  • After my 'why zoella's channel died' and 'why alfie deyes' channel died video' today we take at a look at another youtuber who has dropped off, Tyler Oakley. Tyler Oakley is someone that has been on the platform for a very time, not really been exposed for too much and has done videos with creators you know like Jenna Marbles and Zoella, so why is he losing 20,000 subs a month?

    A RESPONSE TO THE COMMENTS ABOUT TYLERS TWEETS!!!!!!!!! READ THIS BEFORE YOU GET ANGRY ABOUT WHAT I WAS TRYNA SAY BC I MOST LIKELY AGREE WITH YOU
    POLITICS: I was a bit nervous in some of the reasons i spoke about in this due to the sensitivty to if i didn't clarify clearly why they effected tyler , let me give a final explanation. I think if youtubers state who they're voting for, they may take heat but their channel will be fine. But if UA-camr's dwelve deep into politics despite being a vlogging/entertainment channel then they will lose subscribers and that happened with tyler. I don't care he voted for Hilary, wouldn't care if he voted for Trump, it's a fact people didn't subscribe for politics they subscribed for entertainment. Hope you understand where I'm coming from.
    RACE: With the race related tweets, i think more people were mad at the fact he was so stubborn and ignorant he wasn't willing to debate people and express his opinions, i don't even think his opinion was THAT bad in full context, but just the way he presented it was moronic.
    And the other ones such a people getting bored by him + him going way too mainstream i think i explained well enough, so ya ty :)

    Honestly, Tyler's channel died because he tried to hit the mainstream so hard. He did, but in doing so, he lost the realness that most UA-camrs have and what people like about UA-cam.

      I did like him. I dont really know why he doesnt interest me anymore? Maybe he only appeals to kids? Because of his positivity and the simplistic way he describes stories of his life. Obviously his audience grew up but i think the reason he doesn’t appeal to kids today is because kids today think its cool to be rich, famous or attractive. They want to have the lifestyle these people have eg. team 10, david dobrik. But people back then rarely showed off.

      Osoro Shidesu even if he had good content, he never changed it to evolve with his audience. The same content can only entertain people for so long, it’s why youtubers like Shane Dawson and Pewdiepie are still around. Obviously they’re extremely popular and wouldn’t completely die off so quickly, but because they evolved their persona and videos with their audience they are still relevant and have a large following in modern UA-cam.

    I think this video has the cause and effect backward. His channel was steadily dying before he sold out to mainstream traditional media. His young fans grew out of watching him, and he didn't attract new young fans because his content was stale.
    To me, it looks like he sold out to mainstream media as means of starting a second career and trying to draw attention back to his channel. This video says selling out caused the decline, but I think it's the other way around.

    Honestly, Tyler was boring from the very start but I feel like his prime was like 2013-2014/2015 when he did videos with Troye Sivan, Connor Franta, Dan and Phil and all those guys (that were severely more popular and entertaining than him) and when he basically fed off of bigger youtubers audiences. His prime was when all the older teens now were young and impressionable and, dare I say it, cringey young teens who idolized those types of youtubers. And now all of them grew up and grew bored of the content and he doesn’t know how to make other content to cater to them or everyone, which, in turn, is ultimately killing his channel.

    I’m a liberal, democratic, gay guy. Tyler’s views don’t offend me because I share most of them, but what offends me is deserting your fanbase and platform because the appeal of being on TV is bigger. All this despite TV being a step backwards in time and relevancy. Not for me thanks 👏🏻
    I used to watch Tyler ALL the time, every video, because I liked his content, probably still would now, I was 20 then and am 25 now so I haven’t really “grown out” of it... but I stopped watching and unsubbed when he jumped over to TV. I’m from the U.K., I don’t watch American tv, I don’t even watch British TV. Going from something relevant like the internet and moving backwards onto normal TV is stupid. TV is not what young adults watch, why would I spend time scrolling and finding something on TV to “settle” on when I can watch Netflix, Prime, UA-cam and watch something I CHOOSE to watch, when I want to watch it? TV is dead.

      People start to find them boring or meet new youtubers or likes...this happened to me with Reaction Time and Kyutie, I used to watch them everyday from school (not kyutie because she posted at night for me) but I stopped watching them because I met new youtubers and stuff, don't get me wrong I still like them but I just don't watch them anymore...I'm glad their personalities didn't turn fake af like other youtubers tho, This is one of the reasons people stopped watching Tyler another reason because Troyler is gone (Which is very stupid imo)

      It's pretty normal for people's interests to change, especially when we're talking about people who watch UA-cam on a regular basis (mostly younger people, kids/teens/young adults). I joined UA-cam almost 10 years ago now and I don't watch any of the channels I subscribed to back then anymore and a lot of the stuff I find interesting now I would've never bothered to watch back then.

    I disagree with you on the argument of attraction and preference.
    I used to say that I didn’t find black people attractive, and that is shameful of me. I literally wrote off millions upon millions of people based on their skin colour and said I wouldn’t find a single one among them to be attractive. Do you not see how stupid that is? I reflected on that opinion of mine, realised I was literally being racially prejudiced, and can genuinely say that I HAVE found many black people to be attractive since then. You cannot say that you do not find an entire race unappealing if you haven’t seen every person of that race and decided that each one is unattractive. It is moronic.
    I am gay, I genuinely believe I was born gay, I spent a good part of my teenage years depressed and wishing/praying to NOT be gay. It was not a choice.
    Preference is not a choice per se, but I do not accept that it is the same as sexuality. I think society and socially constructed “norms” DO have a strong influence on what somebody should find attractive, and I think my primarily white upbringing taught me to find white people more attractive. Thankfully I do not believe this any more.

    • @cracky-patty113
      @cracky-patty113 3 роки тому

      Hey I love your username! Very positive lol.
      I totally agree “preference” is literally just how and where you were raised. A lot of people make decisions about who their partners will be and what they look like based on many factors like religion, culture, raised in predominantly black, white or Asian (etc) communities. Going to high school really opened my eyes to all the kinds of people there are in the world, and so many more. I find culture and religion really holds people down tho in their preferences, where I live most people who are Christian or catholic are white and usually this means a lot of people feel the need to marry or date people of that race and religion, the same here with people who are Muslim, they mostly tend to marry people of the same religion and ethnicity as them. Of course this isn’t wrong in anyway but I always wonder about the pressure religion puts on romantic and sexual relationships.

    I stopped following him because many reasons one is that his personality in his videos feel so fake like he’s too happy for me I love Shane Dawson because you see the good, the bad, and the ugly of himself but with Tyler i don’t know him at all and another reason is the tweet that really shocked me because if you mean that, that mean gay people are sexist because we don’t like being with women and the tweet didn’t make sense and maybe that’s why people stopped following him.

    i think his channel died because he didn’t have proper subscribers. he used to do this think called “auguest” where he’d collab with loads of youtubers and it’s when he’d gain the most subscribers. he was never really that captivating. when he stopped collabing with people, people lost interest. so when he popped up in their recommended they unsubscribed cuz the content they were used to/wanted were his collabs.

    Topics aside! Remember, UA-cam it's not only about entertainment and for that matter, there are independent reporters that do a good job being different from mainstream media whether the party they are. I feel that Tyler wanted to be more than just a UA-camr as you just implied with all the fame thing, and it's sad that it's not working for him anymore, just looking at his current views... Wow! But yes, you are right. He basically forgot that he WAS a youtuber and just left aside his niche, therefore, with the changes that UA-cam has had...he was left behind in comparison to the current and new youtubers.
    Yikes! It's hard being in this platform and survive, also staying true to yourself. My respects for those that do well so lol

    Actually I do watch political UA-camrs for the politics, because they usually list their sources and give their opinions. I distrust the news and having a person talking makes it feel a lot more transparent.
    The problem is non political UA-camrs pushing politics on an audience that didn't subscribe for it, or changing content too much in general.

    • @kavyasundar7240
      @kavyasundar7240 6 років тому +15

      Miss Niyuu same I feel like these famous youtubers are pushing the liberal propaganda to maintain their fame. I swear deep down they don't think like that. However, political youtubers wether right or left gives me the ability to make my own opinions without getting politics shoved at me. I really like how they present sources. The most relevant UA-camr would have to be Phil DeFranco since he's much more reliable than any news source, which honestly is sad.

    • @mink5251
      @mink5251 6 років тому +1

      Miss Niyuu - Exactly! The thing is though I will only watch political videos from channels that only do political content. I can't trust a mainstream UA-camr to provide unbiased information on politics.. It's sad that that's the reality of it.

    • @doommagic

      Kavya Sundar Phil is awesome! He's my go to a lot of the time when it comes to news because he's not mainstream media, who will all too often try to paint a biased narrative in one direction or another. Instead Phil will simply explain the political subjects and then give his personal opinion on them, and he always cites his sources. I'll very often find myself agreeing with him because he's very logical about his reasoning behind why he thinks a certain way, but he never tries to push his own opinions on his audience and always asks us what we think about matters because he really is curious to know. As he always says, "it's a conversation", he's not talking just to hear himself talk.

    Aw Tyler! I used to love his videos back in the day, he was my favourite for a long time due to how down to earth he is and he used his platform to raise awareness for charities and important issues as well as being entertaining. As someone who used to watch his channel I actually liked the fact he knew celebrities and was collabing with them as I thought was so cool that youtube could bring opportunities like that to people I enjoyed watching and he always still came across very down to earth and himself when interacting with them. I also liked the fact he used his platform and his voice to bring attention to important issues that I wouldn't normally quite understand the jargon used on the news and mainstream media, it was easier to learn important issues from someone I felt more inclined to listen to (if that makes sense ha!) and found interesting and connected with. For me personally, I do agree as a viewer I did get bored eventually of his channel, like I did with most of the main british youtubers, their channels didn't really evolve or they didn't I'm not entirely sure which but I felt like as I got older I just out grew their content and found more people to watch that I just preferred more instead. Great video! It really got me thinking a lot about this :)

    Dan and Phil have pretty much stayed relevant while interacting with celebs/being radio 1 hosts/being interviewers at the brits/writing books etc. I think the fact they keep their opinions about politics and mainstream celebs/drama to themselves is the reason they didn’t die off like Tyler, because they haven’t changed that much and when they have, it’s been such a subtle and smooth change that no one noticed

      Their dynamic also helps a lot. With Dan being the darker edgy one and Phil being the little sunshine it just WORKS. It's a classic duo and it's entertaining. They work so well as friends and as entertainers that they can keep their audience. They stay goofy and tease eachother instead of just becoming bland and "humbly" flaunting what they have like Tyler did with his fancy car and the fans lining the road. They're funny, uplifting guys with a good dynamic. A perfect duo.

    • @harukuroma376
      @harukuroma376 6 років тому +28

      Heathen i think those fans grew up to appreciate what Dan howell and Phil Lester are as content creators and humans. Sure the phandom helped a lot but it wouldn't survive if D&P stayed and acted like Taylor . They matured enough, for Dan to rebrand himself, talk about depression, doing tours that are ACTUALLY entertaining, putting content that THEY like without care of the deadline like some of these youtubers do "upload daily" "weekly" "every other day". They are basically like Ryan Higa, they never changed drastically but the change was subtle just like Higa's content. For my Ryan Higa and D&P will always be one of my favourite youtubers, they just light up your day when they upload a video.

    I used to be a huge fan of Tyler! Around 2014-2015 I had a fan account for him and was actively in the Tyler Oakley fandom. I started noticing around the beginning of 2016 that people were leaving the fandom one by one, and slowly but surely it disappeared. I guess everyone lost interest around the same time, I don’t really remember why I left, I just got kinda tired of it. I talked to some friends and they had the same reasoning. I feel like there are many reasons why people don’t follow him much anymore, but I saw that a lot of people just lost interest.
