I have no idea how I found this channel- I'm not a piano teacher, but I do teach kids 1-on-1. Your point about how something you love can still drain you (and the fact that it drains your energy doesn't mean you don't love it) really resonated with me (also an introvert). Lots of great advice here, even for us non-piano teachers!

I agree that setting a boundary of no makeup lessons is one of the best decisions I have ever made as a teacher. Of course, there are times when I make exceptions when there are family emergencies but just by having that policy in place it gives me the opportunity to be in control of my schedule. It allows me to be graciously giving a makeup lesson instead of people demanding a makeup lesson. Also, I have found since COVID and a lot of family’s doing online lessons they have an option to do a lesson from home if they want which has also decreased the requests for makeup lessons. And as a mom of a toddler and being pregnant with my second baby I have found scheduling a break to eat supper together and for me to put my toddler down for bed is huge. I still feel like I can spend time with my son while also being able to teach with good boundaries.

Yes to everything you said! And you're absolutely right--a year of virtual school made online lessons such an easy sell. Sounds like you're finding a healthy balance. Thanks for sharing your experience!
