    Thank you for the mention of the tan camo Intruders. The schemes go hand in hand with it all ties the whole video together. Keep that stuff coming mate. Love it all 👍🏼

    Roland did show up on the A-6 RWR, remember that the Allies had had months to nail down the Iraqi SAM OOB and generate the Pre-flight Messages to tell RWRs what to look for. But many aircraft as yet had no countermeasures to a monopulse home-on-jam system. So it was chaff and manoeuvre the old fashioned way. Also the F/A-18s were not there to give EW support; they had no escort ECM capability at that time. The package had EA-6Bs for that. Zaun and Wetzel actually evaded 2 missiles before a third got them amidships; they did a great job.
    I'm also pretty sure individual squadrons don't just 'decide' to go Scud hunting. They would have been tasked centrally via the ATO.
    Otherwise, good summary.

    USS America also participated in ODS as part of CVW-1. VA-175 Intruders participated heavily in the conflict, including the destruction of the Silkworm battery that fired on the Battleship Missouri.

    No aircraft well ever replace the A-6.

    • @majorborngusfluunduch8694

      @tigershark3051That is an electronic warfare aircraft, not a bomber.

    • @majorborngusfluunduch8694
      @majorborngusfluunduch8694 4 місяці тому

      @tigershark3051 The EA-6B did not replace the A-6, they served together. An EW aircraft cannot replace a bomber. The F/A-18 replaced both the A-7 and A-6 for the Navy's strike missions.

    I particularly like the A-6E TRAM variant in “SFMC” when it’s with the Desert Storm 1991 campaign. And I chose VA-115 for the tail markings.

    A picture of a US Army Roland SAM battery respect sir
    Few people know that we got as close to a single Roland battery with the California ANG in the 80s
    If it was actually a accident still respect for the great video's

      They did air-to-air refueling too. The navy really had a perfect combo of planes back in the day. S-3s could hunt subs 1000 miles away from the carrier. They could do anti-ship missions, refueling and small cargo (mail). The A-6, F-14, and the S-3 had range and weapon loads that the navy can only dream about today. I know having fewer types of aircraft is better for logistics and stealth is where it is at today, but I think the navy has lost some of its ability to "reach out and touch someone" as far as the planes of today go. (no pun)

    One correction. USS Ranger launched S-3A Vikings, vs the B update. On the night of 17 Jan I was in the lead Viking as the Sensor Operator. Vikings dropped the first TALD Decoys drawing fire from the Umm Qasr port facility so that the Intruders could mine the harbor. All aircraft checked-off target safe except for one Intruder. KIA were Lieutenants TC Costen and Tuna Turner on that mission. I made a UA-cam video about that mission... ua-cam.com/video/2AzmWiWKOpk/v-deo.html

    • @IrisAviation91
      @IrisAviation91  Рік тому +1

      What was it like dropping the TALDs? Always wanted to know if they just fell lazily before flying off, or went off the aircraft in a way that vaguely resembled a missile.
      It's truly amazing how you found my video, it always seems worth making when someone who took part in the actual battle watches and comments. Thank you.

      @@IrisAviation91 I wish I could give better answer than "I have no idea".... it was pitch dark, about 2am, and I was scared out of my mind in the backseat. We were under heavy enemy fire, and all I remember is being ready to eject if needed. The Viking was just not designed for SEAD. 450kts max, that's downhill with a tailwind, if we were lucky.
