Well... we did it again... changed our minds about our future plans and ended up packing up everything and moving across the world. This time though feels quite different than the big move off the boat. Now we're moving back with so much purpose and while there is still a lot of unknown, we are so grateful that we were able to make this decision with enough time to get settled before our baby's arrival (still pregnant as I write this for those of you who come hang in the description box :) - 37 weeks preggo aka full term!!) I really can't explain how lucky Freja and I are to have had Lou to go through this big transition with. He got our whole place packed up/sold tons and got me on my flight and Freja on hers.
We also are SO THANKFUL to our friends in Hawaii - especially Sarah, Nick, Mikalia, and Scott for helping us through this chaotic time in our lives. We love Maui so much and know that it will always have such a special place in our hearts. Honestly, we would love to continue to spend a lot of time in Hawaii, but for now, we are putting all our energy into setting up a stable life for our growing family, finding a piece of land to call our own, and building our dream homestead.

I wish traveling with large animals wasn't so terrible for the animal. I'm happy you made that statement about how difficult it was, because I know you had no choice but to travel with her that way, but so many might casually put their dog in cargo not realizing how difficult and sometimes dangerous it can be
Your grandchildren will sit as a candles with twilight stars in their eyes, listening to you two talking about your life and all the adventures you had. Nothing matters in the end but family, and starting your own the comfort of loved ones around is key. Freja had a ordeal for sure, but she is a sturdy dog and she seems just fine after all. I love the idea of a small farm, can't wait to follow you on your adventures ahed. Good luck with everything new!

Good thinking. I applaud you for making this move happen so quickly. Upstate NY will have its own set of challenges but raising your son there is the right thing to do, with family and close friends nearby. A 4 season climate is good for the soul too. Now.... STAY PUT! 😉

@@famihy I had no idea that was a UA-cam feature and have never been a top comment before. I don't see comments on my TV screen. I am surprised that you do. If you're looking at a phone just make a point to immediately make the video go to landscape view and avoid looking at comments till you've watched. Seems like that will solve your problem.

Upstate NY us gorgeous! It’s on my list of places I’d like to live. When I job hunt, I always look there. My aunt and uncle have lived just outside Lake Placid. My cousin, their daughter, just moved back up there with her family. 😃
Poor pup being stuck in a crate for 21 hrs 😭 She’s a trooper!!! Being around family is the best when you have little ones. Our 2 year old LOVES his cousins & grandparents. It’s priceless seeing his little face light up when they come over 😊

I had a feeling this video would be coming soon, I'm surprised it's not sooner actually! I'm glad Ghost is going with you after all the restoration work though. It's a shame the garden never fully came to fruition after such effort, hopefully there's more success when you get a new place!
Yes, we are so thrilled that we will be reunited with Ghost :) And excited to work on more gardening in the years to come, the skills we learned in HI were a great learning, even if we will of course need to adapt for planting in a different climate of course 😊 Hope you are having a wonderful Sunday, Andie!!

I love that you had compassion for your parents and recognized how important it is to be close in proximity. We raised our littles far from extended family and it was very hard. Now our sons and their children all live within an hours drive (one only 3 miles away). We get the blessing of their company for both short and long visits. They get the blessing of never having hired a sitter. But more than that, we have been able to be our own small community - generation learning from generation.
Okay cried when you left Hawaii when Lou and Freja left Hawaii and then cried a lot when Lou and Freja finally got to Ct. So grateful you are closer to the family, so grateful that Freja got through the trip and she loved Windy's toys and fingers crossed that you will find the land of your dreams. Love you, love the video, and big hats off, and thank you to Sarah for helping and Lou for managing to always juggle everything so calmly !. Can't wait to see Ghost's new paint job
Dear Dana, Lou, baby and Freja,
I am so happy for you guys! I remember when you guys did the Q&A, I asked if you would be having the baby in Hawaii... Back then I asked my question because I thought it was really brave of you guys to have this baby "solo". Specially knowing that you guys have such a cool family. I am so glad you guys decided to have a baby around family, not only because the baby will have more people to cuddle with, but because you, Dana, will have more support in such a life changing experience. (Just to be clear, I do think you and Lou are more than capable to do it by yourselves, but extra hands and love are always welcome)
I have been living abroad for nearly 10 years. Left Brazil when I was 20, and I am turning 30 in May. Even though my experiences are not "wild we roam" style, I have been hoping from country to country every 1/1,5 year, and now that the 30s are coming, I have finally a stable relationship, and like you want to have dogs and kids, I think I need to have MY place, not necessarily owned by me, but at least a place where I can offer stability to my future kids and dogs. And the fact that this is probably happening in Europe, where I have been for the past 4 years, it kind of scares me. I love it here, but it is sad to think that the baby won't grow around my family, or eat the same snacks I ate, or the baby only getting the brazilian culture through MY eyes, and not from their own eyes... that somehow makes me sad.
All this to say that I am so happy you and Lou are not afraid of changing plans! I am glad you made this decision, specially if it is what seems to make the most sense now. And if next sunday the video is about you guys moving to India, I will be glad too! Because you guys are following what you heart asks you to do it! The thought I had about you guys being brave to have the baby "solo" continues. You guys are so brave and committed to your truth. Wishing you guys all the best! I hope you guys are rest now. I just lost my job of 16 years and I've been living in California for 20 years. I experienced so much joy, heartbreak, excitement and adventure here that there isn't much left for me to do here. I traveled the world and become a licensed skydiver out here. Interesting timing for this video to drop while I am also transitioning into my next chapter. Dealing with the anxiety of the unknown future is what is the hardest. When you get in your comfort zone, it's hard to get out of it. I am also moving back to my home state to be closer to my mom and my friends I grew up with. As you get older, you realize family is priority #1 always. Best of luck you guys.
You guys continue to be a huge motivation and proof for anyone watching that anything is possible. That no amount of administrative and logistic problems (my typical source of stress) or just fear of change or discomfort should stop you from living your best life, making changes and fulfilling your dreams. you guys are so special! my sister is 5 months pregnant and lives in argentina (i live in brazil), she just left from visiting for easter and i told her about this channel and how much Dana reminds me of her. we talked about how difficult it is to be away from family specially when a baby is on the way... this video hit very close to home. so happy lou and freya made it home! ps i balled my eyes out watching freya and dana reuniting

The really cool part about all of this is that one day your kid will be able to rewatch all of this and see who their parents are and where! Like how cool to say “my parents have travelled the world” 🌍

Did you fill the truck up with some of the items you want to bring home? They let ppl load up camper vans when they ship them, you probably could get a LOT into the cab of Ghost!
I think I would've forgone packing huge suitcases and put a lot of my clothing into the truck ... you only need so many clothes for a few weeks....
Besides everything else, Freya without a leash and so well behaved, congratulations. What a nightmare with the airline, happy to hear you are all doing well.

So happy you are back home with family Ever since I married my husband I have lived at least 12 hours away from my family I didn’t have my mom near me when I had my children, birthdays, most holidays snd during sickness…it’s been 29 years So many people live far from family…the old days people stayed together snd raised each other snd family was everything! I think that is a big part of what’s wrong with today’s society
I’m excited for your new adventure, but I have to say this vlog had me sad. 😭 I haven’t moved, but having my close family and friends move away from me has been heart breaking. I definitely remember all the feelings. So glad Freya made it ok. Our flight back from Hawaii to the east coast, earlier this year, was brutal! I can’t imagine what it would have been like being in a crate for that many hours for a dog. 😢 Poor baby. Looking forward to all to come for you all!

I went to Iao on one of my last days on the island, too! A truly magical place. 💗 All of the work you went through to leave Maui is so familiar - the packing and shipping, cleaning the vehicle and taking it to the ferry terminal. It’s expensive but so worth it. I was so excited when the truck pulled up with my car!
I moved back to the mainland to be close to all of my children, so I get the family connection piece, too. Love and best wishes for your new adventures! 💗

So happy for you guys! As someone who lives in a different state as the rest of my family, I can say it really is hard having your child grow up with little to no other family members around. Unfortunately California is way too expensive to move back to but I am glad family visits when they can and video chat all the time. Great decision you made!
Also I am very curious where Lou got your maternity yoga shorts from ? They look so comfy and I am in need of some, pregnant with our second child due in November 😊 can’t wait to see these new changes!!

I had a big smile seeing Dana reunite with Lou and Freya. It's so stressful when our animals have to travel or go through some sort event where the owner doesnt have control. Glad you guys all made it safe and sound. Cant wait to see the next chapter 🙂

I'm so happy for your sweet little family and the for beautiful decision you both have made to put down roots back near your family to raise your baby! Poor Freja and her stressful trip but it is over now and she seemed like she was just a "little" bit happy to see her momma when she got to New York!! You will all be having so many new adventures with setting up your new homestead and lifestyle with a child to raise. I'm continuing to send prayers for Dana and baby's safe birth and delivery and for your new homestead to come into your lives asap. Lou is such a fantastic and caring husband ... I'm looking forward to seeing him as the amazing Dad he will naturally be with his little one!

Agree with travelling with a large dog. We brought our dog back from Hawaii too and he was on the plane for 16 hours with one or two layovers. I paid an extra $50 a day to have them take him out for pees and feed him. But they decided to hold him at one of the airports an extra night and charge me, without letting me know and our relative that was supposed to put him up. Oh and they also had to fly him home a week early since only certain planes could hold the crate cargo. Really frustrating but happy he’s home with us now ❤️

I want to rent your place. Maui is my home, it's where all my friends raised their children, and there are many excellent private schools. Grandparents love coming frequently, it was never a problem. It's not a jungle, it's a tropical island.
But my Family's from Hawaii so I have lived there and visited my entire life..I'm so homesick I could cry every day from it. I loved your place. Aloha, have a good move. I hope that, at this stage, you'll lose your intense restlessness. Best of everything to you

The best choice if possible is having family members around to help out with the baby. My family traveled 7 hours by car to stay with my sister for a week or two every other month. Especially around the due date.
