- Shane Dawson is arguably the most popular youtuber right now, which is crazy considering the recent rise of Logan Paul, Jaker Paul and other viners. Despite Pewdiepie being the most subscribed person, Shane just seems to be absolutely everywhere. Today we're going to discuss how that happened.

It’s amazing how his channel is still alive. Not saying his content is bad but most of the other old school youtubers have died out. I think it’s all about knowing when to change up your content.

True, after a while I got sick of his videos filled with him eating, but a while ago I caught myself enjoying his videos again.
I remember watching a video where he talked about this, I don't think it was all in the same video but he said he changes his content when _he_ gets bored of it (which I think is a great way to stay relevant). He also said that he once looked at all the food videos on his channel and realized that even though he wanted to make movies, he couldn't just wait for opportunities, so he improved his content on UA-cam instead. So now he's basically making his own movies on UA-cam. Moral of the story: make what you love making and love watching, and you win either way. :)

I resent the fact that Andrew was NOT AT ALL mentioned??? Like, Shane himself says. Andrew being his camera guy and helping him edit allowed him to make the videos he's always wanted to make but couldn't make by himself.

Definitely. Watching Rylands recent video you can see how fucken talented Andrew is. Ryland mention the camera guy he was using was the guy who helped him edit his videos but he definitely doesn't have camera skills. I'm sure he's a wonderful editor but just that comparing him with Andrew, you can see how bad ass andrew is for editing and being amazing at camera work.
SHane got more real as he got grew in popularity, more authentic, less scripted, less skits. Most people do the opposite, the bigger they get, the more they feel they need to up the production values and fancy editing and just end up seeming like tv / fake and dull

It’s so weird to me that people know of Shane from his Tana con/ jeffree star series. Him and nigahiga were my everyday routine after school back in 2009. I used to do the shanaynay bit all the time. Lol

Same!!! Was surprised that he didn't even mention Shane's old skits/parodies. That how Shane first got big, from his hilarious/crazy skits! The skits had somewhat offensive humour, but always had a nice message at the end :)
Word in 2009, I'd watch his vids every day after school. And now he does amazing documentaries and I'M SO PROUD OF HIM! Feel like he was a friend and that we grew up and matured together :)

Shane’s content is amazing but without Andrew shane wouldn’t of changed up his content and he said that himself. With Andrew editing Shane tried to make better videos, not taking away any credibility from Shane cause he truly is amazing and he stayed himself and didn’t change to fit in with new trends! Love his channel and passion to make every video better than the last
Not really! And I'm not taking anything way from Andrew's impact, but saying "without Andrew shane wouldn’t of changed up his content" isn't true. And I think you misunderstand what Shane said.
Shane has been doing UA-cam for around 15 years, and his content has changed several times over the years (as mention in this video), while he just met and start to work with Andrew not long ago, so Andrew can't possibly have an impact on all of Shane's changes over the years since he wasn't there for most of it.
But the impact of Andrew (and the other people in Shane's squad) was on the most recent change on Shane's content.

Shane seems to have a wonderful quality: he wants to work together and cooperate with people and he gives credit to them.
Shane was on his journey for better content in his dad series before Andrew officially joined the squad and I think Andrew complements him and has brought nothing but amazingness to the table but they co-edit and co-produce and so it's not "without Andrew" he'd still be making content he wasn't happy with it's just that it is easier
I don't watch a lot of Shane's video but I think he deserves the respect he gets. Like, he probably has a lot of money being on the platform for so long, but his character has clearly never changed from his humble beginnings - unlike some UA-camrs cough Zoella ect cough

I've been a fan of shane since like 2009, like I was in hottopic buying a "shane dawson is my boyfriend" shirt...it was dark emo times. But it feels like he decided to grow up with his 20+ fans instead of trying to maintain a fanbase of preteens. I feel it was his series with his dad that was a huge turning point because it was so personal, emotional and raw with his trade mark humor and he just ran with that. Pretty sure even though it's at a peak right now shane will always find a way to keep raising the bar and upping his content.

I think the reason some UA-camrs are still so popular is because they can grow and mature with their audience. The teenagers that watched Shane in 2008 or whenever are still watching him now because he is able to mature and grow with his viewers.
So apparently Shane reached 1 million on my 9th birthday. 9/9, turning 9. Wow I guess it was a big day for everyone.

YAAAS!! I was so waiting for this. I stan Shane. I adore him. Been watching him since his emo skits with Brittany and Shane & Friends with the hair flip Intro on SDTV was a thing. YT and most famous creators never supported him- he remained like a stepchild YET carved himself a niche and now is the QUEEN of YT. I legit have never been happier. Thank you for this!

Shane is a living icon, a legend. He's so kind and has an aura about him that makes people comfortable. I just love him. I've been a fan since his skits back in 2008.
My jaw dropped when he used the oldest enemy trick on Bobby burns. Instead of confronting him with hate, invited him over, bought him a car, and then let him die by himself with no reputation. How can he attack Shane again since he bought him a car? Shane is a genius of control and manipulation.

He follows the trands, he grow up, he knows when he needs to change his content. He is just very smart and amazing showman, he was born for this. Not many people can do this, that is why most of the og youtube channels died. They didn't change and grow up with their audience. Great video.

Not gonna lie, I’ve gone back and watched Shanes newer series five or six times. I don’t think I’ve watched “How I Met Your Mother” that many times! And you don’t need to do negative videos all the time! I like this series where you talk about the GOOD out there! It’s nice to see!

I think his survival is mostly because he's simply an amazing director and truly likable person. Lot's of people have failed trying to keep up with the UA-cam trends, but Shane has always stayed consistent with his content being sincere, funny, and great quality.
Shane's Human Emoji channel actually was called ShaneDawsonTV2. It wasn't changed to Human Emoji until it became inactive. Just wanted to point that out because you got that bit wrong.

Shane has, in my opinion, the most loyal fans on UA-cam. I know for a fact fans would go to war for that amazing man.
Good video! but two important things were left out (not just by you, but by a lot of people making these kind of video) was Andrew being hired and his 'confronting my (blank)' series, Shane's talked about how when Andrew came on he wanted to start making better content because Andrew was an amazing editor, and how that inspired him to make his first documentary style series, where we opens up about his childhood and re-connects with his father.
Yeah, actually. The Andrew comment I've seen a bunch, but this point about the confrontation series that preceded these docuseries he's done is pretty key. That was a huge turning point, IMO he went from YT to TV quality almost when he did that. Shit got real, lol.

I've been watching Shane for about 5 years now and I've been such a huge fan ever since then. Shane is one of my favorite UA-camrs and he deserves the love his channel is getting.

Great video dude! Think the way that you didn't talk about the controversies was actually refreshing. I think Shane is just doing amazing. His not only doing something different for him but I think the way his documentaries compared to your typical everyday one are miles apart. There is alot going on with his stuff and there's alot more attention to detail which I fully appreciate. Also it's genuine stuff... Honestly being genuine is hard as you are putting yourself online and you think people will react negativity. But it's also very liberating. I don't know dude Shane is just doing awesome! I would really love to see this kind of video again... Definitely on PewDiePie!
LGBTQ+ UA-camrs were around a lot back when he made that coming out video to the point that he worried people would think he was trying to capitalize on the popularity of them at the time.

Thank you for such an amazing video to show Shane’s growth throughout the years. I have been watching Shane Dawson since 2009 I believe and unfollowed in 2014 ish last week I accidentally saw some of his recent videos omg have to say I cannot stop watching them. He has grown so much is so much more mature and still have that sense of humour I think that has not changed a bit!
