    I love Faber content but HATE the 4 book series concept, I love the all in one books but there's only 2 levels so if you want to continue you are STUCK with the 4 book shuffle and 4 book extra expense and I have had several teachers after moving twice that just don't want that 4 book shuffle and want to use Alfreds which is written horribly, progresses to aggressively with much less theory and explanation. If you are a parent and have young children or multiple kids at different levels you have multiple messes. GO BACK TO ALL IN ONE BOOKS.

    I love your answer to the question, "What if you don't feel premium/experienced enough?" Thanks for helping me to think about this differently. I got a late start with piano which affects my confidence. However, I've recently come to the conclusion that I can offer a great experience teaching beginners and then pass them along when the time comes. I've been taking lessons for 9 years, but it's a long (wonderful) journey!

    You have so many fabulous ideas! I like the idea of printing out colorful games, etc, but I only have a black and white printer. Any suggestions on a good color printer that doesn’t cost an arm and a leg for colored ink?

    • @TheTattooedPianoTeacher
      @TheTattooedPianoTeacher 4 дні тому

      Great question! As you said, it's really the color ink that gets expensive! In past years, I've had good results with using an HP printer along with their subscription service called Instant Ink. You pick the # of pages you print per month and pay a reasonable fee...they ship ink automatically when you're running low. You can print full color and use as much ink as you want and it still just counts as "one page." I've had the older version of this one: amzn.to/4bS52Xv and it comes with 3 months of Instant Ink free with printer purchase. I currently own an arm-and-leg laser printer 😭 (this one: amzn.to/3LjbbkE) As printing things has become a more integral part of my business I decided to make the investment. It prints beautifully and dependably but it is an INVESTment 😂 But for many years the cheaper HP model served me very well. I would love to use this question in a future Q&A video if that's okay with you!

    I make my own compositions using MuseScore…do you think it’s necessary for your music to be spelled super duper correctly before selling? I have completed a bunch of pieces, but at times I’m unsure of the note spellings. MuseScore has an option to change/automatically edit note spellings (even rhythms) in a piece of music, but sometimes I wonder how good of a job it does.

    Thanks so much for this! I think you have just tipped me over to start some students with Piano Safari for the first time, after a long lead time of looking into it but letting it sit on the shelf again. On the rote topic - I usually start new students with only rote pieces/no method book for first few weeks, or sometimes even longer, and do lots of movement/game activities/use a floor staff as pre-reading development etc. For rote pieces we do lots of full body movement activities (especially for pitch), using fruit or animals to help remember rhythms, or we make up a question/answer for longer phrases, put words to singable melodies. We might do a hand clapping game for a piece that swaps between hands or has interesting rhythms, or play on the fall board in different ways etc. By the time they have done all this away from the piano, the rote pieces become much easier so they tend to remember them at home after only one or two lessons for a new piece. I haven’t yet looked ahead to level 2 and 3, so this was really handy to hear your thoughts on those books too, and the theory etc. thanks again!

    In my local teacher association, I’m the most expensive teacher(I’ve been told to lower it by some but I teach higher lever than some) and I’m always full with a waiting list. I’ve gotten better clients with my higher rate. I don’t even offer 30 munutes anymore unless if they come twice a week. Mostly it’s 45 minutes these days.

    This video is gold! Such good advice for teachers! I am always a bit dismayed at how negative piano teachers seem to be about transfer students. And I don't like our tendency to criticize the previous teacher based on a transfer student's performance. Every student is a work in progress, and we don't truly know the progress that was made by the previous teacher. ❤

    Do all of your students use method books? Up to what level? My son uses Sukuzi books for his violin lessons (and doesn’t love them), but has never used method books in his piano lessons.

    • @TheTattooedPianoTeacher
      @TheTattooedPianoTeacher 25 днів тому

      Every teacher is a little different and I know some prefer not to use method books. Personally, I use method books in tandem with my own materials and students' personal choice projects. Some students really benefit from the structure and logical lesson plans of a method book all the way through their high school years, while others will be ready to ditch the method books after a few years--so it really varies from student to student! But I would say I like to keep at least the main lesson book going until we get to the intermediate level (which would be about Level 4 in the Faber Piano Adventures series) so I feel confident we haven't missed any crucial concepts or skills.

      @TheTattooedPianoTeacher 25 днів тому

      Wunderkeys Intermediate Pop Studies books are great for adult learners if you have a solid foundation of technique and note-reading ability going into Level 1! (I would say that an adult would probably not enjoy the Primer series, however, because it is quite juvenile with lots of comics and games.) Let us know if you decide to try out one of the books!

    • @roy-nk4vq

      @@TheTattooedPianoTeacher I purchased the Primer series, and the Elementary series. I think that the comics and games make the subject matter less intimidating. I would say that the style & technique taught in all 3 levels of WK Intermediate directly correlate to new age style, which would also translate quite well to most video game and film music. So, that might be just what you're looking for! As we both know, those genres are NO JOKE from a technical standpoint! In many cases, just as or more challenging than classical literature, but sometimes in a different way. If I had a student who desired to play Beethoven, Clementi, etc I would not discourage them from WK books, but I would pair them with another method more geared towards classical technique specifically (Alfred Premier, Piano Safari, Faber to a certain extent). But if your true desire is more in the film/video game/new age realm, than I don't think you necessarily need to master the classical as a stepping stone towards your ultimate goal. By the end of WK Int 3, you'd be at the level of easier songs in those genres. I hope that helps! But happy to discuss further 😄

      @@TheTattooedPianoTeacher Thank you very much for your clarity!! I am already working with the first unit of intermediate 1 and i m finding it great, as you said it is exactly what i was looking for. I went through every piece of suzuki book 2 last year and this year the first clementi sonatina and kuhlau, but honestly it took toooo much time and i couldnt even achieve the required velocity, but the the thing it worried me the most is that i was not able to see the relation between the music i like,o nly in the very long term. ( sorry for my english, i am from Argentina). And as you mentioned too, the tehnical part of new age, film and viodeogame music is really hard ( i tried Einaudi and i was not at the level at all) but with this method i see how they go gently and it is very well composed too. I`m enjoying it, thank YOU!!! again because i was feeling so stucked and empty. Have a loveley week🥰

      @@simofd9175 I'm so glad you're enjoying Intermediate Book 1! It sounds like it is perfect for you. Perhaps you already know, but there is also a Performance Book published for each level in the Wunderkeys Intermediate level which pairs nicely with the main lesson book, and gives you many more graded (and beautifully composed) pieces to work on before moving up to the next level.

      Maybe a Piano Safari teacher can chime in here, but I'd say no it's not perfect for everyone--however, I don't think there IS one method that's perfect for everyone!

      I don’t think any method is best for everyone. I also don’t use a method book like most teachers do as most of my teaching bulk is from supplements. I do think it’s a good method. Teach the individual

      7-9 works well. That said, if a student began with Piano Safari Friends at age 5 and did well, I've continued with Level 1 at age 6 and it's been successful.

    They really are and I think any series that also teaches rote as part of a method needs to also charge a bit more!

      Good point! They probably could sell the rote songs as a separate book if wanted to, but it's all in there!

    I just realised I haven't taught piano using the C position, G position etc, for a very long time. I did at the very start of my career, but found it to be not useful somehow. Maybe kids not being able to read notes was a far bigger issue. I just skipped "G position" and went straight to making them sight read more stuff. Maybe piano safari is for me!
