If you say "shake" when Freya shakes off excess water, you can teach her to do it on command. Super helpful to be able to get them to shake after a rainstorm walk *before* walking in the house or store.
aw Dana! I slept like minimum 20 hours a day for the first trimester of both my pregnancies. Its the most normal of needs during that phase. The second time around, when I had a toddler, I set up our mattress on the ground, shut the door to our bedroom and just let my baby explore the room, crawl on top of my body, snuggle in for breast milk and her own nap, all while I passed in and out of sleep. At the time it felt impossible, and now its a really endearing memory of my baby parent phase of life. Seriously, I wish you guys all the best.
Thank you so much for sharing your experience, Frances, that is actually so nice to hear I'm not the only one!! And that really does sound like an absolutely beautiful memory of such a special time, I have such a smile on my face reading that ❤️ Thank you for sharing, and sending much love to you and your family ❤️
I'm a longtime fan of you and Lou's storytelling, and the mother of a 6 year old. I was so thrilled to learn that the two of you are expecting a baby, and wanted to recommend a memoir that I think you might love - I read it when my son was 3 and thought "I wish I had this when I was pregnant!" The book is "Homing Instincts: Early Motherhood on a Midwestern Farm" by Sarah Menkedick. I thought of you in particular, because it's a memoir of a world traveler reflecting on the experience of being pregnant and shifting her adventure-seeking inclinations toward more inward, introspective, and root-building energies. Huge congratulations to you in this special time!
Wow, that sounds right up my alley!! Thank you for thinking of me and taking the time to share that, I will definitely be adding that to the list! ❤️ And thank you for the kind words as well :) Sending much love to you and yours ❤️
I've been watching you guys for quite some time now, and I just want to say that the ways in which you film and edit - the ways in which you express yourselves through this platform - have always been impressive and inspiring to me. I try to be consistent in watching you both just because I know that something in each video will strike a match for some joy inside of me. I'm very happy for you two. I appreciate your lives and stumbling into them however many moons and adventures ago. Thank you.
Carole!!! Oh my goodness, thank you so much for taking the time to leave such an incredibly sweet and kind message, I can't explain how full that made my heart to read ❤️ We are so incredibly happy our videos resonate in that way, so happy we can be a source of joy. Thank you for being with us for these journeys, and again for this super kind message ❤️ sending our love!!
Thank you, Julia!! That is such a valid point, and a good reminder... it's so easy to hone in the "smaller" projects but you are right, it is the long game that really matters :) Sending you our love!! ❤️
Hey guys I think that It would be awesome if you can talk about your relationship in terms on how do you met and how do you manage to have such a healthy and romantic relationship as its visible on the videos. You are an inspiration for me.
I know you have so much going on so seeing a 25 minute video from you two means a lot ❤️ Dana and Lou, I’m so excited and privileged to watch you both become parents, but especially Dana to become a mother! WOW!!
Another wholesome video! These make me so happy. I am continuing to smile while watching. Also love that you are naming all your vehicles. And fraya makes me giggle, she is one happy fluff ball.
Your excitement is contagious! So many happy moments in this video, it is nice to savor the new normal!. I have forgotten the fun of going to the library, tend to read so many books on my phone. Going to have to dust off the library card and go wander the aisles of our library and see what sparks my creative juices. Look forward to Dana's Library
Congratulations! 🎉 y’all are so adorable. I love how respectful you are to one another:) the second trimester is where you start feeling so much better. This the time you get things done:) 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻.
This chapter of your lives reminds me of the good parts of my childhood, when we would make bread and sauerkraut and kombucha. Good memories that I sometimes have a hard time holding onto in light of all the bad that came later. You don't know me, or my story, but thank you for reminding me of those good chapters.
Thank you so much for sharing this comment, Kathryn ❤️ We are really humbled and happy to remind you of those good chapters. Sending you such big hugs and so much love ❤️
loving these maui videos. you should really, really, really get to know the locals, learn from the people instead of from books, humbly release all of your mainland mentalities and habits. if hawaiians know you're there to learn and love, not to exploit and take, they will give you the shirts off their backs. if you isolate yourselves and think you'll figure out everything on your own, it won't be as rich and peaceful of an experience
Personally I think that doing both things are helpful. It also won't hurt to learn the history. Growing up in Hawaii I was taught about the Hawaiian history, culture, and belief/religious system. I also learned from Hawaiians and experienced the culture 1st hand. But that history that we learned in school was very important. In the mainland schoosl they are not taught about that. So I personally don't see anything negative about someone (even a local or Hawaiian) learning more via accredited books etc. Of course it is also vital that they learn about it through Hawaiians and not just by reading about it. I think it's smart to be well rounded and learn in more than one way or with more than one source. We also don't know who they interact with because they're probably going to respect privacy etc and not record everything. I'll admit i was a but apprehensive when I saw that they moved to Maui but so far they seem to be respectful 🙏
Aw, thank you so much! It really is gorgeous here and we are overwhelmed by how kind everyone is, and so grateful and fulfilled by budding friendships, too ❤️ We don't usually film our friendships (respecting everyone's privacy :) so that's why you mostly just see us in the videos. But we are truly so blown away by most people we have met here, it is so true how kind everyone is ❤️ Thank you all for your comments and watching along!! Sending our love xx
So normal to be sleepy in the first trimester! I am not a napper but I slept my way through all 3 of my first trimesters. It takes so much energy to set up that baby making business in our bodies! So sleepy.
Absolutely loved this and your vlogs always make me take those deep breaths, relax and have a sense of calm wash over me. What a wonderful time for you all, as you grow your family and keep enjoying every second of this special time and of nesting. You’ve also inspired me to have a go at making some sour dough, yours looks incredible 🤩🥰💖
I had my baby girl 3 weeks ago, being a mom has been the most amazing transition! My first trimester I was more tired then I’ve ever been in my life, sleeping all the time.
Wow, congratulations on becoming a mom, Ashley!!! So exciting!!! And ha glad I am not the only one who was miss sleepyhead in the first trimester ❤️ Sending you and yours our love!!
OMG! I’ve missed so much, but I’m loving this giddy energy of doubling the fan!!! 🤗 yay to you guys!!!!! Sending good energy and lifting you up in motherhood from one new mother to another ❤️
Congratulations! I am following your journeys for a while now and i am so excited for you guys. I always felt so inspired by the crazy adventures you are taking. It's nice to see that the both of you are settling into your new land life. Best of luck and lots of love!
Congratulations! Sleep all that you can now. My mother always told me that while I was pregnant with my first child. I love that you are “honoring” your body.💕
Sweet a baby changes your life and your thought process. Take each day one at a time. Don't make any changes until your baby and husband are ready for something new. This is a blessing, love each other and the new addition to your family 👪 🥰🥰. Both mothers love you more and as you grow. 🙏🥰🥰💐
Such a beautiful space you are creating in your new home. So many wonderful life adventures await you. I had a feeling a baby was to become part of that adventure... Congrats!
The shot of the truck backing up to that rock has become one of my faves and I don't know why. hahahah. I am heading to Maui next month and can't wait to see this scenery in real life.
What a fun and exciting journey you two are embarking on now, looking forward to following along and seeing you flourish :) Oh and that bread? Fantastic!
Sheesh, I can't believe how FAST Freja is growing!!! What a L💗VE❣ I was surprised you didn't borrow from the library, or maybe you already have it, the book "What to Expect When You're Expecting". I found it immensely helpful, and even used the companion journal to keep myself in check nutritionally & make sure I wasn't only giving in to maternity cravings but was getting all the right balance of nutrients for my 1st born (23 years ago! 😉)! My NP labeled me a "model for maternity weight gain" the week before my delivery, so I highly recommend both books! ...and Lou's BREAD?? My mouth is literally watering!!! 🤤 Love y'all!! 🥰
i’m so happy so many people are finding your channel and are appreciating your videos, editing style, storytelling all of it!! i love y’all so much and found you back in the “shooting 35mm film series” i’m so excited for you and your growing family always and thankful you choose to share so much with us. ❤️
Just give IN, Dana! That baby is telling you to rest and nap whenever you please. Also, to eat a little more and make sure your vitamins are in line. The first couple of trimesters can be rough .... your energy is fairly nonexistent much of the time and, although it doesn't sound like you suffered from being sick, nausea and just feeling lousy can be a consistent theme. Just enjoy the experience, give in to the sleepiness & relax. You won't probably have a lot of relaxation for a while after your baby comes. It's wonderful, but it's so tiring. BTW, I could've been 7 1/2 months pregnant FOREVER! I felt great, I could eat whatever I wanted, I looked pregnant instead of just fat and people were super nice to me ... people love a pregnant woman. Enjoy.
Of course you’re tired! You’re living your normal days while building a new human inside you! It’s tough though, getting used to it. I was soooo exhausted during both of my pregnancies. Never got the energy boost many speak of through the second tri, but I sure hope you get it ❤️ love from Chicago to your beautiful family. Love watching your journey
Love watching you folks, and find it so relaxing to think differently. My daughter is off to college-goes by so fast on this side of things, but it seemed to take forever at the beginning. I noticed you made pickles, but did not see the canned. Did you water bath process them or are they refrigerator pickles? Trust me you do not want to get food poisoning or worse right now.
Something I was required to read and utilize while working at a day care training center was “On Talking Terms With Dogs: Calming Signals”. Its soooo helpful and I think you and Lou would love it.
Sorry it’s taken so long to say but so so so excited and happy for you both! You guys are going to make the best parents. 🥰🥰🥰 thank you for continuing to make these videos.

Awe! The belly shot in your bikini was adorable. I wanted to jump through the screen & give you a big hug ☺️ I am currently pregnant (around the same weeks as you are) with baby #2. Motherhood is a whirlwind & I wouldn’t change it for a thing. It’s also incredible seeing your partner/spouse turn into the best father to your children. A year from now you both will not be able to imagine your lives without your baby. It’s the best change we’ve ever been through 💗💗💗
Amber, you message is too cute!! Thank you so much, I am smiling ear to ear reading this. It really is such a crazy and special time already, can't imagine all the things that are coming next but so grateful and excited and ah! All the feelings ❤️ Thank you so much for sharing, and sending you and yours all our love!! ❤️
Your storytelling is truly on another level 😍 Thank you for letting us be a part of your life!
Thank you so much, Kalle!! Especially coming from you, that is high praise 🥰 sending our love!!

Dana's library haul was so wholesome, and Lou's bread- I could almost smell it through the screen! Congratulations guys on your growing family. 😘
Thank you, Holly!! Really means so much to read :) Thank you for hanging out with us via the video on these gentle loving days!! Sending our love xx

Always a fan of German Shepherd Dogs. All the very best, we began with a GSD Fur Child. Preggers Naps for the WIN!

You two are a living testament to a growth mindset. Beautiful and hopeful. Thanks for sharing! ♥️
Dana, you are positively glowing!!! So happy for you! I was EXACTLY the same--I could plop down & sleep anywhere those first few months!
Missed you guys for a long minute. Congrats and wish your family many great blessings!
Yay for library cards!!! 📚 ❤️ I felt the same way when I moved to a new city. Congratulations on your growing family. 🐶 👶🏼

It’s hard to imagine that you are in Hawaii and STILL have to drive an hour to the beach!
Next project: Find a bigger house with no steps to make it easier for the dog and a buggy, nearer the sea!

Aww that cute little bump! 😍😊😊
The bread looks wonderful!
The comments on this video are really interesting, specially the comments on vaccines.
Being famous is rough. Everyone has an opinion.
Respect to Lou and Dana that have to deal with all of it.
Beau Miles an Australian UA-camr and Educator talks a lot about exploring where you are in infinite ways. That adventure doesn't rely on travel. I thought a lot about his last upload where he talks about his book and how it could apply to my life, and I noticed that just using the different seasons for different adventures makes everything new and exciting. If you are not already following him, I could not say enough good things about him.
Like this daily vlog style more than the curated content!
So happy for you! Where can I find the recipe for the bread?
14:53 "that's bread" I giggled
Best youtube channel!
Congratulations to you both.
Your babies are gona be SO CUTE!!💕
Hey guyes, I´m super stoked about your journey and love following along. I hope it is okay to say, and I am not sure about it: the Bialetti mokka maker looks like it may be aluminium. If it is, maybe try a steel one, the aluminium is getting into the coffee and it is not healthy =)
I loved the bit about Freya watching the tennis game 🎾
beautiful as always
How beautiful
So happy and excited for you to start a family! Do you have a recipe on jarring the pickles?
Only one nap 😂 I took soo many, it’s exhausting you are growing a human lol, will you post a baby registry at some point, ide love to be able to send you something 😊
Will you be posting videos your ocean crossing?
This made me so happy 😊
LOL.. just wait, you'll find out what nesting really is in 5 more months! Grats!
A one hour commute to the beach sounds like a self-driving solar-powered car would be the dream
I needed soooo much sleep during the first trimester. It got better in the second.
Congratulations 🎉.
I want "How to honor my body but still participate in life" on a t shirt.
