  • Soooooo.....back on the jf again. This was day 2 of it. Day 1 was a bit of a headache, the pickup reel gave a small bit of bother but it was handy enough fix. Once we got back to the field after fixing the pickup it still kept blocking after five feet which left me a bit puzzled. Called Alan from the JF centre in tullamore and he told me what the problem actually was. Just a Shearbolt 😂 new bolt on and off to the races again.
Day 1 was the local stuff, did only maybe 10 acres due to delays. Fecking Ford did a steering pipe too which had us stopped for a few hours. Of all days it chose to let go. Picked a few 20's because the stuff was light. Also picked a few heavy 20's because I was a bit too ambitious and really shouldn't have raked it in hindsight. 3 trailers got us through day one, The 640, the zetor and our own renault.
Day 2 was the long draw 👑 9.5km one way 😂 5 trailers wasn't enough. Only got 10 acres done on day 2 as well because of the length of the draw. Carey agri were passing by and pulled in and took 3 wagon loads away for us too so that was well handy. At about 7 in the evening we called it quits because everyone was getting a bit sick of driving so far and the grass was getting too dry. Went back the following morning with the baler and baled it up. 148 bales out of maybe 9 acres. Goes to show how heavy the crop was. Either that or the ford can't pack bales 🤣
A bit of a shame the stuff isn't closer really, would have smashed through 25acres handy in a day if the draw was short.
So yeah. That's the story with it now. No drone footage or anything like that, I don't get a chance to come off the harvester because I don't really trust anyone else with it really. Fragile little bastard of a maachine. I think someone took a video on their phone of it working alright, I might rob that off them and throw it up here as a youtube short. Ideal.
So here's a summary of all the gear that was used anyway, just if anyone was wondering where all the gear came out of.
So it was cut by a local contractor, 10ft krone mower.
Picked up with the ford and the jf obviously.....
There was our 566 renault on one of my trailers,
our 6441 on another trailer of mine,
a hired in renault 640 and hired in trailer,
a hired in new holland t6.155 I think it was with a borrowed trailer,
and a neighbour with his 5711 massey on my 3rd trailer.
Putting up the pit was a hired in 14 ton hyundai digger with just a digging bucket. It wasn't coming in wild fast so it coped well enough. Although when the 3 jumbo wagons from Carey's landed in I'm sure there was a bit of pressure on then 🤣
But that's it really. Day 2 was just running like a well oiled machine, no major breakdowns, just blockages from where lumps of earth ended up in the sward and things like that. Loved it. Sore neck by the end of it alright. Fuck hai that's a job that takes watching. Pickup reel is too narrow on the machine, any little mistake and it's caught on the corners of the reel and lets a lump in. Four feet four inches from outside tine to tine on that reel. To be honest though it has one perk, I don't have to worry about the harvester not being able to take it, just sicken the reel and it'll take it from there back 99% of the time. Class 😎
