stage. It's a double-necked instrument, with guitar on the lower neck and a harp on the upper one. He uses the harp part to play bass notes with. Here is a link at least to see what the instrument is like: ua-cam.com/video/w1f7RBTTSKM/v-deo.html Unfortunately I couldn't find one where he does more with it :(
Before foot delays, they got the live effect on the 12 buy not having the the pickups active on the 12 the sound is from the pickups on the 6 from vibration throw the body. The guitarist in a prog band i played in in the 80s had one of these and lots of experiments in bedrooms. Happy days.
Yuppp. Exactly. Gibson double neck w/ 12 string on top and classic 6 string on bottom.... Jimmy Page switches back and forth to get that awesome sound!
Loved your reaction. You did the right thing and never interrupting a Jimmy Page solo so I have much respect for that. Led Zeppelin is the best the greatest ever to walk the earth ✌️
one of the best songs ever!!! It's never boring, but magical every time I listen to it since more than 50 years- always finding new pieces in it, I never noticed before.
The double neck has a 12 string neck on the top and a normal 6 string on the bottom neck. The 12 string gives it a more acoustic/ethereal/ bigger sound. Jimmy specifically bought it for this song at the time because the songs switches back and forth between 6 and 12 string guitar parts and Jimmy didn't want to have to switch guitars throughout the song so that guitar was the solution.
My best friend's dad made us listen to for the first time when I was 12. We were listening to Oasis, u2 and Pearl Jam and he had enough. He said listen to real music and we ended up with tears in our eyes. Powerful stuff.
I remember when i was a kid, my best friends brother died suddenly. After comming back from the funeral we sat together in silence listening to this song on repeat for what must have been hours. It is the saddest i've ever felt whole life, watching my friend go through that at such an early age. It left a permanent mark on me and made me realise just me how precious and fleeting life can be. To this day, whenever i feel down i listen to this song as a reminder that you can't take life for granted and you have to make the most of each day given to you. It makes me so unbelievably sad and at the same time so incredible grateful. It is a true masterpiece of music.
When it comes to Led Zeppelin, throw a dart at their catalogue and you won't be disappointed. John Bonham died very young but still one of the greatest drummers to have ever lived despite a short career. Jimmy Page is a legendary guitarist, John Paul Jones is underrated as a bassist and Robert Plant is the quintessential vocalist.
Melatron keyboard is the flute sound. Jimmy's guitar is a 12 string and a 6 string...just for the 2 different sounds. JPJ plays the bass with his feet while playing the keyboards!!
He didn't play the actual bass with his feet but bass pedals. bass pedals are like mini organs but they're tuned down lots to a bass and sit right by your feet so you can play any instrument with them.
"It's like he's not even trying!" That applies to guitarist Jimmy Page too - his pick hand always looks perfectly relaxed to me, no matter what note he's playing - hell, he had his eyes closed practically the whole time!
Simply the greatest. Every song off of every album is its own masterpiece, all very different. Average bands, especially today's music, all the songs sound pretty much the same, no individuality . These guys were true musicians the best ever .
As much as I love the live versions, I am grateful that I heard the original studio version as a child. Other good songs: Ramble on, Good Times Bad Times, rock and roll.
"Ten Years Gone" is Zeppelin tune that you need to listen to! Saw this band live many times and they never did any song the same live but always to perfection. This was the most requested song of the 1970's decade and still considered the best rock tunes ever by many!!!
This video is from the concert movie “The Song Remains the Same”. The sound is John Paul playing keyboard. He is as much a master of his instruments as Page, Plant, & Bonham. Saw them in 1975 & 1977 and by the time they play this your in overload! Great reaction! EDIT ADDED: I saw the documentary yesterday “Dazed & Confused”. Plant says what he’s doing now is retirement comparatively. He used to “have a sock down his trousers and was all over the place”. I think he was being truthful....
John Paul is multi talented and too often overshadowed by the iconic statures of Page, Bonham and Plant. John Paul's immense talent really shines on the In Through The Out Door album.
Jimmy Page is a master, here. He's so on top of his game and he knows this song so well, he could be reading a newspaper through this - he's bringing out this pure gold music and it's so casual it's like it's just nothing to him. They're a legend for a reason.
Make sure you listen to the studio version of the song after this, because obviously the live version is amazing. But they are improvising quite a bit here, the original song in certain spots sounds nothing like this lol either way it's amazing. The original is just a must listen after this 👍🔥 Just sayin ha ✌ "Dyer Maker" would be a good follow up, or "Good Times, Bad Times" , or "Communication Breakdown" haha.
Great reaction! You great taste, Led Zep is the greatest rock band ever, Stairway to Heaven is the most famous rock song ever, and it has the greatest and most famous lead solo of all time. Good Job!
I was fortunate to witness Led Zepplin live in concert in the 70’s. They are ALL incredibly talented. No words can describe the concert. Smoke filled Arena in St Louis. Joints passed constantly. LSD. Love. Peace. This is the BEST ROCK BAND of all time. Rush comes in second.✌🏼✌🏾✌🏿
As of yesterday (4-1-2021) it is LEGAL to spark up a bowl while watching you younger people react to the great music I grew up with. I invite all others to light up with me. Enjoy this awesome performance from The Zep.
You should check out 'Ship of Fools' by Robert Plant. Also check out Heart's cover of Stairway to Heaven live at the Kennedy Center. Jimmy Page and Robert Plant were in the audience. Heart nailed it!
Keep in mind just how good this live performance is considering the technology of the time. Considered the greatest rock song ever written. I recommend reacting to heart doing this song at the “Kennedy honors” for Led Zeppelin. Spectacular!
Ok...Dazed And Confused live from MSG 1973...this same concert. 28 minutes of Jimmy murdering the guitar...plays it with a cello bow! You will never see anything else like it! Also Whole Lotta Love live from this concert...Jimmy plays a Theramin!
But he can't watch live performances cause he gets upset at Robert's dick. Which is something every guy did back then. I love Led Zep. Saw them in 1970 but remember nothing. 😲 I just need to say if he's not going to watch their live performances because he can't handle a dick, he's not serving his viewers. There's nothing like Led Zep live.
I remember after getting out of the Marine Corp in 1971 my buddy who also got discharged at the same time talked me into going to Led Zeppelin in Fort Worth at the Will Rogers Colosseum. I knew then I was witnessing something great. It was just amazing. Just imagine, Robert Plant was only 19 years old.
I absolutely love this song (this is actually one of my regular ones in karaoke). When i heard the guitar solo first time i listened to this (it was the album version) i got fullbody chills and tears in my eyes. Yea... It got me that good.
The bass player was playing like a Hammond organ or something like that. That’s the flute sound you’re hearing. He played the bass notes with his feet. Jone Paul never gets the recognition he deserves.
he was playing the Mellotron. He also used it in"The Rain Song" for strings At the time other bands had used it including the Beatles on the intro of Strawberry Fields.
This may be one of the very best versions of this song. I've never seen the videos either. Loving your INTO reaction. Music is love when you love the music.
They have a boatload of great songs. This is gonna take months brother. It’s nearly impossible to pick a favorite but ‘Over the Hills and Far Away’ is a can’t miss!!!
The sounds at the beginning was a flute sound from an instrument called a Mellotron (an early tape based sampler keyboard). Also used on The Beatles track Strawberry Fields) played by John Paul Jones. The guitar Jimmy is playing is a Gibson EDS1275, It has a 12 string at the top and a 6 string on the bottom. Before forming Zeppelin Jimmy played Bass when he first joined The Yardbirds, he then switched to guitar when Jeff Beck left. Jeff gave Jimmy his Fender Telecaster and it was used on the first Zeppelin album and the solo of Stairway to heaven (studio version). The Yardbirds evolved into the New Yardbirds and then the name was changed to Led Zeppelin.
Van, I appreciate that you did not interrupt Jimmy Page's guitar solo, I'm a strings guy & NEVER turn off a gutiar solo on the radio, t.v stream service, video, etc. I truly appriciate that. The double neck guitar that Jimmy Page (A Guitar Rock god!) is playing is a Cherry Gibson EDS-1275 double neck guitar- 12 strings on top and 6 strings on the bottom. The intro and melodious parts were played on the 12 string portion, the rythm & solo was played on the 6 strings portion. Robert Plant (A Rock vocal god!) is the lead singer. A song that Led Zappelin performed that I suggest you react to is, 'Gallows Pole', it can be found on the Led Zeppelin III album, (yes, it was originally pressed on vynil).
Over the hills and far away, when the levee breaks, hey hey what can I do, ramble on, the battle of evermore. So many other great songs that you can just start with.
They played this 24/7 on the Radio Stations. Their Our Rock God's in the Day 1973/74 . So Great !!!!💯✨🙏✨💞💖👌 If you did not know them then ,your head was under a Rock . Goose Bumps ,Again
man. if you thought that the double neck guitar was crazy, watch the video from cheap trick "the flame". they are great, but nowhere near the same league as led zeppelin. the lead guitarist plays a FIVE neck guitar. i've seen them live several times. this guy is funny, but is nuts as hell. the song is by far my favorite of theirs. a beautiful song. check it out!
As has been suggested a lot in other comments, “Good Times, Bad Times” (studio) is a must if you love drums. I love listening to the foot work of John Bonham. After that, try the the same song, but a drum cover by then 8 year old Japanese drummer, Yoyoka. Her smile and pure love of music is infectious. It also has amassed 2 million views in 2 years. Also, a radio show host had Robert Plant react to her playing of the song, and has 1.4 million views. He said, “John would be amazed.”
They are the GOATS...PERIOD! 😎👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 It’s a Double neck, 6 string on the bottom, 12 string on top. If you take notice he plays them at different times in the song. Those stings you’re hearing is the keyboard.
*Thank You Guys!!! I’m going to do a Poll inside Patreon for our next few songs to rock out LED ZEP WEEK! Don’t MEET me there! BEAT ME THERE!! 🖤*
It's a 12 string and 6 string necked guitar...
Plenty of moma’s in the 70’s flicked the little bean to this man 😲

You just can't go wrong with that rhythm section. The facts that the other two in the band, Plant and Page, are risen masters of their craft is a bonus.
The song "the Crunge" from Houses of the Holy
I'm now CONVINCED: This is the best LIVE rock guitar solo, EVER. In rock and roll HISTORY!!!
Top neck of the guitar is a 12 string, lower is a 6 string. Absolute masterpiece of British rock. Loved Zep for over 45 years now.
He isn't a rock star, he is THE rock star. So many Rockers tried to channel this man during the 80's and failed miserably.
Robert is a mystical talent ❤❤❤❤
Best guitarist ever. DAZED AND CONFUSED. LIVE ONLY!!!
That`s why they are the GOAT. 55 years and NEVER gets old. This is why, on the album it`s great, in

Yesterday 12 string has 2 of the same key but an octave part to give it more of a harmony sound.

I don’t think you’ve listened to the “Lemon Song” or “How Many More Times”, early Zeppelin is the best Zeppelin. Their later stuff is good to.
I was backstage for this show and many others. I worked security for a lot of bands. 70's thru the early 90's.
Dude, just throw a dart. They don’t have any bad songs.
You’re right. 90 songs and they’re all incredible
Yaah! Zep is rock and this song still gives me chills…nice reaction!
