Lakenheath F-35A Christmas Flights
Переглядів 8616 місяців тому
On Thursday I visited RAF Lakenheath, home of the 48th Fighter Wing. In preparation of the upcoming F-15E video, I hoped to film some footage of the F-15Es based here, however, they didn't fly that day. What did fly however, which was a sweet sight to see after waiting 2.5 hours in the wind and rain, were several F-35As. I have put together a small compilation video of the videos I took using m...

The A-10A finally got to see combat for the first time since entering service in 1977 in Operation Desert Storm in 1991. There, the A-10s flew to retake Kuwait, setting up the Kuwait Theatre of Operations, for the ground invasion. When the ground war kicked off, though sometimes having accidental blue-on-blue engagements, the A-10s were ready to support every last soldier on the battlefield, ev...

first in last out
one phantom downed several damaged from that one flight after the sam detonated in the middle of said flight
Do a video on how Bronco was murdered (in both USAF and Marine srvice, despite the USMC retaining helos which have inferior loiter time and high altitude performance) by senior leader pilots who only wanted to fly fast jets. There was a Marine Bronco jock who wrote a great article on the subject years ago but I don't recall the publication. Desert Storm was the excuse.
My first time down south was 89-90 and the Phantoms were operating then .
May have been 2nd gen planes, but still looked intimidating.
Politics
I remember watching these land at valley.. happy days.
According to the Iraqi defense minister at the time in an interview, Kuwaiti planes shot down around 60 Iraqi planes on the first day of the invasion
I remember Buccaneers arriving in Bahrain.
All the aircraft used t do low flyover during the gulf wsr
To know the arrived home safe.
And us as ground crew that our aircraft a river safely back as well as our jet.lo,
A beautiful and deadly strike chariot
Love-hate relationship, but mostly love. Good times…
Oh yeah man for “SFMC” in the Desert Storm 1991 campaign when it came to the USMC F/A-18D I made the right choice to select that of VMFA(AW)-121.
Yeah man the F/A-18s from “SFMC” in the Desert Storm 1991 campaign I chose VFA-151 for the F/A-18A and VFA-86 for the F/A-18C.
When it came to “SFMC” in selecting the F-14A under the Desert Storm 1991 campaign I chose that of VF-1 markings take a guess why.
Glad I got the F-4G for “SFMC” again for the Desert Storm 1991 campaign. And I got the skin of that from the 561st TFS, 35th TFW.
I particularly like the A-6E TRAM variant in “SFMC” when it’s with the Desert Storm 1991 campaign. And I chose VA-115 for the tail markings.
Great CAS bird for the AV-8B for “SFMC” in the Desert Storm 1991 campaign I got a liking for VMA-542’s livery.
When playing the F-111 in “SFMC” for the Desert Storm 1991 campaign I usually prefer the F-111F with Pave Tack. I got that for the 494th TFS, 48th TFW.
They got the AH-1W for “SFMC” in the Desert Storm 1991 campaign I particularly like that of HMLA-369.
We need them in "SFMC" for the 1991 Desert Storm campaign.
Glad I got the A-10 in “SFMC” for the Desert Storm 1991 campaign. I fly that of the 74th TFS, 23rd TFW.
Awesome. Vallejo 71.400UK Desert Pink is the best colour to replicate this scheme & 71.408 PRU Pink for the drop tanks. Some recourses suggest using desert ping for French aircraft as well, but I don't think that would look accurate as the French colour scheme has a pale-yellow tint.
The Jaguar & Mirage F-1 entered service in the French air force in the same year & from the get-go the Mirage was the better aircraft of the 2, which is why I believe the French did not care about upgrading the Jaguar as they would rather spend the time & money expanding the capabilities for the Mirage F-1, which is a pure French design which they could market to the world.
Lozziemouth? 😂 Where's that?
4:48 - sure it’s been pointed out before but I was groundcrew for the 1435 Flt F4’s in 1990 so your statement of them being replaced in 1988 by F3 is incorrect.
Cool
🌹🌹🌹👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼🦾🦾🦾thank you for your service
One my favorite birds ~ VS-35 (97-'01)
Our trusty tornado 😊
Besides the P-38 of different types like the ELINT P-38 my father also flew the British Spit Fire in 8th Air Force 7th photo group. He was one of the highest decorated American photo recon pilots in The 8th Air Force. Thank you for making a film on the photo Recon pilots that served and what they did in WW2.
So, as I understand, the Iraqi SAMs were radar active and not heat seekheated ? So the buccs were saved by turning off their radar at threat times. Were there any semi active Iraqi SAMs in use?
I know this war was executed during winter time there due to the performance of the warbirds in hot climates., as far as I understood, the buccs navs locked on the target and could fire and forget. I am not up to date in modern day arming, but I do believe the lgbs had wired fusing problems for explosion. Tho this was the first precision guided weaponry war to be executed.
The image at 4:25 was photoshopped in 2002
I think the tornado mentioned was shot down by a Foxbat.
It was a flogger..
@@wor53lg50 I still insist it was a Foxbat, from what I remember.
It was a SAM. The Story from Iraq had the day wrong. It's not something that could be faked when there were reporters on the airbases. The story from Iraq also suggests the Tornado pilots saw them, there's no first hand testemony where that's even a possibility. Read Tornado, by John Nichol. It covers GR1s role and missions in Iraq comprehensivly with passeges from the surviving crew members. There was no Tornados lost to enemy air action.
@@mrflibble9783 could be , as the tornados sorties were flown by daytime.
@@frederickastorgav7991 The low level missions were nearly all at night. Daylight raids come when they started hitting targets at medium height (20,000 feet) At the time, the rather large Iraqi airforce were hardly flying any sorties and getting destroyed on the ground, and where they did fly were were often quickly getting shot down from strong CAP pressance. The story was invented as a propergander peice to give to present them as something other than totally ineffective.
Why did Brits procire jaguar? Becouse F-16 was too good and too American.
Ahhhh..... The Brits and French! Putting stores upside down on wrong side of the wing. Americans never do that. Also British, stacking engines on top of each other, instead of side by side, like well rest of the world.
I had never heard of the F-104 being used during desert storm! Thank you for the well-made video!
Some air force choose to fly it without radar, it's goes classic, just need the speed.
Money well spent 🎉
Good take away from 1st Gulf War to 2nd and to present day. Was back then only the RAF, the Canadians, and the French were actually flying combat sorties. The Italian’s lost a Tornado on the first night and pretty much called it quits. As he was the lone plane that could hit the tanker on that night as the rest in the squadron had difficulty doing nighttime AAR. But the Rest of NATO stayed home because the USAF and the RAF knew they were not really combat capable. These countries that hung out in Turkey learned a big lesson and today if you look at NATO Air Forces. While smaller they are better trained and more capable and taking part in air actions.

A10 father?
I flew one of the airfield attack missions on the first night. 4300th Provisional Bomb Wing off Diego Garcia.
You forgot to mention the 563rd TFS also stationed at George AFB.
R.I.P. F-111
I was GR1 for 7 years , i was a Leckie plus and conventional plus Nuc systems ! It was a very hard aircaft to work , the propulsion techs known as sooties , they worked v hard , the Flight crews were a good bunch , it took a lot of work from uz tecies to launch the Aircraft , i have great memories from this period !
👍👍👍
Great Airplane loved loading and arming the munitions as a Aviation Ordnanceman. Fondly remember my time with VMO-2 and H&MS-36 Flight Section in the early 80's. 8:31
