Did Gabbie Hanna Manipulate Me?

  • Gabbie Hanna seems to not be leaving the youtube drama lately, mainly because of an interview i did with her the other week. Now after that interview a lot of comments were saying that I was manipulated by gabbie or played by her, and also some commentators like Angelika Oles pointed out that Gabbie Hanna also contradicted herself a lot in the interview which i'm gonna discuss.

Angelika, got mad respect for the way you handled all of this. I honestly believe that you would have seen right through her bullshit a lot faster than Fraizer. She hand picked Frazier for these reasons: 1. He's Male. 2. He is extremely courteous. 3. He has zero idea about the makeup industry. I love iNabber but I do believe he was manipulated. He says that he was not, but then says, "...I didn't see these until a few days after the interview..." Well that's because she manipulated him. I'm sure like so many of us, you saw this as you watched the video, not a few days after the fact. Her sneak disses towards you were a way for her to feel like she had an upper hand, and is all the proof I need to see that she is threatened by you. She could not get away with her hair flipping, flirtatious giggling, buttering up her interviewer and overall contradiction/bold faced lies. She wanted a soft interview in order to be able to use it as a PR move. She wanted to spin a narrative that favored her, and she almost accomplished that, except some of us can smell her bullshit from a mile away.

@Long Schnozzed Tribesman big difference between being on the fence because you're trying to make everyone happy and being impartial by looking at both sides of a story. No one stans a close minded person conducting an interview because they have a personal agenda to go after someone. It's an interview, not an interrogation or debate. In that setting, having the ability to try to understand the other perspective is wise. Being unbiased isn't a bad thing.

They could have used that to get much better brushes at the drug store. At the end of the day she profited off of her own fans being ripped off. I don't think she gives a shit bout that. I think you did good but you could have pressed further about things that she contradicted herself with, and things that she was wrong with, for example angelika’s video was not hate, it was criticism, and should have never called them hate channels in the first place. I also wish you could have mentioned about her comment “manage your expectations” which she basically blamed her fans and seemed condescending. I also think she should have at least watched your videos you did on her before doing the interview, I mean when you reach out to someone wouldn’t you want to know their opinion on you before doing something like that? Other than that I liked your interview but the only content I will ever watch of Gabbie’s is her honestly music video because I relate to that song because of my ex. Actually I might just find a lyric video so I won’t even give her the views and money. I’m glad you recognized that you messed up with your “complaining and attacking” comment because none of the other channels who made videos of her did that, so thank you.

  • @edwinsgeneration
    @edwinsgeneration 5 років тому +283

I actually agree with your original opinion of suggesting her not to watch the video due to the clean slate impression. I don't see what it could have changed other than prepared her for questions. I wasn't confused when I saw that part everyone got mad at her for. Saying she's familiar with your content can be possible without having watched your latest video. I do however disagree with Tana not being manipulative. She has been called out for this more than a few times. I think in hindsight she DOES regret it, but c'mon man.. she's done sponsorships with that edubirdie, i think it's called? The website that writes school essays for you. She doesn't actually care about what she's selling to her audience as long as it makes her money and she's proved it more than a few times. Sure she's not on the same scale as Logan Paul or Onision, but I don't think she deserves a pass. Anyway, I think your interview was great. Probably one thing I disagreed with but out of an hour of content that's not bad at all, homie. Funny, how this is kind of like a collab with Angelika. K O she points out the wording used (“hate”) which I never had a problem either for the same reasoning as Fraser ^. I don’t find a problem with big influencers generalizing criticism with “hate” especially in the interview when they clear up that it was a blanket generalization and she meant critique.
Now she’s saying she should have chosen someone else. I mean Gabbie said she doesn’t watch UA-cam at all, but is aware of Fraser’s content (which actually confused me). I assume she just exaggerates much when she speaks. Interesting that Gabbie did apparently tag Markie and Angelika in one of her videos showing that she’s aware of them. However this doesn’t mean she watched them, just that she knows they’re big youtubers and made videos on her. Who knows? BUT Then Paige shows Gabbie talking about another commentary UA-camr. Idk tbh that was my biggest confusion and side eye re: the interview. - for a UA-camr to say that they don’t watch or are aware at what happens on UA-cam just sounds gross, but then to be proven wrong as well..? Awkward for Gabbie. Still, I don’t blame her for choosing inabber since his content tends to be less aggressive than many commentary channels and he’s already earned street cred from her homie Shane Dawson. I understand that he’s not a guru in the subject but she chose him and he accepted. Not much you can do or should be upset about, but just my opinion.
Another point Page didn’t like from Gabbie was not understanding her influence. I didn’t really have a problem with that statement tbh. I think youtubers all often go through this where they screw up and realize the severity of their actions BC of their influence. I believe it’s when they screw up afterwards or a THIRD time that people should treat them like Page is treating her in this segment, IMO. So like I said in the original comment; Tana has screwed up time and time again - she can’t get away with “I don’t know my influence” bc it’s actual BS by now and she doesn’t seem to learn. As far as I know, this at least is Gabbie’s biggest scandal. Perhaps I’m too sympathetic but I understood what she said from a different perspective as there’s no guidebook to being an influencer and it’s a very new career (feels weird to even describe it as a career). Being without management is her choice, perhaps not a good one bc it makes her vulnerable in these situations but again - no rule book and I would hope she’ll learn and avoid a scandal (at least of this kind) to reoccur in the future.
Gabbie could certainly benefit from being more connected with her work - UA-cam - open to criticism and making friends with people that work in the space. I believe in the interview she mentioned hanging with non internet friends and they would suggest to ignore this “drama.” But this is her scandal and that’s just horrible advice lol.
Page says Fraser should have clicked Gabbie when Gabbie says she handles constructive criticism well, but that’s not really his gig. In an interview like his, he was good to let her speak and it was only his first interview. Thing about the interview is regardless of how professional it could have been, people would have wanted more regardless. I guarantee.
Just my thoughts but again - take it with a grain of salt since I’m also not makeup aware or follow Gabbie too closely.

Edwins Generation Edwins Generation thanks for your feedback!! Overall I can understand your stance, but I do have to disagree about her not knowing her influence because this is arguably her first big scandal. Because regardless, she has been a youtuber/influencer for a very long time and it would be impossible not to know how influential she is to her fanbase. In the interview she even admitted to putting the hate commenters info out there with a patronizing tone to be petty. I would believe her if she chalked it up to being an impulsive decision that she regrets, but to default to being ignorant to the effect it would have comes of disingenuous at best, manipulative at worst.
But again thanks for the write up! I loved your series on Mars Argo.

So, I just watched Angelika's video about your interview, which I did watch. And I have to say while you did a decent job, you could have done better. During an interview, you have the right to point out things to the person you talk to, that way they don't usually get away with bs excuses and such. In my opinion, Gabbie most likely wasn't honest with you for a lot of the questions. You could have pressed her a bit more for some of the, when she pretty much deflected from the question. Remove all the questions from the interview, and it could have been a video she could put up on her own channel. With all the contradictions she does in it, I just don't know. I just can't trust that she was being completely honest with you. Sure she probably didn't manipulate you, but I suppose I could say that she played you in a way. Don't know how else to put it. Wheter it was mutual or not, that doesn't mean she couldn't have played you, she could have easily come up with a gameplan beforehand and prepared for some questions and such. Probably not, but hopefully you get what I mean.
She didn't really answer some of the questions people want answers to, she just dance around them.

People will say "will why did you take the inerview if you have anxiety?" - well i just wanted to try something new and push myself out of my comfort zone, i think at this point the interview has helped us learn a LOT of new information and that's what i was hoping for, we've also seen gabbie uncut and unscripted too which i think helps

I don't think it's your place to explain Gabbie now and especially during the interview, if you want to avoid unfortunate miscommunication, you can always verify what she means by asking.
That said, while there is always room for improvement for everyone and you are very young and for amateur you consistently do great job. Besides, it shows that you are a very kind, warm person, perhaps to a fault. I think with time you'll be able to find a compromise and maybe tone down the kindness and helpfulness, being polite should prove enough. I hope you don't take my opinion the wrong way.

I don't think she contradicted herself when she said that she's good at taking constructive criticism, and then said that she doesn't watch critique videos about herself. There is a difference between constructive criticism that's said to somebody in an attempt to better that person and see them succeed going forward, and videos that are literally ripping into a person and saying unnecessarily harsh comments which won't do anything but tear down their self-esteem. I see why she would avoid the "hate" videos, because a lot of them are not actually constructive and won't help her. They would only worsen her mental state. I'm not saying iNabber's videos on Gabbie are hate videos. But I've watched some vile videos about Gabbie which wouldn't have helped her do better one bit, but would've just upset her, so I see why she would avoid seeing that. She can at the same time ask friends and family for truthful, constructive criticism that she would probably handle well because she wouldn't feel attacked.

I get when you’re in the midst of an interview it’s really hard to know those things which is why follow up videos like this are great but considering her audience age and the fact that she is constantly talking about body image I really wish you would’ve talked about this point as well. Overall though I think the interview itself you did a great job.

Good Video, clarified alot. I'm happy that you also talked about and admitting to the parts where you kind of missed some things. So probs to you for really reflecting on everything and taking in other opinions too. Really good video, you did a great job with the interview regarding that it was your first one.

I think you do a great job. I’ve only been sub to your channel about three months, but I’m so glad I did.
One small piece of advice, you say to “be honest” or “if I’m going to be honest”, end it just makes me think that if someone has to constantly state when did being on the list or if they’re being honest makes me question how often are they dishonest and don’t point it out. Now I sincerely don’t think that is the case with you, but I would try to mutilate selling people on the idea that you’re being honest. it’s like who are you trying to convince me or you?
Best wishes and look forward to more of your videos!

I totally agree with that one part. I start smiling and laughing when I'm nervous. I think it's because being nervous is negative, and to offset that we have this desire to make the situation positive, and we naturally associate positivity while smiles and laughter. It makes it easier to diffuse the situation, even if the laughter isn't genuine. It's a coping mechanism.

I saw the video Angelika Oles made about Gabbie and it was definitely a hate video. She made a few valid criticisms, but she also said a lot of immature and unnecessary things. The comment section of her video will confirm this, as it's just a big train of people talking shit about how Gabbie is "canceled" while they make fun of her nose and how she lacks confidence. Not even a fan of Gabbie, but that kind of shit is unacceptable.

I think the interview is great! I think sometimes it’s hard to react the best way when in the actual situation. Gabbie has stated several times that she is a sensitive person and isn’t good with criticism. It seems that she’s always putting on a front or fake confident persona, which is why these situations occur because she isn’t dealing with situations authentically. Sometimes she is calculated, other times she’s impulsive, which is why these contradictions appear. Great work man!

Honestly, I think you did a good job in the interview itself, I think if Angelica were to do an interview she wouldn't have done as well. Judging from her content I don't believe she would have the patience needed to hear out answers and remain neutral, which is key to having a successful interview. That video wasn't about criticizing Gabbie to her face, it was about giving her a chance to answer questions she was getting criticism about.

I think you did a great job on the interview! I've always had a more middle-ground viewpoint on the whole thing since I didn't find out about it until after the fact and wasn't personally affected. But from where I'm standing, neither denying her mistakes nor forsaking her for them, I feel like you handled the interview extremely well. I think despite obviously not being perfect, it was a great way for her to "damage control" properly, for lack of a better phrase lol. I'm glad you guys cooperated for the interview :)

Paige brought up 2 points that I agree with; why put a clip of Angelika’s video when she was talking about hate. And also there were points where you should’ve asked follow up questions and didn’t

I’ll try to play devils advocate for the criticism part. Maybe she takes criticism from those around her but strangers are different. Either way she should have worded it differently but I don’t necessarily think it’s a COMPLETE contradiction. Like I take constructive criticism well but if it’s not constructive I go on the defense. UA-cam videos may be constructive but you’d have to watch it to find out and when you watch you may find that it’s not constructive and could just be a “hate” video.

I really appreciated and enjoyed this follow up. I think you're doing fantastic. The more you practice asking open-ended questions and just experience in general.. I think you could be Philly D 2.0 :p not sure how you feel about that but thanks again for following up with the last video.
