Shane was always so unbelievably mean to Garrett. Telling him to shut up 24/7, making fun of his appearance, etc. Growing up, it actually made me think the way my friends treated me (badly) was normal! The way Shane ended up sad and alone feels like karmic justice of sorts. Garrett’s youtube channel is genuinely so fun and comforting, I’m so glad he and the others got away from Shane.

As a pharmacist, it was really painful watching people buy more expensive brands of medicines thinking that they'd be stronger when actually it's the same drug in the same amount and in the same form 🤦🏿 and I'd try and tell them to get the generic brand that it doesn't make a difference (in most cases) but they just don't listen 😅
Edit: emphasis on 'in most cases', there are still a lot of cases (especially for prescribed medication) that you _need_ to be prescribed by brand. Also people are mentioning choosing certain brands because of allergies etc to certain excipients (stuff other than the active ingredient in the medicine) and that is totally valid. I'm mainly talking about strength and effectiveness mainly in the context of over the counter meds here. Also, I think I should stress that this doesn't apply to medicines in different forms (liquid capsules, tablets, solid capsules, nasal spray etc) Neurofen liquid capsules for example will work quicker than generic ibuprofen tablets. Even medicines in the same form can have different release profiles, but in the context of OTC meds, there isn't going to be much of a difference if drug companies do their jobs right. Of course everyone is different and everyone processes meds differently 🤷🏿

Once the patent runs out, that's when you can get a generic. So, a lot of people buy name brand pills because they have no choice. Of course, that mostly applies to prescription medications. Over the counter meds are mostly the brainwashing scenario.

I think Shane's more recent videos were just glorified vlogs even before the zeitgeist turned on him in 2020, and I think that's why he's confused it's not working anymore. When you like a creator's persona, you're more likely to be entertained by a glorified vlog because you're mostly interested in the persona, and the content is secondary. When the situation finally reached a point that much of his audience turned against him, they were less interested in watching glorified vlogs from him -- the content quality started to matter more again.
Then again, I remember when everyone acted like Francesca Ramsey was crazy for pointing out Shane's consistent blackface and that it sucked, and being like "nah, she's right." And then years later being confused that everyone... still liked Shane for some reason.

That whole cup thing isn't even 'company sees something is popular and makes an off brand version', it's way easier than that... large brands have their stuff made overseas and either order a specific item from a producer (which is then made for them exclusively) or just pick and choose from a catalog and have their name slapped on it. The second option is cheaper but it also means that other businesses can just get the same items to sell. I used to work for a large retailer and 'designing the new collection' meant having a few statement pieces custom made, the rest was just put together from what's available from manufacturers and packaged with their own label.

They are literally exactly the same and I try to explain this to so many people who only buy name brands because they think that automatically namebrand means better at all. Literally exactly the freaking same, and it blows my mind that people really buy into this in Spanish so much more money than they need to. You never know if those off-brand Cheerio-Os are from the same factory as the original or whether they're extra bland (from my experience they sell both of those extremes at the same price), which sucks, but at the same time, I do appreciate that off-brands can be either identical or same quality products as one that just has a brand labeled on it. I worked in a food packaging plant and I can 100% confirm that most off brand is the exact same product as the name brand stuff, basically in a food plant where say cereal is produced they will meet the quota for the name brand and then they’ll put the overflow into the off brand bags. You basically pay more for the brand specifically, which usually has less of the exact same stuff in off brand and for a lot more money. I’ve said it for a while but people usually don’t believe that

Look at all the vile and disgusting shit that's on YT kids. Even Onision made an attempt to do animation / cartoons for YTKids and it didn't matter whatsoever. Not surprised if Shane goes down that exact path. All I know is I feel bad for that child.
