I drive the odd tractor and post the videos here....that's about the length of it really... :p
Claas 557atz & Massey RB3130 - First silage 2024
First job baling of 2024, recorded a few days ago. My 7810 is my baling tractor, it has done 90% of the baling with the last 2 years and it's great for it. It's so small and has an unbelievable lock on it to follow sharp turns left by my lely rotonde rake. The clutch isn't too heavy, it has around 120pto-hp and you can adjust the hydraulic flows on both spool valves. It's just great for baling but unfortunately I went restoring it there back in February and it hasn't gone back together since. There's more work in repairing it than originally thought. I will get it back together eventually but just not in time for the silage this year.😔
My other tractor, the big Same Galaxy.....well that's an ongoing saga 😅😥 I will make a full in depth video about that tractor once we have all the issues found and fixed. I've had it since 2022 and had hoped it would be working for 2023 but it's 2024 now and it still has problems. I have sent it to a mechanic now who is better than me and it shouldn't be far away from being fixed now. It has had it's 2 speed pto fitted so it can go baling now and the last day I saw it, all the heads were off the engine and they were looking at the piston to head clearances for compression. There is zero wear in the engine he tells me so that's good at least.
So anyway, that's the story with my tractors and why they aren't running the baler in this video. Here we have my father's Claas Ares 557atz, the tractor which replaced our Renault after it burnt out. It makes 120hp on the pto, dyno tested, so it's well able to run the baler. It has a dyna 6 gearbox in it which is fine, I don't mind it. It's fond of diesel which is one gripe we have with it but other than that it's a nice comfortable tractor and very similar to the Renault we had before which we really liked. The spools are not the best for baling though. Only the first spool has a float function and flow control, the rest are just normal pressure and max flow spools. The first spool does the door so you can open it gently and float it closed like you're supposed to on a welger baler but the pickup reel is on the second spool and has no float and max speed so you've to be careful lifting the reel so it doesn't fly up too fast. I have the locking tap half closed for the pickup reel to try and regulate the flow but it doesn't help the no float problem. You've to deadhead the spool to make the reel drop. It's a poor enough design by Claas/Gima to be honest. The Galaxy is the same. Only one valve has float and I don't think there's any flow control on that tractor at all. I do miss the Ford for baling. I'm just so used to it now.
On the wrapper is a friend of mine's 8210 with himself driving it. Saves me borrowing both of my father's tractors to go out to do some baling. Off in the distance you might be able to see another friend of mine's Massey 7618 on a double handler drawing the bales away. We were baling on peaty ground and it was going to rain the next day so the bales had to be cleared that day because we would have just made a mess the following day. So it's a good thing he could come and do that because I never had time to move the bales that day. I spent the evening trying to figure out why the diverter valve on the loader of the Claas stopped working so I could go stack the bales the next day 🙄. I got it fixed anyway.
I will start making videos where I talk in the videos this summer, I have started making a few workshop videos and they're not all bad I don't think. Some people will find them interesting I'd say. Also no Jf videos to come this year :( It's going to be all bales.....oh well....there's always next year. I'll explain about the Jf and things a bit more in future videos where I do actually talk, not just a big long scroll of a description :)
Alright that's it, bye 😛

I wouldn't be the best baler driver out there but oh well.....here's a video anyway. This baler replaced the 3 I was driving in previous videos. I think the reel is nigh-on unblockable now at this stage. It's almost self-propelled spec to take in grass and having a wider reel than the old baler, the bales tend to come out with squarer edges. This is on wider tyres than the 3 was so it's probabl...

A quiet week this week so I had a bit of time to go and video whatever Hall&Wilson were at and they just happened to be at hay that evening. Wasn't the first choice of music I'll be honest. I had the video half edited twice with two different songs before starting again a third time with this song, Aulx studio - Violet letter. Ah it's grand just, I'm sure it wouldn't really be a piece of music ...

Cool outfit, happy I got a go on it. Really liked the tractor but I'd still prefer the Mchale Fusion if I had the choice, just personal preference I suppose, it's what I'm used to by now. Absolutely gutted I did that aw lads. Probably would have been alright if I didn't back back as far. Hindsight is great... This baler seems to kick them off a bit faster than the fusion does too so that doesn'...

Mapped up to 240 on the pto apparently. Goes well. Autopowr gearbox with command arm and 4 post cab. The last 7530 that was sold new in New Zealand as far as the owner is aware. Brilliant tractor. Would much prefer autopowr than be pulling at that hatchet-handle of an autoquad box all day. On the third venture over to New Zealand now. I've still not much to do at home in the Irish winter. Exhaust gasket for one. That's what's making it sound like a misfire or I don't know what you'd call it. It's covering the entire engine bay in soot too so that's why the side panel is off, just to let so...

I saw this comment in my notification bar and I thought "ah no...here we go again. Some guy giving out about my headcam videos being too shakey and they can't watch them" 😂 but then I see it's this video, so yeah you and me both lad. It was pretty disheartening to watch it all go up on fire.

If you're good at operating machines they won't care where you're from 😀 try finches, or john austin or any of them. I'd imagine they will take you, no problems
Now that is beautiful!

Had our 7810 mowing and drawing in the bales lately, there such a nice simple tractor, and I don’t think it’s missing anything really.
Air conditioning 😂 if mine had that I'd be winning
@@WayneMescal ah yes, my one has ac alright but still a sunroof and 2 side windows ain’t bad compared to the new yokes
@ORiordan124 new yokes are greenhouses if the ac breaks alright. Undrivable on a hot day
How you rate the claas?
Ah it's grand but it has some silly problems compared to the Renault that was there before it. The bonnet is too tall and you can't see the edge of a bale trailer while stacking bales unless you stand up in the seat or lean to the side. The lift controls aren't as nice as the Renault either and will lock you out sometimes for no reason. Heavy on diesel but other than that like, all the components in them are pretty good. Carraro axle, John deere engine, dyna 6 gearbox and the gima back end. It's all good stuff I'd say.
Good stuff, the ground is holding up ok
Thanks Mike, yeah ground spongey enough in places. Our own land be wetter than this, couldn't cut all I wanted to cut of it. Had to leave some grass on the ground then when came to bale it too. Just too wet in spots.

Jealous of you getting to escape our shitty winters, considering heading to NZ or Australia myself after this season in Ireland. Also you said in the description you like to watch your videos back in winter when the weather is shite, I do the same thing with my car lol go for drives on nice days and just record it with the gopro. Can really help cheer you up when the Irish weather gets you down for sure.
Wow that's pretty far down the description, you did well 😂 Yeah I love looking back, it's really what makes the videos worth doing. I'm clueless about what to do next winter. I'm losing interest in traveling over again. It's too far to be regularly doing it.
@@WayneMescal I'm currently deciding if I should go travelling or focus on moving out, depends on if I can make enough money to do the latter.
@georgeguiney3454 you won't make a lot of money over in new zealand but you would be moved out at least temporarily and it's an experience. Whatever you do save can go towards moving out then afterwards. If you want to make good money, Australia is the place to go it seems.
@@WayneMescal Australia would be the bet I reckon, for whatever reason I just hate driving on hills so NZ might not suit me. Did you have work sorted before you went over?
@georgeguiney3454 yeah the first year I did but I didn't get on well there so they found me a new job after a few weeks and then kept going back to that lad for the following 2 years then.
Want do you think of the John deere baler c441r vs to the fusion
No comparison. Fusion is the only way to go. More compact, faster transfer, safer on hills. John deere is a touch wider too i think which doesn't help getting in gates. If i was buying a combi, a fusion or maybe a massey would be the only 2 I'd consider but I havnt got a go on a massey combi yet. Used a lely tornado but only spent the day broke down with broken chains so didn't get much done. Hopefully the masseys are better.
Is it a go pro that ya use or what scan? 👌
Gopro hero 4 session. Good camera, had it with almost 10 years. Still working away. Good battery in it still.

How on Earth do ye Survive with out any tunes on the cab lad if that were me i would have had the tunes on all the time but i say its bc of UA-cam lol
I hate the noise of it. Nothing better than listening to the machine you're driving anyway. You hear what's going on and will hear any problems early. Driving the jf harvester is especially nice and square baling as well. Radio broke in my car a few years ago and I've no notion of fixing it. Never used it. Probably seized up due to lack of use 😂
@@WayneMescal ah lad i know them jf's have a Lovely tune of them and it was the start of silage last year and are welger had a Problem were the baler did not beep when the bale was done and when the bale was done the fecking thing would just net so my neck was gone after that Field but then the thing just fixed Itself 😂
@Paddy6.30 couldn't have put the net on manual instead?
@@WayneMescal tryed still would not fix it just netted with out letting me know but as i said it fixed it self the next time it was running Again
@Paddy6.30 you'd want to look into it now while things are quiet. It might not fix itself the next time.
Hey mate. Do you have an email or social media I could contact you on? Always wanted to do this kind of work!! Great video and cheers :)
Thanks, yeah I don't really have any other public social medias..... maybe just look me up on Facebook and message me there might be best.
Love a 7810 myself ,but looking down the nose of the Tractor , I still see the Old Ford 5000 .But Envy But I didnt notice any Roping down the load ? , I know our locals Noddies would Nick you for not doing it .
I suppose the bonnets are the same shape alright. Never bothered me much. I don't mind it. Everyone around here moves bales this way, I haven't been pulled over yet by moving bales this way anyway...
Great Video, Wayne I would suggest a chest mount the head mount is very Jerky! thanks for sharing
Thanks, I prefer the head mount myself, I see other chest mount videos and you're just looking at the steering wheel I find....I want to use my magnet mount more alright, that works well and gives steady videos.
Why do you guys have so small of wagons? Just curious
These trailers were all homemade by these guys, they're built to take on hills. Short and wide so they don't fall over. Also there's a lot of tight gates, they're easier to get in places.
Nice video lad very good compilations
Thanks
Cool video sir 🫡
Thanks very much :)
Great compilation of clips. Thanks Wayne
No hassle lad thanks for watching.
Who were you working for during the seasons?
@_MDAgriVideos_ I started with Reymers but didn't last long there. Went over to Mudford contracting who has the fusion then and that's basically the only lad I was working for all along. In maize and sometimes grass I would go and do a bit for Hall&Wilson.
@@WayneMescal Thanks. Looking about going out later in the year. How come Reymers didn't work out?
@_MDAgriVideos_ Ah I have some problems myself and it made it difficult to work in such a big company. Most people who go there would have no problem, they were very nice in fairness. Mudford suited me a lot better, it was usually just himself, myself and one other guy.
Can't wait for the grass this year
It can stay away another while. I was only baling hay last week, I want a break.
Fair enough is the ford going baling again this year she's some bus to do what she does
@user-tw5se8ho7s yeah it will see the baler again this year for sure. It makes most of the bales for me. Got it split this evening. I'm timelapsing the whole process of fixing it up before the summer.
O good to have her well looked after before the summer so she doesn't let u down
@user-tw5se8ho7s yeah exactly. I can't afford to have it let me down in the summer. There's enough stress without breakdowns. In fairness the ford never left me badly down yet but better to give it a check over at the same time
Did u ever consider a kuhn baler with the clever plastic system we nearly had one bought last year
You're not eddie thornton are you?
@@WayneMescal no
@user-tw5se8ho7s right ok. Na there was this other fella eddie who used be onto me but he disappeared idk where he went. Anyway no I've no experience of kuhn. Happy with the welger massey baler. If i was going to drive a combi baler i think the fusions are the best and I've not much experience with anything else
A fella not farm from me went from fusion 3 straight to a kuhn combi a bold move fair play to him if it works out
@user-tw5se8ho7s mr.cvx did the same I see. He's happy with it. I haven't seen any kuhn balers around here. Whelans is the local dealer. Massey Ferguson dealers but they were dealing with welger and lely for years before massey ever got involved with the balers. The welgers are well regarded in our area. I see a few combi massey balers around but know nothing about them. Drove a 245 tornado combi in nz for a day last year but spent the day broke down with broken chains :(
I worked a 678 for a season pls dont start me
Oh they were a bad yoke I'd say. We had a 578 when I was maybe 10 and 11 years old. No end of trouble with it apparently.
@@WayneMescal the 578 that ran beside it was sound but the wrapper was the problem the transfer was to slow and the Rpm was only 35 rpn on the 678 and the twin axel desgij
@user-tw5se8ho7s yeah compared to the fusion this baler did seem slow, but it's still probably twice as fast as a 678 I'd imagine. Our old 578 still works locally. Can't be too terrible so. I spotted it working in 2022 across the hedge. First time I'd seen it in 10 years 😆
O nice my womans father has our 578 we have a fusion 4 plus this year we swapped a 2019 fusion 3 plus before that we had a straight 2015 fusion 3
@user-tw5se8ho7s video of a fusion 4 coming soon. Changed the 2019 3+ for one this season in new zealand. I went home to ireland today. I'll upload it there sometime this week.
A force 2 or 3 seems very nice compared to our force 1
This one's an early 3. Yeah the force 2's and 3's were a lot more ergonomic than the early stuff.

No bale kickers? They look like they might be useful in a paddock like that 👀
Bale kickers only good for handy ground. On steep stuff you'd only end up backing up and they'd fold under the baler and wreck everything. The fusions are bad for doing it, I've never done it but the neighbor has done it 3 times. Also on the fusions any slight bit of an incline and the bale will just fall over when it comes off the bale tipper and it buggers off down the hill anyway 😂 I baled a dead flat field the other day and 2 bales fell over just because 🤦♂️ I'm usually not too bad for losing bales, that field wasn't even a bad one, I was just off my stroke being in a new machine and all 😅 I was raging I lost that one.
just wandering lad did you ever bale with a welger/lely baler ? btw class vid
Well my own baler at home is a massey ferguson which is the new welgers. There's videos of that up here already. I really like those. I drove a lely 245 tornado in new zealand last year for a day on a case puma 240cvx but only ended up making around 50 or 60 bales with it for the whole day because the back door chain kept breaking. I took the camera with me that day but never got a chance to use it because of the breakdowns. If I have some free time in January I will try to go back and see can I have another day on it and take a video this time. Drove that lely 235 baler for a few hours as well actually, the one from the ford 7810 and conor wrapper video. Grand machine too.
Yeah defo keep commentary on some videos like these, when the kit or situation is different or interesting, could be farmer Phil 2.0 any time soon 😂
Haha thanks. I'll try to do a bit of talking, I think the change might be good.
You gone back down to the Deep South?
Yeah gone again for another while
@@WayneMescal whereabouts are you?
@78mikehayes Otorohanga but we do work from Te awamutu to Piopio.
Did u buy another baler after the last one burned out
Yeah that new one from a few videos back, we decided to keep that one, it went well this summer, I just didn't video too much of it because I already have videos up of it. I will try to find the time to take more videos next year.
Want to see the ones hes got in his pants
Is agri diesel any cheaper out there or does it work out the same how much do they charge per acre
It's all white diesel here but diesel vehicles pay road users tax which is charged by the distance you drive. I don't know what the contracting charges are, I don't be asking, but they're crazy high compared to Ireland. To rake-bale-wrap is close to like 25-30 euro a bale and then mowing is extra on top of that. Any work that's not by the bale is usually by the hour as well which is different from home. Tedding and mowing and things like that... The harvester is by the hour even and so are all the trailers. On maize the harvester is by the hectare but the trailers would still be by the hour. Even the jcb is by the hour. It's a very different way of thinking they have over here.
Does there be many lads you meet out there going solo for the grass season lad or is it few and far between? Fine rig you're driving there... I've been watching since 2017👍
Thanks John. Tis maybe a half and half split of fellas coming out by themselves and then the other half coming out with their friend or girlfriend. I might talk about it in a video soon, thinking of doing a bit of commentary for a while now.
@@WayneMescalthat's good to hear lad.... a commentary vid would be very interesting for sure. Thanks for the reply 👍

how long of a draw from field to pit was that run
10k each way
brilliant vid shane harvester going at some pace, keep up the good work👍
I'm wayne but anyway 😅 that's a good harvester yeah there's about 750hp in it as far as I know. Much faster than the 8600i before. This one's a 9500i. There was 600hp in the old harvester.
@@WayneMescal sorry wayne ive been watching u for a while just had a bit of a brain fart😂 yeah she certainly looks a step up, would she cover alot more ground than the 8600i in a day do you reckon?
No I do remember you commenting all the time it's just I remember you said Shane last time as well but I never took much notice last time. In grass not really but in maize yeah you cover more ground in the day. In grass you are just getting over the ground, maize has the big volume of material which needs to get though the harvester.
@@WayneMescal she looks a big step up anyway, would there be big maize country in that part of nz?
Yeah loads of it all over this area
