For people struggling to get the filter out: 1. Don't put the wedge (knife, screwdriver, or finger) directly beneath the three catches where the fabric is. 2. There's a line gap between the filter and the holder 3. Wedge it with light but firm strength until you loosen the catches. Wrote this comment because I kept on pushing on the fabric instead of the actual catches which seems like to be the issue for a few commenters here.
Thank you!! I ended up using the handle of a plastic spoon instead of the butter knife (I was afraid I’d accidentally break the filter) it worked great to press in the levers to release the filter! 😊 Luckily I didn’t have any gunk inside the filter, it still looked spotless which was surprising with how much I’ve used it!!! Well at least now I know how to do this for future use!!
Ah thanks. Just been searching up cleaning tips for my V7 vac filter after not bothering for a few years until the vac started pulsing. Didn't know there was a second set of clips to pull apart the filter frame and sleeve; I thought there were only clips to pop the cap off. Besides tapping out the dust and rinsing, I used a hard bristle toothbrush and mild laundry detergent to scrub inside the sleeve, run hot water, and repeat as needed. Now I'm pondering though if detergent and hot water may have done significant damage.
This video is tremendously helpful. We've been struggling with the vacuum cutting out. Cleaning the filter the way the manual advises sometimes helps, but often doesn't. We tried this method to clean out the inside, were shocked how much junk was inside of it, and once we did this & let it dry, the vacuum works great. I only wish Dyson would recommend doing this. Perhaps they hope that out of frustration you will either buy a new filter or a new Dyson vacuum. Thank you Love Happy Ali!!!!
OMG i didn’t know it came apart I have always just rinsed under water and put in the sun to dry. With watching your video I just was able to get it off and the dust was all the way halfway up. 😮 this will help the machine and it probably will smell better 😊 Thank you very much
VERY helpful video! When using a butter knife to dislodge the clips expect it to be difficult. Make sure that your knife is between the two blue plastic collars. Don't try to push the knife below the innermost collar.
Oh my, all my rinsing of the filter from the outside never got the inner crud out; in fact, it caused the inner dust to cakes and dry into a hard stalk within the plastic insert. No wonder my vacuum was cycling on and off. Thank you!
I’ve had my Dyson DC59 Motorhead for 8 years & i’ve never clean the filter until right now! It always looks perfect and brand new so I took it apart and it was 3/4 full of cat hair and powdered dirt! 😳😱 that’s probably why my Dyson keeps stopping while I’m vacuuming and showing an amber light. Thank you so much for this video! We use these at my church and no one knows how to clean them either they just been rinsing them underwater 😬
Omg I’ve had my Dyson stick for around 3-4 years now and never cleaned the filter 😱😱 I’m always scared I can never put things back together correctly but will have to get onto mine asap 😃 thanks for video
Huh, didn't know those things came apart. Compressed air would do a number on it...that's what I use, but again, I'll take apart next time. This was a very nice and informative video!
I found the dyson robot filter will dry in the microwave in 8 min with no ill effects.....took the risk as i hate waiting. Have washed and dried microwave method many times since.
My v8 animal is pulsing on max and some inspection seems to suggest that a filter cleaning is in order. It’s a bit of a pain since it takes so long to dry, but really does improve the performance. I picked up a Sebo automatic for $7 at an estate sale recently so that’s been my recent favorite but the dyson is very convenient for certain tasks.
Get an electric duster. I was able to completely disassemble my V7 to clean almost every crevice with either isopropyl alcohol or with soap and water in a few hours. The electric duster helps with drying certain parts and removing dust from places that I wasn’t comfortable putting under water. That being said I was able to almost completely dry the pre-filter shown in this video in about 10 minutes.
Thanks! Other videos don’t tell u to open up filter and clean it. I found a ball of lint in mine and I know this was causing the vac to turn off and on.
Gee whiz, I didn't even know this filter existed! I pull it out and looks brand new to me .. tapped it upside down and nothing! Guess got to give it a doggy bath now! Thanks for the tips .. you are clever!
Exactly why only washing the filter is poor practice regardless of what Dyson recommends. Well done, they come apart easier after you get the hang of it. I prefer to use a small flat blade screwdriver to push down on the plastic tab in the slotted holder openings.
DON'T FORGET TO SHARE THIS VIDEO WITH A FIREND WHO HAS A DYSON V6/V7/V8! 😃 I did this video yesterday and the filter is still drying. I'll just wait until it completely dries before putting it back into the vacuum.
If the exhaust air out of your Dyson V8 stinks, this cone shaped filter is why. It looks clean on the outside but is likely full of dust and debris. And if you "washed" it previously without taking it apart as shown in this video, well, you've been drawing air through wet, moist junk!
When you clean a vacuum cleaner you become a vacuum cleaner
haha
Brilliant Scott!! So true!! Lol.

I used a small teaspoon, worked well

You're welcome! Yeah you are so right! it's so important to get the dust out not just wet it.
Good to know. My filter always looked perfectly clean from the outside so i assumed it was clean . Now off to clean my filter. Thank you !!
Glad I could help!

Oh Wow thanks so much. I clean my filter but didn’t realise that you can take the end off 👍👍
Glad I could help!
Great tip. Thanks so much for taking the time to put this little gem together.

Glad it’s fixed Jean!
Excellent how-to! Thank you for posting!
Brilliant! Thank you!

Sarah x
You are so welcome Sarah! I did mine not long ago 😲 but all that dust from cleaning the old house. Thanks for watching, I'm very grateful!

Thank you! God Bless! x
I'm almost afraid to do this because I've had my Dyson for 4 years and just realized you have to clean the filter.

Have heard of a Sebo. Is it Sebo cordless?
@@LoveHappyAli not cordless but best vacuum I’ve used

You can always buy a spare filter then there’s no waiting time.

This is fantastic thankyou so much 🎉
It makes such a difference!

Thanks for the tip on the screwdriver Brian! 😃
Thank you Brian. Yes, it much easier with a screwdriver. xx

I don't understand how you are pulling the filter out. I can't pull it out.
Thanks for sharing very informative video keep it up have a nice day 👍
Thank you! You too!
Good tips. I’m surprised Dyson doesn’t recommend removing the dust before running it under water. Water mixed with dirt will make it cake it.
Probably cuz it should be common sense..
Dyson only advise you to wash the whole filter under the tap! then when it totally gets blocked buy a new filter from them! yea right!!
Could not get those clips off! Gave up before I either damaged the plastic or injured myself,
Thankyou!!!
Thanks for your support!

I clean my filter watching your video ......and its disgusting!! Thank you!! Thank you!! Thank you!!
You are welcome!
Hey guys! Here is the full Dyson V6 tutorial (for everything else but this filter deep cleaning): ua-cam.com/video/z90j33xk5r4/v-deo.html
Thabk you
My pleasure! Thank you for watching! 😃
Why not use soap ?
The cap on the end also flicks open
So the bagless vacuum has a bag.
Like 👍🏽 from me too
I poured out years of dust 🤮
It's so crazyyyyy isn't it?!
