- The temperature is rising, hitting 37 degrees this week.
The heat means we have to build a sunshade for the caravan and awning to keep us cooler during the day.
Mother in Law is visiting so we take up to the top of the mountain, but Barbara made me bring her back down again....(just kidding).
Like the Mother in Law remark🙃 . Hope the army nets worked as it's getting hotter down here in Salir de Matos 🥵
Hi Michael, the nets have made a big difference. Probably dropping the temp by 8 to 10 degrees. As they are cammo nets they don't act like sails if its windy. Definitely into the hotter part of the year. Hope all is well.
I don’t believe you haven’t named those chickens yet? Beautiful mountain drive xx
Hi Dawn. Chickens have been named by Sophie. We have Fluffy, Mya, Riley and.....Sophie. Might have to revisit the one called Sophie as we think she is a he ! Woof from Guinness x
I live in a van with annex in northern Australia. You are going to need portable aircon, without a doubt 😮. You need a space between roof and net for breeze through otherwise it heats up the same.
Hi Rhonda. Thanks for the comment. We used cammo nets as it allows for airflow whilst giving shade. We will probably do a few more upgrades and will bear your comment in mind and maybe make a bigger gap. At the moment it reduces the temperature by around 8 to 10 degrees. Thanks
You could have used old tyres instead of the buckets
I have seen other people do this to make supportive structures and saves spending money on the buckets
Pile up tyres
Add wood or metal.poles
Fill in with cement
Easily movable and causes to damage to soil or pollution
Hi Brendan, thanks for the comment. Certainly something to think about in the future. Luckily those plastic olive tubs are only €2.40 each and we needed a quick fix. They are made from recycled plastic and for that price we figured we can't go wrong. Strangely other plastic items here are very expensive, and there doesn't seem to be any reason why..!
Did the net make a difference?
Hi Derek, yes the nets have dropped the temperature in the awning by 8 to 10 degrees. We've also extended out from the awning to give us some outdoor shade. It's now quite pleasant to sit outside when it's hot. Thanks
