I'm glad you like the 3 day assault. It's not a pack that I would use for anything but hiking or back country work, but it's durable. I've always found the 26L GR1 to be perfect for 80% of the uses I would need it for.
I love how the coyote brown looks on the slick version 😍, wish they would make it 500d! Im trying to replace my bullet grey Gr1 26l that got stolen from my truck a few weeks ago and the weight was the only thing i disliked about it but it was such an awesome bag that i didn’t care for it, 500d would make it perfect. I guess.
agree 100%. I would pick up this pack if they made it in 500D. The other option I have thought about is if they made it with the 210 back panel like the new Bullet and Rucker, then the rest of the bag could be 1000d.
to be honest I don't think they should make it a 500d but they should keep the 1000d or even go 1650d ballistics nylon 6/6 aand make the back panel & straps inside 210d or 500d. Which they do in rucker 4.
Great review (and channel). The on-body shot was helpful. I like seeing how bags look being worn, both with a light EDC load, as well as packed full for travel. Seems like few can fill both roles effectively, without looking/feeling awkward when compressed down. This might be the case for the 3dap...still looking forward to the review.
For me the bag I own that does "both" the best is the Recycled Firefighter 24HR Plus. It looks slick both packed out and compressed. Sucks that it looks weird on their website because in person it looks great! The 3Dap also looks great in both situations in my opinion but the issue is whether or not you're one, big enough to pull it off for edc and two, can get away with the look during daily life. On a real trip (airplane included) I'd pack the RF 12hr from the video inside the 3Dap for when I arrived.
Yeah RF never really appealed to me, but the 24hr in your review definitely looked nicer than I would’ve expected. Might have to take a closer look... I currently have a 2dap that I’m hoping can fill the “both” role, but haven’t had a chance to use it much yet. IMO one of the classic examples of this type of bag are TNF models like the borealis. Reasonably compact with just a laptop inside, but expands to fit quite a bit of stuff. As far as a bag-in-a-bag scenario, I used a Chrome MXD fathom as a day bag for an Asia trip and loved it. Just enough space to fit all the essentials. Might be too minimal for some though, especially if carrying a bulkier item like a camera.
Sounds about right! I can definitely say that the RF bags (at least I can speak for the ones I own) feel and look better in person than they do on their site. This is especially true for the "Plus" bags. As for the other minimal travel bags I've used that can do double duty I think this 26L Goruck can do a good job it just sits on my bag a lot bigger than the RF 24hr Plus. I have the Synapse 25 which is great at this (very similar to that North Face you referenced) but the look certainly isn't for all. The Wandrd PRVKE does great at both but again, the look isn't for everything. I guess, as they say, there is no perfect bag ;)
Yeah you’re right. Had the Prvke too but sold it. Wasn’t bad, but felt like it was sitting kinda far out from my back. Almost like I was carrying a box. But thanks for the feedback. I’ll keep your recommendations in mind 👍
Nice video, I’ve got the goruck gr1 26l version and it’s perfect for 3/4 days trip, pretty minimalist design and easy to pack (Tetris like you said). What packing cubes are you using ? I’m digging a mystery ranch bag a bit bigger than my gr1 for a week trip, I love the 3 zip system 👌
The MR three zips are great ;) in use they are a lot more useful than you'd think just looking at them. The packing cubes are a Korea only exclusive from NatGeo. They come from a set with an Xpac travel brief/backpack.
Hello! Love the review. Super helpful. I just ordered one from huckberry. Exact same specs too! Do you have any ‘candid’ photos of this bag? Because apart from this video, all the other images of this bag are the stock photos. Where it looks too perfect. And almost computer generated, to a certain extent. I’m trying to visualize it without filters and color correction. I checked your IG, but no luck there either. Thanks in advance!
It's never been an issue for me. I don't wear a lot of suits nowadays so it's not an issue. I also find the Coyote 1000D is less abrasive than the black. Also, they make a 500D version of the slick which wouldn't be nearly as abrasive ;)
@@jtinseoul7041 Thanks for the reply. I would actually hope that Goruck would implement 210ht material for the GR1 backpanel /underneath shoulders as well in the future. Would be even better than 500D imo
My guess is because the GR1s are all moving back to being built in America you won't see it for a while. Seems to me that the newer materials will be reserved for the Vietnam products for a while at least. Just a guess, though.
I think people often assume that all 1000D Cordura is the same. In reality they differ from batch to batch, colour to colour. My regular GR1 feels different than my slick and they both feel different than any of my 1000D Recycled Firefighter / Kletterwerks bags. Ironically my GR1 1000D feels identical to the 1000D on my Mystery Ranch UA21.
No worries ;) Was thinking about doing a review on it since it's cheap and has been good to me. Most tech pouches are too fat for my tastes or packing style. I have a review coming on a couple of other tech pouches coming soon so maybe I'll throw it in the mix ;)
I see those Goruck GR 1's on Ebay for over €400 !.. not including shipping.Sellers going on about 1000 D cordura, USA !! , Molly webbing !!!... like it's the rarest silk !. People bidding like crazy for used ones going up past €300 ... I mean, why not just buy a new one from the company you mention ?..
I think it's a little like collecting stamps or toy trains. To some, they are all tin trains. To others, well, they aren't all the same ha. Normally with GORUCKs rare colours or styles (Bullet 15 2 Compartment, GR2 26L) tend to command the price of a train set made by Eugene Marklin himself.
Also just watched your most recent water colour video. Very nice. My wife is a painter so it was cool to watch. She looked over my shoulder and said "morning sun rays aren't easy at all." In any event, was a fun watch :)
Haha, trash can might be harsh but I get where you're coming from. I wish I were taller so I could rock the 26L Slick as an edc. Great bag though, and looking forward to traveling with it next week.
@@jtinseoul7041 Haha, I'm not tall either (5'11") but generally a bigger guy (245 lbs). I think the 21L would just look odd on me. Just picked up the 26L Slick in Coyote off Huckberry and should have it by Satuday. Didn't know I was a "bag nerd" until I stumbled upon Goruck about 2 months ago. Good deal. Colored goruck is on my mind. Black is nice but everything disappears or hard to see.
Definitely. I tend to use RF bags a lot because of the lining. This for sure does the trick!
Black is also mostly a no go for me because of the cats, ha.

The 1000D fabric on the Slick is softer compared to other Goruck 1000D in my experience.

From Huckberry? From Huckberry it takes around 4-5 days to arrive in Korea. From Goruck, maybe slightly faster ;)
The Mystery Ranch looks like a tactical trash can. For an EDC bag, the GR1 is a way more elegant design.
