Just a heads up. The "f/a-18c" cockpit you show at 1 minute is a super hornet cockpit and not a legacy hornet that participated in the conflict

Yeah just noticed that, thought it looked a bit too clean for a legacy Hornet 🤣

Yeah man the F/A-18s from “SFMC” in the Desert Storm 1991 campaign I chose VFA-151 for the F/A-18A and VFA-86 for the F/A-18C.

At 00:19 and 06:36 you can see aircraft “403”. This was the aircraft that Spike was flying on the night that he was shot down. So the footage is probably from the build up prior to the outbreak of coalition action on the night of the 17th Jan. Also Mike Fox & Mongo got their kills later on that day after Spikes mission with the HARMs earlier that night. They were aware he’d gone missing but I don’t think they knew he’d been shot down at this stage and hoped he’d just diverted after a tech issue. Why he was allowed to proceed with the mission with a non functioning RWR I’ll never know! Should have been an immediate RTB after that had been diagnosed.

Didn't notice how I showed real foorage of 403 from the workup. Always makes me smile when I see real footage of the exact airframes that did something significant in combat. No clue why he went out without his RWR, like a death sentance on night one!

@@IrisAviation91 From what I’ve read, Spikes jet had some sort of electrical malfunction after taking off from the boat. The RWR was one system that was disabled as a result. When this happened I’m not sure. So he may have thought it was safer to carry on within the protection of his strike element. Rather than become a “singlton” behind enemy lines and be lit up by friendly forces (CAPs thinking he’s a lone Iraqi interceptor) without him knowing. The fog of war is a confusing battlefield. This is only the information I’ve read from another forum and I’ve got no idea how accurate it is. Someone will know a lot more than me. But it’s very sad to see the jet he was in operating normally and knowing it’ll be gone soon after the footage was taken. Keep up the good work. Loving the videos. 👍
