Thanks, will do!
👍
Those purple chilis are such a beautiful colour! And yes, your chickens are thoroughly pampered... 😅
They are indeed....lol.
Dad's looking great 👍
Thanks Debs x
What a chilli harvest! Best of luck with the future veg garden.
Thank you!
I reckon that’s a chicken palace
I think it works out that each egg has cost about 100 euro...lol
Turn that music down
Will adjust future ones, new software in use and still getting to grips with it.
@@greenerinportugal 👍🏻 great, thanks
I truly hope you put as much effort into building your home.
Us too ! I don't think I'll be putting in a dust bath for us though lol
Those are very pampered chooks. The dust tyre is a feat of ingenuity❤. Never tried purple chillis but I’m going to order some seeds. Planted mauve peppers this year without much luck though. Have a good weekend.
Thanks Lisa, the purple chilli's are sort of sweet with a little heat. Our friends put them in oil to make a sauce
Hard work, but so much more enjoyable than working for somebody else over here.
Indeed. Don't think I don't have a boss though.....that's comes with marriage......J
I don’t understand foreigners’ fuss about processionary caterpillars. The Portuguese and the animals here don’t have any problems with them. You just need to avoid them. On top of that, you’re messing with a pine tree that isn’t yours and even stripping its bark! That's a massive no no.
Hi, thanks for your input. The tree marks our boundary (we've found that out since) so it sits on the edge of the land, the land next to it is abandoned. We had a old dog at that time and it's our only entrance to the farm so we couldn't take the risk when we took him for a walk. We have other pine trees which we didn't touch as they weren't posing a risk. Yes, some of the people in the village do nothing about the caterpillars, others do so we drop into that category. In February we will be putting blue tit boxes up and let nature do its part. Thanks
Thank you for the mention we are John and Clementina. The raised beds look good. I am hoping to have raised beds too for us, I think I will just copy your ideas 😂. We are back in UK again 🥺. Great video as always 😊.
Hi John, Hi Clementina, we hope you are well. We thought a cheeky little mention might make you smile :-) The raised beds are OK, we ended up re-doing a couple as its a case of trial and error to get the boards to sit right. If its any consolation the weather is about to turn wet and miserable here, so not that much different to the UK. Thanks for watching and get in contact next time your over here. J&B
Wow mate. Just watching this now. You’re both doing so amazingly. Well done to you both. Really pleased for you and your progressing so well. 💙❤️
Thanks Simon. Much appreciated
Good to see dad being put to work and supervising bench saw construction 💪🏽 Thats a great photo of you both at the end, bet dad was in his element down the mine, just like the good old days 🤣👍
Cheers village, i think he's happy to be heading home for a rest
Julio is cute! What a bonny wee boy xxxx
Yeah he is cute Brendan, that face just says it all and he would make someone a good pet, if he could be caught, he's a quick little thing !
super video, great to see how things are coming together.......
Thanks 👍 now the cooler weather has arrived we can press on with other projects at last
I love watching your videos. Looks like you're having a blast and I'm leaning more and more towards that kind of lifestyle myself.... Keep up the good work, inspiration and keep em coming... Regards AJ
You can do it! We started out by watching others who had made the move. It's "relatively" straight forward and we never feel under pressure now as everything is at our pace. Thanks
The raised beds look lovely! How much did the boards cost?
Think they worked out at 1.70 each and the square ones about the same. Hope all is well x x
Those dogs look like they’re preparing themselves to move in full time 😂😂 ! Although seeing them leave food indicates the villagers are looking after them also. Another new toy Justin I think you’re more spoilt than the chickens !
Yeah the dogs are more like part timers. I wouldn't employ them if they were human..lol.. Luckily the villagers here are nice to the dogs so they aren't starving. Gotta have a new toy once in a while ! Thanks
Looks like momma dog has had her puppies.
Yep....but we don't know where. Somewhere up in the village. The fact she is here quite a lot means that sadly, we don't think its been a good outcome for them. Sumeria needs to be sterilised but to do that she needs to be registered. If we put her in our name and she causes a traffic accident we could be liable. We are working on a charity style fix for her though. Thanks
Excellent job on the raised beds. I felt your disappointment at not finding a stone trough in the sty as these make wonderful kitchen or bathroom sinks. Delightful family of dogs you have❤. Have a good week.
Thanks. Yeah a bit gutted about the trough. The dogs come and go as they please as they are strays but they seem happy enough.
Lovely doggies, I like your coop, did you make it or buy it? Very happy chickens indeed.☺
Thanks. The smaller coop we bought from Pawhut. They use it to lay their eggs. The larger main run one we made using the aluminium roof battens.
@@greenerinportugal very nice☺
Nice job with the new chicken palace!
Thanks much appreciated x
I’m so sorry for your loss.
Thankyou for your kind words
The death of a pet dog is devastating. They really become a member of the family. I am sorry for your loss.
Thanks for your kind words. With just myself and Barbara here on our own most of the time it's a big void in our life x x
@@greenerinportugal I live alone. My dog was my best friend. Then she passed due to an accident. Devastating.
So sorry about Guiness. They do leave an empty space.
Thankyou x
wow, love the chicken run 👏👏👏
Thank you 🤗
My condolences on Guiness"s passing. I've lost cats & dogs over the years,& I know that pet-shaped empty space in one's life.
Thanks for your thoughts
Prayers for you and your pup.
Thankyou x
Love to you both stay safe, love that pic of Toby with Guinness 😢🐶❤️
Thought you'd like that. Lots of love x
👍
So sorry about Guinness bless him hope you are both ok hugs
Thanks Sylvia, much appreciated x
So sorry to hear about Guinness passing, take care and stay safe. ❤️❤️❤️ xx
Thanks Susan, we miss him terribly x
I'm happy to see you back. I'm also sorry to hear about Guinness crossing the Rainbow Bridge. I lost my 21-year-old rat terrier last October. Luckily, my neighbor's cat came to live with me after she passed away last November. Miss Kitty is about 17 years old, and I have to blend her food because she is unable to chew cat food. The fire situation is very bad here in the Pacific Northwest due to arson and dry weather.
Hi Frank. Thanks for your comment and sorry to hear about your terrier, 21 is a terrific age. Glad you've got company again. The fires have been very bad and we feel for the people directly affected. Take care
Take ownership of the dogs, train them not to attack the chickens.
Hiya, as much as we would love the estrela we don't want the others. The local council are aware of the others and a plan might happen to catch them and rehome them...but nothing firm I'm afraid. The smaller dogs are a hunting dog and really difficult to train them out of chasing "prey" I'm afraid.
Awwww what lovely wee dogs...shame for the pregnant one 😢 poor wee thing. So nice you feed them..maybe feeding them may stop them hunting the chickens as they won't want food
@@greenerinportugal The easiest way to train the dogs would be to use a lecy collar
@@greenerinportugal Every time they go to chase the chickens
@@greenerinportugal They’ll soon learn
Stay safe guys 🙏🏼
Thanks guys
Welcome back guys 👍👍! The chickens are so spoilt 😂😂 Bless Guinness you gave him the best life 💙
Thanks, they are spoiled and Guinness did have a good life x
That’s awesome mate. So looking forward to catching up on these videos and watch it all come together.
Thanks 👍
Burning clippings is a bad indicator of proper land maintenance.
Hi, we did mulch a lot of the clippings, but there was just too many to deal with. Burning isn't something we would normally do but on this first land clearance we had no other option. The larger off cuts are seasoning for fire wood....4 cubic metres of them. Thanks
So sorry to hear of all that you had to put up with Barbara, chin up. Glad Justin is back, where would we be without our soul partners eh!
Found you on my home page now and came to look, liked and got connected. I have chickens myself and am a novice gardener, yours look great! Great tomato harvest! I do so love to watch and learn☺
Awesome! Thank you! We have great fun watching the chickens, albeit they are vandals around the garden ! Thanks and good luck with your garden Anne x
Congratulations on your first eggs!
Many many thanks x
2 hens for each Rooster isn't enough. He will exhaust them, over use them and possibly hurt them. Each Rooster needs around 6 Hens each.
Hiya, Riley the smaller rooster has a new home pending completion so it will ease the situation. So far there doesn't seem to be much chicken love going on, but we know this might change. Thanks
Dry the chilli’s in your drier…going into powder…use in food throughout the year
Hi Brendan. Barbara has been prepping for storage and chilli powder is on radar. We've already done some sun dried tomato in olive oil as well. Very rewarding ! Thanks
@greenerinportugal ohhhh sounds delicious mate!
Put a clipping of basil in a jar on an inside window and watch it grow. I live 34c+ 6 months out of the year and always have basil.
Good idea. We will try that. Thanks
Have a great August, look,Forward to the house renovations starting… 🎉
Thankyou. Already 32 degrees and it's only 11am so very glad that we can relax a bit from filming. X
For your hot peppers, try fermenting them. Easy and good
Good idea. We will look at that. Thanks
Enjoy your time off.
Thankyou. Time off is very welcome ! Lol
