As a Canadian that grew up watching this show. Can confirm that the amount of vomiting was enough to fill at least two swimming pools. And as for teens hanging out at the mall, the legal working age is 14, and there honestly isn't anything to do in Canada, so teens hanging out at the mall to waste time or bug their friends who are working, was pretty common. And I think the mall in the show is based off of the mall in Alberta, it's so big that it has multiple fountains, around four floors, an entire theme park with a massive rollercoaster, a water park with a wave pool and bungee jumping, and a sea world type thing

Fun fact: he used to be my next door neighbour! Him and his daughter were always the nicest and were very supportive when my mom got cancer and we had to move closer to her hospital. I remember him doing a bunch of whack things impulsively just because they were fun, including helping every kid on the street get better wheels for their skateboards (he'd often impulsively buy new wheels and new boards and would give his older ones out to kids who couldn't afford them) as well as tumbling a whole bunch of gemstones for about a week straight and giving out a bunch to anyone who wanted them. I also distinctly remember him complaining about neat and tidy his house was after the home makeover show he was on came through and redid the place. I remember he went through and intentionally left a bit of a mess everywhere just so it didn't look too sterile.
Fun fact: In one of the later episodes where Jude was collecting cans for a new skateboard, he mentioned someone named "Christian Lotenza". Sound familiar?
I still remember when this show aired on CN years ago along side Total Drama. I've watched this show a million times and it can get real. I even cried during GoodBye Nikki 😭
@@sugarskulls2817 Nickelodeon got the rights first but it didn’t do well after airing the first season. Cartoon Network then got the rights and aired the entire show.
Fun fact: Galleria Mall is based on the West Edmonton Mall in Alberta but the mall is most likely located in Toronto, Ontario due to references of the Maples Leafs, a Toronto based hockey team.
That's funny, because as a kid I always thought it was based on my local mall lmfao. The mall across the way from me that I used to go tall the time was called the Galleria ironically (guess I never figured that there's a LOT of Gallerias, obviously), so I figured that's where they got the name. I didn't even know it was a Canadian show back then.
This is my personal take: I think the whole vomit thing has something to do with a wave of genuine intentions to normalize things that were considered previously gross and taboo to talk about even though they are perfectly normal like vomiting, farting, and girls being gross. Somewhere along the way just veered off path and turned into gross humor.

As a Canadian who was about 15 when this show first aired, I LOVED it. I loved that it had poc main characters. It dealt with issues you rarely encountered in animated shows. The only other time I had seen divorce in an animated show was Digimon. I also loved that this show was Canadian, as I am also Canadian. I got to see all episodes, so I never knew some episodes didn’t air in the U.S.A. However, I didn’t know about the 2018 special! So thanks for making this video. Such a fun retrospective.
6teen is definitely one of my favorite shows as a kid and I’m planning to watch the all the episodes someday. I’d love to see a review for Stoked too! 😃
I remember this show so vividly even though I haven’t seen it in over a decade. The period episode especially stuck with me as the only time I’d ever seen periods talked about in a cartoon.
I loved this show SO MUCH growing up, recently rewatched it last year and I'm glad it holds up. I will say though "Nobody hangs out at the mall anymore" is incorrect if you live in a small town - all me and my mates did in high school was hang at our small local shopping centre or walk around the beach. Would absolutely LOVE to see you cover Stoked!
I remember watching an episode when they talk about kissing with the tongue and at that time I was like 12 and I was watching it on my parents' TV in their room and my dad saw it and he was a little bit concerned but no biggie I still haven't had any type of kiss being now 20 yers old 😂
"One time, my dad walked in on me watching Ed, Edd, n Eddy, and I was saying all their lines as they said it." You did that, too! I remember doing that when my mom took me down to her home country of Honduras and I had to watch the Spanish dub of that show!
I really digged this show as a kid! Even watching some episodes back after, it's still entertaining and not just a romanticized idea of what being a teenager is. The cartoon was actually for teens, not kids which is why their writing and humour was obviously more mature but not adult.
I remember seeing the episode of nicki questions her sexuality as she had a crush on a girl and ended up asking her out. As a kid I was amazed by the fact that women can like other women…. Now I’m gay
Seeing that there’s a new Negative Legend video is one of the best feelings ever. It’s a pure hit of nostalgia, which reminds me of what felt like simpler times. Thank you so much for the videos.
my "sweet 16" was just me being super excited and putting together a display of fun foods, only for my one and only guest to call in sick that same night. it was super depressing. anyway,6teen was a god damn amazing show (and i'm canadian,so no skipped eps over here) and that voting PSA was weirdly great and i kinda want a spin-off where they are that age and able to do more adult things but are still dumb kids getting into the same nonsense they were as 16 year olds.
As a Canadian who grew up in the early 2000s, I remember loving this show and always watching it when I had the chance. Nostalgia hit me hard with this video.
Here 6Teen aired on a channel for teens called ZigZap rather than CN, and I remember it having a "12+" age rating. Glad it did because at least it wasn't censored. I loved watching it, even watched it with mom who normally hated animation.
@@Luuni100 LoL idk im Québequois I watched it on Teletoon in french I just though ZigZag was a very UK sounding channel so I asked if it was from the UK😅😂
I’d love to see Grojband and Stoked covered. I don’t know why but for some reason Canadian cartoons we’re always more entertaining to me. Detentionaire, 6teen, and Grojband to name a few of my favorites. Also, just to ask does anyone here remember Qubo?
That episode about periods did not blow anything out of proportion. Sadly I have all three of those issues. Insanely painful cramps, hungry ALL the god damn time, and cranky as frick. Also Im tired af too so that doesn't help.
I remembered seeing the marriage episode during Jr high when I was trying to find some episodes online not realizing that it didn't aired on CN and just thought it did but never saw a rerun of it.
There’s a huge mall in Edmonton Alberta where I live, so there’s always people there including teens just to hang out and they still do that now. Btw in Canada legal age of consent is 16 so it makes sense why they banned it in America.
A suggestion for a What Happened To is the H2O animated series. You could also cover the live action series which did come first, but I personally never watched it when I was younger.
Can we all just agree that the 6teen theme song was so catchy? "Life begins after school that's when we bend all the rules time to hang with all my friends we like to be together... IN A PLACE WHERE WE BELONG!"
I lived in Canada when this aired but didn't see the dudes having a pottery session! Maybe, my younger brothers didn't want me to ship two guys together! Then and my folks were still together. Bi-girl feels wronged!
It's because it completed It's story. I loved 6teen. I just think they should renew it to 7teen or 8teen. **But have intelligent writing.** Not like that awful reunion special where they are based in American culture instead of Canadian culture. Never let my favourite childhood show talk about the politics.
6teen is the reason I love using gradients on the foreheads of my characters when I color them. Anyways, you do know that the Sweet Sixteen is an old traditional party that the parents would do to tell “Hey society our daughter is at the age to mary who wants her?“, of course, this is the original meaning it was kind of lost and it just party girls make. Here in my country, it's done on our 15 birthday, but I didn't have one because I didn't want to. Anyways here in Brazil, all the episodes aired it's a bummer the US censored very useful info that comes from these banned episodes.
GREAT video! I moved to a bigger city this year and remembered this show so I applied at the mall here and honestly….it lives up to the expectations! It’s so fun and just as crazy! But yeah you won’t find teenagers just sitting in the food court, most of us are actually in our 20s and if teenagers are there, they’re usually with their parents but 6teen was definitely a great show and I love watching it and being able to relate more now that I’m older and actually working at a mall! 😆💝
Loved this look back on one of my favourite shows from my childhood! Bummer to hear that Nelvana are so copyright-strike happy, they're one of my favourite animation studios. I got to visit their studio on a school trip when I was a kid and it's one of my most treasured memories!
Always like to come back and rewatch 6teen every once in a while. Still remember the first time I looked it up on my own and could finally understand some of the subtle adult jokes my parents and older sisters were laughing at lmao Wish the studio would do more shows like this and Stoked rather than mire seasons of Total Drama
Not long ago I re-discovered 6teen and watched a few episodes and now I’ve rediscovered it again because of this video. This was one of my favourite videos from you, I want to rewatch all of the episodes now!
I watched 6teen when it originally ran and it was my fave show!!! I begged for a spin-off when they were all adults in college but never got it. Im in my early 20s and I still watch the episodes on youtube cuz it's just that good along with clone high
Yeah, something of that sort. Also I believe it used to be the age of consent in many states in the US, which... yikes.. a celebration of teenage girls becoming "legal" 😬
Just like quinceañeras it's supposed to be a passage from girl to woman, and back in the day yes to bring the girl up into society, but now people just like to celebrate it and make big parties where people give you money and gifts
I remember going online with my sister years ago to watch the skipped episodes. She sometimes watched them before me, and on the period episode, she sat me down after school and said "take notes". Now, I can walk down the street holding bags of tampons, pads, heating pads, chocolate, etc and not even flinch or feel embarrassed. I was always told by my mom to ask questions, but this helped me more than her explanations. Also, yes. Please cover Stoked.
Definitely not one of my favorite shows to exist growing up (I too absolutely hated the live action Cartoon Network mini-era), but that probably means it is worth a rewatch. Thanks for this video!
Negative Legend says he played GTA 4 four time and never got "violent" but me being an intellectual knows that he is a crime boss for his own syndicate don't believe me ask your FBI agent they would tell you it's all true.
Going to the mall all day with your friends was actually super common in Canada at the time :D we called ourselves mall rats and we didn’t have money, maybe enough for a smoothie here or there but most teens would steal or we’d just hangout & play on our DSs or iPods
I loved this show when I was a teen. I can’t believe the US had so many missing eps. I actually hung out at a mall as a teen tho. Not every day but just on Friday’s. My mom would give me some money for food and something nice but we’d mostly just window shop and hang out in the food court

I remember when Total Drama Action parodied the opening in their sixteenth episode
6teen is definitely one of my favorite shows as a kid and I’m planning to watch the all the episodes someday. I’d love to see a review for Stoked too! 😃
oh hi!
I'm like, the only person who remembers this show
Same
Nah
No you're not!
don't worry you not only one I watch as a kid .. miss the show
Nope!
Wayne was actually one of the best characters in the show. I'll never forget the episode where he and the guys took on the Taj-ma-home video.
I remember this show so vividly even though I haven’t seen it in over a decade. The period episode especially stuck with me as the only time I’d ever seen periods talked about in a cartoon.
Another childhood show that I adored
I loved this show SO MUCH growing up, recently rewatched it last year and I'm glad it holds up. I will say though "Nobody hangs out at the mall anymore" is incorrect if you live in a small town - all me and my mates did in high school was hang at our small local shopping centre or walk around the beach. Would absolutely LOVE to see you cover Stoked!
It’s a crime that there are 24 missing episodes that we didn’t see
I remember going to the mall by myself with friends when we were like 13-14 to reenact certain scenes from 6teen, good times!
I remember watching an episode when they talk about kissing with the tongue and at that time I was like 12 and I was watching it on my parents' TV in their room and my dad saw it and he was a little bit concerned but no biggie I still haven't had any type of kiss being now 20 yers old
😂
"One time, my dad walked in on me watching Ed, Edd, n Eddy, and I was saying all their lines as they said it."
You did that, too! I remember doing that when my mom took me down to her home country of Honduras and I had to watch the Spanish dub of that show!
I learned what periods were because of this show, definitely helped.
I really digged this show as a kid! Even watching some episodes back after, it's still entertaining and not just a romanticized idea of what being a teenager is. The cartoon was actually for teens, not kids which is why their writing and humour was obviously more mature but not adult.
I remember watching that show all the time when i was a kid, hell i sometimes binge watch it here on YT.
Honestly same I did a bit last year.😂😅
I remember seeing the episode of nicki questions her sexuality as she had a crush on a girl and ended up asking her out. As a kid I was amazed by the fact that women can like other women…. Now I’m gay
Please cover Stoked! That was an aweome series that doesn't get talked about as much as 6Teen and Total Drama.
Stoked was underrated, sure it was canada’s california beach summer job, but i loved it
Here 6Teen aired on a channel for teens called ZigZap rather than CN, and I remember it having a "12+" age rating. Glad it did because at least it wasn't censored. I loved watching it, even watched it with mom who normally hated animation.
UK?
@@tornadodee148 i watched in in the uk and here it aired on popgirl
@@Luuni100 LoL idk im Québequois I watched it on Teletoon in french I just though ZigZag was a very UK sounding channel so I asked if it was from the UK😅😂
@@tornadodee148 lmao 😭
ZigZag is Portuguese. It’s also where total drama aired in Portugal
A great episode, also didn’t know they cut so much for the states.
I’d love to see Grojband and Stoked covered. I don’t know why but for some reason Canadian cartoons we’re always more entertaining to me. Detentionaire, 6teen, and Grojband to name a few of my favorites.
Also, just to ask does anyone here remember Qubo?
omg qubo was my childhood
Because Canada knows how to make cartoons better then America.
Broooo detentionaire was my jammmmm, a defining moment
Here in Australia abc3 played the crap out of this show along with stoked and total drama and I loved it
6teen and Stoked were two of my favorite cartoons when I was a kid. Re-watching them gives me nostalgic vibes.
Dude. Best review of this show ever.
This show is so nostalgic for me and is still one of my favorite cartoons. Thank you for talking about it
That episode about periods did not blow anything out of proportion. Sadly I have all three of those issues. Insanely painful cramps, hungry ALL the god damn time, and cranky as frick. Also Im tired af too so that doesn't help.
I remember this show, but I don’t remember what really happened.
oml same!
Btw in Canada legal age of consent is 16 so it makes sense why they banned it in America.
when someone turns 16 in my family, we sing the theme song instead of happy birthday. pretty iconic if you ask me.
Oh I remember this cartoon from the times I used to watch this show on tv before! :D
A suggestion for a What Happened To is the H2O animated series. You could also cover the live action series which did come first, but I personally never watched it when I was younger.
Can we all just agree that the 6teen theme song was so catchy?
"Life begins after school
that's when we bend all the rules
time to hang with all my friends
we like to be together...
IN A PLACE WHERE WE BELONG!"
Not only is Jude Chris McClean, but Jen is Gwen. I mean, it's hard to disguise that squeaky voice.
You should review another Canadian cartoon “Dentionare”
Do you mean detentionaire? I loved that one😍😍
oml thats one my fav showsi remired watching during my childhood he should do it! (sorry for bad english btw)
Fun fact detentionaire will be returning with a new season on netflix!!
@@Spookypoopet wait for real ?!
@@Spookypoopet REALLY
"what happened to 6teen", or as I like to call it, "was negative legend ok as a kid, someone give them a hug?"
I lived in Canada when this aired but didn't see the dudes having a pottery session! Maybe, my younger brothers didn't want me to ship two guys together! Then and my folks were still together. Bi-girl feels wronged!
So this is what Robin Sparkles was inspired by when she wrote her smash hit “Let’s Go To The Mall”
Come on Jessica, come on Tori!
6Teen is my all time favorite show. I legit started rewatching last year but only watch a few episodes every couple months.
It's because it completed It's story. I loved 6teen.
I just think they should renew it to 7teen or 8teen.
**But have intelligent writing.**
Not like that awful reunion special where they are based in American culture instead of Canadian culture.
I've been up for like twenty-one hours or something so this'll be fun.
This video is literally everything I have ever thought and loved about the show! Mad props Negative legend.
I'm just glad Retro-Rewind has the episode we missed in the states...and some NETFLIX outta country...thanks to Nord VPN ans such.
I’m so glad you covered this show. This was my all time favorite growing up!
I was JUST watching this series on UA-cam, great timing! Love your content
HOW AM I 24 YEARS OLD AND I *JUST* REALIZED HE'S NAMED "JONESY" CUZ HE'S JONESING FOR CHICKS??
Weren't sweet 16s parties to introduce young women to society to let people know the could now be married?
Yeah, something of that sort. Also I believe it used to be the age of consent in many states in the US, which... yikes.. a celebration of teenage girls becoming "legal" 😬
Just like quinceañeras it's supposed to be a passage from girl to woman, and back in the day yes to bring the girl up into society, but now people just like to celebrate it and make big parties where people give you money and gifts
I'm like 30 and I only though 16 was special because of being able to legally drive... I may be an idiot
People have different ways of doing a sweet 16
I’ve been dying for this video!!! Thank you thank you thank you!
Would love to see you cover Stoked!!! It and 6teen were my childhood
I used to LOVE 6teen!! Thank you for talking about it! 💕
22:46 There's Jude, being my absolute favorite character of the entire show! This is my first time seeing this clip & I love it.
Definitely not one of my favorite shows to exist growing up (I too absolutely hated the live action Cartoon Network mini-era), but that probably means it is worth a rewatch. Thanks for this video!
I agree with that era. It sucked.
AHHHHH YES!!! I've been waiting for this day.
Negative Legend says he played GTA 4 four time and never got "violent" but me being an intellectual knows that he is a crime boss for his own syndicate don't believe me ask your FBI agent they would tell you it's all true.
He truelly is a legend
Going to the mall all day with your friends was actually super common in Canada at the time :D we called ourselves mall rats and we didn’t have money, maybe enough for a smoothie here or there but most teens would steal or we’d just hangout & play on our DSs or iPods
I feel like people don't know much about Horseland, I loved it growing up!
I loved this show when I was a teen. I can’t believe the US had so many missing eps. I actually hung out at a mall as a teen tho. Not every day but just on Friday’s. My mom would give me some money for food and something nice but we’d mostly just window shop and hang out in the food court
I love how the alt girl doesn’t have that basic super skinny body. It’s nice to see in cartoons 🥰
"If you guys are so into death, why are you still alive?"
_holy shit_
Now I wanna rewatch Total Drama. Before HBO releases the next two seasons of Island.
I rewatched all the episodes at the beginning of quarantine last year, honestly my favourite show from my childhood
