Your predictions are gold. I totally agree that piano lessons are changing from what they were once.
I think personal interest is something that can help retain the attention and motivation of the student. Learning what the student has an interest in, whether is a video game, movie, TV show or cartoon and then focusing that interest into the piano teaching. If the kid likes Star Wars, why not find a simplified version of the Star Wars theme for example.
Also, I think one thing that has always been an issue with learning piano, is that most of the time, it's a solitary activity. I think the online community is great for helping to motivate one another to keep practicing and learning. I've seen people do this on Patreon or other platforms and its nice. But perhaps, more is needed in this area to help the students.
I think having more online resources that really explain how to accomplish learning piano. Memorizing music, musicality and phrasing, how to stay motivated, how to practice.
I have a student into gaming music,Super Mario, to be exact. And the book he has, which is marked "easy", is so challenging it's not funny! I made the student a deal- one Clementi sonata, then one Mario piece,, and we'll alternate. I had to push my snobby, "classics"-only idea aside.
I love your coffee chats!
I'm so glad you enjoy them. I love doing them!
I have spent hundreds of dollars in the last couple of years on studio license pieces and keep finding new ones I love. I am using them more and more to supplement method books. So much exciting music to play outside of method books even for beginners. Hopefully this will keep students interested longer!
I love shopping for supplemental music, too! Do you have a favorite composer or resource for the studio license pieces?
@@TheTattooedPianoTeacher The places I’ve bought the most stuff from have been Piano Pronto (various composers), Wendy Stevens and Susan Staples Bell. What or who are your favorites?
Totally agree on Piano Pronto and Wendy Stevens. I'm not as familiar with Susan Staples Bell--I'll have to check out her website! Carol Matz is now offering studio licenses on some of her pieces. I know there are others.. Thanks for sharing!
@@TheTattooedPianoTeacher I forgot about Carol Matz. I have bought some of her stuff too!
I, too, am loving all the studio-licensed supplemental pieces. I'll add Rebekah Maxner to the list, tho. Some of her early elementary pieces have been absolute hits with my students.
🤔 interesting that you believe we're in recession.
