- Creepy dolls with crazy hair. They also had a cartoon in 2005 centered around high schoolers with magic. Let's talk about how good it was and what happened to it.

If you like Big *Hair* Goth Girls, you probably watched Trollz as a kid. Those belt scrunchies were ahead of their time.
They weren't really ahead of their time, retro is just chic after 10-20 years to most people.
yup
When I hear "big hair goth girl" I think of Elvira, not Trollz
Can confirm, I watched trollz and i too have a weakness for goth girls
*cough cough* Stocking *cough cough*
Two years ago I got dumped and I watched all of the Trollz episodes on UA-cam to distract myself in a mix of nostalgia and distraction (and alcohol)
Oh damn- are you okay now?
@@ayonowayo Oh yeah, I'm much better now! I just thought I was a funny way to cope with a break up, lol

The characters were really basic and just average types, but I remember having a crush on Sapphire (blue haired one) but Onyx was the best, aside from her goth fashion I love her voice and dry sarcasm which was entertaining compare to the others.
I had a crush on Onyx!
juan ortiz I loved onyx and I also love Nikki in 6teen they both have that dry sarcasm and punk aesthetic
I want a big titty goth gf
Her goth fashion was my favourite thing about her haha
juan ortiz lmao sapphire was my least favorite bc of her voice- amethyst and onyx made me gay tho lol
I loved Trollz as a kid! And just like W.I.T.C.H and Winx, they have a Gameboy game! Trollz also had a virtual world like website that you would input the code from the Trollz dollars from the merch into the game to get money for clothes/spells/etc. Also, the dolls weren’t just the snap and click dolls. There was fashion dolls as well as a line of McDonald’s toys. A lot of people’s memories are from these dvds they had where they contained three episodes a dvd- one dvd had the first three episodes, another dvd had the next three. Most people remember the show from this and that they would check the dvd out from their local video store.
remember the trollz website
Maybe if he focused less on the stupid skits he would have realized they have a game adaptation.

I LOVED the magical bracelet aspect of the show! I remember wearing my own bracelet with pearls every single day when I was a little girl. I always made my own spells and scenarios, it was great!
Yo same. I had pink pearl bracelets and I would pretend to be Amethyst, pluck one off, and chant a spell.
Aww you both are adorable 🥰
I use to do that with old barrettes that were cut off!
Trollz was my pre-cable tv entertainment. I loved it and you just brought so far back into my childhood I cant think straight 😖
Was really disappointed that the DreamWorks movie wasn't based on these trolls and try to remake them into something better, they really missed an opportunity to have a female group led movie rather than the same old regurgitated plot of a boy loner yet smartass outcast that hates everyone but still wants to fit in.
I hate that gorillaz "cover"
isn't really that much of a wasted opportunity imo
juan ortiz I agree and the characters are really unappealing to me
The Dreamworks movie is fine on it's own, but I think the show has alot of potential that's bogged down by being made explicitly for kids and characters like Topaz and Sapphire being super one dimensional
I know right. I thought the Dreamworks film was going to be based on these Trollz, even though it had a “S” instead of a “Z”, but the movie is still good.
Fun Fact: Two of the girls that sung the theme are from the band HIAM.
I Miss Trollz So Much And The Website Was Both SORELY Lacking In Things To Do And Was Ahead Of It's Time (Allowing You To Create A Boy Troll If You So Wished,Despite It Being A Site For Girls).
im so surprised i had to scroll so far to see someone mention the website - i loved going on there as a kid!
I remember watching this show as a kid and there was this one episode once that was very....weird😂
It was about the origin of the crystal bellybutton power thingy and why guys dont have them , turned out was a cave that dripped this weird juice . So there were rituals where whenever a girl was born she would be taken there and have that juice drip onto her bellybutton , thus a magical crystal would appear .
Anyhow , the guy friends of these girls tried to find it out and the ”stupid” guy in the mids of a big fight , end up in that cave - on the altar...under that juice . He got juice on his bellybutton and well , transformed into a magical troll...so he got like , a crop top and a skirt . He had to help the girls fight off the enemy too😂
Ridiculously Hot Chocolate this episode is gonna be golden to watch 😂😂! That juice thingy isn’t that like science actual chemicals because in the anime Dr Stone I swear he goes to the cave to retrieve some of that juice stuff and if I don’t lie it’s like made to use alcahol or something because he used it to break the stones and rock of the people that are stuck in stone.
You just unlocked a memory I didn't think I had

To be honest, after hearing the name DIC, it got me wondering on one franchise.
What happened to Strawberry Shortcake.
I remember i used to have a doll of her (i believe my step dad got rid of her =( ) and i used to watch the tv show including the 2014 tv show.
My memories of troll dolls is that the dentist gave them to me as a kid after drilling my teeth. They were about 1cm tall, and naked for some reason. Some proudly showed their collection at school, I and others put them in a box, never to be seen again.
Oh god I remember this show! I think I only saw like three episodes or something - but my-little-seven-year-old-still-speaking-Norwegian-self-thought “WHAT THE HELL! THESE AREN’T TROLLS! WHY THEY GOT STONES IN THEIR STOMACHS! WHEN ARE THEY GOING TO EAT SOMEONE. But I like their hair.”
trollz was available in norsk? or was your norwegian speaking self watching it in english? you must have been super confused if you didnt even understand the language lol
lindsebeth nah I grew up on the folklore stuff, so to me, as a child, trolls were changeling creatures that used to steal children and replace them and turn to stone when the sun came up. Nightmarish creatures. I remember watching trollz like once or twice when I moved to the UK. Safe to say, 6 year old me, was hella confused

I have the "movie" on dvd, which is really just 3 episodes together that act as the pilot. Was shopping with my mom years ago and, I'm sure we in America have all seen those dvd stands they put near the checkout aisle lol. I got the Trollz movie, first season of Foster's Home, and the first season of Hi-Hi Puffy Ami-Yumi. Kinda regret the Puffy Ami-Yumi purchase, but I still go back to the other two, they're gems.
Ooh, and while I'm on the subject, how about about a Puffy Ami-Yumi video? xD Not sure there's enough to talk about, but it's an idea.
I guess I’m one of the few who enjoyed hi hi puffy smile yumi as a kid 😂 I’ve seen it now and I’m just like wtf was i thinking
@@fineassjermiaa That's how I feel. I enjoyed it on tv at the time and I liked going back through the nostalgia when I first got the dvd, but every subsequent watch years later, I just can't get into it.
ジョネーJonét i tried watching an episode a few days ago and i was like where is the plot what is the purpose here . I think i just liked it because it was colorful .
I loved the music and art for Hi Hi Puffy Ami Yumi, but the story writing was just not done well 😩
@@heartsDmise I did too, hell - the promos and everything for it looked rad on TV when I watched it and now 17 years later - the stories are terrible, the art looks *horrible* when they're moving and the live-action segments feel glued in there for some reason. The appeal of the trollz show to me was the fact that the characters are so stereotypical that the absurdity of their personalities are funny on their own. Like how Topaz was literally such a dumb ASS in every situation actually had me dying 😭😂
Honestly I know this show wasn't great but I still kinda love it and I wished they made more episodes if anything just because of Onyx because Onyx is the best.
@brandon roberts Damn Straight
I remember I used to love going on the Trollz website.
Actually, you have it all wrong.
Ruby is the worst character.

Ruby was a bad person Sapphire was a bad character

This show is my childhood, and one of my childhood obsessions along with Bratz, Winx Club, Magical Do-Re-Me, and Neopets. I guess you really had to be the right age at the right time. My favorite part was the magical girl elements, yes it was corny but it was what I was in to so it brings me a sense of nostalgia to this day. Also the full size fashion dolls were much better, I had Onyx and Amethyst. I'm not going to say it was perfect by any means because heaven knows it wasn't, all I'm saying is that we all have those guilty childhood pleasures that takes us back to a simpler time where we didn't analyze every little thing and just enjoyed it just because the characters were in to the same things we were and those happy memories make us smile when we look back on them, no matter how bad cinematically they are now. It doesn't mean I have any worse taste than anyone else, I was just into different things at the age of 9 and 10. Plus how many people out there grew up made up spells on the playground that had corny rhymes with very specific intentions as kids growing up in the 90's and early 2000's?
You described my life ❤😂
"I blame you for this, Raven from the Teen Titans"

I feel very insulted when he said "cause I have taste" sir I still watch Trolls and I am 17, my childhood was built on shows like that. Classics now.
Thank you so much for covering this show! It was my favourite as a kid! The theme is so nostalgic for me
This show really is the inspiration of Steven universe, have an episode saying something important and then you get three episodes of filler afterwards.
Now, why would you something so controversial yet so brave?!
Steven universe looks ugly though. It's the ugliest looking show I've seen.
I loved this show it’s nice knowing that I’m not alone so much more I wanted to see from this show like how all 5 of them meet in the first place and do they ever become official with their crushes and what happened after they got home and how will they deal with the cheerleaders. Everybody seems to Hate Ruby but doesn’t anyone remember Sapphire turned her back on her friends twice And they all abandoned Ruby and almost killed her
Ikr 27 episodes were not enough and I liked Ruby her and Onyx are Sassy and Cool
What do you do with these old toys you open for this series? Do you get rid of them afterward? Do you have a shelf dedicated to these? A little bit of both?
This was a great video and it was nice to look back on a small portion of my childhood!
One thing does concern me though, i urge you to credit the fanart you used in the video (the chibi drawing for example) in the description and in the video itself. It would be great discover new artists that way! Getting permission to use their art would be wise as well, as artists spend alot of time creating, only for their hard work to go unnoticed without a clear source.
All I can really say is...
wow, I thought NosTale was dead!
I used to love this show so much! Thank you for covering this ^^

I LOVED THIS SHOW. Yes, I'm the first to admit it suffered big time from Early 2000s Girl Syndrome, but I will fight that the worldbuilding was really cool. I liked the contrast of the super modern and the super fantastical. I liked that only girl trolls had magical powers, and Simon GENUINELY FREAKED ME OUT sometimes.

Yeeeeeees I've been waiting for this video!!!!!
I remember having a Trollz doll when I was in elementary school and when I brought it to school for show and tell in like second grade. After showing everyone in my class, they clapped and I went back to my seat with my friends, and I asked them what they thought of Trollz because I was the only one in my friend group that watched it. All of my friends ended up telling me that the doll was SUPER weird and that I was basically a loser for watching it. That really discouraged me and I ended up just hiding the doll in my backpack the rest of the day, and I also stopped watching the show. Until this Summer when I just binged it all on UA-cam.
Sapphire isn’t the worst. Topaz is inherently worse. She’s clumsy and the “dumb one” and that trope is always more annoying than the “smart one”
She had a couple good lines though. She called an earthquake a "ground massage:"
I find Topaz more likeable though, and I personally like her design more than Sapphire's, even if Sapphire is cute with glasses
@@DrawciaGleam02 🤣🤣
They used to have bigger Trollz fashion dolls made of the main characters as well. My sister had a doll of Sapphire and I think the hair had like this ''sock'' inside of it and the hair was just sewn onto it so it would keep its shape😨
And I thought I was the only one who knows this show I remember watching it daily and it’s cool you made a video about it. ^-^
That's what it was called, I was literally just thinking about these but I could never remember the name. I'm so happy I found this, this (and the movie Trillz made) was a big part of my childhood along with barbie and Tinkerbell.
Bro I binged all The bakugan videos, could you in The future do reactions or playthroughs of either bakugan or beyblade, I need that nostalgia drug
I really like the "switch out parts" toys, one of my favorites was the Pinky St. line that Japan did because you could switch out hair as you pleased and faces too, so the ability to make 'your own' doll was really high. I still have two of them. They had a DS game in English too, which is kinda fun.
In my opinion, the worst toy decision was when Polly Pocket decided it wanted to be those 6 inch figures with rubber clothes. They never looked quite right, the shoes never stayed on, they never stood up or maintained a 'pose' (which was highly limited), and honestly, the rubber clothing kept tearing or wasn't formed properly so it never fit right. It just made the whole thing look cheap and bad.
Omg me and my sister loved watching trollz it was like the only time we would not argue I dont get why people didnt like it
I think it was how the girls treated the boys sometimes
I remember having a dvd movie of this. Like they sliced together all the big plot points and sold it as a movie
