Great review. One of my favorite bags. I just need it in 500D for wear with everything so it doesn’t damage any of my tops. Having the clamshell makes it pack so well and it fits quite a bit but looks slim on the back.
Well, disregard my previous comment on the Evergoods CPL28 V2. I found out the GR1 Slick was back in stock and ordered the 26L, sold my Urban Grey GR1 on eBay. The best version of this pack for me is the understated slick version. Doesn’t look as tactical but you get the undeniable build quality of Go Ruck. 👍🏻
This is what I'm talking about. I have been eyeing the GR1 for months. I'm hesitant to pull the trigger on the Vietnam packs because, well, I'd prefer to keep my money here in the states and I'm reading mixed reviews on colors and buckle performance. I've never seen this version of the GR1 though. I'm with you, I like the pack even more without the tactical webbing. Man, I hope they restock, I will totally pull the trigger on this pack. Thanks for introducing me to something new. Great work!!
awesome video and review. to the point with great delivery and just the right amount of humor. those tours to Cancun were dangerous! got you a new subscriber!
You might also like the Zero Cabin Military 44l backpack. After tons of searches (which often lead me to your great reviews) i stumbled upon those, and so far it fits my needs perfectly. Stay happy and healthy Sir!
Just love your review, man! Really helpful, down to the point and detailed. After watching your video, I'm a happy owner of this backpack now. Keep up the good work!
Man I love your channel. I stumbled across it last week looking for different bag reviews. I'm looking for the perfect backpack and you're helping me out. Thanks!
I have two of the GR1 slicks. Both are older US made, and one has no structure to it. Sk26 and SD25. I like them because they aren't tacti-cool, and I'm medically retired from the Army.
Any noticeable wear on clothes from the 1000D ? All the bags i got now are made of lighter/weaker material.....been itching to pull the trigger on a gr1 but a handful of user reviews about 1000D rippin up clothes have been making me hesitate.
I love my gr1 huckberry slick bags! For me, the 21l is a better size in general, but I woudlnt' hesitate to take that 26l traveling when the pandemic cools down.
I look at the Go Ruck, and then look at my Blackhawk 3 Day Assault Pack, which I bought in 1985 for $130, and yes, I know its 34L vs 26L, but for more capacity and less money, the GRs doesn't seem a good value for me. I know the Blackhawk lacks organization and the back panel doesn't have ventilation(which wouldve been crazy talk back then), but it's my ride or die. Thanks for sharing. One.
I have a GR1 26L bag and it is awesome. The slash pocket in front is kind of bad, I agree. The slick version is pretty cool, thanks for the review. Do you keep a list of your unicorns?
IT'S BACK!!!! I think... on 10-1-20 the GR1 Slick 26L is available on the Huckberry website. Now I am trying to convince myself to spend the $295. I will be paying for simplicity and durability & US Made. $300 for a back pack?!?!?!?! But the money is ready... IMHO
Hello George big fan of your channel wanted ask if the Gr1 slicks top handle is thinner than the original gr1 as it looks slightly thinner also is the backing of the bag/ padding of shoulder straps any different from the original besides the molle webbing not being their i'm asking as I just ordered the slick gr1 21L as it looks better (attracts less attention) but hoping its as good structurally as the original. Also wanted to ask as you had the bag for year have you had any issues with the bag besides the front pocket such as zipper rubber coating coming off? thanks Alex :)
I just have a real problem putting my water bottle in with my items in the main compartment. Thats a hard no for me. Im REALLY liking the able carry max but wish it had a 2nd compartment.
Important to note that the goruck "molle/pals" is not true to spec Molle/Pals kit; Goruck has their bartacks spaced at 2", where the milspec in 1.5". This affects compatibility with non-goruck products.
Ok Mr. George I’m thinking about the Goruck 20l small frame. Daily carry what are your thoughts? Thank you. I’m a small guy 5’7” 155 lbs I don’t need a really big bag
Great review! I love my GR1 as my dedicated gym bag. But knowing nothing about bag manufacturing...how hard could it be to stitch a freaking exterior water bottle pocket?!
Luke Paulson it wouldn’t be hard at all for them to put one on it, but IMHO Goruck has no interest in being “that kind of bag” go to their website on really pay attention to what is going on and you’ll see what they are really about. The Goruck is more a workout companion than a bag for daily use, sure you can use it that way, but that’s not what they have in mind. A water bottle pocket would just be in the way.
After this "Streamlined" version, an exterior water bottle pocket would be the next step... I have never figured out how to clean a bladder... I would have to use the bladder every day, I guess, or the water's going to be old, and then what do you do? I like the GR1 because I tend to lose and forget stuff in a back pack. So the simplicity and clamshell style is great! Maybe they could just put a little molle on the sides and shoulder straps, and then the Goruck water bottle holder can just go on a little bit of dedicated molle? Just a little... IMHO
Joe Morton the GORUCK is not really meant as an “everyday” bag, it’s not designed that way in the least. Sure you can use it as one, you can use any bag as an everyday bag that you want. Some are built better for that purpose than others are, giving the weight plates, which are designed to fit the “laptop” slot and the things people are “training” for while wearing that bag, I don’t believe everyday carry was what they had in mind or designed it for. Having stuff “hanging” on the outside of the bag is another “snag” point while training with the bag. I wouldn’t hold my breath waiting for them to change the design more aimed at everyday carry...they may design another bag more aimed for that purpose, but I wouldn’t wait for them to change their main “workout bag” for that purpose. Don’t expect the main bag to become more geared for everyday carry, that’s not its initial design purpose in the first place, that’s why it’s on the smaller more streamlined side of bags in the first place. They have events yearly based around “strongman” competition wearing that bag... not slipping a laptop in it and hanging a water bottle on the side. It’s a streamlined bag for a different purpose, not EDC.
@@david78212 Do the people in the competitions have a use for the "Bomb Proof" computer compartment? I for one am thinking of the GR1 for EDC... All the videos I am looking at reviewing it call it EDC... I don't like my cheapo back pack for EDC, I just never knew why I would want to pay more then $20.. For $300 I hope the Goruck folks have an Idea of who buys the GR1, as some videos suggest They think Goruck may Gooutofbusiness... Probably not, but they pay marketers the big buck for a reason... And with a target market of Athletes hydration might be important. I think just 4 molle straps on the GR1 Slick would be good to hold a water bottle. IMHO
@@Freddy-Da-Freeloadah you've never been to the GORUCK website have you? They have designed a "sandbag" for training, and they have how you can keep on training while on lockdown. Not how you can still carry your laptop while on lockdown. Like I said, you can use any bag for EDC that you want, but don't expect to much out of GoRuck for that purpose. Just because a bunch of people use it for EDC, doesn't mean that's what they had in mind when it was designed. Until you have gone around their website for awhile, you can't convince me otherwise.
“I did 2 tours in Cancun” 🤣🤣🤣💀💀💀
😏
Best pack reviewer out there hands down
Great review George! I have both the GR1 26L & GR2 40L & love them both. The GR1 is my daily carry & short trip bag. The GR2 is for longer trips.
"Charlie don't surf" "George don't ruck"
Great review. I just found this channel. Good stuff!
"George don't ruck!" That's funny AF!
HAHAHA 🤣
You took the words right out of my mouth!

Thanks for another great review. Ordered my 26 tonight 👍
Looks like a good snag less pack, nothing hanging off it to get caught on something in the car, plane or in the woods. Thanks for the review George.
The new Coyote colorway from Huckberry makes this the absolute best backpack available in my book.
Great review! I appreciate that you call out all the packing cubes and organizers that you use in the review as well.
awesome video and review. to the point with great delivery and just the right amount of humor. those tours to Cancun were dangerous! got you a new subscriber!
I love my GR1 but I gotta say, without the MOLLE, I think this is one of the slickest bags out there now. I hope they run another sale soon!

With the eyeglasses, that character was giving off some Cedric the Entertainer vibes. You're just missing the fedora hat.

Get a regular GR1. If you want to go low-viz, slap a JanSport patch on it.
What are your thoughts on the Market Backpack from Mystery Ranch? Its waterproof and seems comfy for a daypack
For me is ok.. i easing into the tote look.
Ok Mr. George I’m thinking about the Goruck 20l small frame. Daily carry what are your thoughts? Thank you. I’m a small guy 5’7” 155 lbs I don’t need a really big bag
I think the standard frame would fit a little better imo. Unless you have a really narrow frame
Huckleberry offers a 500d version. I wonder if that version would be more comfortable and less abrasive on clothing.
I would think so.. I don't think that version was out when. I got mine..
Just got mine and man...slick as hell..pun intended
They have a 500 D version now 🤯
This is soo cool! :D
Does the backpack rip your shirts? I’m thinking of using for work but don’t know whether to get 500d or 100d cordura
It doesn't rip them its just makes pill up.. you know little balls on your clothes?? I want try the 500d version
I’m cheap with airfare. So anything bigger than 18” x 14” x 8” is a no-go for me 😭
You should do a comparison with this and the Evergoods CPL 28
🔥🔥🔥🔥
Not exactly related but have you reviewed the Mystery Ranch Rip Ruck 15 vs the GoRuck Bullet 15L?
I haven't but my money is on the bullet..
@@GeorgeDEFINED Thanks! That's what I'm thinking too... I just ordered one :) I love my other GR bags so I'm sure that one will fit right in.
Can you also make a review of Goruck GR3, the new follower of GR2.
I would love I have been interested in the gr3 for a while. .
If you can pick only 1 pack for 10 years from goruck gr1 26l / Vanquest ibex 26 / mystery ranch 3 days assault ?
What is your answer ?
Goruck..lol
Hi George have you done a review on the GR2 yet?
No I haven't gotten my hands on it yet..
@@GeorgeDEFINED I think you will really like the 34 litre version. Great to get your opinion though.
Any advice on deciding between the 21 and 26L? Thanks!
If your over 6' I would go with the 26 or if you carry a lot or want to travel with it. Just my 🪙🪙
@@GeorgeDEFINED thanks!
Are you willing to sell the Paper thin?
Is it worth the $100 premium over the normal gr1? Im going to convert it into a camera pack for world travel post covid.
Nope.. get the regular one.. both are great.. I'm just a backpack fanboy.
@@GeorgeDEFINED man I was disappointed to find out the GR1 I ordered was an overseas model with pretty bad zippers and no returns allowed.
😂😂great intro
What's your thoughts on the 500d gr1 huckberry has.
Love it!
Are you going to do YETI's dry bags?
I would love to.. there are so many packs out there..
GR2 40L review?
What are your favorite packs under $200?
Alpha One Niner Evade 1.5 Full $195..

I might have something cooking in the pot..lol
A great pack, however abrasive to everything it touches. Maybe any tips on how to deal with the toughness for us EDC guys out there?
I have watched way too many GR1 reviews.
Probably one the best packs ever made.. imho
